But late 2022, we finally got the chance to try Fairouz's $43 Mixed Grill Plate (chicken, beef, shrimp (4 count), lamb, kafta (ground beef and lamb), served with rice, salad (simply lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes, and two portions of oil based dressing), garlic dip & hummus dip), to go. Everything came well packed, with the salad in a large plastic clam shell, two little sauce containers of each dip, two ziplock baggies of pita triangles, napkins, plastic ware, all sitting on the aluminum foil covered tray of meat and rice. Since I had been enticed by Bea's photo of this dish, I was a little disappointed at the lack of grilled vegetables. But there was salad and upon reflection, the menu made no mention of such veggies, so perhaps there's been changes over time? The rice received props from this household, and wonder at how it was flavored. The meat, though medium to well done, was tender enough, and the lamb lacked that gaminess that the non-lamb-eater among us so dislikes. The kafta and shrimp were the most strongly seasoned proteins of the bunch, and the shrimp rather juicy. Both hummus and garlic dip were good, but the garlic is indeed strong with the latter, so spread with a light hand. You can always add more to taste after all. The worst that could be said was that I wished that there had been more tomatoes in the salad, and if only they had not split the pita triangles. Pitas without their pockets are rather tougher to enjoy as self made mini sandwich bundles of all the good flavors and textures. I hope they see this and reconsider. read more

This one is tough to review. The ambiance was 5-star. Good decor and music and plenty of seating for groups big and small. From a customer service perspective, I'd give it four stars at the least. Our order was taken promptly, we wanted one skewer chicken and one of shrimp and the server accommodated us, and when we weren't happy with the shrimp skewer, he also prepared a new one. One star less because no one checked in on us after the food arrived and we had to constantly keep a look out for the one server who disappeared for several minutes. The food was conflicting. The fried cauliflower with tahini sauce was delicious *chef's kiss*. The salad and garlic sauce that came with the chicken plate were also flavorful. The sauce was creamy and the salad was tangy, the dressing might be too sour for some folks. The reason for deducting two stars is the meat. The chicken was overcooked but slightly. The shrimp was rubber. The server replaced it with a second skewer saying this would be a different, grilled version but it was not much better. So overall, while I would return again, I'd opt for the vegetarian options. read more

Top notch Lebanese food. I finally came here because my husband recommended it by meeting the young owner while pumping gas randomly. Well, this food was absolutely delicious and fresh. I highly recommend the baba ganoush and the hummus and the mix grill. I love the cauliflower and the falafel bites. Just perfect! There was only one server who was the cashier as well and she was super sweet and considering she was the only one, I made sure she was appreciated. Went for lunch for the first time and really enjoyed it. Their pita is fresh made and perfectly puffed and so warm when it comes out! We had the babaganush, which was good, and we ate through the fresh pita so quickly our server gave us a free basket of more! We also got the mixed grill, which came with garlic dip and a side salad. It was delicious, hearty and we had plenty of leftovers from our meal. The pita was excellent with the mixed grill, too. The place was clean, well spaced, and quiet (we were the only ones there) and there was only one woman manning both the cashier, phone, and serving us but she was so good and checked on us frequently. Our conclusion: Fairouz is one of the best Middle Eastern restaurants in the Boston area! At 7PM on a cold Wednesday night, there were only 2 other tables occupied. The interior is spartan but nice, with plenty of cloth-covered tables and a few booths. The menu had the usual Middle Eastern specialties, and as Sheryl pointed out, a few that you may not have had before. But my companion knew just what to order: ZA'ATAR: Complementary start to the meal, with pita bread, this was excellent. My DC is addicted to this stuff, and said it was an outstanding version. FALAFEL ($9): Served with plenty of tahini in a sauce boat, these were well made and cooked all the way through, although more dense than I prefer. A crunchy crust, but no burnt or old oil flavor. My companion particularly liked them. HUMMUS ($7): A sizable bowl served with plenty of pita (not warm), this was very thick and delicious. Maybe not the best hummus I've ever had, but I'd be happy to eat this every day. I like that there was so much of it, with a comparable amount of pita. ARNABEET ($8): We had to try the roasted cauliflower that Sheryl raved about, and it was a pretty dish and perfectly roasted, although I didn't find it as addictive as Sheryl. But who doesn't like roasted cauliflower?, SAMBOUSEK($8): Meat-filled baked dumplings, these were perfectly cooked, with nicely seasoned, finely ground stuffing (maybe a hint of cinnamon, I'm not sure). My favorite of the evening. They also serve pizza, hamburgers, etc, if you care. Highly recommended for a nice, causal Lebanese meal. I just got takeout here for the first time today. A Falafel appetizer and a chicken shawarma. The falafel were crunchy and tasty. There was about ten of them. The chicken shawarma really hit the spot. It is MASSIVE! There are some french fries in it which gave it a nice crunch. The chicken itself had a lot of flavor and the pita was definitely fresh. What a nice find. We are sitting here stuffed like a grape leaf. And these people know how to stuff grape leaves. We had the falafel, moussaka, Shawarma, and all the fixings. Everything fresh and delicious. They start with a bread basket and olive oil with sesame seeds for a dip. The crust of the bread is crunchy goodness. We enjoyed dinner, took home enough food for a small army and the check was less than some cheap lunch dates. We will be back! read more

I've eaten here once and will definitely eat here again. My friend and I met up here to eat outside and hang out. This place did not disappoint. We both ended up with the lamb kebabs and an order of kibbeh to start. The portions are very generous and everything was perfectly seasoned. Why 4 vs 5 stars? The service was really friendly but super slow. We were the only table and were having trouble getting anyone's attention. This is months ago, but I also wasn't impressed with their Covid procedures. Decided to go here with my dad and best friend after reservations for another place fell through but im so glad it did because this is now my favorite Mediterranean resteraunt to visit. It was a little out of our way distance wise but I hope it says something that Id be willing to make the trip again anytime. The food was amazing and the service was so kind and attentive. This restaurant is very clean and well priced, which was expected. That said, we were in complete shock over the quality of the food: I expected to find five Lebanese grandmothers preparing the food after we finished. The Hummus and Baba Ganoush appetizers are beyond compare, as is the Fattoush salad. The entrees are incredibly good: I had the cauliflower steak, which was as flavorful and fresh as any I've had, and my wife had the grilled chicken, which would rival any chicken served in the city of Boston. Top notch everything! Our server was the very best server I've experienced in years. She was attentive, helpful, well informed, perfect timing... all of it. The food: OMG! Every bite was delicious. We had, and I sampled some of all of it: Falafel entree, Moajanet sampler (which you can make substitutions on), and the picky kid had chicken kabob with delicious fries, instead of rice (they apparently have chicken strips, too-- not on the menu, but our server offered.) And baba ghannouj to start which came with FRESH , like right from the oven. Freshly, amazing, imported olive oil is placed at the table for your use. Every.single.bite was amazing!! (Did I say I tried a bite of everything?!) We ate in the patio which while on the sidewalk along WA street, was nice, and well spaced. and The food and service make up for anything lacking in ambiance. For whatever reason, I was CRAVING me some falafel this evening. Not until recently did I try to find a middle-eastern restaurant near my new neighborhood in Milton. After searching Yelp, I happened upon "Fairouz" in W Roxbury. And to boot, they are owned by a Lebanese family! Awesome for me since that is my mostest favorite among all Arab, Turkish, or Greek cuisine. I quickly decided to order takeout and picked the chicken kabob platter for my wife and I tried the Falafel platter. (I've found that falafel is the best dish to serve as a "tell" or a means of determining just how good or bad anyone's Arabic food really is). I elected to pick up my food since I wanted to check out Fairouz in person, and avoid the delivery fees. Note , it appears they used to deliver themselves, but now instead, they allow customers to choose from one of two delivery services. I'm glad I did go in: I was immediately impressed with the effort the owners must have made to help separate their space from adjoining businesses along the same commercial strip. Walking through an outdoor cafe-style seating area, aI was delighted to see how new. fresh and immaculately CLEAN the dining area was. Without being too kitschy, the main indoor seating area was tastefully decorated with nice furniture. Tables looked like they could allow a wide range and variety of group sizes...there were actually 2 fairly large parties comfortably seated ranging in size between 6 to 12 people each. Upon entering, I was quickly welcomed by a staff member who was very friendly, and was happy to inform me that the order I placed had just been completed. Cashing out via credit card was quick and easy, and the lovely host did share with me that they recently finished a total remodel after I commented on how nice and new everything appeared to be. After getting home I did warm up our food just a but only because my journey home hit several snags traveling through Hyde Park to get back to Milton. So how about the FOOD!??! The Chicken Kabob was very good, leaning on a more mild treatment of spices than I'm accustomed to; but it was quite tasty nonetheless. The rice pilaf and vegetables were also good, but there could have been some more vegetables on the side because both skewers were completely filled with generously large pieces of chicken. And the Falafel Test? I was trying my best to chew my food through the huge grin that involuntarily set upon my face as I tasted my first bite of what I thought was perfectly spiced and cooked falafel! Soooo good! Like the chicken, my platter came with a very generous portion of (I believe 6) large falafels and a bowl filled with fresh, mixed vegetables (peppers, parsley, pickled beets tomatoes lettuce). Falafel is best (and correctly) enjoyed when you use your bare hands to first, take a couple slices of the supplied pita bread. Then, without caring about the mess, mash all the platter's ingredients that can fit within the bread, then do your best to keep it all together while finishing with a pour or dip of the very delicious tahini-based sauce. I was happily savoring all the textures and flavors coming together with each bite. I was pleased with the sauce as it was not overwhelming with too strong of a tahini or garlic profile,...which happens all too often when folks make this sauce from scratch. Instead o found the sauce was a perfectly mild compliment to the very savory and crunchy crust of the falafel that also had a hint of sweet cinnamon (I'm guessing but pretty sure that is what I tasted) Anyway, if you've managed to read this entire review, you must be some sort of champion foodie, love Lebanese food as much as I do; OR, also like me, just accepted your dork factor some time ago.and are not ashamed when he decides to reveal himself! Of course, THAT'S AOK! The world needs more weirdo (yet quite stable) freaks like us! Don't suppress your inner Erkel brothers and sisters! I am looking forward to going back to Fairouz soon to sample the wide selection of their many other offerings. Oh, and almost forgot: the homemade baklava is awesome! Savory & sweet, with the right proportions of filo, chopped nut mix, and right amount of tasty honey. Many a baklava have been ruined by drowning in too much sweet syrup or honey. Not here sporto! Hidden local gem. I'm blessed with a selection of very good middle eastern restaurants in town and this one is up there. We ordered a bunch to go and that did not mess up the quality. The mezza platter was tasty but the hummus was the best on the plate. We could have just ordered that and been satisfied. The chicken dinner plate was a very good portion. We almost always order the Mix Grill which is a large platter of shrimp, steak, chicken, and lamb kabobs over rice pilaf with roasted veggies. It is amazing! We also love the garlic sauce and hummus! Absolutely amazing! I'm not terribly familiar with Middle Eastern cuisine, but the waitress was very helpful and made some great recommendations! I had the fattoush salad as a starter and the lamb kabobs. Every bite was better than the next! The fattoush was so fresh and all the veggies were crisp. This was our second visit and everything about it was as amazing, even better than the first! Fairouz is a family run restaurant. If Roy the chef is not too busy he will come to check on you. They specialize in home style Lebanese cuisine. We have not tried the 'All American' menu, that's really not the reason to come here. There are a few menu items you MUST try 1. The Arnabeet is a warm cauliflower dish served in tahini based dressing. To die for! 2. The Fattouch is a very special mixed greens salad, with lemon and genuine olive oil with a twist of flavour. Huge serving, easily for two. 3. Their home made Labneh is one of the best I've ever had. Not too sour, not too fat, I kept going back for more. 4. If you like hummus, you will definitely love theirs! As anything else they serve it with, the olive oil is a genuine cold press, with a strong flavour. A for the grill dishes 5. Chicken skewer. Genuine, no fat, full flavor intermixed with grilled veggies. Simple and wonderful, you can't go wrong with this one 6. Lamb skewer. Very clean, no fat, strong flavour but without the offensive odor that lamb sometimes has. This was somewhat less consistent , different pieces had different texture. Still highly recommended. Personally, I favor less the Kebab. It is certainly up to par, made in traditional style but that means it is somewhat chewy and a little more fatty. Have seen some older negative reviews here about service. As a Family style business I guess they are not optimized to handle many guests during large events, so call ahead to find out. This site already has plenty of pics, I added a video so you can see the layout. Bottom line, of you're looking for a middle eastern experience, Fairouz is clearly a hiddem gem well worth uncovering. Fresh, fresh, fresh. That's what comes to mind when I think about Fairouz. I've eaten here just twice, a few years apart. Both for lunch. But both times the meals were delicious. The food is made with care. You're not going to find any wilted lettuce or other veggies or less than appetizing meats and spices in the dishes. Some dishes we've tried are the Baba Ghannooj, Labneh (I wish this had a bit more flavor, but it's still quite good), Chicken Shawarma roll ups, and Tabouli. It almost pains me to reveal this hidden gem. The food is very delicious and very authentic. I've been there twice and received excellent service both times. I recommend sticking to the mezza plates (think middle eastern tapas), so you can get a variety of dishes. The pita is fluffy and perfect for dipping in the creamy hummus or flavorful babaganouj. While I'm a little sad to see it not being very crowded either time I've gone, I'm always happy to not have to wait for a table :-) read more
