I've walked past this place a few times and was intrigued so I decided to give it a try. It has a beautiful, well decorated interior and was kept warm and cozy on a snowy day. They provide complimentary popcorn, which is well seasoned and rich with ghee. I was seated in a chair that was very low to the ground. While outfitted with comfy cushions, I was not sure what the proper was to sit on this chair was and I was too embarrassed to ask. My best guess is that it's meant to be a criss cross applesauce type situation, but I had on wet snow boots and didn't particularly want to do that. This isn't a complaint, but just something to consider for anyone with mobility concerns who might be considering visiting. There are some normal style chairs in the front of the restaurant that I'm sure I would have been switched to had I requested as such. Anyway, onto the food. I ordered the "Lahana Ko Faarzi Bhoj" which arrived on a large round platter with a variety of different dishes. I am very new to this type of food, and most of it was completely unfamiliar to me, which was very exciting. The grain at the center of this platter is "chiura," a rice product which has been pounded flat and dried. It has a light and crunchy texture, and pairs well with the thinner, wet curries it was served with as it really soaks up the liquid and expands in size. I've never had this before and it was very interesting to try. The platter comes with two bowls of warm curry, one with black eyed peas and maybe some potato and the other was darker with meat which I preferred. Both were rich and deep in flavor, but the darker one (pictured on the right) was so savory and well balanced- definitely my favorite part of the meal. They both have some heat to them, the kind that builds at the back of the palette throughout the meal, but none of this food was excessively spicy. The main plate has a ring of various cold dishes around the edge, all of which were unfamiliar to me so I can't necessarily identify them. My favorites were the pieces of well seasoned dark meat chicken and the deep fried egg in the center, but it also included some pickled elements, some ground meat and a small skewer, which I found to be quite tough. I really enjoyed trying new, interesting food in such a beautiful space. The servers were kind and there are many other items on the menu that I'm interested to try. Have been wanting to try Faarzi for a while. The location used to be a longstanding Irish pub called Grandstand, where a good friend of mine and I used to frequent for the yummiest buffalo wings and shepherd's pie. It was sad to see Grandstand close, but I was elated to see a Nepalese and Himalayan restaurant open in its place since I'm a big fan of the flavors that the cuisine offers. Met up with a friend on a Sunday night. She was already excited by the aesthetics of the exterior of Faarzi and was snapping away. When we opened the door, we were surprised by how pretty the interior was. It was filled with lush, vibrant colors and fun decor that was a tasteful mix of contemporary and rustic, which provided a nice, high-end vibe. It felt authentically Tibetan with a contemporary touch to it. We 'd it! It is the prettiest Nepalese restaurant that I've been to in Queens! Once we sat down, a complimentary basket of popcorn arrived. To my surprise, it was DELICIOUS! It was buttery and just savory enough -- not as crisp as popcorn that's just been popped, but so good that it was addictive! What a nice TREAT!! I couldn't stop reaching for it and according to the sign outdoors, the popcorn has unlimited refills! Now, for the food! We ordered 4 dishes to share: - Bhatti Ko Faarzi Masala Chowmein: Wow, just wow!! The masala spice brought this chow mein to another level! Every mouthful of noodle was al dente and had a balanced bite of a perfect amount of masala spice, ginger, savoriness, and a mild kick of heat. It's on the oilier side, but so flavorful that I kept scooping for more! Can't wait to revisit Faarzi and eat more of this! - Boudhha Ko Faarzi Gheu Momo: We ordered the chicken option. The size of the momos was slightly smaller than the momos I've had before, but they were bursting with flavor! Each bite tasted of cumin, cilantro, garlic, and spices that are very familiar in Nepalese food combined with the fragrant Szechuan peppercorn. The lovely tingling mala flavor from the peppercorns was delicate, but delightful! The momos were delicious, each morsel of meat was wrapped in a thin, chewy skin, which gave it a nice bite even though the chicken filling was on the drier side -- the tomato-based sauce that came with it compensated for it. The sauce was so good, it could literally be eaten with anything. The menu mentioned that 2 sauces would accompany the momos, but only one sauce was paired with them. When we asked, we were informed that the other sauce was the chili crisp hot sauce that I had received earlier when I requested for chili sauce. The momos were definitely a flavor bomb with the tomato-based sauce!. Every bite was heavenly! - Piro Nauni Wings: The wings came, and we couldn't stop ooo'ing about the visual presentation of the dish. There were 2 wings and 2 small drumsticks with a shiny glaze, they were hung on a little contraption that looked similar to how roast meats are hung by the window in Chinese restaurants. It was very cute! The wings were smoky, juicy, slightly sticky and sweet with a good amount of spice that tasted of tandoori. It would be even more fantastic if the skin were crispy. Give the crunchy puffed rice plated on the bottom of the wings a try! It is toasty, crunchy, and delicious and adds a layer of flavor to whatever you decide to add it to. Just delicious! - Jadiyaa Lal Mohan: A juicy, moist, sugary, alcoholic dessert that is not only unique, but fun! There are 4 donut-hole-sized balls of soft, fluffy cake, similar to cake pops, that are soaked in a sugar syrup. Stuck into each cake ball is a shot of whisky in a plastic tube, which you can squeeze to infuse the whisky into the cake however much you like. Since the whisky is quite strong and the shot is generous considering the size of the cake, if you do not like whisky, you may want to try the version without it though it is the whisky that gives the cake flavor. The cake would be much more interesting if it had more of the flavors that Jadiyaa are loved for or maybe if the sugar syrup paired with it was flavored with the spices used to make Jadiyaa. Far a more subdued whisky flavor, give the whisky shot just a pinch and enjoy! We had a great time at Faarzi -- great food, great vibe, good portions, and there was live music towards the end of our meal! Not to mention, we thoroughly enjoyed the Mukhwas style mix of spices and candy bits that were served at the end of the meal! i Can't wait to return to Faarzi to try the Pani Puri, which looked delicious and beautiful! read more

Similar to Kathamandap, Faarzi is one of the higher-end Nepalese establishments in Queens with a full bar menu. It's located on a very quiet Elmhurst intersection with decor somewhere between a nightclub and a mandir - it feels like the kind of mysterious place you might return to in the morning only to find out that it's never existed. The best thing on the menu is the homemade achaar. They served some sort of mooli achaar on the bara plate, which we could not get enough of. The bara itself was fairly neutral in flavor, and the aloo sabzi was paired with strong fermented beans that I haven't acquired the taste for yet. We tried both the plain steamed veg momos as well as the jhol momo. The dumpling filling was very good, but I found the jhol broth a little light - the dumplings also could have been served hotter. read more

That is because despite our server's recommendations, everything, in terms of food, was underwhelming. We had the pani puri, which was average. I had a soybean appetizer that was heavy on the horseradish, inedible until I added the tamarind chutney from the pani puri to temper the overwhelming wasabi flavor. My friends had cocktails and they said they were good. The jhol momos were perhaps the highlight of the evening. But I am not sure if they were worth a return trip here. The biryani felt box-mix-ish. Stopped by Faarzi for drinks and was seriously impressed! I didn't try the food this time, but it looked amazing beautifully presented and definitely something I'll be back for soon. I had a glass of Merlot and Pinot Noir, and both were absolutely fantastic smooth, flavorful, and perfectly served. Delicious high end Nepali cuisine at reasonable prices. We visited during happy hour, which offered some great deals on the menu. We tried the buffalo momo, which was flavorful and perfectly cooked, and the biryani, my absolute favorite it was fragrant and had just the right amount of spice. The restaurant had a warm and inviting atmosphere, with friendly staff who made our experience even better. They also had a lovely selection of beverages that complemented our meal perfectly. Come for happy hour and vibes: the drinks and atmosphere at Faarzi are unusual in the neighborhood, where few restaurants of its ilk have a full cocktail program. This is such a fun spot; don't be deterred by the Irish-pub-resembling exterior, the interior is delightful decorated with Himalayan touches, with bar or table seating. I've happened to come by a few nights when there's live music playing, and the crowd has clearly been there for the performance, but if you want to talk to your tablemates, you might want to come a bit earlier in the evening. I appreciated the creativity and the cuisine-specificity of the cocktails, and the bartenders are super friendly. The food is there as a nice accompaniment to the drinks, but if you're looking for a Himalayan meal experience and no drinks, I'd probably point you elsewhere in the Jackson Heights neighborhood up Broadway. I prefer Faarzi to Kasthamandap or UpTop in Jackson Heights/Elmhurst, but all three can provide similar live music/fun vibes/cocktail experiences. read more

On Sundays they open a little later for lunch, but we didn't mind the wait. We walked in and welcomed into a cozy place with fun decor. Everywhere there is some unique detail. We came as a large family, and they seated us at a large table with low seats. Warning, do not sit there if you have difficulty getting up and sitting low. They have other seats available. However, for my sister's three year old, she felt like these seats were just the right size! Everything here tastes amazing and they also spice to taste. We got a chaat and it was too spicy for the toddler, so they made a small cupful just for her. We got the momo sampler, which is great if you want a little of each. It comes with 5 per flavor, and we had five adults, so perfect! The noodles came with soup in a kettle, and the soup is a rich broth that was worth drinking on its own. Luckily my brother in law added bhiryani after we ordered, because that was so tasty, and I'm glad we didn't miss out on that.
