Every bite was packed with flavor, and the toppings struck the perfect balance of savory, creamy, tangy, and crunchy. The hot dog itself was juicy, and the fresh ingredients made it feel like so much more than your average street food. If you've never had a Venezuelan style hot dog before, this is a great place to try one. The atmosphere at La Cosecha makes it all perfect spot to grab a unique meal while exploring the market. The arepa I got delivered on flavor, and I'm pleased to note that it was vegan, but between the beans, avocado, and plantain, was moist and filling. There's nothing like grilled corn. Recently visited to watch Mexico vs. Ecuador. This was my first visit to La Cosecha and I loved the energy from the sidewalk to the upstairs seating. At Mosaico there was a well-deserved wait and I ordered a pelua arepa and sampled the pabellón empanada that my friend ordered. Each of them were delicious and the meat was moist. I was hoping for a more defined flavor or seasoning but wouldn't mind ordering again on a slower night. It was a decent portion but I'd prefer if the cheese was melted. Would consider coming back, but I think I'd rather spend the money on two tacos. This was my first time coming here and I got the pabellon empanada, perro colombiana, and passion fruit juice. The hotdog was delicious! I love all of the different toppings and sauce that is unique compared to a traditional hotdog. The empanada was also very flavorful and crisped to perfection. Eep! I always have a great time at Arepa Zone. I was excited to finally try a meat-filled arepa, so we got the shredded chicken and cheese one with added plantains. We also ordered a shredded beef empanada, and of course, I can never come here without getting tequeños. That sauce is everything. I always take home whatever I do not finish. Good food and friendly staff! I had a camarones empanada (shrimp). It was fried perfectly! I also had a pollo mechado arepa (chicken). The shell has a great crunch and the chicken was flavorful. The black beans were alright. But, the star of the meal was the mandocas fritas!! They are plantains mixed with corn dough and almost like a sweet hush puppy. Tostones Trio I selected 3 different meats (pork, chicken, beef). The pork was a bit bland and lacked flavor. The chicken was also bland in flavor, tasted like they watered it down to make it stretch. The beef was fantastic. How they missed the mark with the others and the beef was flavorful, tender and juicy is beyond me. I loved that the tostones were made to order. Had I gotten all beef it would've gotten a higher rating. I also would've appreciated if the beef was simmering in a pot all day low cooking. Instead they pulled a baggie of pre-portioned meat from the fridge and reheated it. Still good, just doesn't hit my foodie standard to feed my soul status. Pabellón Empanada Again the delicious beef, was well seasoned and balanced well with the sweet plantain and black beans. Nice thick amount of cheese. Fried okay, with only a couple of over cooked longer spots. The flavors in this made it the star of the meal. If this is reheated then they do a better job ensuring it feels like made to order. That garlic cilantro sauce that comes with it, is FIRE! Again the consistency was off. I went back an hour later and got 2 more and they were not as good. The plantain, beef, and bean ratio was off. It also was more garlicky in flavor and the beef was tough this time. I also took a star off because they aren't consistent. I had the tostones trio yesterday and it was knock your socks off good. With the mashed plantain being crispy outside with a moist middle and had a perfect amount of salt to enhance it. Today the mashed plantain was very dry and flavorless. I experienced the worst customer service ever. I placed my order of two cheese empanadas, a side of fries and a drink. I stood and waited for my order for over 30 minutes, causing me to miss most of the World Cup game. I noticed everyone was getting their orders except me, and people who arrived after me were getting their orders before me. When I was the last person standing, I asked when my order would be ready. The employees took my receipt and said they didn't know what my order was, and then they changed their story and said someone else must've took it some time ago, and they no longer had any empanadas left. At that point, I was very irritated. I ended up raising my voice at them and demanded a refund. They acted like they didn't want to give it to me, and they still owe me $6 for the fries I also didn't receive. They did not apologize to me for the inconvenience they caused or anything. Camarones Empanada, Cazon Empanada, & pabellon Empanada, which were about $6. These are Venezuelan empanadas, which these are bigger than the Argentinian empanadas. I was not a fan of the pabellon empanadas because it was rehash beans. The Cazon texture is like the texture of a tamales. My favorite was the Camerones empanada. My favorite place to visit in La Cosecha! I've really enjoyed their Empanadas and HOTDOGS!!!! I've had their arepas once, and they were decent. Everything is very affordable and big portions. Not the quickest service so only stop by when you have time. Can't go wrong with any empanada, but don't really recommend the cazón (shark) since it was so fishy. The highlight of this place is actually the Perro Calientes (hotdogs). I think this is the best hotdog I've ever had in my life.... the beef frank is so juicy and the brioche bun so fluffy. I want the little potato sticks on its own!!!!! The garlic-cilantro sauce is *chefs kiss* The Caraqueño and Colombiano are pretty similar; different cheeses and Colombiano has more toppings like bacon and pineapple sauce so it's a little sweeter. read more

Good Arepas! The wait was a little long but it was worth the wait and was filling for my boyfriend and I.

I've now been here once in person and tried to order from here twice online. Each time, the food has been DELICIOUS, but they were very slow. First let's talk about the excellent food here. I love that everything (or almost everything) here is gluten free. Their arepas are always really good and that's my standard order. I like the shredded chicken ("catira") and their pabellon arepas the most, but sometimes a simpler one with tomato and "queso de mano" all you need for a mighty hunger. The gluten-free empanadas are also awesome but they're deep-fried so watch out if you're waistline-conscious - they're so good you can't eat just one. I haven't tried their perritos (hot dogs) but they do look pretty tasty. The slow turnaround on food was a problem every time I came or ordered from here and that's unfortunate because we are huge fans of Mosaico's sister (or is it parent?) restaurant Arepa Zone, where in-person or delivery orders are done lightning fast. Since then, if I've wanted Venezuelan food delivery, I've made it a point to order from Arepa Zone and not Mosaico. I've been to the La Cosecha food market a couple times since my last visit to Mosaico but haven't eaten here. read more

Mosaico is situated in the back of the amazing latin american market La Cosecha. We ordered the chicken empanada which was different than any other empanada I have ever tried! The empanada had a fried corn-based dough and the filling was perfectly seasoned. We also got the Vegana Arepa which was filled with black beans, plantains and avocado. The fridges at the stand were filled with frozen ArepaZone products. I can't wait to come back to try more!! The food came within 15 minutes after I ordered. First time trying Arepas- a popular Venezuelan and Colombian dish. I tried their Arepa Vegana that consisted of black beans, sweet plantains, and avocado. Their sweet plantains tasted great and of course, the avocado was good. The black beans were too salty for my liking, bland, and were too much. The second I got my arepa it was already soggy and fell apart. Overall, I was disappointed with the flavor. The green sauce they gave tasted good and I wish they provided more. Venezuelans love the Arepa Zone. They've done a favor to DC by providing a market for Venezuelan products. Missing some grocery staples like every variety of Harina P.A.N.? Or their edible hazelnut "toothpaste" nucita? Or the PUIG branded cookies (Katy, etc)? What about the Venezuelan cheeses and pastries like the golfeados - yup they stock these too. The mini market has proved to be a life saver for many and assuaged the nostalgia for many more. I like this place because I ordered the typical Venezuelan gluten-free (corn-based) empanadas, and this one with the pabellón filling (shredded beef, cheese, sweet plantains, black beans). I have to comment that the empanada corn flour is done well there - they taste simply amazing and the way it should be. One thing that might be different? The size. Traditional Venezuelan empanadas, at least what I'm familiar with in margariteña style, are HUGE - like bigger-than-the-hand HUGE! And these at Mosaico are rather a bit small (still bigger than the traditionally teeny Colombian empanadas though, I'll say)- and I think it's tough for them to actually fit all the pabellón filling in it. So at first few bite, I'm thinking they had made it wrong since I'm just tasting the shredded beef. A few bites more, I taste the other stuff that makes it a pabellón. So this is a bit of a setback - it should be obviously a pabellón at least with the first two bites - and to remedy this, they should make the empanadas bigger. That's my two cents for this business, and hopefully they'll take it. Because the flavors are on point though, and they make these Venezuelan empanadas to order (from scratch, seriously, I haven't seen that done in a long while), I can see myself coming back. read more
