The people at Fabulous Lanai have more years of experience than the building they are in, and that's saying a lot. Anything less than 4 stars should only be because the facility is old, But once you get past that superficial assessment, you will see that the true beauty and magic of the Fabulous Lanai is the people who work there. They are experienced groomers; not newbies like they have at PetSmart. (And OH MY DOG! please don't take your pets to PetSmart for grooming. Most of the cases you've heard about dogs dying in drying cages have been at PetSmart. Plus again, the groomers at PetSmart have little to no experience.) But I digress. You might think this review is so great because I'm a paid shill. I'm not. This is an actual review by a happy customer who happens to be knowledgable about the industry. Why, you ask? Because I'm a veterinarian. I've hired groomers and I've worked with groomers for decades. I wish it was remotely possible to hire a groomer as good as Julie. So I have to pay out of my pocket to get my own dogs groomed there. And they do great work. And I just hate entitled little whiners who give bad reviews. Like they've never had a bad day? Fabulous Lanai grooming is a great little shop. I took my rescue dogs, a 7 year old toy poodle and 5 month old chispaniel mix. My chispaniel is very fearful of new places and things but the poodle is an old pro. I requested baths and sanitary cuts. I made an appointment and they had our dogs finished within a couple of hours. They looked and smelled great! Their coats were so soft. They gave us cute little bandanas to take home. It was a quaint little shop and I felt the employees cared about my dogs. They were very kind. The price was reasonable. They practiced COVID protocols as well. My Toby was a regular, they get really busy so make appointments in advance but there's times they do their best to fit him in regardless of my lack planning. This review is long overdue. I've been taking my large golden doodle here every couple of months for over 10 years, and they really are fabulous. Susan is the one who usually grooms my girl, and she has always done a great job (the other groomers are great too). They are very gentle and caring (my girl has developed arthritis). You do need to book in advance, usually about two months, but that's not a problem, and they're definitely worth it. read more

Beware!! Beware!! Out of all the groomers in Sacramento I picked the wrong one for our new fur baby. She was getting a cut to take college graduation pictures with my daughter who is her owner. First off these folks didn't ask for the puppy's shot records! Secondly, Rosa gave my baby a terrible 1st hair cut, even after I showed her a picture of the cut we wanted. When I questioned her, Rosa's answered saying, " I know I messed up" she continued saying "as I cut her hair I knew it wasn't what you wanted. " I'm thinking well why didn't you call me. She proceeded saying to me "I don't know what to tell you, but it's just hair and it will grow back". Really??? Rosa said there are no refunds, which I didn't want the money back but a redo when my dogs hair grows out. Or at least give me what I paid for?? I was robbed! I was taken! I was cheated out of my money!! Needless to say my fur baby didn't make the photo shoot. Her hair was so Uneven hair! I could have done better myself! P.S. I also take my other dog there and every time I take him it's the same spill he is matted and needs to be taken down. I know he isn't matted! No the truth is it's easier for you all to use the clippers and shave the dogs. Which is why they have so many dogs in there all with the same hair cut. They charge $45 per cut! I just came back from my 2nd visit and I'm so glad they're there. This place is a little hidden gem in the back of an older shopping center in South Landpark. I like that when I come in I can also observe how they care for the other doggies in there too so it makes me feel better that they're out in the open. It's also convenient in that they work with your schedule too. If I set up an appointment during their least busiest days which are Tuesdays & Wednesdays and I can pick them up early. I hate leaving them caged up all day so I drop them off first thing in the morning and then I can run and pick them up during my lunch hour. I brought in my very fluffy white Pekingese named Jacob and my older Chihuahua named Betsy. Jacob gets the works...nail clipping, ears cleaned, anal gland if needed, shampoo & haircut all for $37. I know he's much happier being cooler after getting his summer cut. Betsy was recently adopted and I don't believe had ever been to the groomers before & she got everything done but no haircut and she was just $15. Betsy was very nervous & scared at first and I was afraid she might try to nip but nothing to be worried about Otilia took great care of both of them. My little ones are now happy, clean & smell great. On their latest visit they even came back wearing the cutest sparkling 4th of July collars! I'm a worrywort when it comes to my babies so I can honestly say that I'm very happy with their level of service. I feel like they care about their clients, the prices can't be beat & I'll definitely be back!!! read more

I have been so fortunate to have had Fabulous Lanai groom all of my Westies for many years. The shop is tucked away and is not splashy but the love and care along with meticulous grooming is beyond compare. This is probably the reason that they are booked up and it's best to set a series of appointments for your furry pals. I have posted before about this ,but it is so important to know that, as some of my dogs aged, everyone at Fabulous Lanai was so very gentle with them. read more

I honestly never thought to put a review up for this place until recently. I haven't been to this place in years due to a bad experience with my sister's dog who's normally a well behaved, calm dog. But when I took her in a second time she was terrified to go in, I had to drag her in and I thought it might have been because it was loud but that wasn't it because she trots right into other groomers. Come to find out from someone I know who used to work there that they're not so attentive and careful with the animals. But my review was brought up because I shared what I thought about this place on Next Door (don't ever go on there, people are invasive lol) and I was questioned by some random man who's had good times at Lanai. Good for him, but he was so upset that I had a bad experience that he went to Lanai, shared my comment and name with the person there. THE PERSON THERE LOOKED UP MY INFORMATION FOR THIS RANDOM MAN, couldn't find me even though my name is spelled differently from others. But I can't believe they just looked me up in their records for some random person. And that he felt the need and right to go in and ask them to. Unprofessional and kind of rude scheduled an apt 3 weeks ago I show up they say my apt was the day before not once but twice this has happened at the same location. They must have forgot to pencil it in. They lady inside then proceeds to ask her employee if she called and she doesn't even give a proper response. I reviewed this doggie salon after bringing both of my furry little friends in on two separate occasions. I am writing a new review because after taking them in the first time each pet looked amazing. Upon bringing them back a second time, there were a few problems but I wrote it off as probably being someone different grooming them this time. There were a few spots of hiar that weren't even with the rest and one pup's ears were slightly uneven. I decided to give them another try. This time I asked for the same groomer that groomed them the first time they visited to groom them again and went over the few things that annoyed me with the previous visit. I was assured that they would fix the things I complained about but did not even receive an apology for the mistakes. Upon dropping them off the could not find one of my dog's charts ( an index card system thrown in an unorganized card holder) so I went over the instructions of how we keep the pet groomed again with detail. Upon picking up my pooches I was greatly disappointed! The same things that I had request have special attention to not happening again (and was promised would not happen again)... happened again. And this time there were more problems. Along with longer random hairs, one of my dog's chest was shaved way shorter then the rest of her body (and there were no mats or other reason for this to have happened), the ears were lop sided on both pets, they were still covered in hair that had been cut off but not blown or brushed off of them, and not to mention they seemed frantic to leave. When I pointed all of these problems and asked what happened there only excuse was that they had over booked them selves that day and I was not apologized to nor offered to bring the dogs back in to be touched up or a discount! Nothing.... that is what they did for me! Nothing. I dread to know how my dogs were treated if the shop had over booked themselves and rushed all the pets there that day. If you can't complete my pets hair cut safely and nicely, call me and tell me you can't get to them today, don't rush them through and freak them out from wanting to be groomed again. Needless to say I have brought my dogs back to their original groomer in the bay area ever since. The 1.5 hour drive is completely worth knowing they are safe and happy and well cared for! I wish there was an option to leave no stars. I've brought my cat here to get shaved several times and today will be my last. The customer service was awful and the employee that checked me in was rude. Then she goes on to talk badly about my cat in front me and keeps saying that she bites. I ask her to trim a couple spots and tells me they don't do that. Fast forward to 7 hours later when we finally get a call to come get her. Why has my cat been caged for that long?? Then after my husband picks her up she charges us $65 for shaving her stomach and her hind legs. They didn't trim her neck or anything. Ripped us off! I've taken my dog to Lanai at least a dozen times but my most recent visit will definitely be my last! I had an appointment to bring my dog in to get shaved at 12:30 PM on a Thursday. When I got there, I asked one of the ladies when he would be ready, she replied saying she didn't know but she would call me when my dog was ready for pick. This is the standard procedure so I left without thinking much of it. After 2 hours had passed I called to check up on my dog. Another woman picked up and told me my dog hadn't been seen yet but he was next. I figured if he was next it wouldn't be too long. Boy was I wrong, about 4:30 PM I finally got a call from Lanai, my dog was finally ready for pick up. When I got there I politely asked them why it took 4 hours to have my dog shaved. They told me they were busy that day in a very rude manner. I told them they should have informed beforehand, I would have definitely taken my dog elsewhere. If you're wondering why leaving your pet at Lanai is a bad idea here's why. The interior of Lanai is very humid and stuffy, obviously this is not ideal for leaving your dog in a kennel for 4 HOURS, especially in the summer heat. They also don't provide any water or food for your dogs. And I'm willing to bet they don't take the dogs out to do their business either. When I brought my dog home he went straight to his doggy bowl and gulped down water and food. It is NOT worth risking your dog's health. If they don't have an estimated time for pick up that means they're probably swamped and your furry buddy will be caged up for a long time. Remember, your dog being next does not mean within 30 mins, it could mean hours. read more

Sunny was happy to arrive there this morning. His haircut was not the greatest, a few errors. The part I really did not like was the time it took for him to get done; 7.5 hours. He's big, but it usually takes him 4 hours to get finished, with a full hair cut, so that means he had some downtime, waiting around. My shih tzu puppy was in bad need of a good groomer, but I really wanted to find someone that would be gentle and calm with him since he'd never experienced a grooming service before. I gotta say, the place is a little hard to find and nothing really to look at from the outside, but it's obvious as soon as you walk in the door the friendliness and care they have for every animal that comes in. Tina helped me with my puppy, listening to my request to keep his hair as long as reasonably possible, and did an excellent job-he looked awesome when I came to pick him up! The price is extremely reasonable, and I will definitely be back. UPDATE: I have gone back several times and have had excellent service, same day appointments, my dog has been treated with gentle and loving care, and every person there really is friendly and loves my dog. I can't possibly say enough about how thankful I am to find a place like this to trust my little man to, he loves walking around after he's been primped :) read more

I was semi-pleased with the haircut that my dog received from this place, he looked pretty good aside from the random tufts of hair that the groomers missed around his ears and the toenail that was cut too short and bled all over my backyard. What I WASNT so pleased with was the amount of time i had to wait to have him groomed. I called on a wednesday and made an appointment for friday at 1pm. I showed up on friday promptly at 1pm and filled out necessary paperwork, as it was our first visit. I asked the nice woman working there how long she thought my dog would be and she wasnt sure. She said there were a few dogs ahead of him, but would call me when she was finished. I went about my day until about 4:45 pm when I still hadnt heard anything from them. I was in the neighborhood and decided to go in and check on my precious pooch. When I walked in, my dog was nowhere to be seen at any of the 3 work stations. The women there told me that they hadnt gotten to my dog yet. I decided to wait for him, since the establishment's hours were until 5pm. I waited in their little waiting room, reading and watching the women work. It was then that I realized it was over 90 degrees outside and it was not much cooler inside! This infuriated me. My dog had been inside a kennel for almost 4 hours in 90 degree weather. The women there assured me that they had taken my dog out to pee and given him water, that there was nothing to worry about. Finally they got to him and i stepped out of the building around 6pm. My dog proceeded to pee all over the sidewalk right outside the door. Poor guy couldnt even wait to get to some grass (which he ALWAYS waits for). When I got home, he drank his water for literally 3 minutes straight. Would a dog who has been given water all day and taken out to pee act this way? Maybe, but I know my dog and I know he doesnt normally act this way. I expressed my concern to the workers and they assured me they had watered and walked my dog. They also said it took so long because I didnt have an appointment, which was a blatant lie. I was pleased with the haircut and bath, but I will not return to this establishment. I suggest if you do, get an appointment and tell them what time you need to be out by. read more

$37 to get my 16 pound schnoodle groomed. They generally stay busy, but I've always been able to drop my dog off any day that I've called. They don't really seem like the appointment kind of place, but maybe they are. Her haircut is a little uneven, however that's probably more her "being wild" than them. I used to take my doggies to Petsmart grooming until they cut MoMo and had to get him bandaged. We were then recommended by a Petsmart shopper to come to Fabulous Lanai, we've been coming here ever since!! It's a tiny shop in the back of the Lanai shops. The ladies there are awesome, and know (for the most part) how we like our doggies groomed. They're pretty manual when it comes to taking notes, using note cards instead of computers...I guess that's what makes them personable. $37 for each of the doggies, while Petsmart would normally charge $60 per doggy. Although this place doesn't seem as clean as Petsmart, but you see all of the shop here...Who knows what the back of the Petsmart grooming department looks like... read more

I love, love this fabulous place! The price is much more affordable than compared to where I used to bring my little maltipoo MuShu. Only $37 for a full groom (including teeth brushing which is $5) His breath smells pretty bad but after his groom, his breath is fresh and clean with no hint of any bad smells! The lady that usually cuts my baby's hair does a terrific job every time! This is mushu's 3rd visit (I've been procrastinating on this review) to the salon (mushu needs to go to the groomer's every 2-3 months) and I get exactly what I ask for with no surprises. The staff are both kind and talented. I used to bring MuShu to Petsmart which is much closer to my home. I had a change of heart after a couple of years and I'm so happy to have found this place. It's location is a bit hard to find because it's hidden in the back of the plaza behind the Chinese restaraunt Hong Kong something... you may have to call for directions as you cannot see it from the main street (Freeport). When I first enter, I feel a little cramped because the space is quite small. I see many cages with cute little dogs in them as well as their their work space in the back. I dropped him off and they called me about 5 hours later. Petsmart does have the 3hr promise which I was used to...but every business does has their own schedule. After I paid, they gave me a treat for MuShu to have which was great! When I used to bring MuShu to Petsmart, there were some staff that did a good job and some that did poorly. After a couple of years, I had a change of heart and decided to find another grooming salon. This was my 2nd pick - my first pick was a more popular salon in the area. When I called, they said they were booked for the next few months! I was shocked...anyway, I called this place and set up an appointment for the very same day! I'm very happy I made the change and probably will never go back to Petsmart for their grooming services. read more

My dog HATES being groomed; thank goodness the darling gals and wonderful young man who work here are so sweet to him. Pasha Dog always comes out looking like the cat's meow and the price cannot be beat! I was surprised by some of the negative reviews. In my experience, the groomers here are the same speed as any other groomer. As for their customer service, I've always been pleased with the staff. I have had to shout with the other person on the phone, but only because we couldn't hear one another over the background noise (it's virtually a one-room salon, so it gets loud). Oh, and I don't mind their index card system even when they can't find mine, ha ha. I've only had great experiences here over the last few years and highly recommend Fabulous Lanai. read more

Finding a great groomer is tough. My little Radio dog needs a special haircut and no one can seem to get it right. I have taken my bichon to groomer after groomer, and I had all but given up on finding a good one until I went to Fabulous Lanai. It runs me about $35 to get my dog groomed and his teeth brushed. Totally worth it. There are a bunch of sweet older ladies who work at Fabulous Lanai and I always feel good leaving my dog there. Also, they are very accommodating - unless it's a Friday, I can usually call the day of to get an appointment. My search for a groomer is over! read more

My Cockapoo and I have been quarterly guests at Lanai for the pat 4 years! I love the way they treat my sweet pup. The extra care they take to be gentle and loving with him really shows, and I love that I can see him and the others right there from the lobby when I walk in. Big pet stores seem to hide them in the back room, allowing my mind to wander about what the conditions are like. The fur babies like to see what's going on too, I think. They bark at the customers and watch their friends get their hair cuts! The price can't be beat, and the festive bows and ribbons never fail to make me grin. I've taken my dog here awhile back and they did a fantastic job. Then we got another dog and I decided to take both of them to get a shaved cut. Keep in mind that my dogs are small. Shouldn't take more than an hour, hour and a half to shave them. It took them 7 HOURS. Like seriously?! Not only did it take them seven hours but both my dogs had cuts. One of them had two cuts in each ear. The other only in one ear. Why wasn't I called or informed that they had cuts? Not only that but the dogs were in a rush to get out of there. Won't be taking them back again! Rather pay more if that means they won't be harmed or caged up for hours! read more

We chose this salon based on its convenient location. Our first impression was not good, as it was crowded, noisy, and seemed very disorganized. We were told it would take about 1-2 hours, and we left our phone number so they could call us. After three hours, we called and we were told it would be another hour because our dog was "wiggly". After 4 hours, we picked our little dog up, and found his nails not trimmed well, his haircut uneven, and he seemed very stressed by the high noise level in the shop. This is a small shop and there were 5 people in a very confined space all talking at once while several dogs barked constantly. We will not return. read more

I love these ladies, they are super nice and very experienced. They offer a nail trim for $5. I only get my Yorkies groomed a few times a year and the quality remains consistent despite my infrequent visits. Plus my dogs love the treats that they give out afterwards. read more

First staff told us to bring in our dog by 1000am and wouldn't give us a specific appointment. I could hear the hesitancy over grooming a "big" dog because there was all kind of discussion between the person that answered the phone and people in the background. This should have been a clue. Our dog is 13 years old and mellow and weighs 45 lbs. We made it clear she cannot sit in a cage for several hours. We took her on at at 930. My husband called at 1230 because he hadn't heard. They told him she wouldn't be done until 400 pm. He had specifically told them she could not sit in a cage long because of her age. Also dog got FLEAS FROM HERE. WE HAD OUR LITTLE DOG GROOMED HERE THE WEEK BEFORE SND SHE GOT FLEAS. we have never ever had a fleas until coming here. read more
