I didn't know this place was a Filipino restaurant! I went there with some of my friends. I liked the comfy vibe with the karaoke bar at the front. It was like we had a live performance at all times and it felt so cozy. And the owner came at the end to check on our experiences and that was very nice. I got Kare-kare pork belly and it just didn't hit the spot for me. I don't know if I ate it wrong but I wanted some kick or saltiness to feel the flavor more. Because pork belly can be pretty fatty, and the peanut sauce is also decadent, I feel like I needed something to cut the richness of the dish. Service (4/5): There was two staff members floating the restaurant while brunch also included AYCD beverages so understandably more attention required. They were busy enough that service was okay. Staff members were super helpful and friendly. Dynamite (4/5) - the serrano pepper isn't as hot as a jalapeno so the bites were tolerable. It was stuffed with melted cheese so it was warm and creamy. Kinilaw (Tuna Ceviche) (3/5) - the fish was fresh but I wasn't picking up much flavors in the sauce Sinigang Wings (4/5) - the dry rubbed wings were marinated through which was tasty. Our order was overcooked which made the meat a bit dry. If it wasn't overcooked, it would've been my favorite of the small plates. Lumpia Shanghai (5/5) - I liked the thinly wrapped pork spring rolls which had a nicely flavored ground pork on the inside. Each bite complemented well with the sweet chili sauce. Lechon Kawali (Crispy Pork Belly) (4/5) - the pieces were massive and full portion for the price! I thought that the crunch was perfect and mix of fat was the right amount for a twice cooked pork dish. It is common for this dish to not be submerged in sauce, rather sauce on the side. The flavors were further complemented with the sauce. Tapsilog (3/5) - While the flavor of the pork was good, the bits of caramelized pork were too small. We ordered everything to share, including Lunpia, Truffle Fries, Garlic Rice, Pork Belly Kare-Kate, and Pan Fried Tilapia. The Lumpia was long and thin, satisfyingly crispy, with plenty of yummy pork filling. Truffle Fries had plenty of truffle taste, along with Parmesan and spices on top. Tilapia was wonderfully succulent, flaky, and well seasoned, while the cream sauce was light and paired beautifully with the fish, as well as the veggies. For dessert, we tried the Nutella Lava Cake with Ube ice cream and the Halo Halo of course. The Nutella Lava Cake also came with strawberries on the side and a drizzle of chocolate sauce. The cake was oozing with irresistible, warm, sweet Nutella filling. Ube ice cream was creamy and tasty. The Halo Halo was shaved ice chock full of jackfruit, flan, ube ice cream, and rice cakes. This made for a delicious treat with unique textures and tastes. Service was solid. Our waiter was welcoming and understanding. The thing though is that this is incredibly rich and fatty, and there are 5 long pieces. You have to share this dish to enjoy it fully. Lechon: also good, and not as fatty, so you can earn more of it. They come with 2 sauces, a sweet chili type and another one that's deeper and more viscous - liked this sauce more. Beef stew: had this again and would get again. Tender beef and has a sweetness to it. Chicken mami: more of a chicken noodle soup vibe that you'd get if you were sick; blander but seems intentional that way Lumpia: comes as 6, and very hot and crispy. My favorite appetizer so far. The truffle fries were decent but not a must get by any means. The cucumber calamansi is very forward with the cucumber but refreshing. I didn't know what Barkada meant before coming here, so I had to look it up. It's a Filipino word for a group of friends. In that sense, the concept makes sense and the vibe check too. The bigger issue was the lack of structure when we arrived and tried to get seated. There should really be a clear greeting and a system in place like, "let me take your name and we will call you when a table opens up." Instead, everyone seemed confused about what to do once there needed to be a waitlist. We put our names down and no one even called us. After waiting, we went back to the restaurant and noticed how there were open tables. As for the food: we ordered the sinigang wings with were tasty and probably the highlight. The chicken inasal, however was very small for Its price point. For myself I had ordered the pancit with shrimp, but it lacked flavor so I had to ask for hot sauce for more flavoring. We went on a Friday night, and there was a live band -- fun vibe but definitely loud, so if you're planning to chat, maybe pick another night. From the outside it looks small, but it's surprisingly spacious inside. The servers were super friendly, and Jamae (who I assume is the manager or co-owner) was wonderful -- very attentive and personable. We started with the kinilaw, sinigang wings, and truffle fries. The kinilaw (Filipino ceviche) was a pleasant surprise -- fresh fish, coconut milk, and a nice kick from the peppers. Delicious! The sinigang wings were crispy and flavorful, though I didn't quite get the sour sinigang taste. The truffle fries were tasty and full of truffle flavor. For entrées, we had the kare-kare pork belly, kaldereta, garlic rice, and fried chicken. The kare-kare was my favorite -- rich, savory, and paired well with the pork belly. The kaldereta had decent flavor but could've used more gravy and a bit more tenderness in the meat. The garlic rice was a bit sticky and hard, not my favorite texture. Unfortunately, the fried chicken was undercooked -- bloody inside and on the plate. We were really looking forward to it, so that was disappointing. The staff handled it well, offering to replace it or bring another dish, but it did dampen the experience a bit. Jamae was very apologetic and even sent over two calamansi-tequila shots as a kind gesture, which we appreciated. For dessert, we had the ube lava cake (chocolate cake with ube ice cream). The cake was dry and not really "lava," but I appreciated that they still honored the order even though it was no longer on the menu. Note: it contains nuts or pistachios, so be careful if you have allergies. For drinks, we tried the calamansi margarita and ube espresso martini (I had mine on the rocks -- could've used more ice). The calamansi margarita was refreshing, but the ube flavor in the martini didn't really come through. Overall, service and vibe were great, food had some hits and misses, but I'd definitely come back with friends or family to try more dishes. Absolutely loved my recent visit to Barkada Social Club. It's unlike any place I've ever been to in Astoria or elsewhere, honestly. It's a high-end bar serving Filipino/American fusion dishes. The ambiance is casual, but the service and cocktail menu make the place feel really high end. I ordered their Old Fashioned Romance which came smoked, and was absolutely delicious and incredibly strong. It's like getting a little show in addition to your order watching them smoke it. The cocktail menu isn't as outrageous price wise as you'd think for a social club, either. Most cocktails are $15, with a happy hour that serves $8 classic cocktails plus $2 off signature drinks. I was a little hungry and went with their chicken skewers which blew me away. The softest, melt in your mouth chicken that was perfectly marinated and grilled to perfection. I've been to Barkada for both dinner and brunch. And I can verify that they truly serve up authentic Filipino flavors here, right in Astoria!!! The food reminds me of home which is how I know it's a certified Pinoy spot. When I went here for brunch, I tried the shroomsilog (veggie option), skewersilog that came with chicken inasal, and my all time fav tapasilog. I also had their arroz caldo. All 4 dishes were SPOT on with flavors. the tapasilog is classically made... I'm salivating just thinking about. The arroz caldo has that strong ginger and garlic taste that gives you that comfort of when you're sick at home and one of your parents made it for you to get better. The bottomless brunch is $25 when you order an entree... don't miss out on it because the drinks are strong and it's truly a LIT time. Oh, I also had the Barkada burger which is in a pandesal bun... and that's the only way I'm eating burgers from now on. lol. When I went here for dinner, I had the beef kaldereta, sinigang wings, chicken bbq skewers, skirt steak, halo halo, leche flan, and ube nutelle crepe. I had to try it all to see if this spot is Pinoy certified. And this is what truly made it 100000% Pinoy. The beef kaldereta tastes like how my lola makes it!!!!!! I visited on a Monday night, so it was not as lively. It was pretty quiet, and crowds did not appear until around 7 pm. I must return for karaoke nights! Their food portions are very generous and perfect to share with a friend. We ordered the chicken skewers, truffle fries, mushroom adobo, and pork belly kare-kare. I really enjoyed the mushroom adobo so much!! It was super flavorful. It was a perfect mix of garlic rice and sauteed mushrooms. This quickly became one of my favorite dishes. The pork belly kare-kare came with bok choy, eggplant, and seasoned string beans. I really enjoyed the kare-kare (peanut) sauce. The pork belly was fried to perfection! It was just a little too fatty for my tastes. The chicken skewers were very good and vinegary - it was a nice pairing with the mushroom adobo. We did top off our night with the ube Nutella crepe. I would admit, the ube Nutella crepe was a little disappointing. I didn't really taste any of the Nutella, but there was chocolate sauce drizzled on top. My mom, cousin, aunt and I came here last night for a belated bday dinner. This was on my list for a while. So lovely to see Filipino representation in Astoria. Chef Giemay is amazing. Her restaurant aims to introduce the community to traditional Filipino cuisine while incorporating flavors of other cultures in the food. Everything we ate was 10/10! We had the kale caesar salad with chicken, sinigang wings, pork bbq skewers, kwek kwek, pancit, kare kare, lechon kawali, and lumpia. I think my faves were the pork bbq and kare kare. So far I've only visited for lunch, but the food was good enough to make me want to return for happy hour or karaoke night. They seem to be taking their responsibilities as a Social Club seriously. The Dynamite is a must. Indeed, it's why I wanted to come here in the first place. These stuffed serrano spring rolls are a spicy, crispy, delicious good time. I could eat these all day. The sauce they come with is delectable; save some to use on your other dishes to unlock new flavor experiences. The servers were very considerate, keeping the table tidy and our water glasses filled. My date and I ordered three dishes to share, and I really like that they came out one at a time. The menus are two pages: one for food and the other for alcohol, cocktails, and drinks. We recently went for happy hour and ordered a few "calamansi" cocktails. The calamansi margarita and the calamansi cucumber cooler tasted absolutely nothing like calamansi. The margarita itself was also flavorless and watery. We also ordered the Sinigang wings and the Lumpiang Shanghai -- and I wish I could get my money back for those. The wings were so laughably tiny and even though the lumpia was not bad, it tasted like any regular basic lumpia you'd be able to get anywhere. The service on the other hand was pretty good. We had ordered another cocktail that had glitter in it and though it was not good at all, they offered to replace it. The servers seemed well-mannered and checked in on us frequently. As excited as we were to support this new establishment, our experience with the food and the drinks wasn't great and it's very unlikely that we'll be going back. They mysteriously disappeared from Google search so posting my review here from a week ago. I tried the chicken inasal/pork bbq to go the 1st time. $14/order. You get 3 decent size sticks and both were very juicy and flavorful especially the chicken. Today I went with a friend for bottomless Brunch. I did not drink and my friend had a few bellinis. I got the tocilog which was a small piece, mostly fat, wet/soggy. I like my tocilog dry, caramelized and crispy with more meat than fat. Two eggs. Huge mound of garlic rice which was bland and hardly had any garlic and a tbsp chopped cucumber/tomato/onions they call ensalada. My friend had the skewsilog (pork bbq) which was 2 really super tiny sticks pork bbq (2 bites), equivalent to 1 regular skewer. It didn't even qualify as a kid's meal. We ordered pancit and they charged $16 vs $12 which was the price listed on the brunch menu. The leche flan was alright - dense and not sweet which I like. But still unlike my Lola's which has a light, silky texture and better caramelization. Overall, Brunch was so-so and not bang for the buck. We spent close to $90. Disappointing. Think you are better off going for Dinner where you get better portions/value for what you pay. The waitresses were at least nice if anything. read more

We chose this restaurant for brunch to celebrate my daughter's birthday based on its advertised social atmosphere. Unfortunately, I later realized that most of those social events take place in the evenings, not during brunch hours. From the moment we arrived, the experience was disappointing. The staff was unfriendly, contrary to the reviews I read. The restaurant was uncomfortably cold on an already cold winter day, and the restroom was at least 20 degrees colder than the dining area. Because this was a birthday celebration, we asked the waitress if we could have a deck of playing cards, especially since the restaurant promotes social events and games. Our request was declined. After explaining that it was my daughter's birthday and that she had traveled from California to celebrate with us in Queens, the waitress said she would check. She later returned to say there were no cards and did not offer any alternative games. This was especially disappointing given how the restaurant markets itself. The service overall was very poor. Our drinks took nearly an hour to arrive, and the waitress appeared overwhelmed and frazzled. When our food was delivered, the man who brought it out did not greet us or acknowledge us at all. It was the same man standing by the entrance with a scowl on his face. The food itself was equally disappointing. The chicken was extremely salty with a strange, lingering vinegar taste. The chicken on the waffles was burnt and inedible due to the unpleasant flavor. The scrambled eggs were undercooked and runny. Overall, the entire experience--from the service to the atmosphere to the food--was terrible and fell far short of expectations, especially for a birthday celebration. Update: The business responded, but several statements in their reply were inaccurate. I stand by my original review, which reflects our actual experience. If you truly reviewed the camera footage, you would have seen that we received our drinks almost an hour after being seated. The "team" only checked on us after we had to wave several times for assistance. This is a direct quote from your website: "We provide curated table games to encourage conversation and help create meaningful interactions in a casual, low-pressure setting." While I understand that our visit was outside the usual timeframe for these offerings, a friendly gesture to accommodate a customer on a special occasion would have been appreciated. Additionally, if no playing cards were available, the waitress should have simply stated that instead of pretending to look for them. After checking with another staff member, she returned and refused the request for playing cards or any other games altogether. Most of the food was inedible, and we certainly did not take the runny scrambled eggs to go. One uneaten dish was packed to go and given to the homeless. Rather than defending the poor level of service and food quality, it would be more productive to acknowledge customer feedback and focus on improvement. read more

Sinigang wings were super good and can't go wrong with red horse - not everywhere has it! Appreciated the great service as well.
