Hands down the best fried fish in the Kansas City area. Came here to get food for dinner. I went with the dinner for two, two pounds of catfish two sides and two drinks. 10/10.

Mad Jack's is my go-to whenever I'm in town. I have family that lives in KCK, and I promise I stop here every time I'm in town. They are a small building, and they are pros of getting their to go orders out the door in a timely manner. They also have a website, so you can order your food ahead of time and not have to wait. They have a variety of fish options that you can buy raw and take home to cook yourself, or you can get it made fresh and take it home. My normal order is catfish strips, fried oysters, hush puppies, green beans, coleslaw, and potato wedges. The food is consistently good. I would recommend that if you get a large order, make sure it is correct before you drive off. We have had a couple of bumps in the past, but I appreciate that they always fix it when there is an error and don't give you a hard time. I will continue to visit when I'm in town.

    Nuggets..

I think this is my third time stopping by here on my way home. This is the second time i hadnt got what i paid for, but the fish is good, and i dont mind the wait but at the same time if im waiting i should get what i ordered. The young lady working even made reference to my filets coming,.and apologized for the wait....so why didnt i get what i ordered and what the receipt says, not to mention what you repeated back.... The food is very good though...just pay closer attention to the orders or the pick list you're using to fill orders...i want filets for a reason, not nuggets..

I wanted to love it cause it came highly recommended. However sadly I just didn't love it and then I felt bad cause they wanted me to love it and I just didn't love it. I got the fish and shrimp basket and although it was hot, the fish tasted like it came straight from the river. Back home we call if swampy fish and it was just not something I could get past. The shrimp was large and cooked well, the hush puppies were hit and miss. Some were fried hard, some were under cooked in the middle, and some were decent. The fries were good, the fried oysters were okay and I was slightly disappointed in my van soda as it wasn't cold. I personally didn't go in so I don't know what the place looks like or offers however as I said, the people I was with rave about this place, they hit this place every time they come to town, just wasn't hitting for me that day.

You know the fried fish is legit when they got Vess Peach pop.

Love the basa fillets! Easy pick up from the restaurant and food is hot. Fries are okay, but fry on the fish is good!

Ask the Community - Mad Jack's Fresh Fish

When did they close the one on 63 and troost? And is there another one any closer to us in that neighborhood?

This and that Mad Jack's were not related in any way. The restaurant on 63rd had to have permission to use the name.

I mentioned the sort of oysters just as a reference (and yes I was asked this) We each had one of the following: Aphrodite, Birthday Girl, Blackstone. Delicious. Like a mouthful of the sea in one bite. We also had the Molten Scallop and Shrimp Dip. Warm. Deep flavor. A stick of butter? Maybe. Who cares? Yum. Butter soaked crostini. Oh yeah, cocktails. That came first. I had a Saffron Honey Manhattan. Super balanced. She had a Rose Spritzer. gin, lemon, St. Germain, and... stuff. She had the Norwegian Ocean Trout. Expertly prepared. Perfect skin. Perfectly medium and soft. So good. More nuanced than salmon? I had the Chicken Fried Halibut Clavicle. I would normally order lighter and more toward raw or lightly cooked dishes. Having someone prepare an underused part of a fish... in the Midwest? I had to do it. Photos won't do that plate justice (because it was deep fried), but let me put it this way: if you're a "white meat" chicken person, you're probably happy with a halibut filet. But if you're a chicken thigh person... this is your order. Clavicle bones are angular and sorta fluted so a lot of the meat is contacting bone. Insanely moist and flavorful, but just as snow-white. Atop a bed of country mashed potatoes and sage gravy, and collard greens. Loved it. More food than the photo shows. Wow. I didn't expect that. Must have been a large fish to begin with. The counter downstairs looks cool, but the view from above provides a grounded sense of space for downtown. This place looks good on Parkville... but Parkville looks good on this place. We have lived here 13 years and have longed for a proper place to occupy the best physical space in the street. Nailed it. A great date night made better by our experience here.

The vibe is fun, the décor is gorgeous, and the DJ/music really set the mood. We each had two cocktails and a sushi roll. My cocktails were delicious, although I was a little surprised that martinis priced at $26 and $15 were served in plastic cups rather than chilled glassware. It's possible this was because drinks aren't allowed in glass outside, but it was still unexpected at that price point. The food was just okay--not bad, but not something I'd specifically come back for. The evening took an awkward turn around 9:15 when our server, who was wonderful, asked if we wanted a third round of drinks. We declined because we were getting ready to head home. About five minutes later, the hostess politely informed us that another party had a 9:30 reservation for our table and that we needed to leave. Thankfully, we were already planning to leave, but it left me wondering what would have happened if we had accepted that third round. There was no mention of a time limit when the reservation was made, so being asked to leave felt a little abrupt. It's a beautiful spot with great drinks, music, and ambiance, but the way the evening ended left a sour taste. Unfortunately, because of that experience, I probably won't be back.

We got there right at the time they open (11 am), and they were not finished setting up for the day and had us wait while they finished. We said it was no problem, but it was so long that it became frustrating. If you open at 11, that means open and ready for customers, not still setting up. Our waitress, however, was very nice and explained how the menu works. She brought us water, but it was terrible - by terrible, I mean country water with that weird metallic taste. Our waitress said she knew and that it was just how Gladstone water is - my husband agrees. Anyway, we ordered one of the boil bags with crab legs and shrimp. It came our pretty quickly and they did provide bibs and wet wipes and there were napkins on the table, so we could use as many as we wanted. Our waitress opened our bag for us and dumped it into the waiting tray. They have buckets on the table for all the shells and other trash. We did wear our bibs and said we would only have this meal with certain people because it is messy!! It was the crab legs that made it messy - if I went with someone else I would probably have shrimp (awesome) and sausage (didn't try, but I bet it's good). The shells of the crab legs were a bit soft, which our waitress asked us about. She said they have a new chef, so she was happy to provide some coaching. The place is way bigger on the inside than it appears from the front. Plenty of seating. I definitely recommend checking it out!!

Some of the best Italian inspired food anywhere. It's justifiably difficult to get a booking, as befits the best restaurant in Kansas City. Beautiful dishes in a great atmosphere. Start with the ambiance: it's usually busy in an enjoyable uplifting way. People watching is at a peak here as smart diners move between elegant and tasteful furniture while friendly, professional (and invariably handsome) wait staff glide through it all. If you recognize and appreciate good Italian design, this place will delight you before you've even glanced at the menu. Talking of the menu - it's a revolving tableau of Italian inspired deliciousness that will cause you to pause after each first bite - and look up at your dinner companion with a smile that says "wow"! Last night I had a lobster roll that defied gravity in its lightness. And the taste and texture was just perfect - what an appetizer! It was a moderate eating evening so I only had the pasta. A Carbonara of homemade thick noodle pasta with a deeply seductive cream sauce base. Paired both with a selection from the other great feature of Farina, its wine list. My selection was a minerally dry sparkling rose (I know, but trust me!) from the slopes of Etna. The wine selection is itself a wonderful experience - I'd recommend sticking with the Italian options - of which there are many, and they are quality examples some of which are rare finds in America. When you add great service and - as always - a brief check in from one of the two owners (he chef, she sommelier) you can round out a top level dining experience right here in KCMO. One to rival any other eatery in much bigger markets - or even Italy itself.

Swift's Cajun Cuisine Food Truck Review…read more I tried Swift's Cajun Cuisine and ordered the fish with fried rice and shrimp. Unfortunately, the food was just okay for me and not something I'd personally return for. The fried rice was a bit spicy and it actually tasted like it picked up several different flavors from the grill it was cooked on. I also added shrimp after placing my order and was basically charged a dollar a shrimp, I received five shrimp, but honestly, that extra purchase wasn't worth it for me. The chicken was the best part of the meal and was actually pretty good. However, I bought the chicken intending to give it to my daughter, who has a fish allergy. After purchasing it, I asked whether the fish and chicken were fried separately and was told they use the same fryer and peanut oil. That's definitely something I should have asked beforehand, so that part was my mistake. Overall, I didn't really enjoy the meal enough to feel it was worth coming back for. This is just my personal experience and taste but unfortunately, Swift's Cajun Cuisine food truck wasn't a hit for me.
