MUST READ REVIEW. George Small replaced our driveway in October 2024. After his crew demolished our long driveway, he told us it would cost an extra $2000 for more gravel (see Tony C. review a year ago-same thing). We had no choice so we paid the ransom. Eight months later the driveway is failing. I call him and he comes and looks at it and blames delivery trucks but because I am "nice" he will come and fix it. He spray paints my driveway (nice touch) and says his crew will come and fix it. That was a year ago and I haven't seen him since. I called the number one asphalt company in Loudoun county about sealing all the cracks and dealing with an area that has sunk and sadly it's going to cost me plenty. Called FCP looking for a repair estimate for root damage on my driveway. Jeff responded promptly and we discussed options in a low key, no pressure way. As the driveway surface was over 20 years old, I decided to completely resurface and got a good price from FCP which included removal of a tree and the offending root. The crew showed up on time and were very professional, you could tell this wasn't their first rodeo! The job was completed in short order, looks great and the crew cleaned the site completely. I had a great experience with Falls Church Paving. Our front porch was leaking water underneath the flagstone and it ended up causing issues with our basement. As the old porch was demolished, additional complexities were progressively revealed and ended up making the job more difficult than originally anticipated. George is the most responsive contractor I've ever had the pleasure to work with. He always took my phone calls or promptly called me back if I couldn't reach him. We were able to eventually round up four quotes over the course of six weeks. A lot of non-returned phone messages and less than professional no shows. Falls Church paving was the first quote we received. They only followed up once and were respectfully patient. When I contacted them a month later, the estimator made himself available to meet us. He showed up with the owner on time (early) and knocked on the door at the appropriate hour. The owner and the estimator were very polite, personable and professional. They showed up the day they said they would and finished on time as well. The crew was well trained and respectful as well. I cannot praise them enough. We did have perfect weather so that helped. Even if it had dragged out another day or so, the company was courteous and professional. More importantly, they did a great job. We got the product we paid for and then some. read more

UPDATE: After I posted my review (a summary is below) I was contacted by George. He made a significant effort to put things right. I'm very impressed by that - he stands behind his work and, while everything may not run perfectly smoothly, he does take the initiative to address issues. Given that, I'm raising my rating from 2 stars to 4 stars. SUMMARY OF ORIGINAL REVIEW: Their scheduling is haphazard at best. I had the job scheduled for Sat AM, but received a call from the owner (George) on Friday night who said the job had to be changed to Tues since other jobs were weather delayed. That was fine, but they just showed up on Sat afternoon anyway without any notice or call. During the removal a void was found where the driveway meets the garage. George wanted $1,000 additional to deal with it, stating that a lot of additional material would be needed. After I balked at that increase (which was a nearly 30% increase over the bid price) he lowered it to a $500 increase. Nothing was done to the driveway base - no additional gravel was placed even though the base that the builder put in 35 years ago didn't seem all that great. Due to that I have doubts the new driveway will last as long as it should given the lack of attention to the base. The rolling process was not done all that carefully, leaving some small but noticeable ridges and dips, especially near the end of the driveway. It won't interfere with use, but it will come into play when I have to shovel snow. After completing the job they left all their heavy equipment parked on the street from Sat until Monday morning. My neighbors were not happy with that, nor was I ever told that they would be leaving their equipment (which leaked oil over the street while sitting there for 1.5 days). read more

Just had a great experience with Falls Church Paving. Several of the families in our neighborhood needed to have our driveways replaced. Falls Church Paving gave us a great price, and George Small, the president, came out to discuss the job with all of us on a Wednesday. On Saturday George's team was here in the morning as promised. They tore out our old driveway, put down a new gravel base, re-asphalted, rolled and hand shaped the edges. George, himself, ran the paver. I made the mistake of signing a contract to pave over the existing driveway with someone that came up to my house saying he would give us a deal since he was doing other driveways in the neighborhood. After seeing their prep work, I knew that they weren't going to do a good job and called Falls Church Paving to get a quote and ask some questions. The owner, George Small, called me back and was great to talk to. He took the time to answer any questions I had about the process and I managed to get rid of the other guys. Then George came in and gave me a great price for removing the top layers driveway and putting down a new one that was much lower than the last guy would have charged for the same job. Our driveway had been neglected for too long, and I called Falls Church Paving based on the recommendations of the neighbors on our immediate right and left, both who had used FCP for their own driveways. The day after we called, the owner himself, George Small came to write the estimate in person. My wife and I were impressed with his presentation, as well as the number of years that FCP had been in business. (I think he said they had just celebrated their 50th anniversary, as the company was started by his grandfather.) We knew the job would be expensive, as the entire old driveway needed to be demolished, regraded, and relayed with stone and asphalt. But George's bid was very competitive, and he sweetened the pot by agreeing to fill in and seal the eroded area under our garage and under our front stoop, level off the drive so that we could better use it to shoot hoops, and return in the fall with a free seal. His crew arrived the next day with all their heavy equipment, and the new driveway looked great. But the reason I gave FCP five stars was because of what happened afterwards. When the drive was set, we realized that the top of the driveway hadn't been leveled out at all for the basketball hoop. We called George, and he returned to look at it himself. He apologized and said he would return with the crew to make things right. I expected them to perhaps slap some more asphalt on the top and call it a day. Instead, they returned, dug it all up and repaved it from scratch. It took them a while and had to have cost George more than what we were charged. I am an eBay seller, and some of my best feedback comments have come from people whose orders I've made a mistake on. They were impressed by the way that I made things right after the error. George Small gave us his word that he would make things right, and he did in spades. Both my wife and I were impressed with the end result and with FCP's professionalism and the owner's attention to detail and customer service. The only thing they haven't yet done is the free seal, which won't be needed until the fall. But given what we've seen thus far, I have no reason to think that they won't make good on that, too, and I have no reservations about writing a wholehearted recommendation at this time. read more

From the beginning, the owner George reached out and was involved. His right-hand man, Jeff, was professional and prompt with all communication and was instrumental in putting together our project. The work done was in January and due to weather conditions the quality of the driveway wasn't great. George promised to fix it and he did. They did a good job (just look at the photos I uploaded). The work was done in March, and two months later I'm still very happy with the new driveway surface. At least one neighbor has admitted envy more than once. It took well over a month after the job was done to get any type of documentation, with repeated requests, but I finally got a receipt (now I can get reimbursed half from the other home owner). The original work was rescheduled last minute due to rain even though I was promised weather would not cause delays. So, the quality of product is excellent while scheduling and administrative functions, in my case, fall short of perfect. I still give them four out of five stars and offer my recommendation. Yelp keeps putting this review in the not recommended category. I must assume the reason is it's the only review I ever wrote here, but I was happy enough with the job to sign up and talk about it. read more

George and the rest of his crew at Falls Church Paving did an outstanding job widening and repaving our asphalt driveway. This was not an easy job and included a large retaining wall. The wall itself was built out of pressure-treated lumber and is 30 or so feet long and 3 feet tall at it's tallest. The wall and the driveway are straight and true and look great! George went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with our driveway! That included returning after the project was complete to dig out a drainage ditch adjacent to the driveway that had silted up over the years. Probably the best review is if someone tried your service once and then uses it again. Falls Church Paving did two jobs for me. The first job was resurfacing a driveway and resolving a run-off problem. That went very well. The second job, at another property, was adding a parking pad off an existing driveway. Due to damage to our driveway by Red Carpet Remodeling when shingles were delivered, Red Carpet contracted with Falls Church Paving to do the repair. Rather than cutting out the damaged area and applying hot asphalt, they applied a cold patch and then did a piss poor job tamping it down. They left two obvious patches without doing any tapering with crack filler and when it was pointed out to the paver he was extremely rude and refused to do any corrections. Fortunately we weren't paying them and I can assure every reader, I would never contract with company on my own. read more

Took a month to return call. Came out and gave a high estimate. I selected them based on reviews I had read. They did the job right away. I let the sealer dry and them called George and asked him to look at the work. He said he would be out the next week. It's been a month - no George. Wanted to get an asphalt driveway and a concrete apron. Had to flatten a slope and work around a sidewalk. They sent out an estimator a few days after contact. Was quoted at $6,000. However, George (the owner) came out a week later and quoted me at $7,000. They came out the next day to dig out the slope. Unfortunately, there was a delay but they were able to come back Monday (3 days later) and finished the job. The work was done incredibly well. In the end, you pay for quality and this company really knows what they're doing. The only bumps were not having it done sooner and the price increase. I was looking for a company to repave our asphalt driveway and had George bid on it. He followed up and was very polite. I had three other bids and George beat them all. His son brought a crew in during the spring and did a very professional job. In the fall he stopped back and offered to seal the driveway with a petroleum based sealer. My neighbor and I used this company and had nothing but problems. We took at the grassy medium that separated our driveways and put in pavers instead. They knew we were going to do this and agreed to come back and add additional tar so that it butted up to the pavers. Repeated calls went unanswered. Then, we had plant growth in our driveway creating mounds in it. After more repeated calls to the office and the owner, they finally came out. The owner was very remorseful and offered to fix the issue, bring more tar to butt up against the pavers and said for our trouble, he would give us a free sealing of our driveways. Again, despite repeated calls, he has not fulfilled his promise. I would never use this company again and if you decide to, I would recommend you proceed with extreme caution. read more

I called several company's to come out and give me estimates to repave my entire driveway and, also extend it a few feet in certain areas. I have a long, winding driveway and it was in desperate need of having the entire thing repaved, lots of cracks and, uneven pavement. George, the owner came out and, gave me a very fair estimate and seemed very knowledgeable to get the best outcome - complete opposite of other company's. His crew came out and, his son oversaw the project. He made sure everything was done perfectly. Chose Falls Church Paving because 1) they're local and 2) they did my neighbor's driveway and it looked (and continues to look) great. They did a fantastic job.
