If you deal with Troy I feel sad for you. He is so rude, has all the answers before you explain anything or doesn't bother asking questions. I had my patio cover installed by him and 8 yrs later I call to ask about get another downspout. His answer we don't do that's not his way of doing business. They install and after that, no maintenance or help. pretty much on your own. oh really.. so he proceeds to tell me I didn't do gutter cleaning and there's all my problems. I should've known better to call because when he installed my cover the downspouts were so far back it dumped rain water on my patio. he threw on some uneven extension scraps of the panels and called it a day. Seemed annoyed about that too. I think this is horrible customer service. He didn't care then and doesn't now. So good luck to you if you go with him. I do clean my gutters btw. only needed help with this horrible downpour we are having. The holes are small so don't drain fast enough. I also told him I thought he might like a good review. This company is fine for new jobs but is not interested in upgrades or fixes. We have been asking for over a year to have someone come out to quote an upgrade and inspect some leaks. We have been assured that it will be scheduled multiple times but we have had no action. We were even warned that if they send someone and the leaking issue is due to our gutters, we will be charged a fee. We've sent photos to prove that gutters are not involved. Our warranty is now almost expired. I feel they are just waiting us out. read more

When the customer ask for written quote he denies to do business. Troy Eckstein walks on water in my experience working with him!!! The man is amazing, kind, so knowledgeable, and fair with his pricing. It was real luck to be referred to him. Troy himself came out and gave me an estimate that was affordable and very fair for a repair job I desperately needed. Branches from a massive city tree fell on my existing 18 month old patio cover, causing the patio cover rafters to bend, break and look horrible from a strong wind. The guy who originally installed I found out did a real shoddy job, he over charged me, and didn't use the Alumawood, but a cheaper knockoff with missing caps/covers the pieces put together instead of long piping. But instead of working with me on a fair price for an easy quick repair, he wanted to charge me 1/2 of what I had already paid him to do a 2.5 hour repair and was so nasty to talk to on the phone. Basically telling me right out he's not making any money on a repair and is booked out for 8 weeks. I would have left the patio cover in disarray if I had to deal with him again!!! Troy took great care of me, and sent his guys out the following week to quickly repair the collapsed rafters that were bent and a mess. Troy's company uses the real stuff, Alumawood, and instead of using all these chopped up pieces, his guys replaced the damage with long one piece poles and it looks so much better then when it was originally done. My experience is very similar to Tricia G's review back on 12-15-19. I had an appointment scheduled for 2pm on Tue 4-7-20 with their salesperson George. Since it has been raining off and on, George called me the evening before to touch base and let me know that if it was raining tomorrow, that he likely wouldn't make it over and that he'd reschedule....BUT because he lived in Yorba Linda and I'm in Laguna Hills, he would still call if it was raining in his area since quite often, even though it's raining in one area, it may be fine in the other. Well I don't know what the weather was like in Yorba Linda around 1pm or so, when he would have needed to be leaving to get to me around 2pm, but while it was damp outside from drizzling off and on earlier, it wasn't raining at 2pm at my house. It didn't start drizzling again, then eventually raining until about 3pm. Regardless of the specifics, I never heard from George or anyone else. Around 4:45pm I called the office, but all I got was voicemail. I would have called George, but I didn't know which number was his from his call the day before. I left a detailed message including that I would now prefer to hear from Troy the owner, in order to reschedule another appointment as I no longer felt the need to see or talk to George since he stood me up. I figured I'd wait a bit before leaving a bad review and hopefully give them time to redeem themselves. But between Tuesday and now Friday morning, I have yet to hear from anyone. The funny thing is, that thru my "so called" due diligence, I had narrowed my search down to only two companies that would compete for my business. As of now, it looks like The Patio Man, Chris will get it by default. Although I may still wait another day before finalizing my deal. Update #1. I'm pleased to report that within 5 minutes of posting my review, Troy (the owner) called to profusely apologize and address his sales guy George dropping the ball. We have a large wood patio cover that unfortunately has developed dry rot and needs to be replaced. Since it is a large cover and the replacement cost will be significant, we decided to ask for 5 bids. The first 4 companies provided their bids within a day of their visit with us. Factory Direct was to be the 5th bid and we were visited by George Morgan on Friday afternoon. George appeared to be experienced and was very exacting when he took the cover measurements. He also spent a long discussion session with us to share the benefits of his product and reliability of the company. George was with us for 2 1/2 hours, which was much longer than the other bidders. When we concluded our discussion, George indicated that he would draw the proposed cover on graph paper over the weekend and get back to us Monday or Tuesday. We had hoped for a quicker response but he appeared to be creditable so we thought the wait would be worth the anticipated proposal. Monday we didn't hear anything from George and by Tuesday mid morning I decided to call to get a status update. When I phoned the company, aa pleasant woman informed me that George was out of the office, but that she would text him and I should expect his call. Following that commitment there was no call the remainder of the day Tuesday. Then no call on Wednesday, or Thursday or Friday. This is a very unprofessional company represented by an unreliable sales representative. My recommendation is, if you are interested in wasting 2 1/2 hours talking to someone who is not going to provide you with anything useful, and if you enjoy making phone calls to a company that does not return them, then George Morgan at Factory Direct is the salesman and company for you. If on the other hand you would like to do business with a reliable creditable company that can provide you with a nice, quality patio cover, I would look elsewhere. read more

Had an appointment scheduled to estimate a solid cover at 12:00 yesterday. Called at 12:30 to find out where he was. Was informed that he told the office he wasn't sure he'd be able to come because there was drizzle. It stopped drizzling at 10am. Said they would find out where he was and call. They didn't. My wife and thought about it over night and decided to go with factory direct. The job was scheduled for a week later. On the install date, 4-5 guys came out to install my combo lattice and solid pan patio cover. The following day 3 guys (Rick, Brian, and Jose - thanks guys) to finish the job. The best thing was Troy never took a deposit, not one penny...he said you pay me when the job is done and you are happy. Troy knows patio covers! With this crazy hot "winter" in So Cal, it was time for us to replace our backyard patio cover. The purchase and installation experience was Very Good. I would say the experience was Great, if they had contacted me a couple of times to just let know they were still awaiting the product. Due to Covid, there was a long wait for the material to be made for my project and they had warned me it could take a couple of months. We have a 1911 Craftsman home and I wanted to have a traditional wooden patio cover but decided to go with the Alumawood because of maintenance . The Alumawood looks just like wood and the quality in workmanship is impeccable. When people look at it they think it is real wood until I tell them differently. My house is now known as the party pad by both our families. First, Let me rewind a bit. I did my homework months before getting my cover installed. Troy spent a good 30 minutes with me answering all of my questions. He even gave me a quote over the phone and told me he would honor it when I was ready to have my cover installed. Ok! Fast forward, I was at the final stages of making a decision on getting my patio cover installed. I called Troy once more. Again he spent quality time with me on the phone and even told me what to watch out for if I decided to go with someone else. He gave me the pros and cons of the other guys and I have to say the cons out weighed the pros. Troy is truly an honest person that cares about the consumer whether they buy from him or not. We set up an appointment to have George, his outside sales rep, come out to get measurements and to confirm what we talked about would work with my house. He reassured me that George was not a high pressure salesman and would not try to sell me anything I didn't want. Boy was he right! George came out and measured the area in my backyard. George came with a folder and samples of the actual alumawood type of ends along with the actual colors. The folder contained an extensive list of references of happy customers and reports from the BBB and Angie's List. It also had different options for the posts and styles. We chose a combo. 15' by 10' lattice and 20' covered. Once I confirmed with George that I wanted to have the patio cover installed he ordered it from the manufacturer then gave me an install date. George was very friendly and professional throughout the whole process. He is great at communicating with any questions or concerns you may have. The day came to have the patio covered installed and I met with Rick and his crew. He told me exactly how long it would take to have my patio cover installed and he finished on time. Rick even left touch up paint to match the colors of my patio. Rick has the same concerns and compassion for his customers as Troy and George do. My family loved the patio cover. My brothers are both planning on having patio covers installed from Factory Direct Patio Covers once they complete other projects in their homes. My sister-in-law liked the patio so much that she had George come give her an estimate and she had hers installed within two weeks of when we got ours installed. Recently we had our patio cover torn down and a brand new Aluma Patio Cover built by Troy Eckstein and his company Factory Direct. The patio cover looks awesome! From the beginning they were excellent from the bid being very reasonable and quick within minutes, to the completion being on time and exactly what they had said they would do. I was amazed that he did not want payment for anything till the job was completed except for the haul away of our previous patio cover which was not much at all. Usually the contractors want half payment up front or even more than that. The Alumawood materials are very 'wood like' and they blend in with the wood that we already have above so you cannot tell the difference except that we will not longer have to deal with wood rot or termites....
