Aaaaaand continuing the adventures of Wendi's mediocre, traveling-for-work, overpriced, Uber-Eats-ing to her hotel! After looking at the stellar reviews I am quite convinced I just ordered the wrong thing. I had the Greek Salad with added Chicken Shawarma, and Dolmas. The total came to just under $50 after fees and tips. The portions are great, but I am unfairly biased against ICEBERG LETTUCE. LIKE UGH, WHY??? Would I want a salad that is 90% crunchy, flavorless water! I was expecting beautiful slices of tomato, Kalamata olives, and a wonderful slice of feta like I saw in the other photos :( I didn't get any of that. The pita is warm and soft though. I ordered from here tonight after discovering them on Uber Eats and I liked it. My order was made promptly after placing my order, my issue is more with Uber which I'll leave in my rating over there. It took an hour for my driver to pick up the food and another half hour to get it to me. I ordered the falafel pita, pita, tirokafteri, and loukoumades with nutella and crumbled greek cookies. My food was delicious, just a little let down it wasn't super warm. The falafel pita was packed with flavor and they accommodate my extra add ons that I left in the comments. The tirokafteri had a nice kick to it and was great with the pita. The loukoumades were unreal! The portions for the price was fair/reasonable. Shady practices have led them down a bad path. Recently went and they charged an additional packaging fee despite dining in. The owner or cashier didn't print the receipt as requested to hide it too. They were also seized and shut down at one point due to tax owed. Unfortunately we won't be coming back. The meats weren't shaved fresh either, they were just sitting in the steam table. The service is 10/10 and everyone there was super friendly. The man working the cash register made small talk with people so it had a very home/family vibe. He even gave out free samples for some dish. I overheard him talking to some other customers behind the thought process of making the gyro which was insightful and made me appreciative of what I was eating. I ordered a gyro plate which came with pita and fries. I would've liked the white sauce to be more flavorful and the meat was a bit dry. The portion size was nice and it came with a salad. Me and my brother stopped by for some gyros 10/08/24, after looking up the place in Yelp with older pictures. He has posted a review on same day as trip. Food took maybe up to 15 minutes, if that. The beef and pork combos I believe from memory is not an option from past pictures on Yelp, it's from old ownership and management I believe.. Someone came in after us wanting the same thing and the son running the counter explained they don't do that there, only authentic only. I got the Bifteki pita, Bikos aka Vikos Classic cola, and Mastiqua Sour Cherry drink. Bifteki is seasoned ground beef, with egg and bread crumbs. Since I like trying new things it was perfect that day. I will look into getting it back home going forward. Delicious. I was asked how I want it cooked, I went with how they would normally cook it. I was later asked if I like it spicy, I turned that down. If I was in Boston again I would try it that way one day. The soda taste like Pepsi but we were told less sugar. and natural mineral water instead of being carbonated. I will look into getting this back home as well. The Mastiqua Sour Cherry drink was explained by the son as something that is used to either make natural gum, this drink, or a dessert. The taste is hard to describe. I can't even say if I do or don't like it. I'm adventurous so I went for it. I would drink it again if in the mood, if it was available in my area. It can also be used in mixed drinks for alcoholic beverages I was told. There was one other flavor, but I did not get that one. The place itself is small, there is seating inside for maybe 6 people on stools counter sitting.. You can sit facing them and watch them make food. Two seat are facing window instead. I was staying near Davis Square and was searching for a late-night place to eat. I haven't had Greek food in a while so when a friend suggested this place I agreed. At first glance, it seemed like any other store from the outside. As you entered you see the decorations and the rotating meats. I went ahead and ordered a Chicken Yeero Pita. There was no indoor or outdoor seating in the restaurant which was disappointing. We had to go back home to eat our meals. The pita was very large and packed with chicken, tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, red onions, and french fries. You don't usually see many places offering large french fries on a Yeero. The food filled my hunger but it was not great. I love eating Yeeros ever since I visited Greece several years ago. The food here was not the freshest or packed with a lot of flavor. Now on the other hand it was late at night shortly before they closing. If I had arrived earlier the food probably would have been better. I plan to come back here next time I am in Sommerville. I love Greek food so it will be hard for me to stay away. Judging from all the five-star reviews here the food is excellent I will try a lunch order next time in order to make up for my late night dinner. read more

I have been on a quest to find a gyro sandwich here in the states, as I had in the little shoppes of Greece. To say that my quest is a bit of a fool's errand is an understatement. Each time I pass by a shoppe with a spinning rotisserie of meat, I pop in ... sometimes after having already eaten a full meal ... just to ensure with a few bites, at least, that I did not pass by my eventual US gyro soulmate. Alas ... I still have not found a gyro that compares to Greece. But this place is as close as I've come! I've had gyros in Los Angeles, Massachusetts, NYC, Long Island, Florida, etc. and on a scale of 1 to 10, my results have usually not moved past a 5. (1 being high school cafeteria ... 10 being Athens) I'd rate this spot a solid 7, maybe an 8. The shoppe has 3 meats ... pork (my go-to), chicken, and lamb/beef mix. The rotisserie are spinning and the meat looks favourful. I got a single gyro as for the New Year, I have vowed to take off the 'quarantine fifteen' I've put on since the lockdown thanks to takeout and washing my travel frustrations away in beer and whiskey. These gyros come with french fries already in them. That's a plus ... many spots you have to beg for them to put a few fries on, or pay extra for a whole order of fries and do it yourself. The fries are fantastic. Stay with me on this thought ... when McDonalds fries are on point (which sadly is 10-20% of the time) they are fantastic and amazing. Crispy, salty, savoury. These fries are like 'on point' McDonalds fries, only thicker. Perfectly seasoned and crispy. You'll likely have to eat a few off the top before being able to close the gyro, which is a bonus. The meat ... well, I came an hour before closing ... so I am sure earlier in the day it would be better than what I got. It was a little dry and rubbery. But ... the flavour was still good and when it's sliced off the actual rotisserie vs. kept in a bin pre-cut, it would be one step above. I think the biggest reason why Greek gyros are so much better is because the meat is fresh sliced off the rotisserie vs. the US. I blame Chipotle for instituting this habit. The tsaziki sauce is the star of the show. I can't tell you how many gyros I've thrown out after one bite because the tsaziki sauce sucked. I've seen basically sour cream with chives, watery weird sugary paste, etc. at other places. Here it has the consistency and sourness of a good Greek yogurt mixed with spices and garlic that give the sandwich a great taste. The tomatoes are fresh. Next time I will ask for some diced cucumbers, which are a sort of non-standard item but my favourite gyro stand in Rhodes made them this way and it stuck. The shoppe is basically a typical New England pizza shoppe. Sort of stuck in the 70's or 80's decorwise ... no seating ... but a friendly staff who you could tell appreciated the business during these crazy times. The staff was friendly and polite, even though I came in an hour before closing time and they were starting their close down routine, they still made me a heck of a gyro. Being so close to Boston, I was surprised that it was fairly inexpensive. For $9 you get a fresh tasting authentic gyro. A big appetite might be left a bit hungry if not ordering a side or dessert. Woukd I pay 25% more for a 25% bigger gyro? Heck yeah!! But judging by some of the other reviews on here, it seems like there are a lot of small, in shape females eating here ... so I am sure a Chipotle-sized loaded gyro would not appeal to the masses. I will certainly be back when in the area. A good Gyro is so hard to find ... if you've only had the typical weird reheated strips of meat that comes in one flavour, "gyro" at your local pizza shoppe, ypu haven't really had a gyro until you've had something like this. Solid spot for cheap! I love Greek food so I'm trying to find good places nearby. Opa definitely fits the bill. I got the Chicken Souvlaki Pita which was delicious. The chicken was really good as were the other fillings. The French fries hit the spot. Sometimes it's hard to find gyros with French friends in them these days. We also got some zucchini fritters which were very delicious. They didn't have falafel, so we got this instead. Definitely just as good if not better. The tzatziki was a good mix with the fritters. My girlfriend got the beef and lamb yeero, which she enjoyed. That pita was not for me, though The service was very friendly and helpful. The prices are also very reasonable. Highly recommend if you're looking for some solid Greek food and aren't trying to break the bank! read more

It sucks that still not able to eat inside at the time but when i got home the food was simply amazing They served it up quite fast, like others have mentioned I appreciate how they have fries in the pita wraps that definitely adds some extra uniqueness. The prices are quite fair with the portion size. Definitely very fresh and tender meats in the Gyros. Feeling for some mediterranean food? Opa has to be on the list of place to go. It's relatively cheap, and the food here is pretty tasty. The staff here are very helpful in getting what you want and overall it's a quick in and out spot. So what did I order for my quick dinner? I ordered the lamb plate, and it wasn't a small plate, but the prices weren't bad at all. To be honest, I could've gotten a gyro and I would've loved it as well but I would have ordered two because I'm sure one wouldn't have hit the spot for me. The salad was plentiful along with the fries, but I just wanted to try something different and I sadly regret that I didn't go for my original plan. Pretty much though, if you want a good gyro or some lamb, this is definitely a place that should be on your list. Opa the solutions to all these answers. Opa is more of a small eatery or hole in the wall establishment. The workers there greet you immediately when you want in and are more than happy to walk you through the menu. The menu itself is on a LED screen far in the distance. I found it easier to read the paper menu before ordering. We ordered: - a chicken yerro (gyro) - 5 stars - a chicken yeero (gyro) plate - 5 stars - tyropita (cheese pie) - 1 stars The food was delicious except for the cheese pie. The chicken was moist and crispy too. The pita was fluffy and warm. The Greek salad on the yeero plate was traditional. A generous block of feta cheese was placed on fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers and olives. As I'm typing this reviewing, I'm craving Opa! The only downfall was the tyopita or cheese pie. I took one bite of this pie and had to spit it out. The cheese was hardened and tasted like plastic. I think because the pies are kept in a glass case warmer- by the end of the day the contents over heat and harden. I wish I did t order that pie because it spoiled my experience a bit. But, next time I come here I just won't order the pie because the main meal is delicious! read more

I ordered from here a few times off of Grub Hub. I love the Chicken yeero pita's here. I usually get the chicken pita yeero with cucumbers, lettuce, olives, and green peppers. The blend of all the veggies and toppings with Tahini sauce is mouth savoring. The meat is good as well, but the toppings really do it for me. It adds the perfect spice. Amazing gyros, whichever kind of meat you like. They are made with fries if you get everything on them, which I'm not a huge fan of, but they are tasty - I just eat them first and then have the sandwich! Their tzatziki sauce is AH-MAZ-ING. So garlicky and tangy, I want everything covered in it! Fresh veggies and greens round out the sandwich and a super fluffy pita bread. The greek salad is also really good, with feta. Yum! They also carry Sophia's Greek Pantry greek yogurts - the honey yogurt is better than a lot of ice creams in my opinion, and you can get away with eating it for breakfast! It is so rich and creamy.
