We had Connor and Mark, and their team, rebuild our backyard deck and deck railing, which extends out over a downhill slope. My wife and I have lived in our Trabuco Canyon home for 32 years. Our view of the Saddleback Mountains is spectacular. I have dreamed of replacing our old lattice patio cover with a solid patio cover with a walkable roof to enhance our view. Our new patio cover is 16' x 32' and my lumber selection of 6" x 6" support beams with two crossbeams that measure 6' x 10' and 30 sheets of ¾ T & G plywood deck. There are five coats of waterproofing color-matched to our house trim. Looking at the cost material for all this lumber during the massive industry increase of 60% and higher makes you question why not wait until the lumber prices go down or use composite material or steel. I am old-school and love the look of wood, and I am impatient. We began the process of selecting the railing that would not disrupt the beautiful view and needs minimal maintenance plus be weather resistant was a must. I didn't like the Trek product for this application because of possible failure when the grandkids would be on the deck. Wood, glass, or cable seem the best options. After researching and viewing several pictures of railing, we decided to look at the cable railing and started to get excited with the look and finishing touch to our dream balcony. The first company I contacted was eight weeks out for new work, I couldn't wait two months with an open deck that needs railing ASAP. My second call was to iReFinish Decks, a local company in Lake Forest. I spoke to the owner, Mark Josipovich, and told him what I was looking for and that my biggest concern was his lead time for completion. He stated that without looking at it, lead time is about four weeks to start and three to four days to complete. Mark said that he would be in the area this afternoon and could look at the deck and give a better idea. Mark arrived with his son, Connor, that same day, which I thought was unbelievable, we all went out on the deck. When I informed Mark that our house sits on the old Escape Country motorcycle park, he looked at me and said, "I want to be a part of this," I told him I wanted him to be a part of it too. After talking with Mark and Connor, they took some measurements and Mark said he was finishing up a couple of jobs and would prioritize my railing. They left and Mark said he would email a quote to us with a start date. When I received the proposal from iReFinish Decks, it was all laid out with measurements, gauge of steel for posts, and stainless-steel cable. It was like they saw our vision and the best part was they could start the project the following day! The price was in our expectation of cost, and we said, yes, let's do it. From the start I knew that we had chosen the right company. All the cutting, fabricating, and coating was done in their shop, not in our backyard. When work was done in the backyard, they cleaned up and ran a 24" magnet across the entire work area so there wouldn't be a chance of leaving any metal pieces in our yard. They brought a template post to check to see if it fit before making the remaining posts. Mark asked me to look at the post he made, and I couldn't believe how solid if felt. The welds on the plate to the post were perfect, they made the post with thicker steel than quoted, increasing his cost but not ours. That is what Mark does! Connor told me that when his dad sees an opportunity to improve any job, he normally does the improvements without up charging the customer to enhance the quality and craftmanship and outcome of all their work. Our experience with iReFinish Decks exceeded all our expectations from the posts that were powder coated and not just painted to the stainless-steel wire and fittings. The best part of our entire deck, besides our view, is the 32' 2 x 6 wood piece that goes across the top. It is solid with only three knots in the entire piece! I expected to have a seam in the middle. When Mark and Connor showed up with this piece of lumbar, I was in awe at how beautiful this piece of wood is and the effort and relationship that Mark and Connor have with Ganahl Lumber to acquire this beauty. Reliable, honest, good workmanship, thorough - just a few things that I really like about them. Recently, I needed my deck and concrete cleaned and sanitized as I have two very large dogs that like to make it smell a little more like them. Even though I had not used them in the past for a job like this, I called them and they were happy to accommodate my needs. They were much more thorough than I had expected. They came with great knowledge about pet odors, concrete, decking and the care that each of them needed. Mark did an absolute amazing job refinishing our deck. He measure out and went over every part of our deck during the quoting process. He provide a very detailed statement of work and timeline for the job. His refinishing process was excellent. His team sanded off all of the old paint, applied sealant, and three coats of paint. His team was very accommodating when we wanted to make tweaks along the way. Afterwards there were some paint bubbles and some sap and he was able to have his team fix it in a few days.
