Came here with my kids prior to a concert because my daughter had a craving for Thai and this was well recommended on Yelp. The decor is quaint & cozy. Def a date night vibe. We ordered the roti & massaman curry, summer rolls, Beef Pad See Ew & Shrimp Pad Thai. The pad thai was too sweet, like they went overboard with the palm sugar. The Pad See Ew was the highlight of the meal, nearly perfect. The summer rolls were also great, and the massaman curry had great flavor, however the curry was very thin and didnt hold onto the roti very well and for $12 i expected more than 8 small triangles of roti. We still had a full cup of curry left when the roti was gone. The real problem I had was when it came time to pay the check. I was asked "cash or card" and i said card and the waiter brought over a sign from another table with a 5% cash discount and a 2.95% credit card surcharge. None of this information was disclosed by the server or on the menu, so it's illegal. When I called them out on their bullshit, they played dumb. I left cash for the amount of the bill and not a penny more. Here's your tip : don't try and fuck your customers with hidden fees and be transparent about your pricing. read more

I came here to celebrate my mom's birthday, so maybe that's why I'm extra disappointed because I really wanted this meal to be great. To start, the food wasn't bad. There were some things we enjoyed, but overall we left feeling that the quality and portions didn't justify the prices. We ordered the chicken curry puffs first. They were much sweeter than I'm used to, and instead of the traditional cucumber relish, they were served with plum sauce. It wasn't terrible, just not what I expected. The roti with Massaman curry had good flavor, but the curry was so thin that it had the consistency of soup rather than a rich curry. It also came without any potatoes, carrots, or onions. I wasn't expecting meat, but I did expect a more traditional Massaman curry. The grilled beef (nuea yang) was cooked well and very tender, but the beef itself was lacking seasoning. Thankfully, the dipping sauces added some flavor. The beef short rib khao soi was another dish that felt underwhelming. The short rib was excellent--fall-off-the-bone tender--but the curry broth itself tasted too light. I personally think it needed more curry paste and more depth of flavor, especially for a dish that's around $40. The biggest disappointment was the kua kling chicken and the Hat Yai fried chicken. Both portions were surprisingly small considering the price. That's where I really felt the value wasn't there. Unfortunately, the service didn't help either. It wasn't rude, but it felt inattentive and lacked the warmth and hospitality I usually associate with Thai restaurants. I always want to support fellow Thai-owned businesses, so writing this review honestly makes me sad. I'm not trying to discourage anyone from trying the restaurant--this is simply my family's experience. Everyone has different tastes, and yours may be completely different from ours. As far as the food goes, we loved the steak. It was so flavorful and perfectly medium rare. We also got a crispy pork dish that started out strong, but ended up being too salty after a few bites. The pad thai is solid, but not my favorite pad thai in the city. This also ended up being salty after awhile and we ended up eating it with rice. Ordered their lunch chicken pad Thai and their regular menu chicken pad Thai to see the difference (both take-out). The lunch comes with a small salad and one fried spring roll. Portion wise, it is significantly smaller than the dinner/main menu portion however definitely worth it for the lunch pricing! I think it is still really good for the price, but it is not as flavorful (slightly bland) compared to other Thai restaurants in the area. However, the regular menu portion is quite big! Kam Rhai Thai was easily five stars. Honestly, I think it might be one of the best Thai restaurants in New York. First of all, this spot was gorgeous, with a cute floral décor and fun lovely colors. I was greeted right away, and the servers were kind and warm. They make you feel genuinely welcome. Their menu is extensive, offering dishes from each region of Thailand. I started with the fried Thai dumpling, which were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside and packed with a tasty chicken and shrimp filling. I first went to Kam Rai Thai in Astoria back in December 2024 and recently came back on a Friday evening in April 2026. Kam Rai Thai has a very cozy and warm atmosphere with fake flowers decor everywhere. Street parking can be hard at times and involve circling around a few times. Food menu can be accessed by QR code and paper menu for drinks. The first time I visited Kam Rai Thai, I shared the papaya salad with my friend and had the Pad woon sen with shrimp. The papaya salad with green papaya, string bean, tomato and roasted peanut with spicy lime juice was refreshing and light. The Pad woon sen has sauteed glass noodle, egg, onion, scallion, cabbage, celery, carrot, tomato and sesame oil. The second time I visited, I had the Pad see ew with beef. The Pad see ew has sauteed wide noodles with Chinese broccoli, black soy sauce, and egg. Both dishes were very flavorful, delicious, delectable, and appetizing. The dishes were very filling and there was a good proportion of noodles and protein. I've had the Rainfall in Loei and Fang Martini Time, both are really good drinks and not overly strong. We shared the mango sticky rice for dessert and it was good. The mango was very fresh and the sticky rice with coconut milk was sweet, but not overly. My friends ordered the Kopi De Trang, Spicy Maesai Plum, Rainfall in Loei, Thai ice tea lychee, pad see ew with chicken, pad kee mao beef (non spicy), and khao soi gai confit. I ordered a pad kee mao beef with a spice level of 2 to go. It is a great option to have a spicy and non spicy option for pad kee mao. Everyone enjoyed their food. Staff are very friendly and the food come out very quickly after ordering. There is a 5% discount if you pay with cash and a 2.95% surcharge for credit cards. For my annual restaurant hopping reunion with another foodie bestie, we chose this unique and popular Thai restaurant that's been raved these last 2 years. What makes it unique is the different regions of Thai dishes it has than your normal standards. Northern Thai cuisine dishes was our go to. Appetizers were the chive pancakes. Shaped like triangles and deep fried to give it that lightweight crispy munch, loved how flavorful this was dipped in the sweet soy sauce. Main course was the Khao Soi Gai confit (chicken confit served in Northern styled curry soup). Never had a crispy content inside a curry. Same goes with adding the crispy noodles. Getting that crunch with how flavorful that curry broth soak is. Thai curry is less thick for good reasons so it can soak in all the contents and make your dish elevated. The flavors were overwhelmingly amazing keeping the confit chicken crispy outside and soft tenderizing meat inside. For Autumn, this comfort dish is an excellent choice. Extra side dish order was the Nuea Yang (sliced rib eye with tamarind and bitter jaekwhom sauce). That melt in your mouth slivers of meat slices with a crisp charred grill skin. Need I say more? The best surprises are when you order dishes that you've never tasted and it blew your expectations. The credit also goes to our host and server Oreo who was amazing with recommendations. I had heard good things about Kam Rai Thai via social media, and since I really enjoy Thai cuisine, I bookmarked it to try it out. Finally, with a break in the rain and beautiful weather, I figured--there's no time like the present. Before arriving, I already had an idea of what I wanted to try. It was honestly delicious. I came during happy hour and tried their margarita, which was also good. I'm a fan of Thai Iced Tea, so I ordered that too--and it didn't disappoint. For my entrée, I tried the Beef Shank Stewed Hot Pot and the Pig Beach Island (fried pork belly). The broth in the hot pot was flavorful, but it didn't quite hit the spot for me. I usually order the Seafood Tom Yum Soup, but since I was at a new spot, I wanted to try something different--especially after seeing someone online rave, "you gotta try this." I can't pinpoint exactly what was missing, but it just lacked something for me. I think the Tom Yum Soup probably would've been the better choice. The pork belly was decent, but I would've preferred it crispier. It also felt more like an appetizer than an entrée, especially since it doesn't come with any sides. There was a bit of confusion with the beef hot pot too--one server told me it came with rice, another said it didn't. I ended up ordering rice just in case. The first time I tried Kam Rai Thai was at the 2023 Yelpies at Flushing Town Hall. A little over a year later I was able to try their restaurant in Astoria for lunch and it was a good choice for a cold day like today. We were the only ones at 12pm and it was a bit chilly inside, not sure if the heat was on or not. My friend and I got seated in the back, the decor was so beautiful with the flowers hanging above and pictures on the walls. The menu was extensive and I'm glad they had pictures of their dishes, made us want to order everything but we can only eat so much. We had the papaya salad, Tom Yum noodle soup, lunch special chicken pad Eiw with a spring roll, soup and salad. You can choose from 1-5 for the spice level. The papaya salad was flavorful, Tom Yum Soup had the perfect amount of sourness and chicken pad see Eiw with level 2 spice was good. The soup, spring roll and salad was good with nice flavor as well. Beef was tender Brazino - most expensive but least liked dish. The fish was burnt, so the outside was just bitter. Fish was not flavorful and the sauce was questionable. Couldnt really figure out the taste but I would not recommend. Pad Thai - typical pad thai, nothing special to call out on. The food took FOREVER to arrive. We stopped here after picking my husband up at LGA and running some errands in Astoria and saw it had amazing reviews and decided it would be good for supper.... Boy were we wrong. We got curry puffs and a green and pineapple curries. The curry puffs had clearly come out from a freezer because they were still cold to the touch when we went to eat them , but 1 was still frozen inside half of it. I never judge frozen items, but they should check the temps because an extra minute of reheating would have been fine. My pineapple curry looked good but was extremely bland but was edible, didn't inspire in any way. My husband's green curry on the other hand was straight up rancid in taste and smell, tasting essentially like what a bottle of urine smells like. He wasn't able to even swallow more than a sip of the curry or eat the chicken and I tried to be reasonable when I tried it but it literally left us both gagging in a bad way and killed any appetite we had. When we tried to get help immediately, we were met with hostility and gaslit to try to believe that maybe we don't know what green curry tastes like, though one of us eats a green curry at least once a week. I travel the country full time and have had green curry in at least 35-40 states and have never been given anything so putrid tasting. Luckily after some back and forth they ended up comping our meal and not accepting any tip from us, and for that Ill give them 2 stars. We had: - Ayutthaya Beef Noodle Soup: $20.95; $22.81 with tax. The soup had good flavor, but it seemed like some ingredients were not cooked through. The thin noodles were a bit hard. Fantastic customer service from beginning to end. We felt welcomed and comfortable throughout, the servers were attentive and helpful and gave recommendations when asked. The roti massaman was the star, absolutely delicious. So delicate with a depth of flavour and so well balanced. Had a nice umami taste to it, a bit of sweetness and a tiny bit of spice. Very comforting and absolutely fantastic, I look forward to having that again soon. The summer rolls with shrimp were ok, not my personal favorite, but they were fresh and decent overall. I personally would try a different app next time. The pad see eww was great, but could use a bit more tofu. It was fresh, not too salty, the noodles were tender, Chinese broccoli well cooked, tofu was nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Just right! Kam Rai Thai is off the beaten path, but it's a nice addition to the restaurant scene in Queens. The staff are friendly and the ambiance is trendy with the help of the faux flowers hanging near the entrance as you walk in. The food is just as comforting as the decor with classics such as the mango salad and chive pancakes. The chive pancakes were a delight and were the perfect texture. The tom yum soup noodle was hearty and a perfect dish to be shared. I would've preferred if they made it spicy but the friend I was with couldn't handle spice. The crispy duck was the best part of the meal. The least wowing part of the experience were the cocktails which I found to be meh. The desserts were also lackluster with the mango sticky rice being the wrong texture and the brown sugar jelly just being jelly with a spoon of brown sugar. If you're just focused on the appetizers and the food, I think Kam Rai Thai can provide great value if you're willing to make the trek. At least was able to eat the Green curry, sauce and all. Pad see eiw with pork was tasty and we liked the chinese broccoli in it. Option for crispy pork but not for lunch special. Thai fried rice was a good accompaniment to the other dishes. We also got the Ayutthaya boat noodle soup with beef, no organ meats as described (we learned later to order from the regular menu if we wanted them, so for next time). Also tasted a hint of sweetness so will ask if it can be made a bit spicy. We enjoyed our lunch, had a lot left to take home. Would definitely go back and suggest this place to others. read more

My new favorite Thai place. The staff is great and the chef is lovely. If you're looking for authentic Thai cuisine, this is the spot to go. The decor is gorgeous, small intimate spot perfect for date night. I love spicy food, the spice at this spot is on point, a little too spicy in some cases. I recommend going with medium spice. I've dined here twice so far and tried a variety dishes, everything was good, you can't go wrong with whatever you select. They also have an innovative cocktail menu and their Thai iced tea is very good. read more

My guest and I had an amazing time at Kam Rai Thai Restaurant this past Sunday evening! From the staff who quickly and warmly greeted me and seated me even though all the guests on my reservation had not yet arrived. Most New York City restaurants make you wait in the front until all parties arrive!(I have no patience for that!) Upon entering, I was very easily impressed with the gorgeous Thai decor and the subtlety lit dining area. Each table had a small lamp and vase with flowers, which was comforting and well placed. There is also literally a beautiful flower garden lining the ceiling making you feel like you are in a garden in Thailand. The flavors and freshness of the carefully prepared and presented food was simply divine! Ram Kai Thai is the best Thai food I've ever had, hands down! The flavors of the green curry, coconut and peanut sauces drew me in with mouthwatering delight. The flavor was authentic and not over done. I had the green curry with shrimp and wok noodles which was fresh and incredibly delicious. I chose medium spice because I am a hot sauce diva! I must say I battled to completely finish my dish until the "medium" spice took me over! Thai spice is very hot so, I would suggest most people to go with the mild spice to be safer. I had very generous guest with me who all liberally shared their authentic dishes with me including: Pineapple crispy duck, roasted pork and chicken with shrimp with sticky rice. I literally wanted to order a sample of everything on Ram Kai Thai's menu! You absolutely must try the curry chicken puffs appetizer, so light and flaky your taste buds will dance with joy. I almost forgot to mention that they have an excellent selection of heavenly wines and other libations at their beautiful bar located nearer to the front entrance. I selected the plum wine and a little went a long way. It was very sweet yet light and refreshing. The staff kept our lime accented water glasses refilled during the entire meal which means they have high quality of hospitality and they really care about providing the guest a superior dining experience. If you want beautiful peaceful ambience, awesome food and to impress your friends and family, book a reservation at Kam Rai Thai. You will be praised and admired for being cultured and wise with expert taste. My compliments to Chef Dhanapol Marprasert for opening this gem of a restaurant and bringing authentic Thailand to us here in New York City. So happy to have another great Thai spot in the neighborhood! While there are already a bunch of "Thai" restaurants in Astoria, I didn't feel that all of them tasted truly authentic. Came here for bottomless brunch using a pulsd deal. 4 people around noon on a weekend. We were warned by other friends that use the deal that it was quite limited and that the brunch hours were subject to change. One of our friends is vegetarian and was originally told that only meat protein options were included in the brunch. They were generous and quick with the bottomless brunch cocktail refills! The pulsd deal came with limited food and drink options. I would love to come back for dinner to try more dishes. Most dishes can be requested mild (one person in our party prefers less spice). The medium spice level is still a good amount of spice. (I like my Thai food spicy!) Everything was delicious! There is a large menu so I may need to come back with a large group to share/sample more dishes. read more

I went to this spot for brunch/lunch with a group on a weekend a good while back pretty soon after they opened and I am happy that they still doing well. Overall, the food was excellent. The spot is reasonably sized with a friendly waiter. It wasn't crowded but we did go off peak hours and a couple folks came in after we sat. For appetizers, the Mango Salad with sliced mango, red onion, scallion, and cashew nuts in a spicy lime juice was solid. I prefer it a tad more spicy but that's more of a preference and it had a good amount of cashews for crunch. The Roti Massaman or Roti pancake served with potato in Massaman dipping was my least favorite dish by a good amount. The roti was tasty but the Massaman curry was watery. I find this curry usually a bit thick but this wasn't. You can partially see by it being a bit oddly white compared to some other spots. For main dishes, the Nuea Yang with sliced rib eye with spicy tamarind jaew wan sauce and bitter jaewkhom sauce was outstanding and a good representation of this northern Thai delicacy. Served with sticky rice, this was a very big portion for the price with a tasty version of the jaew sauce. The steak was cut thin enough that it was quite tender even for skirt and overall I would highly recommend it. Also good and beefy was the Khao Soi Kua Nuea with Stir fried Northern Thai style curry with short rib, fresh red onion, cilantro, dried chili oil, pickled cabbage, and homemade crispy egg noodle. Their presentation is part of the reason you order this dish, but it's not just presentation but flavor. Big tasty beef rib with a bit of chew and the broth had a bit of heat but not too much. Not many complaints for this dish also. There was also the Pineapple Curry Crispy Duck with tomato, pineapple, bell pepper, onion, and fresh basil with crispy duck. There might have been the nontraditional bell pepper but the flavors were solid. I presume the basis was a Phanaeng/Panang base based on the subtle sweetness and heat. The pineapple inside was sweet and tender enough that it almost reminded me of some more tropical fruits. The duck was crispy with tender skin. Very solid. The Kaphrao Moo Grob Kai Dao or crispy pork with basil leaves, pepper, and onion in spicy fresh chili basil sauce with a fried egg on top is a pretty good version of this classic dish though likely my least favorite of the group. Crispy pork with a nicely spicy sauce though I found the flavors a bit more basic than the other dishes. It was also a bit smaller compared to the other dishes. Still tasty. Overall excellent food outside of a fault or two. It's a bit far from the subway stops but this might help keep the prices down and it easier to get into so I don't mind. Mid 4 read more
