The table started with Ceviche Mixto and Empanadas de Camaron. This was a perfect place for our family, as we like to share so everyone gets to enjoy different items. Main courses: Ostiones Aguachiles Rojos, Ostiones Zarandeados, Molcajete Frio, Apetcucaracha and Fajitas de Res. Both were delicious, however, I preferred the Ostiones Zarandeados over the Aguachiles Rojos, and glad we got the Molcajete Frio, because as a cold dish, was the one item we couldn't finish and took to go. I had the Mezcalita, and it was good, but a bit sweeter than I expected. The Paloma was spot-on. Definitely going to return.

This restaurant on Shawnee Drive near the Argentine area has excellent Mexican seafood. The menu…read moreis similar to the one at Marisco KC on Newman Rd in Shawnee, KS, but the menu at Playa & Mezcal is larger and somewhat more innovative. We were very impressed by the food and service at Playa & Mezcal, but the dining room at Marisco is more comfortable with padded seats. All of the seats at Playa & Mezcal are wooden without padding. At Playa & Mezcal, we got Ceviche De Camaron as appetizer. As entrees we got Filete A La Planca and Filete Empanizado. As a sauce, we got Topochico. Everything was excellent. We've never had better Mexican seafood anywhere, including in Mexico. The prices are higher than at the typical Tex-Mex restaurant but the food is far better. Padding on the seats would help. For that reason alone, we will probably prefer Marisco KC at the present time for a comfortable dinner. For a fast lunch, the seating at Playa & Mezcal would be fine. They have a full bar, but no iced tea or non-alcoholic beer.

Both of them - the seafood fried rice and the fish (not exactly sure what it was) - were really good, too. It takes me back to…read moremy daily afternoon ritual of a "Coctel de Camerones and a cervaza" to unwind in the zocalo after a beautiful day on my travels in Oaxaca or Veracruz. El Camaroncito Marisqueria is probably the best shrimp cocktail that I've found in KC. A perfect tangy and sweet combination of tomato and citrus juice to the sauce. Plenty of crisp fresh shrimp, onions, cilantro, avocado and the obligatorily saltine crackers to crunch up and add layer upon layer. Not only was my coctel near perfect, the 2 side pastor tacos were - dare I say - the best pastor meat also. That says a lot because I vacillate between 3 places in KC for the best pastor and today ECM went into that top tier. My wife had the skewered garlic shrimp plate with rice, fries and pico and a side veggie tostado. Throw in 1 Jarritos soda and our bill was $36. Priced accordingly for the quality of food they deliver. The menu is stupidly large, so give yourself plenty of time to make a decision. The multitude of seafood entree's are priced at a rate that you might not expect if you are expecting a typical Mexican restaurant menu in downtown KCK, but I wouldn't have an issue dropping a bit more cash for the dishes that I saw exiting the kitchen. Friendly staff, wall murals and great music puts you in a beach cantina mood. This may be my wife and I's new secret go-to spot.
