I got a typical simple no thrills haircut and was charged $35. Before I had a chance to give her cash as a tip, I was given a device to choose what tip amount I wanted to give. Very convenient and close to my work, it's easy to get an appointment within an hour or two, or just walk in. All the barbers/stylists are competent, efficient and give great cuts. Prices are reasonable - about $20 for a cut. Fairview Barbers is super old-school and no-nonsense, with a straight-edge clean-up on the neck and vibro back massage at the end. The talk and banter used to border on politically incorrect, but it's mellowed out a ton over the years. It's a real friendly, family-type establishment now. Fairviews barber is a decent place with decent barbers. Larry is very chill, and all of the barbers are pretty skilled except for one guy, Bob. Bob is slightly mentally deficient, and it's apparent the way he talks and the way he moves. There's obviously nothing wrong with that, and I'm not trying to insult the guy, but it's not professional for a barber place to hire someone who can't follow simple instructions like "2 on the sides" or "just keep the same haircut, but everything an inch shorter". I've had my hair cut by Bob two times already, and everytime he butchered it. Fairviews barber is an ok place, but to be rated 4 stars, they need to fire Bob. read more

Cheap Haircut, Horrible Service, doesn't even deserve one star. You get what you pay for at this place and that's not much! If you enjoy mediocrity then please give this place your business. Their prices are so cheap, I don't understand how they manage to say in business. But... if you expect a quality haircut with attentiveness to details and to your needs, then definitely take your business elsewhere. Because the location is convenient for me, I've had my haircut here at least six times and each time was more disappointing than the last. Today was the last straw. I went in during my lunch hour and politely asked how long the wait was. The owner informed me that the wait would be about 25 minutes. I said "okay, great. Can you put my name down so I can grab some lunch really quick and come right back?" He then looked at his paper and said "I can put you down for 1:30." This was an hour and a half later, not 25 minutes, so I said... oh, well in that case, I can just go somewhere else." The guy then asked "Do you expect me to just not take care of one of these other people to accommodate you?" I proceed to say, "No... of course not, but you just said 25 minutes....." but he interrupted me rudely and actually told me to get out of his shop! I cannot believe how rude and argumentative he was to someone actually willing to give him business! I will never again be lured into that place again by its convenient location. In fact, I actually thank the guy for his rudeness, because it led me down the road to "The Cutting Edge" hair salon where for just over ten dollars more and only a five minute wait, I received a warm welcome, friendly service and the best haircut I've ever had in Santa Barbara. read more

Everything OK there, but not more. Got a decent and pretty fast cut for $17 + tip, but not exactly what I wanted before. Altogether, I would say better, cleaner and nicer than for example Campus Cuts. Guys working there are OK, but I really think they do their best at being barbers, way better than on giving haircuts (e.g., they don't offer washing your hair). I think it's OK for dudes, maybe not for ladies. :) Would probably go there again, but not really sure. read more

Seems like barber shops are becoming a thing of the past, especially in So. Cal. Damn you Supercuts for taking away good and dependable service and good conversation! Fairview is one of those places where you could catch up on "manly" gossip like sports and cars. Was out this way a few weeks back to pick up my son from summer camp. He needed a haircut for school which started the day after. I have been to many barber shops over the years; sometimes it can be really hard to find someone who gets you haircut just right. Fairview Barber has a diamond in the ruff cutting hair in their shop. Andre is some what a quiet kind of guy, but funny n chill at the same time. If your looking to get your head cut clean and tight, Andre can hook it up for sure. Straight edge razors have faded out over the years, which really sucks cause its the cleanest cut and line up you can get. Best barbershop I've ever been to. Old school privately owned barbershop, not a large chain that hires cookie cutter stylists out of beauty school. Reasonably priced quality haircuts, funny banter ("shoot the s***", easily offended people need not apply), hot shaving cream with a straight blade to clean up the edges, and best of all a hand massage at the end. These guys are all about building relationships with their customers, not just getting people in and out. They're also GREAT with kids. Ok, I am now truly convinced of two things: 1-In america, most barbers suck. 2-Yelp is totally unreliable and hides negative reviews (not recommended thing, as will happen to this one) if the businesses pay for it. I called and made an appointment. They asked if it matters who does the haircut, I said no. Well, I think they gave me to the most inexperienced barber in town or something, because she totally sucked. 1-Did not pay attention to what I described. 2-Just took a tiny little bit from sides and said done. 3-I told her I need to really shorten my hair (for a second time now), she then took a little bit more and left it like that. I've gotten great haircuts here. DO NOT LET Z TOUCH YOUR HAIR. I asked for a simple haircut and left with a half inch bald spot in the middle of my head. I've been coming here for a couple years but until that incompetent "barber" is gone I will not be returning. Although the girl that cut my hair did a great job and gave me what I wanted, she took a very long time, probably the longest haircut I've ever gotten. Approximately an hr and a half. The barber was nice, but they did a very sloppy and uneven job. The hair length towards the back of my head was over an inch longer than the hair towards the front, so styling it with something even as strong as clay was a nightmare. First and foremost let me address that I am not entirely satisfied with my experience here at Fairview Barbers.I came to this barber shop in need of a haircut. I talked to Lary and explained that I wanted a medium fade. He smiled with confidence and began to explain how a previous client wanted the same hairstyle. Thinking that this man knew what he was doing (since he told me that he cut hair for 30 years), he gave me a terrible bowl cut - literally. When showing me the final product of my hair (and realizing how horribly bad this haircut was), I asked if he can blend in the sides of my hair. He did so , yet my hair still remained the same. I have never felt so embarrassed and insecure for having a bad haircut as this. To make matters worse, the other barbers allowed him to let me leave with a haircut like that without aiding him or suggesting to him that my hair does not look good. I understand that this man has cut hair for 30 years, yet he should be very aware of the latest hairstyles and should perfect his barber skills before assuming that he knows exactly the hairstyle that I wanted.
