Looking for a cute, classy Turkish restaurant in the heart of Virginia Highlands. This is your…read morespot! I went for happy hour which I highly recommend. It's from 3-6pm Monday through Thursday (I believe). They have $6-8 cocktails and a variety of food in the $5-10 range. The food was all fantastic, as was our waiter. He constantly checked on us, kept the complimentary bread supplied, and gave great recs for both food and cocktails. I love a waiter who explains the menu so you know what you're getting into beforehand. As we were leaving, it was torrentially down-pouring and the host was so kind to let me borrow his umbrella to get to my car. It's rare to find this level of hospitality these days and it made my already great experience here even better.

Spots I would rather recommend for a nice night out are Delbar, Rumi's, and Yalda. My friends and I tried the Muhammara Dip, the Feta Cheese Rolls (reminiscent of spanakopita but no spinach and in roll form), the Truva Dumplings, and the Iskender Kebab. The Iskender Kebab and the Muhammara were the best of the bunch, but overall I think I was expecting more punch from the spices and greater nuance in the flavors of each dish. The thing I honestly enjoyed most was the complimentary bread and sun-dried tomato dip, which has gotten a number of shoutouts of Yelp already. I would come back to this spot to get a handful of appetizers, eat that bread, and hang out for a few hours. It does seem like the restaurant needs more staffing. Everyone we saw was very kind, but it took a long time to get a server's attention whenever we needed something.

When my husband and I went, Taz was available to offer suggestions and answer questions. And you can see the passion he has for sharing his love of food. We were one of three tables who had never been and we were each greeted like new friends. I highly suggest going on the weekend to get the butter chicken on special. My husband loved his lamb kebabs and although he has never liked Hummus before, he nearly licked the plate. Our server Jason was prompt and kind and we are surely going to return. Oh and we noticed that the two folks on what looked like a first date were still there after we left and went grocery shopping! I have the feeling they will both be back too.

It's always lovely to see the brains and beauty behind this place when she comes out, but honestly, without her, the food would not be as amazing as it is, freshly made to order, perfectly! Thank you for being the amazing humans you are feeding us quite often. I'm gonna need frequent flyer miles or a bakers dozen card soon. lol Nothing but love!!!!

If you love authentic Mediterranean and Turkish flavors made with the freshest ingredients -- this one's a must-try. We kicked things off with handcrafted cocktails -- The Martini? Officially on my "every single visit" list. The Smoky Nights - a nice amalgamation of Mezcal and Black Label The Old Efendi Fashioned was perfectly balanced, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The Cold Mezze Board was a stunning collection of flavors -- every bite delivered. The spicy ezme easily stole the show for me. Sigara Börek came out hot and crisp -- the kind of appetizer you keep reaching for. For entrées, the Chicken Shish and Atlantic Salmon were cooked to perfection -- well-seasoned, juicy, and served with delicious accompaniments that tied everything together. Dessert was a sweet surprise -- The Kazandibi (homemade milk custard) was melt-in-your-mouth good without being overly sweet. And the Künefe? Perfectly portioned and every bit as indulgent as you'd hope. A refreshed vibe, authentic flavors, and 20 years of getting it right -- Efendi Mediterranean is ready for its next chapter.

The doner plate is a must-try: tender, hand-sliced lamb and beef served over fluffy rice with fresh purple cabbage and a dollop of tzatziki. The meat is seasoned beautifully and juicy -- one of the best kebab plates I've had in the area. The hummus starter is creamy, smooth, and flavorful -- perfect with warm pita. It's simple, fresh, and a great way to start the meal before diving into the heavier dishes. Service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere makes it great for everything from a casual lunch to a fun dinner night out. I'll definitely be back to try more items on the menu!
