This hotel has made major improvements over the past few years. The fitness center has been refurbished compared to several years where guests were sent to the local YMCA in Dubuque. The food quality during breakfast has become better over the past year due to serving more hot items. The rooms are still the same and eventually the cooling/heating units will have to be replaced. The rooms are only quiet if you have cooperative guests who are respectful during the evening hours. I like the proximity of the Olive Garden restaurant being next door and the ease of leaving the car in the parking lot and walking next door saves you from having to make decisions about dinner when your day is over. I told the manager regardless of the new Townhome Suites opening up in Dubuque, I will continue to patronize this Marriott brand as long as they are keeping their facility clean and hospitable. read more

A solid brand that is consistently good across the Nation, Dubuque's Fairfield Inn met all expectations in a recent visit to the area that focused on the Field of Dreams Movie Site. Located 5-10 minutes from downtown Dubuque and about 25 minutes from the Field of Dreams, they have a clean, efficient hotel that is led by a quality GM (Erin), and a friendly staff. The rooms work well, three-story property that features a large parking lot and the rooms were designed with plenty of area to relax and work. Had no issues throughout my stay. read more

I was in Dubuque for some referee business over the weekend and rooms seemed to be overpriced for the quality of rooms available. While I loathe using Priceline, it seemed like the only option. I chose a $65 bid for a two-star property. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a Fairfield Inn; then wondered why a Fairfield would be rated so low. Rooms are nicely decorated with modern looking furnishings and decor. Pretty extensive cable lineup, though I was disappointed that FS1 wasn't available. Breakfast was reasonable--scrambled eggs, a oatmeal bar w/toppings, sausage patties, bagels, muffins. Fruit infused water and juice was available as well. Newspapers are available in the lobby. 24 hour fitness center, friendly staff. A good value at the pricepoint. read more

Save your money and stay somewhere else. It was a mess from the get go. They overbooked and put us in the so called "general manager" suite. Ya right! Blood and hair in the beds, tv didn't work, mold in the shower curtain, used rag in the shower and the elevator is a death trap! If this is the "gm" suite than I hate to stay in one of the regular rooms. The girl at the front desk when we checked in told me no other rooms were available, however was considering to kick her friend out of a room and would change the sheets for us. WTF is going on at the Fairfield is beyond me. Checked out and went to the Hilton! Someone from senior leadership needs to make a drive to Dubuque and get this run down Marriott back to what a Marriott should be! read more

I would pass this up and go to the Hampton Inn instead...here is why. Normally, we LOVE Marriott. Rarely do we have a problem. Maybe because this is a "Fairfield Inn" Marriott? I don't know.... the room smelled stale, even like old cigarette lounge smell. The air was set at 67 yet it was stuffy in there. The bathroom is so small you have to get yourself all the way to the toilet to be able to close the door! The towels and shower is nice but the amenities left are awful. In fact, our lotion was open and half used!! I threw it away thinking room service would not see one there and replace it but they did not. So we never got another one since the prior guest. The kleenex ran out and was not replaced and we used all the cups and maid service did not replace those either. We could tell the bathtub was not cleaned after our first night because the dirty washcloths were left. The staff, I think night manager, would sit outside the front door on the stoop smoking and playing on her phone! Real fun to walk into a hotel lobby through a cloud of smoke. Not impressed. I am giving it a three because the shower worked well. The refrigerator was cold enough and the bed comfortable enough. But I still say this Marriott definitely disappointed and we stay in them ALMOST all of our stays. read more

We stayed here several years ago and I sent Marriot a review to let them know this place wasn't living up to brand. When I booked this stay I thought, "it's been a couple of years. With COVID they must have improved." Apparently I was delusional. The night clerk didn't check my ID when I checked in - a common practice from what I've experienced. The elevator had a substance we decided was a broken cookie in it - except we found out it was either dog vomit, or the diarrhea the dog was having in the middle of the lobby. Our room key, despite having just checked in, didn't work. When we were finally able to get into our room it was freezing. The air was on full blast on the coldest setting for apparently hours. There were no extra blankets (probably because it was August and COVID) and we didn't want to traverse the dog diarrhea and vomit to get one from the desk. Oh and there was mold in the bathroom which really makes you question their cleanliness during a pandemic. A little hard to find at first. For some reason the GPS wouldn't locate their address exactly, it said it was on the wrong side of the street. Very friendly and helpful front desk. We asked for recommendations for things to do. Everything was great except for The River Museum / Aquarium. It was a big snooze. Our room was a bit on the small side but it smelled and felt clean. Olive Garden is just across the parking lot making dinner easy. Breakfast was very nice and had a good selection of hot and cold items. Only thing that could have been better, real bacon not Canadian bacon ( aka Ham ). read more

Stayed here three different times in the last three years and had hard to overlook issues each time. #1 - I was charged twice for my room which took a few calls to the General Manager (Erin Fields)) and two weeks to get credit back on my card. #2 - Booked two rooms for my mother and me, she had a man with a small child enter here room around 11:30 at night saying the rented this room to him. My mother was terrified at that experience. I talked with Erin again and she seemed like it was no big deal, blaming it an inexperienced front desk clerk and made feel like I was just a bother to her. #3 - Again, year later, I booked rooms for my mother and me, her room had not been properly cleaned; poop stains in toilet, sink/counter had crusty toothpaste all over it, no wash clothes, bed had only a mattress pad with no fitted sheet and front desk clerk said she was new and couldn't help me. I cleaned the bathroom myself. All unexceptionable for a Marriott chain and a Elite Titanium member. Only decent thing about this hotel is the breakfast. read more

I saw some pretty mediocre reviews on several sites for this biz hotel and thought it only fair to share my experience. This is the only hotel in Dubuque, IA that is part of the Marriott chain. If you take your points seriously you naturally want to stay here. However, if you read bad reviews on a hotel you wonder if it's worth it... I heard the hotel had a noise issue and I had a major meeting in the morning. In fact, I traveled thousands of miles for a 20 minute meeting so I wasn't going to blow it by having a restless night. I called and spoke with Sherri, asking her to please give me a quiet room, that my meeting was critical. I'd be traveling for 12 hours just to get there... She promised to do her best. Boy did she ever! I loved the room she placed me in and it was beyond quiet! In fact, it felt like a cocoon. I was so tired when I arrived..this room was a blessing. So was the incredible hospitality at the front desk. Carolyn was very kind! She gave me an extra water and reminded me of the cookies. But more than anything it was the way she made me feel... Like I was welcome! The room was quite clean. Although the bathroom did have a hair (which I hate) but considering the rest was clean I looked the other way! It's a hair, not the end of the world. The bathroom floor and shower probably need a remodel but that's minor... My over all experience was outstanding for a hotel of this caliber! Thank you Sherri and Carolyn! read more

Do not stay here! Unsafe remodeling underway. Fire alarm system and sprinkler system compromised . Told manager and she was fine with it. Doors wedged open in construction area. Hope no one gets hurt. On the plus side the breakfast was good and area was clean. Since this review I have been contacted by the hotel. They try to justify the impairments to their fire protection. I have been in the fire service for over 40 years and seen situations like this have bad outcomes. I am only trying to keep the guests and staff safe. If they would just call the fire prevention bureau in Dubuque they would set them straight. The hired contractors have no idea on what they are doing and could care less. Please review your remodeling procedures because they are not safe! read more

Solid four stars for this one. The customer service at this location is exceptional, more so than other Fairfields I've stayed at in the past. As of this writing the property is under renovation and the staff is very conscientious to apologize for the inconvenience. Bathrooms are a tad cramped, and the shower nozzle made me feel like Kareem Abdul Jabbar. All in all, a decent value and would recommend. read more

As I sit reflecting on our last overnight getaway to Dubuque, IA. The weekend of June 27-29. With our friends and their girls. I'm reminded how little sleep I got. I was very disappointed in our room. If it wasn't the toilet (noise) running all night. It was the super loud air conditioner unit that kept me awake. I'd love to say I didn't sleep because of the excitement of all the fun things we were getting done in two days. However, I can Not! I can say we will be back to Dubuque. The hotel is located in a great area. Breakfast was average, waffles, muffins, cereal, eggs, oatmeal, etc. The breakfast area is small. Not that much room to move around. Coffee, teas, and hot available throughout the day. There is a pool and fitness area. The beds are comfy and the rooms are nice. We would stay again!! read more

I've stayed here many times over the years visiting my elderly father and experienced it to be a clean hotel with staff that are wanting guests to have a good stay. I'm a platinum member of Marriott. I understand New Year's Eve in hotels can be raucous in the public areas but the noise in the hallway of adults and children alike well after midnight was horrible. I understand a hotel needs to make money and multiple families staying for one night is a definite moneymaker but those families stay here once a year and took over the place. I stay multiple times a year. If I was Marriott I'd choose to make my stay enjoyable and satisfying instead. read more

This is absolutely one of my favorite hotels to stay at. Once every year since 2016, my mom, my grandma and her boyfriend, and I all meet up halfway from where we live and stay here for 2 nights. On the first day, we just relax, the next day, we go in the pool for an hour. On the third day, we leave. The breakfast area is really nice. I especially like the waffles and pastries there. The pool is very relaxing and is heated so it feels even more relaxing. I could stay at this hotel all year round if I could. read more

Pretty basic chain hotel. Good for a quick business trip in the area. Customer service at the front desk was great. The rooms seemed newly remodeled and clean, but there was a very musty / moldy smell that came from the air unit. After being in the room for an hour, I started to get stuffed up, and my allergies were rearing their ugly head. Hmmm. They did not have bottled water in the vending machine, which was a bummer. Breakfast was standard and fine. An annoyance was that the front 2 doors were not automatic. Your guests usually have quite a bit of luggage, and it is tough to open doors with your hands or back-side....consider installing some auto open doors! No issues with wi-fi, and the channel options were good. read more

Stayed here last weekend and had a great experience. The room was very clean, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. The hotel clerk offered us some bottled water when we checked in and welcomed us to the city. The continental breakfast the following morning was large, and everything tasted great. The hotel is also located right next to an Olive Garden and a Champps, for anyone not wanting to go far for dinner. read more

The staff here are what really make this place great. The manager and front desk staff are incredibly friendly. They did a great job of stressing that we should be careful as we navigate the construction areas. Yes, the hotel is set up a little differently than the newer Fairfield Inns. The bathrooms are smaller than most of the Fairfield Inns I have stayed in but it worked for us. The newly remodeled breakfast area is really nice. Always fresh coffee in the lobby. We were just there for a little league baseball tournament. We had a a very large group that seemed to hang out at the hotel quite a bit and the staff was very accommodating. With so many people we managed to take over the lobby and the pool several times. Connie was great, very patient and very helpful! She also offered to wash the kids uniforms for us since we were there for 4 days!!! The hotel was located in a great location and very close to wherever we needed or wanted to be!! The staff was nice and found my reservation. Stayed there because the other Hotels close to Oshkosh were booked up. Only stayed one night and we arrived late. The room had a refrigerator and microwave which was nice. The bathroom was horrible, the white tile had black shoe scuffs as though it had not been cleaned. That is when the smell of urine hit me and it was strong, so I refused to use the shower. I also noticed brown splatter marks on the inside portion of the seat cover. The next morning I check my bill and it is $50 dollars too high. I notified management of the problems and they said they would notify house keeping. She also adjusted my bill to the correct amount after I should her my confirmation which had the correct price. They can do much better and I know they will in the future. read more
