First time in on Friday and it was fast and delicious. You get a free falafel disk dipped in hummus as you wait in line, which is a nice touch. Unlimited pita near the exit is also great. I had the chicken shawarma and it was filling and stayed warm back to the office in the frigid temps of February. I would have liked to see the chicken and other proteins being made behind the counter, it seemed as though all of it was prepared in the back out of sight and brought in, unlike say a chipotle where you see the protein being cooked. Falafel King is simple. Get some rice, meat, hummus, veggies and falafels. It really doesn't get easier than that. I've been here a number of times and it is consistently good. The guys that take the order will usually greet you with a falafel but you can always ask them to put it in your container if you want. My go to is the chicken shawarma plate which include diced chicken, rice, 2 falafels, a small salad and hummus. You can grab pita in the back by the utensils. I've also tried the lamb, which is pretty good for a "fast food" place. The vegetarian plate does not disappoint. Everything is full of flavor but the meat can be a little dry. I usually ask for extra sauce. Given the price and size of the portion, this place is always a good lunch spot. The dining is pretty limited but not bad during non-lunch rush hour times. There's extra hot sauce in the back for your liking. Ordering is very quick and they accept credit cards. Overall, it's a good place if you want something quick, cheap and filling. read more

They are cheaters. They are not giving the receipt for our payment and in the last two weeks they charged me double the original amount of my food two times. The first time i reported this incident, they apologized and provided me free lunch but the next time when i reported that incident they simply rejected saying i should have gone there the very next day it happened. Since they are not giving the receipt it is going to their favor. Please get the receipt after your payment and verify the charges made. This is the third - and newest - Falafel King in downtown Boston. Awesome stuff. I find it amazing that a 'mom-and-pop' eatery now outnumbers the likes of McDonald's and other national chains. That being said, the food, service, and value is second to none. All components of my dish were perfect; I went for the beef-lamb shawarma plate. So tasty. Good quick lunch where they hand out a free falafel like hot cakes! The falafel itself is some of the best in the city -- not too dry, and super flavorful. The prices are reasonable for the area -- sometimes it's hard to find lunch for less than $10 in the city. You can definitely get lunch for $7-$8 here, and the portions are huge. Do not take a second bite until after you have paid, or you will be stuck with your mouth full when the cashier asks what you ordered! Oh Falafel King why did you have to break my heart? We had it good together at your Winter St location and here you go all big shot opening up on Summer St. in the old Qdoba building to remind me every day that you are here for me (I literally work across the street). When you opened at your new location I was psyched! I have always loved your salads, falafel roll-ups, and lentil soup. You have been great for vegetarians and vegans. However you broke up with me hard last Thursday and my heart still hurts. I tried out your new location and ordered my usual falafel roll-up. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, though I did have to ask for my free falafel while waiting in line (wasn't an automatic thing like you do at the Winter St. location). I even got an drink - an Orangina which I never do because I was in a good mood and wanted to treat myself after mailing in a difficult application at the post office. I carried my food back to my office and started eating. All was well, your new location had it down, the falafel roll-up tasted just like the Winter St roll-up and saved me a 10 min walk each way. Then 1/2 way through it I took another bite and at that point that's when you decided we were done. I tasted something BBQ, something grilled/smokey. What it could it be? Suddenly that familiar taste I haven't had in almost 14 years came back to me... it was a piece of chicken! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO. How could you? Why? So mean. I was having such a good day and you just tried to pull me down. There is absolutely no reason chicken should be in my falafel roll-up. Clearly something is very wrong. I grab lunch here frequently. I usually go early (before 12) but if you are confronted by a long line, don't despair. It moves quickly and you will be rewarded with a tasty falafel dipped in hummus when you reach the front. My favorite is the kafta plate and I also love the baba ganoush roll up. Enjoy! read more

without exaggeration, i will sometimes feel an urge to have falafel king for lunch as the first thought i think in the morning when i wake up. let me tell you - i love middle eastern food. the sourness in the grape leaves, tabouli salad, the spicy sauce and shawarma, all of it. what i didn't like so much was falafel. i'll have chickpeas in my salad, but i hadn't had a falafel that i cared for - until i came here. and was handed a free sample falafel (which they give you, every time) by the happiest food-service man i had ever met. i thought "heck, it's free," and took a bite. my life was changed forever. yes, the salad plates are huge. the chicken is seasoned very well and always tender. and they give free pita. the sauces are on point, and the rice is delicious. but all of that is just sprinkles on top as long as you have a couple falafels on your plate, biting into that crispy, seasoned goodness, preferably with a dab of hummus. don't worry about the long line - they've also mastered efficient food service. you'll be in and out in under 5 minutes, tops, regardless how many people might be waiting. and you'll be right there with the rest of the happy, happy people, soon to be the envy of your awaiting coworkers back in the cube farm. read more

Good food and good portions. However, the place is too fast paced. As soon as you walk in they make you hurry with your order when you haven't even look at the menu (and this is even before the rush when no one was in line). If you also get the chicken kabob with Greek salad, it doesn't come with feta or olive like you'd expect, you have to ask for it. Wouldn't asking for a Greek salad be enough? That's usually what's on it. The woman at the register is also consistently rude. She does not say hi or thank you at all and always has a grumpy look on her face. I asked her how her day was twice and she ignored me. I also asked if there was turmeric on the chicken and she told me to come back and ask the question when it's not so busy. There were only 2 people in line still ordering! I am allergic to turmeric and just wanted to make sure it wasn't on the chicken. This is not the way to run a business. I'm not sure if the head chef there is the owner, but he also has a chip on his shoulder sometimes and could use a lesson in manners. While this place is a gold mine, they really need to up their customer service. It's appalling. read more

This place is run by thieves. They charged me $7.99 prior to tax when my roll up was listed at $7.50 prior to tax. When I confronted the cashier about this, she blamed the cash register and refused to refund me. She tried to say it's because of the tax and I told her I could read the receipt. If they want to charge customers more, post those prices. Otherwise, it's stealing. The falafel is great. The shawarma is meh. I went here twice before reviewing just to make sure I hadn't just randomly stumbled upon a good day at the Falafel King. First, this place is amazing. They are very efficient and one can be in and out in under four minutes. While waiting in line they hand you a fresh falafel dipped in hummus and it is DELICIOUS. These are the best falafel I've had in Boston... (the benchmark of good middle-eastern food) they are the right proportion, enough crispiness on the outside and perfectly moist in the inside. I've ordered the falafel salad plate that includes a generous portion of hummus, tabouli and two large falafel with a green salad. Add super tender chicken and it's still under $10. The staff is friendly and fast. I got my food in a couple of minutes. They even gave me samples even though there was no line. I mean seriously, who does not love samples? The location is convenient and there's a nice seating arrangement. I always get the chicken kabob plate because it's so solid. I go here for lunch quite often. The chicken kebab plate is very good. The chicken is tender. I was never a huge fan of falafels, but this place has a really good falafel! They always give you one as a sample. I think they are converting me to the other side now! The price is reasonable (about $8.95 for the kebab dinner) and the food is good. I've had a falafel wrap at another Falafel King location and loved it, but today's just did not compare. Disclaimer: this is coming from a Middle Eastern girl, so I have high standards for the cuisine. The falafel was a little dense, but still had good flavor, but the wrap was so bland. It had tahini, which I couldn't taste, tomatoes, lettuce, and cucumbers along with the falafel (sadly no pickles). We also had a tabbouli platter - the flavor on that was great, but lots of long parsley stems. Also, there was no dressing on the cucumber and tomato salad. This is ORIGINAL KING!!! Been going since 2000 and he's the real King!!! I love the new place because its super clean and yes!! He has actually gotten production to go faster even!!! No matter when you come in your are in and out fast!!! The quality has remained high as always and the falafels are the best on the planet!!! The only thing that has changed for me is that they added lamb kabobs to their menu and I'm SOOO glad they did!!! I use to be a huge fan on Falafel King back when there was just the food cart, and the Winter St. location. However, this new Summer St. location leaves much to be desired. On my most recent visit I ordered the Falafel Salad Plate with chicken. Strike 1--No free falafel while waiting for my food to be prepared...This isn't a big deal, but I did take notice. Strike 2-- My food was thrown together sloppy with little care. The tabouli salad juice drowned the hummus and saturated my plate, and the hot sauce/white sauce only covered my falafels instead of the chicken and salad it was intended for. Strike 3-- When I finally sat down to eat my slop of a plate, I discovered my chicken to be cold, and my falafels disgustingly ICE cold. I contemplated sending the food back, but after seeing a customer walk out after getting in a disagreement with a worker, I didn't want to bother with the hassle. I certainly will not return to this location, but will give the Winter St. location another shot. read more

Hit or miss, but always in my lunch rotation. Sometimes it seems as though I am not getting my money's worth with plates and salads, because the portions are not very consistent, and they are thrown together very quickly considering they're $10. However for wraps, this place is great. It is good and tasty, but sometimes I am disappointed with what is thrown together in that Styrofoam container. Also- if you are dining in for lunch, the atmosphere is terrible. There is a huge flat screen TV but all it is is a Falafel King slide show - CNN or ESPN would be nice. Also, the Summer Street location is in a virtual dead zone for cell reception, so Wifi would be nice, considering how much lunch business they actually do. I always get take out now. read more

The food is good but the people is RUDE! I was offered a falafel while in line. As my hands were, because all morning shopping, I asked the guy to put it in my plate. When the rice guy was adding the extras, he yelled at the cashier, to charge me extra for the courtesy falafel. The cashier opened my lunch and when I look at the total, they added one dollar for the falafel. I complained and the cashier explained to him, and he jumped to the cashier and opened the lunch again to take the falafel. So ridiculous! I canceled the order, went somewhere else! read more

I've been working in the area for the better part of the last three years, I've frequented both the Summer St and, most recently and most often, the Washington St locations. The food is decent for something quick in the area - it's on par with the other places to eat. The service here is hit or miss. I ask for a falafel wrap without tahini sauce every single time. Do I get tahini sauce? Most times I do. The issue is that they have two people working on every order. This is a waste of their internal costs, a decrease of their overall production volume, and an increase in error. Only one of the two people is listening to the order and the second person is completly on auto pilot. This is strange because the line is usually long and throughout the falafel castle and by assigning two employees to each order, the kingdom is basically cutting their staff in half as as well as the in/out time for each patron. The faster you go, the quicker the line goes. The quicker the line goes, the more people will come in to replenish the line. The more people come in to replenish the line, the more sales are made and the higher the profits are. Whenever there is a screw up, I make sure to let them know it's not correct. There hasn't been a time when I didn't leave without the right order, but never without sufficient attitude from one of the falafel knights behind the counter. "What do you mean you can't eat that?" "I'm allergic." "What are you allergic to?" "I'm not sure, but there's something in there that really doesn't work for me." "Tahini? It's in the hummus! WHY CAN YOU EAT THE HUMMUS BUT NOT THIS!" Seriously? Can you just check the attitude behind your shitty mustache so I can get back to work? Taking the time to listen to the customers and making the orders correct the first time may take two extra seconds, but it takes less time than having an unnecessary dietary discussion and then remaking the wrap.
