This is literally the third time I've ordered via Uber Eats and they've messed it up. I'm done with this place now unless I happen to be in the area. Apparently they don't care at all about their customers. Seriously--how hard is it? If someone orders okra? Send the damned okra. Someone orders a soda? Send it. Orders pickles? Send those too. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS READ THE TICKET!!! Not their fault the oysters were cold but they didn't taste very fresh. This only partial meal--since they once again didn't pack even close to everything I paid for-- is going in the trash. I didn't update my review until they messed up three times. Look--if a restaurant can't handle delivery orders with a minimal level of competence then they shouldn't accept them. Quick service, courteous staff, and very tasty fried catfish! Folks seem to love it here during lunch. The restaurant has more of a "meat counter" feel to it. Definitely an official place to buy raw fish and more to cook with family, friends or guests especially for events. Mad Jack's is my go-to whenever I'm in town. I have family that lives in KCK, and I promise I stop here every time I'm in town. They are a small building, and they are pros of getting their to go orders out the door in a timely manner. They also have a website, so you can order your food ahead of time and not have to wait. They have a variety of fish options that you can buy raw and take home to cook yourself, or you can get it made fresh and take it home. My normal order is catfish strips, fried oysters, hush puppies, green beans, coleslaw, and potato wedges. The food is consistently good. I would recommend that if you get a large order, make sure it is correct before you drive off. We have had a couple of bumps in the past, but I appreciate that they always fix it when there is an error and don't give you a hard time. I will continue to visit when I'm in town. read more

Only a few places in town can get it right frying fish, and this place knows how to do it. The side counter has a fish market where you can buy a variety of raw fish that they cook, that's kind of cool. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience and good quality fish. I wanted to love it cause it came highly recommended. However sadly I just didn't love it and then I felt bad cause they wanted me to love it and I just didn't love it. I got the fish and shrimp basket and although it was hot, the fish tasted like it came straight from the river. Back home we call if swampy fish and it was just not something I could get past. The shrimp was large and cooked well, the hush puppies were hit and miss. Some were fried hard, some were under cooked in the middle, and some were decent. The fries were good, the fried oysters were okay and I was slightly disappointed in my van soda as it wasn't cold. Fresh fish is also available for purchase and you can watch it cleaned and fileted on the spot. The place is small, very plain and seems to have been there a very long time. It has some seating for eating in, but no waiter service and it's really a carry-out. There are a wide variety of fish available. My favorites include Ocean Perch and Catfish. Love Mad Jack's! I have never been here before but my brother and his wife talked about it all the time so when I found myself in the area I ordered online to pick it up. There were quite a few people waiting for their food but they were also a lot of people working behind the counter which is always nice to see. In addition to being able to order fish and seafood meals you can also get fresh fish and cook it at home. I would definitely recommend ordering online, we ordered and when we got there 10 minutes later our order was ready. The only part that was a little unorganized was that there is a line for ordering when you get there and there is a different line for picking up, that was not clear when I came in so I stood in the wrong line for a little bit before I realized where I should have been. Mad Jack's uses Mississippi farmed catfish, the best (if farmed catfish isn't from the US, don't eat it!). The catfish nuggets were well seasoned and flavorful. We also got a large order of fried okra, also great, just like home. They also have wild Gulf shrimp (never eat farmed shrimp!), but to go only, I bought five pounds frozen. This place has been around since I was a little child. So it's kind of a iconic pillar of the community. My last review of this place was years ago oh, and I was in the area and I really wanted some fish. I decided to stop in and I am so glad I did. The inside of the place still looks the same well-loved but clean. They had a whole lot of people working behind the counter. What I notice this time that was different from my last visit was there were more customers eating inside as well as ordering out. I ordered a half pound of Basa with fries and a drink which was their special for $6.49. I took one look at their slices of lemon cake and although I wasn't too happy with the size of it I wanted a slice of lemon cake so I got it. OMG, hoodoggie good!!! You know your fish is good when you can eat every bite without one bit of tartar sauce. My fish was cooked perfectly the seasoning was on point. My fries were delectable. And that lemon cake was Heavenly divine. I only wish that there was a Mad Jacks in Lawrence so that I could get Mad Jacks anytime I wanted. it was just nice to be able to go back to a place that existed long before I was born and be able to still receive some of the best cooking ever. I love fried catfish!!! This place is NO FRILLS, it's pretty awesome. Just a small stand alone store, a few tables in there, and mostly a to go line. They have a fresh seafood case, which you can buy and take home, or another line which orders food. I got fried catfish strips and butterfly shrimp (fried) everything was so good. I ordered mac and cheese for my kids and they didn't love it. I got greens and I thought they were good too.
