had a stray dog on the property, thought it may be on its last leg. So was going to take to the SPCA, but thought to give him his last grooming which he needed badly before taking him in. The owner, and staff did a fantastic job for him, and was able to see the real him. Turn out to be very beautiful and a bit happier. The owner herself decided to take him home for the weekend to care for him. Said he's doing much better. The owner and staff are currently trying to find a home for him. Absoluetly NO Customer Service! I ordered a dog ball launcher and the website description was a little confusing, making me believe this accepted standard size tennis balls - well it doesn't and the largest ball this takes is too small for my large do - he'll eat it! I have reached out to them on four different occasions to return the item as it has not even been opened and they REFUSE to reply to me AT ALL! It also took over two weeks to get to me. read more

My review of this HORRIBLE business echoes all of the other 1-star reviews. It is DISGUSTING! It is beyond FILTHY! The environment there is BEYOND ABUSIVE to their macaw! Flies all over the whole store, and a concentrated cloud of them near the macaw's cage, and inside of it as well because the cage hasn't been cleaned in who knows how long! The floor of the cage was covered in feces, dead and living flies, food, feathers and smelled so awful!! The macaw had feathers falling out in clumps and looked like he'd been unable to groom himself in months. HOW IS THE PLACE STILL OPEN??? I believe it is because of the grooming, which almost all customers have given their grooming services 5 stars. Are these customers BLIND and incapable of SMELLING????? How could you POSSIBLY think they would treat YOUR dog better than they treat their OWN animals? Because it's cheap? This type of customer should be ASHAMED that they have supported this awful "business," and have subjected their pet to the abuses others have written about in their 1-star reviews for grooming services. I am: A) finding a macaw rescue and calling them to help get the ball rolling to rescue that abused, neglected bird, B) calling Sacramento's Animal Sevices dept for a health and safety check on this business, C) filing a complaint with Better Business Bureau, and D) contacting KCRA's Call 3, explain what I've seen and SMELLED here, and beg for their help in exposing this INHUMANE, DESPICABLE, DISGUSTINGLY DIRTY "business", in an effort to REQUIRE without question the establishment of healthy practices for their animals, including PROPER care and cleanliness for the macaw and other animals they keep at their business. Great guy! Hometown feel inside. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Prices were right in line with others. The owner I assume even waited for me to pick out a bird after closing time. I arrived 20 minutes after closing and thought I just missed him. He kept his word as did I and we picked Heather, a parakeet for my daughter. My dog was definitely acting different after I picked him up, like he was afraid of being abandoned. Idk. This was last Friday. He didn't even want to go on walks for a few days, he just wanted to be close to the house. He also tried to purposely pee on me and my friend when something in the house fell and scared him. He usually just pees while running away but this time he lifted his leg and tried to pee on my foot!! On Monday, I was petting Marley's ear and felt something and it looked like they cut his ears somehow. I called and spoke with the owner and he wanted me to bring Marley so he can see, I refused and offered him photos instead. I texted them to him and he said the cuts were probably from pulling hair from his ears and that he would talk to the groomer and call me back. He never called back, which is why I'm making this post now. Did they pull all his hair out at once making it bleed? I don't know, I wasn't there. This isn't Marley's first time being groomed there, his first experience seemed fine because he was fine and happy afterwards. Wagging his tail and the groomer going on about how awesome he was. Those injuries aside, I can't help but wonder if he was abused somehow. Just speculating bc I read other reviews claiming some sort of abuse. Which is sad and puts bad thoughts in my head and I can't go there. My dog can be a real asshole sometimes. I didn't get the name of the groomer and I wish I did!! . read more

I tried to explain over the phone but didn't get any where. I have been using this place to have my mini schnauze's nails cut. David always ask if her could groom her. I do it myself to save the $$ Finally 1/13 I let him cut her. After 3.5 hours I took her home and noticed her tail and butt area wasn't touched. So in the next couple of days. I wanted to cut away the hair. It just looked bad. So as I'm trying to get all the hair there was a dried piece of poop there. And brushed her beard it had 5 different layers. I just can't say how disappointing this has been. He said he gave me a discount at $50. Usually he charged $75. This is for a 10 lbs mini schnauzer. Come on for what wasn't done I'm still contemplating reversing this charge of $50 from my atm. I tried to call and explain myself the women wasn't having it. I hung up. I've decided I'll pay a little more to get her nails cut somewhere else. Unbelievable!! read more

Small mom & pop/ locally owned and operated pet grooming and supplies. Their prices are unbeatable for legit dog grooming. They take great care of your pup and take their time to make sure you get exactly what you want. Usually takes about 2 hours or so for full grooming/ wash/ cut (depending on the size, I have a Pomeranian). They will call you when your pup is ready to be picked up. Or your can call them for an update. The parking lot is a bit small, but there is street parking. They accept cards, but I like to pay and tip in cash money honey. read more

I 've been thinking of buying a parrot from David (the Owner) and we have haggled on the price for some time now. I go in occasionally to see this one baby bird that Dave says he'll keep for me when I decide to get it. One thing that strikes me is David has a vast knowledge of birds and he is always giving me deals on cat food. Couldn't be nicer guy and hope his store remains open forever or until I decide to finally break down and buy that parrot. I've taken our rabbit, Winnie, to Pets Paradise for years to have her nails trimmed. She's now eight years old. The folks there are so kind and gentle with her. Today she had her nails trimmed, her runny eye area clipped and a good fur brushing too. I can't say enough about how great this experience is every time. read more

The smell was so overwhelming I would rather be ouside in the smoke. We went in to look at bird cages but seeing how dirty everything in the store was we quickly left. The rats they sell were over crowded and dirty, there was junk and products just thrown around the store, and the poor macaws cage was dirty. The main reason for writing this review was the mistreatment I observed while the female groomer was brushing this dog. She was basically ripping at this malteses tail saying "gentle doesnt get the knotts out" causing the dog to wince and cry. Her response to the dogs crying was yanking the leash back and forth and yelling at it to stop across the store. I know I wouldnt feel safe leaving my dog there. read more

It really pains me to write this review because they are a family-owned business but it needs to be said. I came in the store looking for fancy mice (because I called ahead and they said that they had them) and there was a lady there that said there were only feeder mice. It made me pretty angry because I called ahead. Other than that, the animals in this store are being ABUSED. The cages for any of the animals are too small, too crowded, and very dirty. The animals were stepping on each other and it pained me to see so many animals with obvious health conditions. I saw multiple dead animals, and the smell in this store is very strong. It is obvious that these animals are not taken care of. The rats were in tanks and there were multiple hamsters in VERY small cages, like a cockroach wouldn't be happy in a cage like that. Also, there were mice that were very young and I asked how old they were and she said that mice were born all the time in the store, so they probably don't sex their animals. I feel horrible for the animals that have to live there. The size of the tanks and the sight of those poor abused animals will haunt me forever. read more

Often if I see a pet store, it is fun to go in and browse to look at the critters. This pet store is not far from the Land Park Zoo so if you are in the area, stop in and have a look at their small fur babies - hamsters, guinea pigs. There are many parakeets (there was much chirping but I noticed when we spoke, it quieted down as if they were listening) and some reptiles. The owner was very accommodating and helpful. I noted too that the lady doing grooming at the back of the store handled the dogs very gently. So if you are looking for a groomer, give them a call and you will experience their helpfulness yourself. read more

Small, family owned business that sells anything and everything! The owner is extremely nice and willing to bargain with customers on prices! Bought a large bunny cage for only $30 and it came with a water bottle and litter box! He literally sells EVERYTHING! (I.e. rats, mice, snakes, bunnies, guinea pigs, and birds to cages, pet food, crickets, leashes, offers dog/cat/rabbit grooming, etc.) I love coming here versus Petco and PetsMart because the owner tells you straight up what the best products are for your pets and how to properly care for them--if you're a new pet owner. He has helped me raise my two bunnies since they were only a few months old and I appreciate and value all the advice he has given me! read more

A great pet food & supply store that also offers grooming. I went shopping there for dog food and left thinking about getting a bird for the family to enjoy. Today I came into pick up my Dog and I caught one of the groomers hitting another dog. She didn't realize I was there and made an excuse when she looked up. It made me feel incredibly uncomfortable. The staff got nervous and couldn't find my Dog's leash. I called a friend and asked if that was normal since she takes her Dog to a groomer as well and she said absolutely not. We will not return. This is honestly one of the scariest pet shops I've ever seen. It smells HORRIBLE when you walk in, like a dirty uncleaned animal shelter. All of the animals are in poor, cramped and dark cages. The geckos have NO HEAT LAMPS!! Poor little things looked so sad and lifeless. The bird cages were horribly messy and filthy. I could hear the whimpering of dogs in the back where they are kept in dark kennels. Unfriendly staff. Idk, I feel like the pets are being abused and honestly I felt really sad afterwards. I got out of class at SCC early and walked around the neighborhood waiting for my ride, and decided to stop in here as I have always driven by but never gone in. It hurts me to write this review because I know this is a family business but that does not excuse the conditions I saw. It was a really sad place. There are far too many rodents per cage (I say cage but they were really aquariums) and they were all stepping on one another and just generally looking as though they are being very minimally being cared for. There were rabbits in tiny cages without water, massive bearded dragons in tiny aquariums without heat lamps, and crowded bird cages in the dark. I did notice a mouse in a cage by himself, which I promptly realized was dead. There were several isles I couldn't go down because of boxes and other storage in the way. There was a grooming area in the back which, according to other reviews is very good, but based on the other conditions I would be more than hesitant to bring my pet there. read more

The moment I stepped in this place, I should've known something was wrong. I came here two years ago in search of a hamster to call my own and emerged with a long sad/crazy story instead. Here we go.... The lights were off, they often are (this place looks closed all the time from the outside), there were kibbles all over the ground and it smelled like pee. I walked in there and if the strong urine smell doesn't hit you on the way in, the screeching of the birds will. It almost seemed abandoned until a young teenager came out of the back and asked what I was doing there (How rude!) I asked if they had any male hamsters and she pointed to a dusty shelf with a tank sitting on it. To my surprise they had a tank filled with about 10-13 hamsters. For those of you who don't know, this is a very unusual situation. Hamsters are solitary/territorial creatures. More than one hamster per cage or tank is very hard on a hamster and many times if more than one is in a tank/cage they will fight until the other dies. After experiencing only a few minutes in the horrible place, I felt it was my duty to rescue at least one of those hamsters so I took the smallest one there that looked as if he wouldn't make it, especially in those conditions and asked if it was a male. I specifically asked her if it was a boy because I had previous experiences with raising male and female hamsters and found that my favorites were males. She 'verified' that the one I picked was indeed a male and gave me a used UPS box to put him in (sketchhhhh). I took the poor little guy home and it turns out he wasn't the nicest hamster. I was wondering why he was so protective and moody, he bit me twice even in the first day even. I assumed it was because he was used to living in such poor living conditions with the other hamsters in the tank the he found the only way to survive was being aggressive. This however may have been part of the answer but wasn't the only reason for his strange behavior. It turns out that this male hamster wasn't so male after all. I woke up one morning to find 6 little pink hamsters wobbling around in the tank! They sold me a pregnant female! Pet Paradise has a variety of hamsters but they don't separate males from females so what do they do naturally? BREED! Not okay. These poor creatures live under horrible conditions! Hamsters are supposed to be separated not squished in a tank! So after she had babies, I went back to the Pets Paradise to give them a piece of my mind. The same girl was working and I told what had happened. She didn't seem so interested in apologizing but instead offered to pay me for the babies. WTF!! She was crazy to think I would sell anything back to this wretched place where the mistreatment/disregard for animals was bound to repeat itself. If there's anything I learned from this experience it's to trust your gut instinct. I was not too quick to judge this place and I should have from the start. Please do not support this place. These people obviously don't care about the animals and for some bizarre reason they're still in business. If there are any regulations for pet shops, this place doesn't follow them. It's been two years since that day I purchased the hamster and I have no intentions of stepping another foot in this place. YUCK read more

Needless to say we will not be going to this store ever again! We had a similar experience as another reviewer mentioned. Only with rats! My 13 year old's pet rat had passed away of old age. He was almost 5, which is actually pretty old for a rat. A few months after he passed, we decided to adopt 2 male or female rats and someone mentioned to us this place existed in our neighborhood. To be honest, we had never noticed this place before in the million times we drove past it to go grocery shopping at Raley's just up the street or to get videos from Blockbuster which is literally a block away. We thought we would try this place out since we like to support our neighborhood businesses. At first glance, the place does appear to be closed. The smell of animal urine and feces hits you as you enter the door. Since I saw a middle aged woman and teen girl doing what appeared to be cleaning of cages, I let this pass. I thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt. In addition to the smell, the place was very humid and the air stale as if noone thought it important to have the air on for the animals calling this place home. In our quest to explore and looking at the various animals, we walked through what can only be described as a very cramped, cluttered, and dusty space. I should have run back out the door. But I didn't. My first mistake. The rats were kept in one medium sized aquarium (approximately 10-15 gallon). I have never seen so many rats in one space except in horror movies. They climbed all over each other in anticipation when we hovered over their "home". The ones we held were not aggressive but did seem anxious when we tried to place them back in their "home". I was not keen on adopting anything from what appeared to be a chaotic nightmare for animals; however, my animal loving child felt it would be inhumane not to "rescue" at least one animal from this nightmare. Needless to say, we did wind up adopting 2 female rats. About 2 weeks later, we discovered we had purchased at least one pregnant rat. Of course we discovered the litter early in the morning when we went to do our daily check for food and water and morning petting and holding. The litter apparently was born overnight. Luckily for us the two females worked together to take care of the litter. What we did not know and found out later was the other female was pregnant too and gave birth a week later. We managed to find homes for the litters because there was no way we were taking them back to that nightmare store. I did call the store to discuss the situation and recommend they seperate the females and males and was advised they would look into the situation. They did offer to rehome the babies from the litters for us. However, I was not comfortable with that suggestion. I can only assume they did not do anything about the conditions and wish there was a way to have this place cited for unhealthy conditions. But it does not appear that there is such a mechanism, unless there is outright animal cruelty or abuse. This apparently is not considered cruel living conditions. read more

Pets Paradise ... I think not. I stopped in here today and it made me sad. The one good thing I can say is, I did not see any puppies or kittens for sale. They had reptiles, rodents, rabbits and birds. I didn't think it very good to see the birds in small cages in that dark space. Worse yet were the rats in an aquarium. When I inquired about the gender, I was told "mixed"... good grief! I was asked, "Do you want to buy one as a pet?", which made me wonder. So I asked, "What else do they sell them for?" and was told they are for sale as pets, but they were not really friendly. Others were pointed out that I was told were friendly. I shudder to think what will become of those that are not friendly when they do not become pets because no one bothered to socialize them. It also bothered me that if someone did choose to buy one as a pet, it could be pregnant because they didn't bother to separate males and females. read more

Now my daughter and I take are Poodle and Maltese to Pets Paradise to be groomed by Phyllis and she know what to do with there mess. I took my 9 year old lab/? large doggie to get bathed, nails cut & ground for smoothness & his ears cleaned. He also has (had) enough of an undercoat to make a dozen thick blankets. I have been brushing him daily & hardly making a dent. When I picked him up..he was happy smelled great & absolutely no undercoat!!! He is so proud of his new clean look. They also put a scarf with red & blue stars on his neck in honor of the 4th of July. I am very pleased & so is our dog Jack. Found our new "spot"..all of that for $40!! I was shocked. I also bought a FURminator for less than I would have spent at Petsmart. I love supporting small business..you will not be disappointed! read more
