Would have expected a higher rating for this - luckily i didn't check beforehand. For such a prime location next to the Boston Common I thought the food was decent and excellent value for money - we got the chicken super shawarma (which was stuffed) and kofta paining, which was decent. Fries were really good too. They have some seating in case you want to sit down (which we definitely did after a hard afternoon of walking/sightseeing)

My 100th review had to be for a special place! The best halal food in the area with massive portions. Food is authentic, seasoned well, and cooked to perfection. I was in town to visit my office and had their food EVERY night whether or not I already had dinner lol. Not ashamed to admit it! The owner ended up knowing me and my SO fairly well by the end of our visit and I really enjoyed seeing him each time, like a long lost relative haha. Can't say enough about how good the food is, how satisfying it is. Temp is piping hot, sauce is A+, meat is so tender with the char that apparently nobody can get just right, and you can tell it's all fresh. Veggies are fresh as well. Fries are good, rice is addicting. The hummus is so good here idk why, very garlicky and texture is good! Pita is a pass for me but SO liked it. I will always come back every time I'm back in Boston... possibly every day lol. Love these guys. Great service, cheerful folks who appreciate their customers. I've had similar style halal food hundreds of times all over the country, all over the world, but this place just always hits the spot. Yes it's a no frills establishment but at least it's clean. Sometimes the folks coming in are hit or miss, interesting mix of students, professionals, and just random stragglers. Staff does a great job managing the people in there.

Black Seed is a very casual cafe with Greek and Mediterranean food like baklava and falafel. It has a convenient location across from Boston Common and is open kind of late. Wraps are good for carrying around walking. A value because of how much they put in these so the prices are pretty good. There's healthy options here and lots for vegetarians. I came by here to get something on the way back later in an evening. One of the less fancier places around here. This has order at the counter service. Menu is posted above the counter. There's lots to choose from, including platters and wraps. Falafel wrap is $8.50 and it's pretty big. This is stuffed with a generous amount of falafel and includes cucumbers and tomatoes. Good tahini sauce is on it. This stuff is really thick. Falafel was crispy without being burnt. There's also a platter that has falafel and choice of a few salads. It's good if you're really hungry. The prices are much higher for the platters but worth it because these are enough for a couple people. Also the desserts of course include baklava. It seems most people here order carryout and won't eat inside. The inside isn't big and only has a few tables.

Employees were really helpful and brought our order to us when it was ready. We went with the shawarma chicken and rice plate and a chicken kabob and rice plate. It comes with salad and garlic sauce for the chicken. The sauce was delicious, and the rice was so soft and fluffy. The chicken was very flavorful and delicious. Salad was great too and came with dressing. For the price it's a lot of food and we had leftovers which was convenient. Location is right next to Boston commons as well which makes easy to stop by!

Tremendous value from the large portion sizes and consistency, optimal location for the common and downtown Boston. Staff is very friendly and helpful and are attentive to customizations/substitutions in your order. Have never been dissatisfied by Black Seed, a must-try for fans of middle eastern and halal dishes. The food at Black Seed is fresh, delicious, and is ready quickly via an easy pager system. Service is efficient and polite. The ambiance is pretty spare, but if you sit by the window you'll have the benefit of a view of the Common. We love to stop by before a theatre performance and usually allow a good hour to dine in before heading to our entertainment. Bon appétit! read more

Old Stinky yearning for a wicked good burger today. Remember seeing on Yelp that this place had wicked pissah ones, so let's give it a whirl and see what happens. So punched one up with Uber Eats. Arrived with a nice big order of very tasty fries and a large thick burger of wicked good quality. All wicked tasty! Burger was so large, Stinky could not finish it. The Baklava for dessert was really wicked pissah yummy! Wish I had gotten two! Wish everything had arrived sooner and hotter, but not the restaurant's fault. One always takes a chance with a delivery service. read more

It's not fine dining, so I went in with low expectations--especially after seeing the reviews--but the falafel wrap was wrapped to perfection. The ratio of falafel to greens to hummus was excellent, with everything well distributed throughout. The falafel itself was slightly overcooked. Black Seed is wonderful. It's one of the only spots around DTX to get healthy, real food late at night. Alternately, if you're having a really bad day - or a really strong joint - the super shawarma wrap (meat, fries, pickles, sauce) also absolutely hits the spot. I cannot emphasize how much better this is than Halal Guys or other options! read more

BLOWN AWAY. Every single thing we ordered was the best version we'd ever had. Falafel plate was UNREAL, so crunchy outside & soft inside. Side salad was so fresh & delicious, chicken kabob plate was incredible, and the rice pudding... holy cow. Plus everyone in there was so friendly. This review is beyond overdue...Black Seed is 100000% worth the trek downtown from Fenway! So many options and especially inclusive towards vegans/vegetarians. Everything is super filling and fresh! They have menu items geared toward every taste bud - from burgers to hot plates and wraps, everything is delicious. It's affordable to college students, has a great amount of seating, and the employees get your food out to you super fast no matter how crowded it may be. Easily some of the best food I've had since I've been here, and it's not a matter of if I'll come back - it's when. Can't recommend this place enough! read more

Wow. I'm blown away. Came here for late night food, hoping for something mediocre at best. But it turns out this place CRANKS our good quality food in a low quality environment. It seems like somewhere where if you were able to tolerate the food, it'd be a win. But no... the food itself is fantastic. The staff is tremendously friendly, tossing out fist pumps to whoever will take them. If you're looking for a quick bite or just something to hold you over after the bar, there's nothing better!! Owner is ungrateful for his loyal customers. ambiance is mid, decor is pathetic. Was in town with friends and family and we were hanging out at the commons. Saw Blackseed across the way and stopped in for lunch. So Disappointed, restaurant was not clean. Food was bland, not a lot of flavor and not very good. Sadly won't be back. Would not recommend. read more

Giving it a three star because the place is not very clean and cozy. Staff is not very friendly either. Place is 'Halal' and has the best halal burgers in town for sure. Food taste is good but i would definitely recommend trying out there burgers. Serving sizes are very adequate. Major plus is it being open till late. it stays open after midnight for most of the nights. It can be a better place, if the management pays attention on service and cleanliness. read more

If you're looking for an inexpensive place to grab fresh, delicious, authentic mediterranean cuisine, look no further! Everything at Black Seed Cafe is mouthwatering. From the chicken shawarma plate, to the salmon plate (I've never tasted takeout salmon so yummy), to the baklava. The lamb plate is my guys favorite. They also have an assortment of drinks, and desserts. I love the fellas at Black Seed, they always take good care of us. read more

Still love this place after 10 years. They have awesome breakfast, lunch, and dinner selections for reasonable prices. I love their chicken and falafel wraps, and they have a ton of choices on their menu. They have smoothies and great juices like mango juice. They're also open super late, later than anyone else! I have recommended them to 4 people in the past few months and everyone loves their food and can't believe they never tried this place before, since the location is so convenient. Parking is difficult though, but worth it. I love supporting this small business, they've been consistent for many years and I will always recommend them & return for delicious, completely satisfying food! read more

I'll get right into it- I don't think this is a place for burgers so my review reflects that and not their other food choices. My friends got the veggie burger and they also said it wasn't that great. The burgers are just soggy buns and not really seasoned at all. I think the perk of Black Seed is that it is open LATE!!! So it works when everything else is closed. The fries were really good though- but it doesn't really make up for what the burgers lacked. I want to give this place another try, and I think I'd try any if the hot plates or wraps- just not the burgers LOL. read more

Reasonably priced and a nice halal place in the heart of downtown. I got the happy burger- and it sure made me happy! The party was nice and juicy and cooked to perfection. Spur of the moment restaurant choice just due to the proximity to Park St. T Station. Good thing I wasn't voracious when I got there, however with the amount of time I waited for food, it quickly turned into disappointment. My friend ordered a lamb sandwich and received his order within minutes. I realized after 5 minutes of waiting that I should have ordered something else besides the chicken plate for $11. Ugh after I placed my order the guy behind the register did not give me any warning, which I would have appreciated that it would take forever (25 minutes). There were about 4 people total in the restaurant. Unfortunately I had to check with them multiple times and he seemed extremely disinterested. When I finally received my food it was only OK and my friend had already finished his sandwiches. These Mediterranean / Falafel places are seriously a dime a dozen in Boston, you have plenty of other options. (Bonapita, Shawarma Falafel, etc...) read more

The line took 5 minutes to get to me, where I placed my order for the Chicken Shwarma Salad (~$13 and change). As per usual, I received one falafel dipped in hummus to consume as a snack while going through the ordering process. The salad is a combination of a bed of lettuce and the Middle Eastern style cucumber and tomato salad. You get ~3x the amount of the cucumber tomato salad compared to what you get in the rice plate (usually the rice plate's cucumber tomato salad occupies the small square in the take out box). You get a big scoop of hummus sitting in the other take out box's small square. A generous amount of chicken adorned the salad. The food is a solid 4*, great for work lunch and with generous portions. Being distracted with a piece of falafel while in line seems a bit silly, but really brightens up my experience (yeah I know everyone gets this treatment, but still).

I got the Falafel dinner and it was exactly what I wanted. and there are was Hummos,Tabola salad,bread. It was a great lunch. I took it after 10 minutes. after that, we took our lunch and get out for park Boston common, because the black seed cafe it's small and crowded of people. I was out with my friends around the Boston common area when we came across Black Seed Cafe. I can safely say that we tried practically everything on the menu!Right from Falafel, pancakes, french toast, iced liquid brownie, caramel latte and lamb burger!and I must say that they were all pretty good.Yummy!!!! One draw back is that the food is kind of oily. Tasty but oily. The staff also needs to be a little friendly!Also there was not much variety on the menu!But on the whole it is not such a bad place to visit!Good for the occasional visit, when you think, i won't get a heart attack after all! read more

I wasnt impressed. I went once at a last minnute implulse. I ws totally not satisfied. I ordered something like a seafood plate and got a few pieces of shrimp and some rice, unlike the picture of the menue on the glass door. I went there around lunch time. Sometime between 12:00 and 1:00. Lets put it this way, I dont think I will ever go there again. Was a waste of money. Not 2 expensive but a little more than what the food was worth. Waaaay too salty! OMG! I ordered the Lamb Burger with fries and although it was cooked perfectly, they added enough salt to give you an instant heart attack! I didn't like the fries at all and wasn't going to eat salted fries with a salty burger. I only took a few bites of the burger and ate less than a handful of fries in fear that all that sodium would leave me with a headache. 2 stars for decent customer service, but this food is a health concern to me, I can't do it! read more

My favorite restaurant in downtown. The Kabobs are always on point. During lunch, it's always crowded so I opt to get a chicken kabob wrap which is surprisingly quick to make, delicious tasting, and relatively cheap. Dinner is great here too because when the restaurant isn't crowded like it is during lunch, it's a nice place to sit down and enjoy a lamb kabob dinner plate, which is served with generous amounts of rice pilaf and greek salad. read more

What a horrendous and unsafe place!! A waiter invited young men into the cafe to fight while my family was eating dinner. They bullied some young men outside and attacked them with a dough roller. This establishment was a violent and hostile environment! I will never go back. read more

Great place for a quick bite and the owner is very friendly and always customizes the dish with all the indigents I usually want regardless of whats on the menu. The line always moves fast even during lunch time rush. Falafel wrap is also really good here. read more
