The service was fast, the food was plentiful, and the staff was very friendly. I was impressed by how much food came on my plate and how fresh the salad tasted. Lamb Shawarma platters at other places sometimes have a lot of fat on the meat, but the one I had here was nearly perfect. The large and varied menu (roll-ups, plates, shawarmas, kabobs, soups, and salads) is extensive, with something for everyone. I like that the owner helped to build the place with his own hands, and the art adorning the wall is his own as well. There is room here to sit down, but it is a modest establishment, aesthetically. This place is pretty solid, especially for being so new. I've had a lot of shawarma/falafel in Boston and have a couple of favorite places. First off, they were just nice guys. Nothing over the top - just cool, straight forward, friendly. What they do right: -FALAFEL. Best I've had in a while. Really, really good. Great flavor, warm, lightly fried, perfectly sized. -Baba ghanoush. I am kinda picky about this one and I really liked theirs bc it was more on the chunky side. Some places puree it to death or add too much oil. Not here. -Tahini sauce. Simple and delicious. The chicken & lamb shawarma was pretty good, but I did get a lot of burnt/crusty pieces. Wasn't as tender as I've had. Their cucumber salad was just okay--not much flavor there. Hummus was pretty standard, spicy sauce is HOT (and I can handle heat), and the fattoush was so so. Oh and they are a bit cheaper than some other nearby places, especially for their huge portions. Win! read more

Pains me to write this, as I've had much better experience when walking in on the spot and grabbing a quick bite. They actually might have the best falafel I've had in the Boston area, and their peanut sauce is delicious. Not to mention, their prices are pretty great. I ordered 3 days ahead for a group of 20 for a catering ordering. This was by far the worst catering experience I've had. The order was 50 minutes late (meeting was already over), the food was spilled and messy, and everything came out ice cold. I was disappointed because I love this place and chose it based on previous experience. 12:00 - "driver is 15 minutes away" 12:20 - "driver hasn't left" 12:30 - "I don't know where the driver is, we're busy" At this point I had called 3 times to check on a time and to cancel if we weren't going to get food. They wouldn't answer a call for me to cancel it. My co-worker called from her number and she was told "5 minutes" 12:45 - food comes, spilled, messy and cold I did call back to the shop and the owner gave me a call back to apologize. Apparently there was 2 massive catering orders placed that morning and ours took the back seat. He did offer to take 25% off for being close to an hour late. Their falafel has always been sub par: bready and grey inside (are there any actual legumes up in here?). However their baba ganoush is amaaazing. Last week, at 10 pm on a Friday, I had a strong craving for chicken shawarma. All the restaurants nearby had closed. Undeterred, I set out on a quest to quiet my rumbling belly, and stumbled upon Falafel Place. The chicken shawarma roll up was exactly what I needed. Even though the restaurant was slammed with takeout orders and was closing shortly, the chicken tasted fresh and moist. I love that they include garlic spread along with the tahini in their roll ups. Husband and I ordered 4 dishes for under $30 (chicken shawarma roll up, falafel roll up, cucumber salad and grape leaves), and walked away stuff. If your looking for something traditional don't come here. The sauce on the chicken shawarma tasted like it had mayo mixed in with the tahini. As far as flavor it was ok if not good, but not what i was wanting or looking forward to. The hot sauce was really good but there was too much sauce in general so at the end it was difficult to eat. The shawarma was really dry but with all that extra sauce ( i didn't ask for extra) I didn't really mind the dryness of the shawarma and it made the first bites good....not dry as can frequently happen. Went in to pick up and the cashier/cook ( not sure) wasnt wearing any PPE. He told me they had asked the owner to replenish supplies but had not yet done so. Looks like Winter Hill has a new go-to falafel restaurant! The falafel roll-up with hummus was really good. They had a nice hot sauce and tasty hummus. I especially liked that they asked me what I wanted on my roll-up and let me customize my order a bit. Tried the french fries -- pretty good but can't compare to Amsterdam Falafel. I also tried the lentil soup which was really great! Vegan maybe? Bottom line, clean, fresh food served with a smile. Plus lot's of veggie options, in my hood. What's not to like? I've been back a few times but had to reduce my review to 3 stars. If you are trying to get their tasty fries and a chicken or beef shawarma it's expensive! Tasty, cheap, and super friendly. Free WiFi to boot! They have everything a classic falafel joint should have. Shwarma, tabouli and baklava etc. A good place for two to four people to grab a bite. Ambiance is very relaxed with bright red walls and a mix of French and Algerian music. They even have a tiny TV over the drinks cooler so you can watch the game. This place is LEGIT! I have had Shawarma in a couple of different places in and around the greater Boston area and I must say this place does the wrap best. First off the staff is very friendly, never a line to order (because they take care of business). When ordering they are helpful and knowledgeable with everything on the menu and will gladly answer any and all questions you have. The wraps are delicious (really the only thing I order) and pressed to the perfect griddleness without being burnt or not warm enough. I think my favorite thing about the wraps are they arent soggy or leaky like some places I have been, always very clean and easy to eat with tons of delicious taste. I would highly recommend getting hot sauce on it (and some on the side if you are at all like me), definitely not for people who don't like things spicy though. We ordered dinner which was delivered on time. The flavors of the chicken kabab were amazing; the kind you can't tell what tastes that good, but it just does. However, the chicken was a little over-cooked, yet delicious. We also had the falafel rollup, another tasty item on our dinner plate. The spinach pie was good, although, I would have liked the crust a bit more crunchy, and the filling to have a bit more flavor. The staff is courteous and respectful but they have a hard time following simple directions. I asked for a falafel with a little hummus and a little tahini sauce. Now don't get me wrong, a little to me might be alot to you and vice versa however their comes a point where thats obviously not a "little". They squash the falafel which is a technique I found in Jordan however they mashed the falafel so much I thought I was just eating chickpeas. I'm usually not a falafel gal but was in the mood and really enjoyed my sandwich (w/ garlic sauce instead of tahini please). Good size, nicely warmed, nice falafel balls. Winter Hill got itself another food option beyond pizza/subs, and initial impressions are very positive. The owner and staff are welcoming. The menu is extensive. The food is great. What's not to love? Having opened just three days ago, it was really encouraging to see a line of about seven people in front of me when I walked in at 1pm on a Sunday. The owner (who previously owned Falafel Corner in Harvard Square before selling it last year) mentioned that after a slow first couple of days, they had a surprisingly big Saturday. So that's encouraging. We tried the falafel roll-up (one of the better ones I've had), chicken shawarma roll-up (excellent), and the lamb/beef shawarma roll-up (ridiculously good and spiced just right). The meat came off of iron skillets, not out of a microwave, and the ingredients were fresh. I saw the shawarma plates being prepared and they looked absolutely massive. I hear the kofta roll-up might be the thing to try, so I plan on doing that the next time I'm in there. But this place definitely is great news for the neighborhood. What an improvement from the previous incarnation of this space. I'm very impressed and excited. read more

It's a shame when one bad experience ruins an otherwise good place. Ordered delivery from here a few times. The food is pretty good and it's a cheaper alternative to other options, like Noor. However, today I had one of the worst customer service experiences of my life. After waiting for an hour and a half, I called Falafel Place to check on the order. I was assured that the driver was out and would be arriving in 5-10 min. After 30 minutes, I called again. This time, I was told that the meal would be covered. I felt better because I thought this was fair. The person I talked to asked me to call back when the food arrived. So I did. And then I was told that they were really busy and I should just contact Grub Hub about the mistake. I decided not to take the food because they retracted what they said. Here is why: 1- The rice tasted like ash 2- The chicken was very dry and tough to eat 3- Tahini was horribly 4- Salad was old and tomato was on the verge of expiring It seems that nobody cares about this place anymore or the staff just simply don't care anymore. Fast, delicious, copious amounts of meat/rice/salad in one nice little container. I like this place for lunch. It's really clean and the service is pretty fast.
