I only learned about it because a local cinnamon roll vendor sets up shop every Sunday at the farmers market,so what began as my search for an incredible cinnamon roll turned into me discovering the cutest little farmers market in Carmichael. This farmers market happens once a week on Sunday mornings from 9am-2pm. This market is located at Carmichael Park on Grant Avenue. Generally I'd say there are about 50 or so vendors each week at the market,though I have seen that number a little higher on random weekends. Free parking at this park is pretty plentiful as Carmichael Park has many parking spaces available. These vendors are pretty good-quite similar to the vendors that I've seen at the Midtown Farmers Market-fresh fruits and veggies,a few vendors making fresh foods,like the cinnamon rolls vendor that got me to this farmers market. They have a vendor who has massage chairs setup and offers massages to customers. Another vendor I love is an Asian Bakery,selling incredible milk bread and sells these great egg salad sandos on milk bread-solid stuff. The best vendor, though,as I mentioned earlier is the cinnamon roll vendor and it's fabulous.The lines for this vendor can be pretty long and they sell out every weekend-I fully recommend them. In closing,I f you ever find yourself in the Carmichael area on a Sunday morning and your a fan of farmers markets,do yourself a favor and stop on by the Carmichael Farmers Market-it's pretty good.

ALWAYS ALWAYS good, and VERY friendly workers. In summer, MUST try pluots, plums, nectarines, tomatoes. For flowers, I LOVE when the sweet pea and gladiolas are out. I can't remember name of this family, but they are very reasonably priced and their flowers are lovely! Today I scored some smoked salmon and smoked halibut. AMAZING! It is very pleasant with a great variety of produce, nuts, organic eggs, plants etc. There is usually a clown that make balloon animals and live music. We have been regular customers of many of the farmers that come here. We have even followed some of them when they were in a different location. We have our favorites! If you come here for your fresh produce, you will soon have favorites of your own.

Don't get me wrong - I'm delighted that we have this Thursday option! But I was hoping to see more vendors and a wider variety of offerings: e.g., there were at least four stands of cherries, but only one offering kale or tomatoes. The stone fruit was plentiful, but the ones we tried had been picked slightly green and were still hard. They sell a a great little amount of produce but of what they sell, I think it's a steal. The veggies are fresh, huge and meaty looking. Deals are consistent with the large produce store or better. Staff is super friendly as they also assist with some job placement JAVA program in the next bay. They do accept cards and I was told the produce comes from locals farms. Parking can be a challenge as it used to be a Fire Station of old, which adds to the nice decor of a neighborhood corner store.

Urban farming...who knew??…read more I sure as hell didn't! My first experience, and hopefully not my last, was while volunteering at the Autumn Equinox Celebration a few weekends ago. I generally associate Hurley avenue with The Kitchen, the street to the mall, the movie theaters, a bunch of random big box stores/shops...not where I'd find a hidden oasis of urban farming! I can't really review the farming situation, because what I saw was a decked out landscape of food tasting, booze drinking, social responsible being group of people who were supporting an underground culture of urban farming. A friend asked if I'd like to volunteer at this event. Sure, I don't mind donating my services to a good cause. This BY FAR is the most underrated event in Sacramento. I almost don't want to yelp about it, so it stays cool and awesome - but they do cap it off, so get in where you fit in. Every good eatery on the grid and in the Handle district is here. Even some of the good spots off of the grid were here too. There was plenty of food for everyone and booze, no short supply of anything. Unlike most events, IF you even had to wait in a line, it was less than five minutes. The whole event was also "no waste"! For those of you who don't speak hippie, this means no trash was created - we used mini wine glasses, plastic plates, and silverware. The vendors generally just plated everything on your plate, with the exception of a few vendors. Those that did use a serving dish, were made of bamboo or something hippieish of the sorts. After volunteering and consuming their food and booze (this was okayed by the volunteer lead), I realized that I want to volunteer at their actual farm in Rancho Cordova. This event made me want to volunteer my time to their efforts, it is a great non-profit. Everyone was so warm and inviting, and genuinely nice - from the staffers, the other volunteers, the vendors, and the celebrators, not one person had a bad attitude. They open early and close at 2:00 weekdays, 5-1 Saturdays and 6-9 on Sundays. 4 plantains will cost you between 3 and 4 dollars. They are a good size, not as big as you see in Puerto Rico but better than most supermarkets. I guess this is where restaurants get their supply from. I cooked 1 of the 2 ripe plantains last night and they were perfect.
