Like would you like to listen to Bad Bunny while your eating paella? I had their lunch menu special pick 3 for $24 which I thought was reasonable. The flavors were ok and I like how the potato's were thinly sliced but it would have been more enjoyed if it was served hot. The croquettes which are my favorite tapas and I was looking forward to devouring it ... was mid. It lacked flavor and heavily breaded and seemed that it was deep fried in old oil because the coating of my croquettes were almost dark brown. I barely tasted any chicken. Jaleo/Spanish Diner have better croquettes. The steak.... was meh although I asked for medium rare.. it wasn't served hot. And could use more flavor. Service was impeccable which why I give it 3.5 stars . Our dinner last night at Sabores was one of the best meals we have had in a long long time. Sabores means flavors in English, and I can say to you that the flavors of every dish were great! Service was absolutely fabulous. The best dish of the night was the Gambas Al Ajillo (garlic shrimp). The shrimp arrived in a bowl atop a most exquisite chili oil/sauce. The shrimp came with two large slices of a perfect rustic bread. The chili sauce was perfect for dipping the bread. We really liked how the manager/owner came over and chatted with us for a bit and described how the chili oil was prepared. When we expressed our pleasure he brought us out more bread. Yes!! If you like gazbacho, you'll love Sabores's version of this chilled soup. Topped with bits of crispy Serrano ham and crumbled hard-boiled egg, this dish was excellent. Also, it was served in a hefty quantity. The arepitas were excellent as well. I probably didn't experience the full joy of this dish because I requested that they not include the meat, which can be either shredded beef or chicken. I asked them to hold the meat because they were honest and told me their meats included my old friend cilantro. The Espinacas de Catalina (spinach) was wonderful. The fresh cooked spinach was perfect and came with little raisins and generous bits of apple and walnut. Perhaps this dish could have stood a little less oil. Still, I'll definitely order again. The skirt steak churrasco was perfect, cooked and seasoned just right. The chimichurri sauce that came with the churrasco was tasty. Since we were on a roll with the great dishes, I then ordered the Dátiles con Tocino (bacon-wrapped dates). These little wonders had a pleasant slightly smoky flavor, and perhaps a bit different than bacon-wrapped dates you've had, these were made with a light batter and were fried. I walked in, from the street where construction was ongoing, and it was still super busy inside. From the bar to the dining area. Staff was friendly and attentive. Good courses came out at a nice soles to prevent getting too full too fast. Their Red sangria was nice, light and tasty. Ended up with the Ceviche Camarones. A little fire with a creamy finish with the side of plantains. Nice. Tapas are delightful. Different options for different tastes. They have a delicious looking dessert menu too. I didn't partake this time because I have to get up early for work tomorrow but... I definitely plan to come back for coffee and dessert!!! The bar is quite lively, so if you want a more quiet area, choose the dining area. They keep the place clean while you are dining. When we went for a Friday night dinner it was packed, and reviews are stellar, so other people obviously like this place. But as a tapas lover this just didn't hit for me. It was fine, for sure, and if you live right near by I can see this being a go-to, but nothing I would go out of my way for versus other tapas places in DC or elsewhere in the DMV. First, the ambiance felt a little sterile and out of the box, when I typically expect tapas restaurants to be sophisticated and sexy. It was super brightly lit, the furniture felt a little like office furniture, and the wall decor was very low-effort and minimal. Seating layout was awkward and my fiance switched seats because people walking by him were knocking into him, so we had to sit next to each other instead of across. This would all be fine if this were a restaurant with a more casual, neighborhood spot style menu and affordable pricing, but it cost pretty much on par with fancier tapas restaurants we frequent in DC once you factor in portion size. Which brings us to portion size. At first we thought prices were pretty reasonable but then we got our food and portions were super tiny. The $10 stuffed pepper tapa had 3 small peppers, each maybe 2 or 2 bites. So like $1 a bite. The patatas bravas were a little better portioned but nothing amazing. Our paella portion was disappointingly small. We ordered aroz negro (squid ink paella with calamari) that was only available in March. It was $42 and meant to serve 2 people. This was like an individual sized paella for $42. Now, the flavor of the paella and the peppers was excellent. Beautifully cooked. The patatas bravas were fine, though I have had better. So no complaints about food quality. But the portions were very, very skimpy for the price, imo. Food presentation was also pretty meh but this is not especially important. To be fair, alcohol was well priced. I had a nice temperanillo for $12 (there was also one on the menu for $9) and my fiance's beer was $7. Cocktails were around $13. So if you are more about the drinks than the food then this is a totally different calculation for you. But we are about the food. And after one drink each, a shared paella and two small tapas, this cost us more than $100 for 2 people. I was still hungry when we left and went home and made myself a big thing of goat cheese and crackers. Meanwhile, that is a price point comparable to Boqueria in Dupont Circle, Bodega in Georgetown, and Jaleo in Chinatown. All of these occupy much more expensive real estate and offer, in my opinion, better portions, a larger menu selection (with more vegetarian options) and much sexier ambiance with excellent food, so it is really hard for me to understand why Sabores would cost the same as they do. If it were a third less expensive, then they would be on to something - ie an affordable, more casual, neighborhood-style alternative to pricey DC tapas restaurants. But not at the portions and price points they are charging. Also worth noting that some standard vegetarian tapas were just not available. Pan con tomate was on the online menu but not the menu in the restaurant, nor anything like queso de cabra, no artichoke dishes, etc. I was able to choose things I liked as a pescatarian but would have felt very limited if I were strictly vegetarian. Service was fine though I did feel like our server was pushing drinks and deserts a little harder than I would have liked. Getting seated was a little more hectic than I would have liked, especially as there was nowhere for us to sit and wait, but to be fair it was busy and we didn't have a reservation. Overall I just don't know why I would come here over another tapas restaurant in the DMV unless I was right in the immediate area already, and even then I would probably consider more affordable, even more casual restaurants nearby, like Sophia's Pupuseria. Something about the place just felt...unfinished. Like they had stopped 20% short of what they could have been doing, with the menu, the atmosphere...the PORTIONS. read more

For $33 bottomless, getting to choose from a variety of normal brunch brunch items so you aren't just stuck for different versions of egg Benedict. we tried almost chicken croquettes were very good, black beans with beef was exceptional and slightly smoky, whole chicken dishes were very well done, the chicken was not dry and the plantains or were very good. The highlights were the arapas, in three different versions, all of which are very good. The side zucchini was also crispy and fresh. Staff were great about making certain dishes, celiac, friendly, a bunch of different gluten-free items. The waffles and pancakes were really the only typical brunch food and were fine, but all of the other items on the menu were fantastic. Once we put in our first order, it took a little while for food to come out, but once it did, they were constantly bringing dishes for our table. Would recommend ordering a bunch of different items and a little bit of everything! They have one dollar mimosas and five dollar bloody Mary for those who wanted a beverage with brunch. My friends and I had dinner at this restaurant and decided to order some food to go for our kids. I ordered a sandwich for my son, and my friend wanted one too for hers. When I asked to add a second sandwich, the server told me they only had enough meat for one more, so my friend chose a different dish instead. My friend paid for the order without double-checking the details. As we were leaving, I looked inside the bag and noticed there were two sandwiches plus the other dish my friend ordered. I asked the server why they told us they only had enough meat for one sandwich, yet still gave us and charged for two. He checked with the owner and came back saying the owner told him there was nothing they could do since the order had already been charged, and that they would "do better next time." No apology, no effort to make things right -- nothing. To make things worse, the food wasn't great. The arepas were dry, the meat was undercooked, and the sandwiches barely had any filling. It honestly looked like they split the meat between two sandwiches just to charge extra. Very disappointing service and poor customer experience. The issue wasn't about the money -- it was about how they handled their mistake. If you're looking for a good tapas spot, go to Barcelona in Reston instead. Avoid Sabores. read more

The food was okay, but not memorable to me. I liked the patatas bravas and the arepitas. I didn't get any cocktails but my friend did and she said they were okay too. I got their tamarind mocktail and it was also fine. Some finesse and attention to detail could be beneficial for their tapas. The tortilla came with a very, very strong/bitter aioli that covered most of it and overpowered the tortilla flavor. Then we got a pitcher of white sangria, really good. Smelled like cream soda and tasted great. We got a handful of food: lobster bisque (good but definitely enough to share), pichana (couldn't try but the gf said it was good); chicken arepitas (same as one before); patatas bravas (very good); salmon (not bad, really just a filet); shrimp (ORDER THIS - BOMB); and chicken croquettas (same as other meat). In addition, as a main dish I ordered "Lomo Salteado " which is stir fried filet mignon with tomatoes, onions and fried potatoes served with rice cooked to perfection. We had five people there, and we all ordered separate dishes and we all sampled everything that came out. Some real misses - the gazpacho needed more seasoning. WOW. Where to start?! This restaurant was absolutely fabulous. The food, service and ambience were absolutely five stars in every respect. My girl friend and I went here for a catch-up lunch date. She has been here several times before, and raved about the food - so the bar was set high from jump, and Sabores did not disappoint. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we were seated immediately. We were provided iced waters along with the lunch specials menu and regular menu. They were running a special where, if everyone at the table participated, you would each get the option of four tapas courses plus dessert for a whopping $25. It seemed like a great deal - and it was! My friend and I selected different meal options to share, so I was able to sample several different dishes, and let me say...I was full by the second course! But, that didn't stop me from finishing the meal. Between the two of us, we ordered the fried datiles con tocino, arepitas, salmon a la plancha, pintxo moruno, la maceta de chocolate and tarta de queso maracuya. We actually had to cut ourselves off with dessert because we were too full, but let me say...it was so challenging because the food was delicious. All in all, a must see/must eat. Sabores' menu is unique as it features Spanish dishes and other Latin American dishes, such as Peruvian, and specials based on different holidays, so it's every changing! The day we visited, they were celebrating Bolivian Independence Day. The service was really great. The servers come by often, and brought out new plates once we changed courses. Since they were tapas, it wasn't technically a new course, but we ordered another round of food. My party and I ordered a ton of food!! Some of my favorites were the: Patatas bravas - the sauce they had is sooo good. Salmon a la Plancha - the fried rice with this SLAPS. also the salmon is great :D Patacones - these were so fun to eat.
