Couldn't get in with my bulldog specialist vet because she's been overbooked and understaffed since COVID hit. My frenchie needed a cytopoint injection and antibiotics for her chronic atopic dermatitis and secondary skin infection. When I first called this place (simply because it's the closest to home), the receptionist had an attitude but I booked an appointment just to get my beloved frenchie some relief (apparently many vets are booked up at this time). Showed up 15minutes early and my initial impression was uncomfortable because the receptionist (the same rude person I booked the appointment with) was not wearing a mask. Sat for 15 minutes without her acknowledging our presence, finally she asked me to fill out paperwork and I sat waiting another 15 minutes. Then she asked me to follow her and continued to tell me the procedure is my baby would be taken to see the vet without me and he would not be talking directly to me, rather we would communicate through the vet tech....WHAT ??? I understand if they are following a COVID procedure, however they obviously are not as she didn't wear a mask and various people came in and out of the office some with and some without masks (totally inappropriate). When I asked if I could at least talk on the phone to the vet, as all other vets are doing following COVID protocol, she responded "no he doesn't speak directly to clients , only through the vet tech"....WTF?!?! And then she copped her lousy attitude again by saying "the techs are perfectly capable of talking to you through the vet"....UMMMM, NO! You pay professional fees to COMMUNICATE TO THE SPECIALIST!!! I quickly told her we will look for a professsional elsewhere and left. I should have trusted my initial feeling when calling to make an appointment...MY RECOMMENDATION IS DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL VETERINARIAN and is ignorant staff! I have a hard time recommending this place because of the receptionist. I was charged $80 to get a few foxtails removed from my dog's ear. I didn't appreciate the price tag, but I rationalized it and moved on. However when I called to ask a follow up question when I was concerned that he had an ear infection I felt that the receptionist was rude. I wasn't sure if my question made it to the vet at all or if the receptionist was just telling me whatever she thought. Life is too short to deal with people like that. It's too bad because I don't have any complaints about the vet. read more

Woooo-wheeee.... Dr. Pyne, Dr. Pyne, Dr. Pyne. You sure know how to fix a girl up. So Kaiya had a couple of things go wrong this week. Worn out pads, sinus infection, limp... etc..... it wasn't looking to good. I'm talking no sleep, grouchy, loss of appetite - and this is just ME! For those of you ladies that are into that whole Sean Connery thing, look no further. That accent and those BLUEBLUEBLUE eyes. Wow. ;) It helps if you bring an injured animal in though. *nudge nudge*. He MIGHT give you the time of day. He MAY even schedule a follow up visit (aka 2nd date). If you're lucky, and I mean striking it gold kinda lucky, he might even remember your name. I mean, do you know how many bit*hes this guy meets a day??!?! No really though... big ones, small ones, long hair, mix breeds... Not to mention he's no BS. He's not going to whisper sweet procedures in your ear or sell you the latest and greatest thing. Plus his staff rocks. ESPECIALLY Denise. Spend two minutes with her, you'll love her. Any woman that is willing to sit her butt on a waiting room floor to help Kaiya, is a goddess in my book. Fair prices, squuuueeeeeezeed me in last minute and still got EXCELLENT service, willing to do whatever it takes for my baby, holding the hand of neurotic me..... Awful customer service and veterinary care. I've been to this vet previously and was never impressed, but it was convenient and my mom liked them, so I continued to come here. Most recently, I brought my cat in for a routine exam and to discuss a teeth cleaning. The day of my appointment, I showed up to have them tell me that the doctor was in surgery and would be hours longer. I'm not sure why they couldn't have figured out 10 minutes prior that the doctor wouldn't be available and called me, but I tried to be understanding and let it go. I was given the option to leave my cat there or return with her later. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and opted to leave my cat there, trusting them to do an exam when it was convenient for them. I returned later in the day to pick my cat up and without discussing anything with me, they just said they would call me to schedule a dental appointment. I tried to squeeze a few questions in, confirming that she had actually had an exam. I asked her weight and confirmed that she does, in fact, need a teeth cleaning. Two days later, she had her cleaning and I noticed very soon after that she was flapping her ears. She didn't seem like she was in any pain or immense discomfort, so I hoped that it would resolve itself. I've been incredibly busy the past few weeks, so I've been unable to get back in touch with the clinic. When I finally called, I spoke with Millie and explained this to her. I asked about bringing my cat back in for a quick ear inspection, as I'm not sure how she could have developed symptoms so quickly after being there. Millie told me that I could come back, but I would be charged. I asked my mom to inspect my cat's ears and we found them to be very, very dirty. They were full of black junk. I called again today and spoke to Denise. I explained what had happened and she immediately got defensive. She told me that a teeth cleaning has nothing to do with my cat's ears. I explained that I'm aware of that, but it DOES have something to do with the supposed exam she had that I wasn't present for. I cannot conceive how my cat could have developed this kind of ear problem so quickly, if her ears had actually been examined recently. Denise proceeded to raise her voice at me and tell me that I can come in, but I'll have to pay. No, thank you. I will go somewhere else. I'm incredibly disappointed that they were not willing to give me the same consideration and understanding that I had given them. My mom and I have been coming to this clinic for years, so I am clearly not trying to take advantage of them. I advise people to choose a more caring clinic for their animals and I hope that they treat their patrons with more respect in the future. read more

I have read quite a few reviews. Both good and bad. The good all refer to Dr. Pyne. He was a wonderful compassionate man, and one would be hard pressed to find a better vet anywhere. Unfortunately, he has been dead for many years. He was an excellent surgeon and saved many lives. Emergencies were welcome and handled with expediency and professionalism. I am sure the different vet you see each time you take your animal in simply doesn't have the knowledge or skills to save animals in emergency situations and thus should not even be considered. Berating the staff, whom are just doing their jobs and are not vets themselves, does little good. We all miss Dr Pyne. The animal hospital is fine for routine exams and non-emergency visits. To all whom lost their beloved pets I am sorry. Fallbrook Animal Hospital is not and has never been an emergency clinic. You don't take a dying man to a doctor's office. You take him to a Hospital Emergency Room. The same goes for animals. read more

I brought my 15 year old yellow Lab here from a referral from a really good friend of mine who uses these guys quite a bit. I have to say... very impressed with their hands on approach... And follow up. I drive up from Fallbrook from San Marcos... But it's worth it. Awesome old school Country Vet. Very very compassionate. I will bring all of my animals here from now on as long as I live in San Diego. Definitely referral this vet to anybody I know. Had a bit of an emergency the morning after my Birthday, when my 10 week old puppy, Sof, tried to steal his father's (Uri) favorite ball away. Uri tore Sof's lower lip away from the gum and required sutures between the teeth and gum to hold it in place. With in minutes they had him prepped, and on the table receiving his first and hopefully only face lift. Friendly caring staff, nice people, and Doc' King did a fast and steadfast job. Let me begin by saying that our dog did not see a veterinarian here, so this is not a review of the quality of the doctor's work. I was visiting in the area and took my dogs to a park, and one of them was bitten on the paw by a red ant. She was clearly in quite a bit of pain, so I called the closest hospital for some advice. They said they were very busy and could not see her until the next day. I realize that that hospital does not do emergency services, but the ER was father away and we were not familiar with the area. I think they could have had someone look at my dog and let me know that she was not dying. Fortunately, Fallbrook Animal Hospital did just that. The vet tech looked at the paw and recommended Benadryl, and she even weighed my dog so she could tell us how much medicine to administer. Even though they were soon closing for the day, she took a few minutes to help us, and I really appreciated that. And my dog is fine now! Thank you! read more

I never write bad reviews. Ever. It's positive experiences that motivate me. Not today. The veterinary here is superb. She is professional, efficient and very kind. I am sitting here stupidly with angry tears ready to burst at the way I was treated by the lady in the front office. I called to get one of my Goddaughter's cats into the vet to treat worms. I was convinced that I needed to bring all four cats in to first treat the fleas and a follow up for the worms. Okay. So I took the appointment for 10:30. I know it was 10:30 because I wrote it down and texted the day and time to my goddaughter as soon as I got off the phone. So I go into work early with only 2 hours sleep so that I can get this taken care of. I don't have free time. Everything is rushed and chaotic as I work and am taking care of my mom who is bedridden and has dementia. When I get to my Goddaughter's house, I find that she is sick in bed so I am on my own. In the end, I was only able to nab the sickest cat and would have gotten to my appointment maybe a minute late, if that. They called me at 10:27 and asked me if I was coming. I said yes but I only had one cat with me. He said they waited for me but the dr couldn't wait and had to go into surgery. I said, that I thought my appointment was at 10:30. He said, yes, that is why they ask that we come 5 minutes early. No one has every told me to come 5 minutes early. I am not happy. What I went through to get this Poor cat to his appointment. . . . . . . . . . . ghads! So I think, maybe I can just go in and ask for the flea medicine to get him started. So I went in and waited for the lady at the front desk to finish with the customer in front of me. Then I waited for her to finish up paperwork from that customer. All good. Then, after being prompted by a vet assistant, who had come out to talk to her, she asked me what I needed. All good. Normal. So I asked her If it was possible to get flea meds. She started to tell me that they could do that if my pet was seen within the last year. Somehow she intuited that I was the person that had the appointment for the 4 cats. She says, Oh, you are the person who made the appointment for 4 cats" and then tacks on loudly under her breath (if that is possible) "HOW RUDE". (Apparently I didn't show up for my appointment) I am like what? Excuse me? "I am here". She shoots back at me, " your appointment was for 10:20" and I say that it was for 10:30. And she says, "okay, let's say it was supposed to be at 10:20", she looks at the time on the computer and says with a loud accusing voice, "It's 10:33!" I'm flabbergasted. Remember, I waited at least 2 minutes patiently when I came in to ask for the meds. Add to that the time we did the back and forth and I am willing to say that I was exactly on time. The time I was told over the phone anyway. The time I wrote down and texted to my Goddaughter. So I tell her that I was one minute late. And she wants to know what it is that I want at this point and I say, "nothing" and walk out. I only went in to ask if It was possible to get flea meds. A simple no and reschedule would have been, not happy making and a little frustrating, but acceptable. The way I was treated was so unexpected and felt like i was personally attacked. Just recently my father was in a life-altering car accident and they took Zoey in on very short notice. They gave her a flea bath, much needed shots and flea meds as a gift to our grieving family. I boarded my 2 cats for 6 days at the lodge attached to the hospital. My cats were able to get discounted vaccines before being boarded. Cats have their own room away from dogs. This room can accommodate about 8 cats, which isn't great if your cats don't enjoy the smell of other cats. Mine aren't too fond of other cats, luckily there weren't any other cats being boarded during that week. The cats were able to be let out of their condos and roam the entire room from 8am-5pm. The staff appeared to be attentive and were helpful in paying attention to my cat's needs. The room they were staying in was kept cool with a fan and I believe they have a/c, but not sure. I would use them again if they weren't booked with other cats due to my cats sensitivity to other animals being in close proximity. The other great thing about this lodge is that if you pick up your pet before 12pm they won't charge you for that day. read more

I have been bringing my pets here for the past couple years and have always had a great experience. Until today...I brought my 1 year American Bulldog for his shots and annual check up. Not only did I wait in the waiting room for 45 minutes past my appt time but when I finally made it back to see the Vet he was far from friendly. My dog was put onto the table and held down aggressively by two men while the Vet examined him. After the exam the Vet "Gary" sat in his chair writing and asked me if I had any questions. Gary has No "bedside manners" he was not friendly at all! My dog is a family dog and very friendly with people kids and even other animals. I did not leave there feeling good about the situation. The gal up front has always been great but I will not allow anyone to treat my "family/dog" the way he was treated! read more

Now that I have seen Dr Laubach more, the less I am impressed. He treats you like an inferior, unlike Dr Pyne (RIP) who was wonderful to owner and pet. I brought my dog in for vomiting and got a 5 minute lecture on not feeding human food to my pet. I never feed him anything I would not eat myself and he loves veggies and fruits. He also based his diagnosis on verbal info only. No exam other that what the techs gave. I am very disappointed. It seems like he is there for the paycheck only, not the animals welfare. What a difference a doc makes :( I think I will have to find another vet. read more

Dr. Pyne is an amazing veterinarian. Very kind, reasonable when it comes to unnecessary costs and procedures (unlike many other vets in Fallbrook), and extremely knowledgeable. His main vet nurse/ receptionist on the other hand is a horrible bitch. We have been patients of Dr. Pynes for 20+ years, yet recently when my dog was hit by a car right after I got home from work, I called to let them know I would need to come in and have my little dog put down. It was apparent his lower half was crushed w/ little hope anything could be done. I was told by her to go to the Temecula Emergency Vet Hospital, since their office was near closing and "I just didn't understand what kind of crazy day they'd had." Crazy day? Try coming home from a ten hour day at work, only for your dog to dash out the door and get smashed by a car right in front of your eyes! When I requested to speak directly with Dr. Pyne, who has come into the office on weekends and the middle of the night for emergency type situations we've experienced in the past, she flat out refused. I ended up driving to Temecula with a bleeding dog on my lap, only to find the place she had sent me did not open for another 45 minutes. It was a horrible experience to say the least, the worst of which solely rests on her shoulders. I have worked for vets, I know what kind of minimal procedure euthanizing a dog is- absolutely terrible customer service. I have encountered several people recently who have shared their vet horror stories with me and, not to much surprise, they all involve the same woman! Dr. Pyne is awesome, I highly recommend him- just try to avoid the witch behind the counter! read more

I'm usually not big on writing reviews I always just read them. But after my experience here I have to tell others. My dog had a reaction to a vaccine and I had to take her back in a week later. I was dreading going just knowing it was probably going to be a $300+ bill but knowing my pup needed the help. But what happened instead completely blew my mind. They didn't charge me at all. All they cared about was getting my pup healthy. I have been to so many vets in the past that take advantage of you throwing a massive bill $$$$ saying this is what your pet needs to feel better. Which of course your pet being your family you just feel like saying well whatever it's take but knowing you don't have the money. So I just really appreciate them not taking advantage of me and correcting her reaction to the meds. I will recommend this place over and over again! read more

Called on Friday afternoon around 3:45 PM asking if they could help my dog who was recently bitten by a Rattlesnake. The lady put my on hold then quickly returned with "Sorry, we close at 5PM." and referred me to a location in San Marcos. We live in the middle of De luz and had already spent 20 minutes getting into town, time is of the essence with these kinds of situations. Bullsh**. On a lighter note, after calling Fallbrook Animal Hospital and being TURNED DOWN, we ended up calling Avocado Animal Hospital and they had no problem taking our dog in. I also had a terrible experience with the haughty woman up front who tried to degrade me with her superiority regarding my pet. I told her I was afraid of fixing my dog who had always been so fragile and sickly and she exclaimed that they were the authorities and should defer to their opinion, as if my 10 years of owning a dog with compromised health accounted for nothing. whew I ran out of that place never to return. read more

If you love your pet, don't take them to Gary! I have been going to Fallbrook Animal Hospital since 2010 but once Dr Pyne passed away the quality of care went down hill. Gary does not seem to take that extra step in caring for you pet. I took my baby in because she was showing signs that something was very wrong with her......Gary had the tech take her blood and stick a needle in her belly to get the urine.....which was very painful. I am not sure why they use this method when you can take them outside and use a scooper to collect the urine. The next day Gary called to tell me what he thought it was and said we could check her blood work in a month or two. My baby had lost 6lbs and wasn't eating and he wants to check in a month or two! He also didn't agree on how I fed my baby and also proceeded to put people down (but said he wasn't talking about me) who don't follow his way of thinking on how to feed their pets and he only believes in prescription diet and said it is the only food people should feed their pet because it has been on the shelf for 30 years! A lot things have been on the shelf for 30 years, doesn't always mean they are good! I took her back a week later to have her blood drawn again and check the levels that were high but this time met with Dr. King, who is a good Doctor. Her levels were even higher and she had lost another 6 lbs! I decided to find a new Vet since I wasn't comfortable keeping her at the place any longer. My new vet requested her file but Gary wouldn't release it!! Also, Gary was completely off on what he guessed and based on her blood work, he should of known what was going on but like I said, he doesn't care!! read more

Took my 10 month old dog into this vet on Tuesday last week. At first they didn't want to take as because our appointment wasn't for a couple of hours but she was visibly dying. They weren't that busy and other people walked in as well. We told them we thought our dog had gotten into our neighbor's squirrel poison. They told us she wasn't poisoned because her gums weren't dried out. They put her one fluid because she "must have eaten something she didn't like" and they kept her there for a few hours. $600 later we are rushing her to a night clinic in temecula because she wasn't responding or moving any part of her body, even her eyes. Turns out she was poisoned and we ended up having to put her down Wednesday of last week. We contacted them the next day just to let them know that we wouldn't be back for her blood results because we put her down and the front desk person said "we know. We got the fax." No I'm sorry, or my condolences. Nothing. She was 10 months old. If we had taken her to a different vet instead of this place that always takes our money, maybe she would still be here. read more

Today my husband took our dog who was just hit by a car at 0730 to this vet hospital. The receptionist said that "they don't open until 8"", and that they don't treat Emergency cases." It says in their site that they do and that they have a staff ready. She told him the closest one was in Temecula but we found the one in Oceanside. My husband drove all the way to Oceanside down a busy 76 to save him where he died a few minutes later. My husband was in traffic for 30 mins after he left Fallbrook Animal Hospital. So please if your animal needs help before 8 don't go there. We lost our buddy "Hondo" today. read more

I'm very happy with the prompt, kind, friendly, and educational appointment I had for my cat today. I called for an appointment and got one immediately. Veterinarian Dr Ann King examined my cat and explained everything in detail. She has a wonderful bedside manner and I felt very comfortable with her recommendations. I watched my cat receive treatment for a fever of unknown reasons, Subcutaneous fluids and antibiotic injection while it was all explained to me. Hopefully my cat responds well! Our dogs are not the easiest to treat---they both pitch a terrible fit when they leave their farm surroundings, and cry and fuss the whole time they are at the vet's office. Horrible customer service. The receptionist was very rude to me and I hope she sees this so she can get a serious attitude adjustment. I absolutely had to take the time to write a review about this place because of my experience. I went in to see if they carried a topical flea medication called Activyl. (Side not, it's amazing stuff) I asked the receptionist if she carried it. She very rudely responded "I've worked in this business for 11 years and I've never heard of that." Okay I work in customer service and maybe it's just me, but I would never respond to a customer's question like that. I would simply say no we don't carry it and ask what it is. I would then maybe say I've never heard of it. But it was just the way she said it. But that response didn't even really trigger to me that it was rude until the next thing she said. I responded with "oh well it's definitely the best topical product on the market right now Id look it up" that kind of sounds like it would be rude but in no way did I say it in a rude tone. She responded with "well that's your own opinion." Absolutely floored me. I know it was short, but I had to write a review. read more

Everyone here is great. Totally helpful. I adopted a cat and when I got her home, she caught a little cold. The doctor was friendly and didn't treat me like an idiot for bringing my cat in because she was sneezing. I asked if they could trim her claws while we were there and they did it without charging me for it. The one issue that I have is that I called to inquire about a high frequency chip and the lady on the phone said that they didn't have them. When I told the lady behind the counter about having to take my cat to another vet to get the chip, she said that they do have them and quoted me a price. You can walk in to get chips without an appointment. read more

If you value your pet, stay away. Two weeks of misdiagnosis - including costs of expensive medicine & Xrays - and my cat had exactly what I told them he had: A blade of grass up his nose. So poor cat was sneezing and coughing for TWO BLOODY WEEKS - and being fed medicine he didn't need. Finally...cat sneezed out a part of the grass - and I pulled out the remaining blade. Add to that the 'Vet' never - I mean NEVER - looked me in the eye as he was mis-diagnosing my cat. Not once. And, a week later, when I was in the waiting room, he passed by - looked at me - and not so much as a 'hello'...never mind 'how is your cat doing? Anti-social...poorly trained, it seems...should NEVER be working face-to-face with people, never mind helpless animals. Can't believe how he's ruined Dr. Pyne's thriving practice.
