I chose the Carne Asada as my protein and went with the default fajita toppings for the rest. I made use of their homemade sauce station as well to complete the entree. After adding a Sugar Cane Mojito Lemonade, the grand total came to less than $10. This for one of the best sandwiches I have ever had in my life...and it could have fed two people! Best under the radar food truck! Don't let the name fool you! They serve wonderful homemade arepas, so much better than Arepa Zone. When I was walking past the food trucks in Chinatown, I saw an unfamiliar food truck the next block over and decided to check it out. I saw an overwhelmingly extensive menu of subs and arepas and was about to walk past it, when I saw a familiar face. The kind old owner was bringing Fajita Sub to DC! I used to get arepas all the time from the Fajita Sub Factory (they had a trailer) when I used to live in Silver Spring. Soo sooo good! The owner is so passionate and an amazing cook! She makes the arepas and even the seitan and all of the sauces. I was so glad that I saw her and got the Vegan Dream arepa with Venezulan cheese and plantains. It's only a $1 extra for unlimited toppings. I added the garlic crema sauce on top (the sauces are self-serve, you must try them!). For $10, I had one of the best lunches in DC. I'm getting gas, bullet-looking truck or the Dominican one? I went with my gut--fajita sub factory here I come. Their menu is Latin inspired and have a few Italian offerings. I went with my first choice, arepas Peru and holy smokes the flavors in that bad boy was aggressive. Chunks of tilapia ceviche, red onion, and huancaina sauce in a warm, toasty "corn bagel" and I just said my prayers early today because it was PERFECT. Great lunch and friendly service from this small food truck that's inside an Airstream trailer parked in a gas station up the hill from Silver Spring metro station. I opted for the fajita bowl which is served in a small styrofoam container. A base of rice and topped with beans and chicken. On the other half of the bowl, avocado salad, shredded cheese and queso. Oh, and two tortillas. Red chile and a hot green avocado chile and some shredded onions added afterwards from their "salsa bar." It was a very tasty and quite filling lunch. As for the gal taking orders and payment, she was outwardly friendly and smiling. Very pleasant to deal with. I might have had unreasonably high hopes for this little food truck... You operate out of a vintage Airstream: Sold! You are serving a new, at least to me, type of latin food called a corn "sub": Sold! You're located at a gas station: As some of my favorite MD institutions: Sold! You have 18 reviews with 4.5 stars: Sold! The problem was... I was a little nonplussed about the food I ordered: I decided to get the Corn sub: Carne Machada which is described as "Shredded beef with aji dulce". I've never had aji dulce, but I assumed that it was a sweet sauce as "Dulce" is Spanish for sweet or candy. They asked me if I wanted cheese on on the corn sub, and I asked for whatever cheese would normally come on it. They were like "whatever you'd like", and then I said, what type of cheese would you put on it? And they were like "queso fresco". So I was like... Ok, that's perfect. Well, the whole thing turned out to be way way salty and a bit greasy too. The "sub" ( I keep putting quotes around that as I don't think anyone would describe it as a sub) is more of a large circular sandwich. The outer corn griddled pancake thing they use instead of bread is decent, albeit does not have much flavor (except for a good deal of saltiness). The beef was cooked well, but it just seemed to be lacking depth. And the aji dulce... I don't know where that was. Still trying to figure it out, but for now it's a Cold Case. I'll most likely go back and try something else from the truck, maybe I just chose the wrong thing. I did also get some of their "homemade yogurt" which was really good and has fresh pineapple on top. It hadn't completely set up, but the flavor was good, and I've been on a yogurt kick so I was happy to see it. I was SO happy when I saw this food truck parked outside of Nordstrom Rack in Farragut Sq. I found out that it was actually their first day with their second truck! Ahhh!! I can't believe this place moved location to only 5 minute walking from my home! I absolutely love that they have veggie options so I always order the arepas with the veggie meat which is homemade seitan. They give you mango juice sometimes for samples and plenty of sauces to top of your meal. They are made to order so expect a little waiting and love that goes into preparing your meal. Been thinking of the right way to say this as I've had some good breakfasts there. Unfortunately after many chances, I'm giving up on the place. Went for a juice the other day due to not feeling well and an arepa would've been too heavy. After half the listed ingredients were unavailable we agreed on a concoction that was acceptable. As I was drinking it, I believed it had been watered down. When I asked, it was confirmed. Also on all previous occasions the tax was included in the listed price. The $3 arepa was always $3, the $1 drinks were $1 and so on. The price went up with no warning until after I'd gotten the drink. I ordered juice not a $3 cup of colored cheap water that went up by a quarter over night. Only constant is inconsistency in service, price and produce. Will not be returning read more

The off-the-menu ceviche-filled arepa I requested was the BEST CEVICHE experience of my life!!! Also the queso a mano arepa was heaven. For example; small, high-quality, low-volume shops are not able or required to give you change for the parking meter, let you use their restroom without making a purchase, or donate many minutes of their time and effort without you being willing or at least promising to make a purchase in the near future. Time is money, and these places need every cent, or at least every minute they have to spend on improvements and marketing. Remember that the people who work in these establishments rarely make a standard living wage (especially in DC), and they often work there because they truly believe in the benefit and quality of what they offer. So if you can't wait 5 or even 10 minutes for service because the only person working just took 4 orders right before you walked in, then please don't insult the establishment or your own public image by leaving in a frustrated hurry. It was a happy day when I discovered this great little food truck. I was driving east on University Boulevard when my eyes landed on this Airstream trailer food truck at a gas station. Instantly, my brain made the executive decision to stop for lunch. And when I did, life just kept getting better with discovery after discovery. Discovery #1 Airstream trailer food truck, no more needs to be said! #2: they offer arepas, not just the more typical pupusas, tacos, etc. you often find in Silver Spring. #3: They're extremely vegetarian friendly and even have homemade seitan, "veggie meat." #4: They have an awesome salsa bar with four different freshly made, delicious, interesting salsas. #5 everything is delicious. The owner is very outgoing and helpful. She mentioned she is vegetarian herself but she also makes chicken chorizo, ceviche, beef, etc. She also makes her own crema and some juices and lemonade. (What???????) I ordered an arepa with black beans and the veggie meat and it must have weighed almost a pound. A very satisfying and delicious meal indeed. I am not 100% vegetarian but my partner is 95% vegan, so I dragged him back to the food truck the next weekend. He ordered the veggie arepa and I had the veggie meat fajita bowl. We brought our food home, and as I always do when we get takeout, I got out a bunch of sauces and slaws,.....and this is pretty much unprecedented, but we didn't use any of them, because the food was so tasty the way it was. The only thing we added was a little fresh jalapeno from our garden. This is my second time getting lunch at this hidden gem I stumbled on while looking to catch a quick lunch. I didn't take pictures of what I got so you'll really just have to take my word when I say the arepas are AMAZING. The first time I went I got la Catira, its a chicken based arepa. I topped it off with their avacado and garlic sauce from the salsa bar- I couldn't believe all that flavor could come from a food truck. I added a side guacamole- some of the freshest I've ever tasted. My boyfriend got the Pabellon. They sold him when he read that it had plantains in it. It was also so flavorful. We tried their carrot, beet, and orange juice- super refreshing- also reminded me that I have a place to get a clean juice when I'm on a diet binge! This is a fairly new food truck in Silver Spring. I was going in with hopes for a local chipotle alternative. Preparation took about 15 minutes and they were not busy. They also did not have their salsas made yet and they told us they were running late. The portion is small, I am no chef and I could very easily make something 10x better. The shredded chicken had plenty of gristle and even plenty of bone.. not sure how this happens? It is not hard to cut chicken. I got the seitan salad, which came with a heft portion of marinated seitan with eggplant on top of a salad with fresh avocado, rice and beans. The salsas are amazing. Next time I'm getting the arepas or the tostones.
