I love Falafel but most times it is a chore finding a place that makes them the right way. Sometimes they are too dry, sometimes too crunchy etc. At Falafel Boy I was pretty happy with my meal. I just got a Falafel wrap and the flavors and textures were good. The only issue I had was with the wrap itself. It was very tough and took me out of the experience. I would be willing to give it another shot though, given how good everything else was. I also ordered the halloumi which was a little too charred and honestly not salty enough. Ordered via door dash last night. The order was ready SUPER fast and delivered quickly as well. Somehow the food was cold on arrival but we were able to reheat some items. I am grateful that Falafel boy included hot sauce in my bag even though I forgot to request it. Both items we ordered were good, bf had the chicken shawarma plate which came with chicken, pita, salad, rice and hummus. Bf prefers halal and enjoyed his meal. I got the lamb and beef bowl with all salad (no rice, you could get either or half and half) which tasted pretty good. There was a sweet dressing in there that I would have preferred on the side but the meat was cooked and seasoned well and I liked that there was hummus in the bowl. Pricing was also affordable and not outrageous. I'd definitely order a bowl from here again. I especially appreciate the option to order all salad without having to make a special request, makes things easier. I'm curious about the Oreo baklava, might need to try that too! read more

Best falafel wraps I have had in the East bay! Am glad and thankful that they are operating during covid. We consistently order the falafel wrap and the vegan cauliflower bowl. Wraps are crispy and well wrapped making it easy to consume without a mess :). Every order we placed has been consistently fresh, and absolutely delicious! The serving size is generous, service is prompt, with safety protocols strictly followed. They have outdoor seating as well on the sidewalk, there's some foot traffic during lunch hours (people picking up et al) so may not be ideal for everyone during those times. But if you end up going there outside of high traffic hours, you can comfortably enjoy their outdoor seating. Discovered this gem recently and loved it so much I decided to have them cater my baby shower. Maria was very personable and provided excellent service with a smile. We had the falafel wrap, falafel plate, chicken shawarma wrap, chicken shawarma plate, lamb wrap, and lamb plate. The wraps all come with a salad and hot sauce. COVID REVIEW: I ordered take out from here the other day and the food was quite tasty. They have several tables outside with a heater in the middle if you want to eat there. I ordered a chicken shawarma plate and my wife had a lamb/beef bowl with salad. Both were made pretty quick, and we were given our fresh hot food within 5-6 mins. They also had some really good looking baklava and brownies at the register but I resisted the urge. Their food is halal, which is great for those with dietary restrictions. The Appetizer Vegan Platter came with five falafels, five dolmas, fried cauliflower, hummus, babaganouge, and triangles of grilled pita. The plates here were served with turmeric rice, hummus, cabbage slaw, and pita, along with a choice of protein. I tried the shish tawook (chicken kebab) and lamb kebab, but my favorite meat was the lamb and beef shawarma, which came with generous slices of juicy meat topped with onions and an herbed tahini sauce. Everything here also went nicely with the red chili sauce that came on the side, which added a nice spicy flavor to every bite! Although the wrap was still tasty, it wasn't up to par with other chicken shawarma wraps I've had. The pickles and hot sauce were a nice addition though. I tried Falafel Boy again and ordered the chicken shawarma plate "again". This time, I got it (yay!), but forgot to take a photo. The plate wasn't bad, but the hummus was not good. I was excited about the hummus and even ordered extra pita for it, but couldn't finish it. The rice and sauce they used on the chicken was good. The cabbage salad was mediocre. Not complicated but I couldn't see how to order it online. The order was taken and passed along and clearly I wasn't the only one who DID NOT check the order because when I got home I found that I had ALL RICE and NO SALAD, exactly the opposite of what I wanted. (SIGH) As for the food, it was mostly edible but average at best. Some things were remarkably over or under seasoned. Again, not inedible but I wasn't going to waste my time choking it down. - Lamb & Beef Shawarma: Ok, but chopped small so it dried out easily on the grill - Hummus: Ok - Falafel: Ok but dryish - Rice: Ok - Salad: Wish I could tell you - Haloumi: WAY TOO SALTY (and I'm a salt FIEND :-( - Garlic Spread: Flavorless white paste (so disappointing because I paid $1 extra for it and garlic spread is usually GLORIOUS... but not this time) I ended up adding some Greek yogurt and salt as needed. I survived. I accept this adventure for what it was; a learning lesson. I could have gotten over the salad/rice mixup but the mediocre food is not worth a second experiment. I've been here a few times for takeout lunch but I'm slowly losing my interest here. I usually order the same kinds of meals, and this time I ordered the lamb and beef shawerma. I ordered online and requested pick up for noon. I arrived at noon and the bag - clearly labeled and complete with meal, utensils and napkins - was waiting on the pickup table. I work a couple blocks away so the food should still be warm by the time I get back to my office. It wasn't. In fact, it was pretty cool. This gets me to think the food was ready well before noon and sat out for a bit. Not quite what I expected. The seasoned rice was lining the container and the meat was on top. Honestly I couldn't tell which meat was beef or lamb. They both looked identical, had similar textures and tasted the same. On top of that, the food was not warm anymore and the meat became cold and very dry. I was disappointed and unimpressed with this visit obviously. Almost $20 for a cold, dry lunch. Probably won't come back for a while - it seems like things are going downhill slowly. read more

The rice was delicious and it was a good amount of food. They filled the bowl to the brim. The falafels though were not the best: dry and crunchy and dark in color. So far, it's the best falafel wrap I've had in downtown Oakland. The wrap had a good tahini sauce, a nice spicy dip on the side and delicious pickled turnips included in the wrap. After having a falafel salad twice in a row last week, I had to give more props to one of my favorite work Mediterranean spots with the awesome owner Joe and his amazing staff. I recently started exploring more plant-based options and have been enjoying the super fresh falafel salads and vegan bowls, which has a variety of mixed veggies (sautéed red and green bell peppers, cauliflower, tomatoes over rice). They make some of the best falafels- you can tell from the nice green texture from all of the fresh herbs that are incorporated in the chickpea mixture. The salad has greens, tomatoes, cucumbers mixed with some delicious tahini, herb and pomegranate dressing. Plus, they sell some grab and go freshly made hummus, babaganoush, dolmas, labne, baklava, and brownies. So good! Cute name, but pretty average food in my opinion. I ordered the beef & lamb wrap, and did not enjoy it as much as I hoped. The beef and lamb are chopped up into tiny bits and were sort of dry. The wrap itself was thin, where I prefer a fluffy sort of pita bread. The main thing that was missing for me was some sort of creamy yogurt sauce or hummus to cool it down, because the red chili sauce and pickled veggies were super aggressive on the palette. I felt like I was being attacked in the mouth. My family all ordered the bowls and were very pleased with their meals, so maybe I would try the bowl next time. read more

I will say that the online ordering function on their website was glitchy, so it took me a while to order (and tried it from multiple phones to see if it was just my phone, but it wasn't). The kefta and falafel were a bit dry, but still yummy flavor. I loved the texture of the sautéed eggplant and roasted cauliflower, both were so tender! That baklava was decadent too. My wife and I had a chance to try out Falafel Boy for the first time this evening and between the two of us, we shared the beef and lamb platter and also an order of baked halloumi over rice. Of the two dishes, the former was definitely a lot better. I thoroughly enjoyed the grilled meats where: perfectly seasoned, and you could definitely taste the char. The green sauce on top was a nice touch, and I liked the humus in the dish you could smear over everything. The baked halloumi dish unfortunately isn't something I'd order again. The only other place I've had baked halloumi before was in San Francisco at a place called Beit Rima, and the texture, cook, and flavor of the halloumi is on a different level. The one thing I did like from the dish though was the grilled eggplant. I'd definitely stop by again for the beef and lamb platter. read more

I had the kabob plate - chicken - Lamb- Sirloin steak over rice, the meats were cooked and tender I really liked the chicken kabob. Also tried the chicken wrap with curly fries cant go wrong with that. The fries are not like other places its different they are crispy n great tasting.
