My remote controlled fireplace logs weren't turning on. I had a different service person come out for free, who's solution would have cost more and I wouldn't have the remote feature. Instead, Kevin and his helper cleaned everything out, tried to repair the control box, but in the end replaced the box and remote and now everything is working perfectly. They do charge a service fee, but it is well worth it for me to get the log set working properly with the remote. We called F&S on behalf of one of our clients as their fireplace was only lighting intermittently. I left a message late in the afternoon thinking, like most places, I would never hear back. To the contrary, I received a call back a few hours later (I had already gone home for the day though) and Kevin left a message. He then followed up with me this morning to make sure I had received his message & to see if we still needed their services. He happened to have had a job get cancelled and was able to go out to the property this morning and fix the issue! After having one company fail to show up for an appointment to repair my gas fireplace, another company inform me that they would charge me a significant amount for the visit and gas for the vehicle each time that they have to come out, (even if a part had to be ordered, causing a return visit) and several companies tell me that they clean but do not repair, I was a bit dismayed. Thanks to everyone on Yelp for the reviews on f&s. They are as great as everyone said. Kevin came out on a very timely basis. Cleaned my gas fireplace,glass never looked better. Had an issue with the gas shutting off within 3hrs of use. He listened to my explanation of my problem. Found the problem right away. Explained the reason why it was doing it. It works just perfect now. I had always used another company for at least 10yrs..when I explained my issue to them,they sold me another remote that didn't work. Returned to them. They really didn't understand my problem. Kevin told me the original remote is the only kind that would work with my brand gas insert anyway. He took the time to explain a lot of things to me. I recently moved into my home and was trying to figure out how to get my gas insert fireplace to light. Had given up and called these guys for service. Daniel called me back the same day and offered to walk me through how to figure out relighting the pilot over the phone. He spent about 10 minutes on the phone with me discussing how to do this as I looked at the controls etc. After hanging up I tried what he described for a few minutes and found success and now have a working fireplace. Couldn't be more pleased that he took the time to walk me through that - could have easily required a service call and charged me the minimum. It happens that he was also the one who had installed our 2nd gas fireplace seven years ago ( still working without any problem). My wife has spent the last two weeks calling a vendor in San Bruno that had been recommended by our builder. To boot, they had installed our fireplaces and the crappy electronic ignition systems in the fireplaces. Imagine, that after two weeks of leaving messages and given that they were the builders in the first place, they never responded. What a business? So, I picked up the slack (honey do?). I reached another vendor in San Carlos and they told me they would be happy to send out an "inspector". I told them I didn't need an inspector. I needed my fireplaces to be fixed. They said that they needed to certify that the flue worked properly before doing any work. I told them that the flue and my rear end worked perfectly and could we stop the bullshit? They said well this is just the way we work. I said great, I'll call you tomorrow. Desperate to get our fireplaces working, I searched through Yelp and found this wonderful vendor in the San Jose area. I called Daniel and was shocked to get a phone call right back later that day. He asked me if it would be okay if a technician came by at 7am the next day? Are you kidding? Of course! So, today, Kevin shows up and he goes about fixing all four fireplaces in an incredibly mature, competent and professional attitude. They took care of removing their shoes outside and covered the floor with blankets to ensure they would leave the floor free of debris and dirt. I got a recommendation for Daniel at F&S to come out and fix my gas insert. I had tried everything under the sun to fix it, to no avail. Daniel was great on the phone, very response, and arranged to come out and check it out in a couple of days. He called the next day because he had a cancellation, and was able to move up the appt. He came over and was able to get the fireplace working in about an hour. He was very clean about the work area (put a blanket down to guard from dirt.) The rate was very fair and I was a very satisfied customer. Unfortunately, the fireplace stopped working again the next day. This was really strange, so I called Daniel back, and he determined that it must be the thermocouple this time. The first time out, he had cleaned all the innerworkings, but now that the fireplace had worked for a day, another problem had surfaced. Once the part came in, Daniel came back out and put it in for no charge. And, viola, it has worked ever since. A good guy...give him a shot! read more

Our gas fireplace wouldn't light. F & S was recommended to us. Daniel returned our call promptly and came out to our house when he said he would,the next day. He and his partner took the fireplace apart and cleaned the glass until it sparkled! He didn't have the new part with him and recommended we get the part,as it would be less expensive for us to do it. F&S came by our place in San Jose to fix our fireplace which had stopped lighting. It turned out that the issue was with the power transformer, which they were able to replace quickly and get everything back to a good working order. Our fireplace would work for about 30 sec of operation and then shut off. Kevin made an adjustment to the spark starter but it didn't fix the problem. He then went outside to inspect our chimney and found a bird's nest in the flue. The nest was impeding the air flow in the fireplace and caused the unit to shut down. Once the nest was removed the fireplace worked perfectly. read more

I contacted F&S to fix a non-functioning Lennox gas fireplace. The voice mail indicated high volume and they would call back between 6-10pm. I wasn't optimistic, but they did indeed call around 8pm. He was very clear about the charges which didn't change depending on how long they need to fix the problem. He offered to come out on Sunday at 8AM to fix the problem. It's obvious they are hard working group and they try to get someone there as soon as practical. Kevin arrived a few minutes early and immediately got to work. He asked at the beginning if anyone had worked on it before because the logs looked like they weren't placed exactly. He managed to repair the fireplace (and clean and replace the logs) within 45 minutes. Overall, very professional and courteous service. read more

These guys are great. I've had problems getting my gas log repaired since purchasing the set from CA Window and Fireplace. I went to them when the system failed a couple of times. There were many unreturned calls, several month delays in them receiving repair parts, and rescheduled service calls because of their manpower shortages. This year my set wasn't working again, I emailed F& S on a Friday. Today, it is the following Monday and my fireplace set with remote are working great. Kevin came out on time and got right to work. We've had a gas insert for over 10 years, and have never had a problem until recently. It started to just flame out on it's own, including the pilot light. I tried everything I could think of, even calling the company that installed it, who had gone out of business. All the other gas insert companies I called didn't seem at all interested in coming out and doing any maintenance, or repair work, since they hadn't sold us the insert. I even tried e-mailing the manufacturer, but not even a reply from them. Last Saturday, while pleading to a guy at another insert sales company, he suggested that I call Daniel, of F&S Fireplace systems. I called, left a message, and Daniel called back later the same day. He explained how he worked, and his pricing structure, and then came out the very next day. I was pleasantly surprised when he took a look at our insert, and just kneeled down and started troubleshooting. In a half hour, he had our insert working like new again! The job was only partially completed because the contractor took the money and ran. I was nervous thinking that I'll have to spend a lot to replace the entire unit. Update: Nov 27, 2015 I am revising my review from a 1 to a 5 Star based on what happened after my initial Yelp Review. Daniel the owner called me on Thanksgiving day and offered to come out that day to work on my fireplace problem. We agreed on a morning apt the next day, Friday. Daniel came out on time (actually a little early) and worked on the fireplace. He solved the problem quickly. He cleaned up the fireplace including cleaning the glass front cover. Finally, he gave me a 50% discount on the service call for my trouble. I am now a fan of his service. ==================================== Missed all scheduled appointments. Gas fireplace broken. Called F&S and spoke with them on a Sun. Scheduled an appt. on Tues between 8:30 - 10:30 am. No show. No call or message that they weren't coming. Spoke with Kevin that Tues evening. He said they were very busy and didn't record our appt. Rescheduled for next day (Wed) between 12-2 pm. Again. No show. No call or messages that they weren't coming.
