The only reason this place gets good reviews is that there are limited options for falafel in boulder. It was certainly not a great falafel.

The food was fresh and tasty but the place itself was not all that comfortable. Clean but feels like an under-cared-for place. The staff was way too young and inattentive to make us feel welcome and in the slack of the day were texting or talking as if not at work. And it seemed that it was the owner who was on his cell phone (indoors and just outside) the whole time we were there. Also we ordered turkish coffee, for which there was no cream or milk (may be traditional but it's unkind to not have it available) and the baklavah seemed stale. And the music was WAY too loud. Falafel King should first be acknowledged for taking the word "Stingy" to a whole new level. Have YOU ever had your gyro meat weighed in front of you on a tiny scale? And then to have your 4 slivers of meat put on a stale pita pulled from a bag, not fresh baked, and drown the whole thing with iceberg lettuce, nothing remotely nutritional. Of course the alternative is not so mouthwatering either. Falafel balls that have been sitting under a heat lamp for who knows how long, dried out and put on a stale pita. You want feta? onions? EVERYTHING comes at an extra charge, and not a small one. I've never had such a mediocre experience with "mediterranean" food, and that is putting it kindly. The food is ridiculously overpriced for the under par quality, and not at all memorable. They had delicious looking Iced tea's, however I was not excited about dishing out 3 bucks to try it, and have it reflect the quality of their food. i'm a bit of a Mediterranean snob, so take this with a grain of salt. falfel is about a 3 (out of 10). Hummus is 2 Tabuli 2 Shwarma is about a 6, though, which is extremely high considering the location. place is clean. Service is slow. A tad too expensive, i believe. read more

I went to Falafel King today for lunch and it was my first time there as well as probably the first time I've eaten falafel. Ordered the falafel and hummus. I though the woman working behind the counter was very friendly. She even laughed at a fart joke one of my co-workers made under his breath about eating hummus. Probably should throw in a extra star for that. Well it wasn't really a joke. He muttered "hummus makes me fart." Well I'm laughing already. She was more than happy to explain the different items because she could tell we were complete noobs there. Looked like she was in the middle of training new counter help so it was remarkable how patient she was with us. Quality food. Tasty. Happy I ate there. We were bullied about our son's allergy here! On 7/23/19 we were walking by when a worker from this restaurant offered us a sample of the falafel. My daughter and I happily sampled, but then the man asked my 7 year old son if he wanted some, and he said, "No, I have an allergy." The man told him it was vegan and had no milk, and we insisted that our son didn't eat from restaurants due to cross contamination. He kept pushing us, questioning, "Why won't you let him try it?" "It only has these ingredients, what are you scared of?", etc, etc, and I kept politely explaining (we should have just walked away). He then turned to my husband and asked, "Are you going to control your wife?" My husband informed him that this was not a big deal, but that he didn't want to use a shot of Epinepherin in the middle of Pearl Street, and we walked away. It provided us a good opportunity to talk to our kids, age 7 and 9, about peer pressure and bullying. But it left us all shocked and upset that he would act like that. To treat a family like this over a 7 year old's life threatening allergy is absolutely inexcusable. read more

Ate here this past weekend for lunch with the girlfriend. We were looking for a place on Pearl street in Boulder. I was feeling like gyro meat, so this was our choice! As we walked in we were greeted right away. They were very friendly and welcoming. I had been awhile since I had Mediterranean food, so I was unfamiliar with the side dishes. All of them involving vegetable prepared differently, besides the french fries. I knew I wanted gyro meat which is one of my favorite dishes to eat. There were falafel balls which we did not know anything about. When we asked, they gave us a sample and it was delicious. It was a fried battered ball that I'm guessing was made with some type of vegetable, but it was good. I ordered that as a side along with a vegetable salad side. My girlfriend got the same, but with hummus. I really liked the option that they had of a whole wheat pita as opposed to the regular white pita. The pita was yummy as I prefer wheat options. The food here was excellent and served to us within 3 minutes as we sat down. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting healthy food that tastes great! read more

Either their hours of operation that are listed online are not accurate, or their employees close the store early. Twice in the past month, they have closed at least an hour before what is listed for their store hours and one of the times we were let in the store, only to be told that they were already closed. When asked why their hours of operation listed a different closing time, the employee stated "sometimes we just close early". Poor customer experiences. read more

The Falafel King has been one of our favorite places to eat Greek food for the past 10 years Unfortunately, we don't plan to ever go back. To begin with, there has been a great price increase. Until about a year ago, you go get the "special" for $7.99. Now it is $11.99!!! Any of their specials you can't get for less than $10.00/$11.00 bucks. On top of that, the customer service has been lousy!! We were just there yesterday. I was in the middle of ordering and the person who was taking our order decided she needed to make a phone call. She also forgot to ask for our Gyros wraps if we wanted tzaki sauce, feta cheese, onions, etc. When she rang up our order, I had to tell the lady, that I still had more to order. When we got our food, we were all disappointed. My husband and daughter wanted hot sauce and stated that the sauce wasn't hot. Our falafel balls were hard and over done, Plus, the amount of meat you get is skimpy. If you are going to increase your prices to such an extent, at least deliver on your food, and you should be providing exceptional customer service. This is one of my favorite places to eat on Pearl Street. The gyros are amazing! I went to Greece last year and came to this place expecting Greek standards.. And it passed! I'm so pleased with not only the delicious food, but the owner introduced himself to my business partner and I and really made a great impression on us. We also enjoy their female staff; they're always so nice and sweet to us. Definitely try this place out! read more

Eh. Tabouleh was dry. Schwarma tasted a little gamey, had a lot of gristle, and the serving size was small for a schwarma plate. Pita was cold. Tzatziki was bland and had obviously been hanging out for a little too long (tasted funky). I'll be going elsewhere next time. read more

Great, tasty, affordable meals! The hummus is organic and the falafel balls are freshly made. Delicious! The staff is helpful and friendly.

I am surprised this place is rated so high. The only reason I can figure is the people going here have never had truly good Falafel. Me and my son went here for dinner one night. He had never had falafel and the reviews were good so we went here. I have to say, I won't be back. The bread was real basic, not warm at all. Very little flavor to anything. read more

It's cheap, it's quick, it's easy to make vegetarian, they have outside sitting. It's ok.

I love a good falafel but this place is just ok. There was nothing special. It was just average. The wrap wasn't the greatest, the falafel balls were ok and the tziki sauce was pretty good but i could not even taste the hot sauce. My go-to spot when I'm craving a real gyros wrap like I used to get regularly in Chicago. Gyros on the spit/rotisserie as it MUST be (shawarma too!), pita wrap done right, i.e. a whole pita lightly grilled before filling with goodness, not sliced with the goods stuffed in the "pocket". I almost always get the gyros wrap special with a drink and 6 falafel for about $12 (you can get fries too but you GOTTA watch the falafel machine at work up front), and they have good sides like tabouleh, dolmas etc. Been coming here for years and I expect that won't change as long as I live in the region. They have Sport Tea brewed fresh, lemonade with mint, the free water even has cucumbers in it and the middle eastern music in the background is a welcome change from looping classic rock. Once they were even playing the soundtrack from Pulp Fiction! If you even think you like gyros and haven't tried this place, get in here! read more
