Site 5 is absolutely the best site with direct views of the water but 6/7 (right next to one another so good for groups) and 8 are all lovely sites. Good tree cover and you can take the small trail down to the water for swimming/fishing. Each site has a fire pit and picnic table and lots of flat land for tents. For the hotel/restaurant, we stayed in K1 which has direct views of the water. These are not fancy rooms (no tvs or fancy furniture) but it was so relaxing and beautiful. The restaurant is good with a full bar and beautiful lake views.

An exceptional 'boutique' winery out in the wilds of Lampasas and very much worth your time…read more Pillar Bluff lacks the pretentiousness of other wineries, and is even what I'd call 'homey'! The owner, Gil, was on hand to lead us through a flight of wines (I believe it was $5 for 5 tastings) and he effortlessly charmed us through the entire selection. He's obviously very proud of the work they do at Pillar Bluff, and deservedly so. Of particular note are a very fruity Chenin Blanc and Ruby Port. But the standout is a sweet and crisp Reisling - one of a very few wineries in Hill Country to offer one, and it's excellent! Definitely add this winery to your list if you're willing head off the beaten track between Dripping Springs and Fredericksburg.

Hands down the best paella we have ever had! That's another review though! LOL The Horne family that owns and runs 7 Creeks are great folks. Always stopping by to visit (when they can, it stays pretty busy on weekend days), and they're all willing to talk about how they make the wine, wine and food pairing, etc. They offer some food items, e.g., charcuterie board, Fat Boy Cheese and crackers (if you haven't had Fat Boy cheese, you gotta get you some of that-- delicious!). And, they welcome you bringing your own food. It's a good place for families, usually quite a few there, plenty of room for kids to run around and exhaust themselves! :-) 7 Creeks usually has live music on Saturdays, and often has special menus cooked and offered by Jerry Horne, he is a fantastic cook... gumbo, street tacos, etc. Well worth your time to stop by the winery in Burnet, TX. I was able to visit this place when on a wedding oak wine train from Austin. We went on a Sunday…read more It is typically closed, but it was open for the wine train participants. The place is very pretty. It has upstairs and downstairs seating. It also has outside patio seating.. We were able to taste five of the wines on the train and were happy to see that they didn't only choose the sweet ones. I'm used to these events having mostly sweet wines. Our favorite was the Tioja. At the winery, we decided to buy three bottles of wine to share between eight of us. We bought a tioja, a red wind, and a Sangiovese. We all enjoyed the wines and even bought some to take home. The winery staff was super friendly and gave us a lot of suggestions. They did sell chicken salad, sandwich boxes, but we decided to go eat at a restaurant nearby instead.
