Fareway FTW! I don't…read morefrequently shop at Fareway. Mostly because: 1) it is closed Sunday when it seems like I always end up grocery shopping but 2) it doesn't deliver! (As a mom of two with an insanely packed schedule, delivery is essential.) Alas, it's available now for online shopping and pickup! I ordered on a Friday morning and picked up my order later that afternoon. (Pickup is available for any order over $30.) The online interface is great! Compared to Hyvee and Walmart I'll make the bold statement in saying it is the best. I say this because there are plenty of deals at Fareway (buy this item and get this item free) and 1) it shows your these deals seamlessly but also, 2) you're able to see the discount in your cart right away! Pickup slots are right out front, directly outside the front door. Just push a button on your confirmation email to say when you're leaving or there. The downtown is very lively and extremely walkable. Iowa Chop House is located in downtown Iowa City. I went there for dinner on a Sunday and had the steak salad and asparagus. Both were excellent. I was served by Grace who was an excellent waitress and I enjoyed talking to her about the town and university. I was pleasantly surprised how good the food was. The only downside was the desert which I had a tiramisu which I'm spoiled and have better tiramisu before. However the steak salad & asparagus side was perfect. I visited only a day when graduation happened one week prior so the university students were away. The waitress explained normally downtown becomes very crowded during the semester. I ordered the jjampbong (seafood noodle soup), which is a common dish in Korean owned Chinese restaurants. It was delicious and spicy. I really liked how you could still taste some of the char from some of the ingredients being flash cooked in a wok before being added to the soup. I have to say this might have been my favorite experience of eating jjampbong, and I've had some really good ones in Los Angeles. I came back the following day for lunch again. This time I ordered the baby clam thin noodle soup. Another hit! The flavor of the soup base was spot on, and the clams were already taken out of the shell, which made it more convenient to eat. I would definitely order both again if I visit Iowa City again. The food and service were excellent. The owner checked up on me to make sure everything was good.
