    Cute attitude from a f45 Jollyville employee after voicing concerns for a very misleading Facebook ad they're running

    For those of you that found this place via Facebook ad promoting the 8-week challenge: it is NOT free. It requires a $499 deposit, contingent upon you losing 6% body fat or 20 lbs within the 8 weeks. You'll only find that out when you attend the initial info meeting. And, if you want to pay for one month of membership, it's $200. I can't find the ad now, but I am 98% certain nothing was mentioned of the $499 deposit. Here is the transcript of the texts I just exchanged with Brendan, who works at F45 Jollyville. This sucks, because otherwise, the gym looks pretty cool. But if they're going to be less-than-transparent at the onset and then have a sarcastic attitude about it? It's a BIG no from me, dawg. There are plenty of other choices for gyms in this area.

It's now going on 3 years with a break in between cause of the pandemic, moved to Austin, picked up where we left off at TLS ATX and I'm down 8lbs. In the past year I have HEALED a lifetime of untreated injuries from going there. I'm no longer in constant pain every time I move, use stairs, or even stand up after a period of sitting. I've dramatically increased my range of motion as well, and learned how to do things I'd never thought possible. My overall fitness level is phenomenal. Coaching: I can't emphasize enough the value of the coaching, especially as I have tried out a couple dozen other CrossFit gyms. The coaches here have a well thought out warm-up and cool-down, including mobility and accessory work. They also explain the "why" of it. There is careful instruction and demonstration for each movement of the workout from the best of the best of the best coaches. During workouts there is constant attention and coaching to both increase performance and eliminate the risk of injury. Ownership: The gym transitioned owners about 11 months ago. Every aspect of the gym has improved in that timeframe. Facilities, programs, and culture literally improve daily. The owner actually cares about the outcomes of the members and isn't just there to maximize profits, but instead focuses on the well-being of the members. The members are also really fantastic humans and have become the foundation of my social circle in and out of the gym. Most of all I was impressed by their professionalism and skill with guiding their clients through the weight training circuit. There is a very precise methodology and protocol that they are following. I liked it and found benefit to each of the components of it. It's clear that the program was very carefully and painstakingly thought out. Training for this job must be intense. The workout was extremely strenuous, especially when you have been there a while and built up some strength. Having sessions a half hour long is totally appropriate when you are working as hard as you do there and making your way thought the machines at a very efficient pace. Another thing I really appreciated about the trainers here is that they both clearly seemed to have a degree in exercise physiology. I have worked with several trainers before and the ones that actually studied this in college are far more effective. Being so attuned to athletic performance the trainers can tell when you are getting to your limit and can help to push you on. They're great at motivating so you can squeeze every last drop of strength out of your muscles. That said, they also are totally respectful if you need to take a breather, get water and let your heat rate come down a bit. As an out of shape person looking to build muscle for the sake of my health- I felt comfortable here and did not feel judged or that the trainers had any opinion of me being unfit. They were only kind, accepting and motivating. This has not been the case with other trainers I've worked with before and it is noteworthy. They get a gold star for professionalism. I would have liked to continue on but my financial situation changed and I needed to focus resources elsewhere. The cost for sessions is high but it is also worth it for the the amount of focus the trainers put into your work and the fact that it is 100% private.

One of those changes being going from weighing 250 pounds to 158. The first 45 pounds I lost on my own. The second 45 pounds (and the more difficult half to lose) I lost at ATX Gym. I worked with both Max and Kevin and they were both professional, knowledgeable and truly masters of their field.     If you're looking for personal training without the exorbitant cost, classes you actually WANT to…read morego to, or something like CrossFit without the cult, then look no further! ATX Gym has you covered. It's small, intimate and efficient. From what I've seen, the full spectrum of fitness levels finds a home here from those who could do Olympic lifts in their sleep to those who are just getting their feet wet (me). The classes always have a purpose and a plan but offer a lot of variety. Weightlifting, strength straining, booty building workshops, yoga, stretch, calisthenics, cardio conditioning, HIIT, dance--There's something for everyone. That's key for me personally, as I tend to get bored really fast and lose interest if it's the same thing every day. And the classes are small! No more than 6 people, which is the sweet spot between getting personal training and enjoying the comradery of others. It definitely helped me feel less intimidated, because let's be honest... walking into a group of strangers in unflattering workout clothes not knowing what to expect can be anxiety inducing. Lacey (owner and trainer) was so sweet, warm and welcoming! I felt welcomed immediately by her and the other few people in our group that were super supportive. Lacey and Max are knowledgeable hands-on owners that run their own classes and really invest a lot of time and energy into you. They really took a lot of time and stayed late with me to go over nutrition, set goals, and help me choose what classes would be best for me. Give this bad ass locally owned gym some love!
