They were Korean I think and there definitely is some Korean influences in the menu. In any case the wife offered me a bunch of falafel to go because it was closing time and she'd have to throw them out. A very sweet gesture. How many times do you get free food at a store? Looks like they are on vacation the next 2 weeks based on a sign on the door so I won't be going back because I would. I think accurately this place is a 4.5. First time here at Falafel King despite being a student for a while now. There's a couple tables outside and a few bar and table seats inside - overall small though. The prices are really affordable and food is made very quick. It's a small mom and pop local restaurant but definitely very popular with students. I got a shawarma platter and stuffed grape leaves and edamame for my 2 sides. The shawarma tasted really good and came with an orange sauce(?) not sure what it was though. There was a bed of lettuce, cucumber, and a few other veggies. The stuffed grape leaves was cold and had a grainy hard texture inside. I wasn't a huge fan, maybe because the only other stuffed grape leaves were made from my friends parents with their family recipe. The edamame tasted kinda old, very flimsy outer layer. A strong 4 for this Mediterranean dive just off the Emory campus. Expect a line, it's a small joint with few interior seats and a few outdoor tables. It's 95% takeout which works perfectly for its base. I went twice on consecutive days with friends. It was overrun by students who adore them. Fast service at a fair price and it helps to have a delicious product which I can vouch for. I had the shawarma both times with their only desert baklava. I also added dumplings. The counter service is fast! So be ready to order and step aside once complete. It's kinda like a Seinfeld episode of the Soup Nazi if you've seen. Any regulars will get it. The whole operation appears to be family run by Asians. The food was delicious! Most rave about their in-house sauce which is on the hot side in my opinion. Unfortunately no option for tzatziki sauce which I would have preferred. Wow on the dumplings. The baklava.is not in house but respectable and I enjoyed. Do not miss this college dive. I stood there for quite sometime and others received before me. I don't know the challenge of falafel vs shaving meat off a stick. But this street food took a long time. Food: ordered the falafel plate. It's served on a bed of lettuce, tomato and cucumbers. It comes with two sides, and a pita bread. I chose the dumpling (supposedly no meat) and broccoli and beans. Now they stressed the dumpling had no meat. There was definitely meat in there, and I feel like it was pork. Tsk tsk. And here's the kicker the falafel didn't come w tzatziki sauce. I feel like that's a major offense. Taste: falafels were freakin awesome. Crunchy and flavorful. Best I've had in Atlanta. This place has been here about 16 years and I drive by a lot but have never stopped. I tried a few times but parking can be tight as the lot is shared with other business. It is a small place and a 2 person operation. I ordered the falafel plate. The plate is about $4 more than just the pita with filling. That was a mistake! The plate includes two sides. I chose hummus and seaweed salad. They put it inside a styrofoam container and then inside a plastic bag so I cant see it and they are busy and often have a line of Emory folks so I take it and sit inside and eat it there. When I open it there is no seaweed salad, they put 2 very small Greek dolmades which tasted canned. The hummus was the worst ever in my life. No spice, no nothing. It seemed to be just blended chick peas with nothing else in them. No salt, spices, garlic, paprika, ZILCH. Like baby food! Yes I could have gone over and told them but they have a line of folks on their lunch hour and I hate to interrupt a line trying to eat and hold up everyone else. The meat was rather dry and cut with an electric knife in small pieces. It looks like a lot more than it is as they place lettuce in the container first and then put the meat where it covers the lettuce. The couple who run the place are NOT middle eastern. I generally turn around whenever I see someone selling ethnic food who isnt that ethnicity. I paid the price for not sticking to this rule. The only decent food item was the pita bread they use. It was different than any I have seen. It was soft like bread, not the usual pita at all. It wasnt dry and was actually good. It was clearly purchased- not made there. read more

The falafel sandwich is only $5.35 (that's with tax, it's listed as $4.99) and it's so worth it. Personally as a small asian girl it suffices but if you have a large appetite they serve an array of sides like dumplings, miso soup, and others you can order. You can add shawarma to the falafel pita pocket as well for a small additional price to get that meat protein. The spicy sauce that goes with it is amazing. The couple that runs the place is very efficient and knows what they're doing. This isn't a good place to have a big party or a long sit down due to lack of space, so have somewhere in mind to bring your lunch elsewhere to eat. Note: try going during their off-hours if you don't want to wait because it gets fairly crowded during lunch time and the restaurant is pretty small. The menu is focused on Mediterranean falafels and shawarma. Though there is the interesting ramen, udon, and other Asian cuisine offerings to choose from. I went with the ramen and falafel Sanga (ignore my Australian slang). The ramen is 10/10 given the price of the dish and the quantity. I think for ramen it is a more than solid ramen offering and the spicy flavor adds a bit of a kick that leaves you wanting more. I think to compare this to a full service ramen shop would be remiss, but for a hot spicy soup to warm your soul it is perfect. Then the falafel sandwich. Oh the crunchy perfect falafel that inspired the name with moist veggies and sauce. It truly is the king. They had an orange mayo/siracha? I have been eating falafels since childhood. It was just apart of my upbringing. This place...Literally theee worst falafel I've had in life. Dry, no flavor at all. The falafel balls were even bland with no flavor. The tahini sauce was so watered down it also had no flavor. Only toppings were lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and that flavorless watery tahini.
