On February 1st, we finally had the time to visit, Famiglia - a restaurant we have been wanting to visit for a while. It is a family-friendly and budget-friendly Italian restaurant. We ordered a very nice appetizer then the main dish - STROMBOLI! Stromboli is a type of baked turnover filled with various Italian cheeses and meats! Our Stromboli was filled with cold-cut meats and mushrooms. I mean huge mushrooms! Both dishes were delicious, healthy, and filling! Stay as far away from this garbage as possible; ordered Steak Alfredo special - I was brought a bowl full of fettuccine filled with milk - no, not Alfredo, literally milk. It was sooooo nasty; and what I failed to understand was between the kitchen and waitstaff how something so disgusting could end up on a table...I noticed a table near me ordered the same special, and watched as it was also sent back. Decided to go with Eggplant Parm - literally greasy, DEEP FRIED eggplant in some kind of nasty tomato ketchup sauce. Absolutely inedible. As we were leaving, we noticed the 'Help Wanted Kitchen Staff' by the front door. Says it all. This was beyond a disappointment; the owners should be ashamed of themselves for letting food this bad make it to tables! We are NEVER, EVER getting back together. read more

We eat here quite often as the food is always great and the service is also very good! The presentation of the food is also very good! The Penne Alla Vodka is excellent! I have had it several times and it is consistently very good! The meat Lasagna is also very good! We have had many other sekk look sections from their menu over the years and have never been disappointed. The staff is very friendly and does a great job! Finally made it to La Famiglia tonight. Oh so good! Hubby had shrimp scampi, I had the squash ravioli w Alfredo sauce and these are the delicious garlic knots served with our dinner. We also each had a side salad; him Caesar and me side garden with their homemade blue cheese. We also had the stuffed mushrooms but had scarfed them down before I thought to take a picture. They were really busy and very short handed, but our experience was exceptional! read more

This spot was EXCELLENT FOR DINNER. I LOVED THE SERVICE AND FOOD. The inside is a WONDERFUL Italian decor. There are pictures of Italy. The server was VERY HOSPITABLE. So hubs and I first walked in here 4 years ago to find they had recently opened. We were planning on moving to Greenville from PA. We actually got pizza, sat at the bar and talked to the lovely owner. Pizza was great btw! We did move, but to Walstonburg, and recently, permanently to Ayden, so we finally made it back for dinner last week and have to say if you have a negative review, something is wrong on your end. Staff was awful. Was seated in the back with a bunch of other families, really loud. Asked to move to a quiet spot. Dirty restaurant overall. Ordered a $7 house salad and had mold on my tomatoes. Told the waiter and all he said was "oh" and awkwardly took my plate back. Didn't apologize, didn't make a new plate, or offer to take it off my bill. They charged us for a salad I didn't eat. So disappointed that no one approached us to apologize or take it off our bill. I'm one of those people that would pay my bill regardless, but you're dang sure I didn't leave a tip. And I leave reviews to make sure people don't go there and eat what I just got served. read more

Disclaimer: This was a take-out order. We decided to try Famiglia because we wanted to support a locally owned establishment. When I called, Steven answered and was very helpful with ordering. Fast forward, Steven was also very nice along with the other staff when we picked our order up. The restaurant seems cozy with a nice dining and bar area. The bar has 2 TVs and what appeared to be a full service bar with a local selection of beers. Based on everything above we were off to a great start. We ordered the famiglia sampler, shrimp scampi and chicken marsala. We were not hungry enough to try the pizza or any other specials. The Sampler ($13.00) had potato croquettes, mozzarella wedges, meatballs and what appeared to be fried cheese perogies. There was no calamari. I will admit the homemade meatballs were really good!! The potato croquettes were also good. Shrimp Scampi ($17.00): The shrimp were great, perfectly cooked. The spaghetti was covered in a wine sauce that was watered down. Chicken Marsala ($18.00): The lightly breaded cutlet (this was a very thin cut chicken breast) was nicely prepared. Again this wine sauce was disappointing. The sauce in an Italian dish is the reason you go to an Italian place...the first taste should make you think someone's grandma from NY or NJ (we can argue about the location, just speaking from experience) spent hours in kitchen preparing it with love. I've been here a few times for brunch and went for the first time yesterday for lunch/dinner. We had a reservation for 10, in which they weren't ready for due to a mix up. Absolutely no big deal. We were still seated fairly quickly and waited for the rest of our party to arrive. Our waitress was absolutely perfect but some communication would have been appreciated. At the time we ordered, we were the only ones in the dining room. 2 tables were seated about 25-35 minutes after we ordered. It took quite a while to get our food and after inquiring we were told the cook was out doing deliveries. He had returned but was backed up. (Not sure how many were seated at the bar but again, when we ordered no one else was in the dining room). We are also informed that due to the mix up, they were not prepared for a party of 10. If it was crowded, ok but a party of 10 could have easily been smaller groups...it seemed like they were completely unprepared for dinner service all together. No fault at all of our waitress, she brought out the food and other items as fast as possible. Other obligations are fine but the chef shouldn't be the one making deliveries when guests are in the building waiting for food. I do think I prefer brunch as the food for dinner was a bit bland (for the pasta options, 3 of us had it). The croquettes were tasty. Other guests had the toasted ravioli, calamari, flounder meal, and hoagie meals...they seemed to enjoy it. Also had a few cocktails that took over 15 minutes to come out each time one was ordered...but they were decent tasting drinks. It's also worth nothing for other guests information, there is automatic 20% gratuity added (assuming for party sizes over 6) and there is a sign posted that outside deserts incur a cake cutting fee of $1 per person. I think if I return, it will be for brunch or maybe on a day that they are adequately staffed. read more

Umm.. not sure if this is as good as people make it to be! Yes, they have a wide array of comfort Italian food with pizza, pasta and a pretty nice dessert menu. However, they just haven't done justice to the true, authentic Italian food that you would get elsewhere. I ordered the shrimp scampi and it was just too watery which made it taste super bland. Our group ordered meat lasagna, eggplant parmesan, chicken Parmesan with penne a la vodka and chicken fettuccine Alfredo and no one thought it was great food. If they want to stay in business for a longer time, they are gonna have to offer a better and unique food palatte that people can enjoy with friends and family. Food was fine. Wait staff very attentive but their social distancing was terrible. Walked in to a fully occupied bar. They attempted to seat us right beside others with no tables set aside (or clearly marked as Not for Use). Not quite sure how to review this restaurant. First of all my husband loves the seafood pasta dish with mussels, clams, shrimp. I tried it and it is very tasty. My daughter loves the meatballs. I had the lasagna. It was okay I have had better. We all love the garlic knots. However their pizza is horrible which is very disappointing and surprising for an Italian restaurant. It is paper thin, soggy, the edge is dry and is like eating cardboard. You would think if they truly make their garlic knots the dough for the pizza would be equally as tasty. This was our second time trying it (hoping the first time was just a bad cook day), but not the case. Just as bad the second time as the first time so needless to say will never order pizza from there again. Atmosphere is nothing fancy. Very open room with Italian pictures. The bar was very busy. It is in a smaller quaint area separated from the main dining. We had good service. Will go back for certain dishes but definitely not the pizza. read more

The absolute worst. If there was a way to rate something ZERO stars I would. We didnt want to come here but because many restaurants close early on Sunday's we ended up here. There was nobody in the place and I found it funny for an Italian place there was nothing Italian about it no cheese or olive oil on any of the tables. I ordered a salad and an eggplant calzone, my friends ordered a small white pie and a pasta primavera. Wow was this crazy, the white pie came our with instead of Alfredo sauce of all things ricotta cheese, something I had never scene before. Then they brought out my calzone which had ham that I didnt order, it was half cooked, the cheese hadnt melted all the way and for the life of me I couldnt find the small chopped eggplant, yuck. The primavera came out with red sauce something I had never seen before either, of course the salad came out as the same time of the calzone and it had wishbone Italian dressing with it. At this point I wanted to file suit for false advertising this place as Italian, it was an affront to everything and everyone Italian. Seems by the other bad reviews I wasnt the only one that had this epically bad experience. Waited about 10 minutes just to be acknowledged, then were seated behind a group that arrived after us. It took an hour and 15 minutes to get our entrees and our request for bread was ignored. Overall, food was decent but not worth the price or the wait. read more

I have eaten here several times and have yet to be disappointed. I have gotten the Chicken Marsala, and manicotti in the past. Complimentary bread is of good quality. Food always tastes freshService has always been good and friendly although sometimes a bit slow but no major issues at all. The atmosphere is pretty laid back. You can be comfortable in shorts and a T-shirt or something nicer. It can get a bit cool in the restaurant. I would recommend this as a very good (better) local alternative to Olive Garden read more

No seasoning whatsoever. Meat in lasagna tasted disgusting. No quality. The garlic knots were so hard we couldn't even take a bite out of them. $32 completely wasted. NOT MADE IN HOUSE!!! Do not trust La familia. Their deserts are from Fresh Market and FULL of preservatives and chemicals. Totally dishonest. Both me and my wife asked on two separate occasions (four times) if the tiramisu and tuxedo cake were actually homemade and made on house. We were LIED to on all occasions. You can find the EXACT same tiramisu and tuxedo cake with a huge list of crap ingredients, from Fresh Market. It looks and taste the exact same. I will NEVER trust this place again. I feel like I was robbed and poisoned. Who knows what else they put in their "food" or where they buy it from. I don't think I could be any more digested with this place. They should be ashamed of themselves. FYI we spoke and asked the owner about who made the deserts because I was so surprised that it was made in house. I usually don't trust restaurants in Greenville for this exact reason and was surprised that it tasted this good and wasn't full of chemicals used to fool my tastes buds into thinking it was actually quality food. I was very excited when Famiglia opened up right near where I live. Unfortunately, it's over-priced and mediocre food. Their pizza is average, not rising to the level of Mirabella's, but charging a similar price. The eggplant parmigiana was not cooked enough. The 'meat' of the eggplant was tough and mealy. And for what you receive, their simple salads are far too pricey. Plus you have to pay extra for meat on the anti-pasta salad. Do they not understand understand what anti-pasta is? Only benefit: At lunch they have one-topping slices for $2.50. Go in, grab a couple of slices for $5, and you won't be disappointed. Start to stray on the menu and disappointment is exactly what you will find. read more

I have eaten here about 6 times now and each time it has been great. I have been here for lunch and had the pizza buffet, once for Sunday Brunch and a few times for dinner. The wait staff and hostesses have been very accommodating, as well as professional. The food is excellent, no one in my parties has ever complained. We have tried many different items, but my favorite is their meatballs. I recently found out that the recipe is the chef's grandmother's and it is wonderful. Also the carrot cake is amazing, so light and refreshing. We will continue to patronize their business. Keep up the good work. read more

The calamari is probably the worst I've ever had. 0 seasoning and it was super bland and it was served with ranch. You can tell it's fake Italian when they serve ranch with the calamari. I got the shrimp scampi which was bland and tasteless. I couldn't even eat the shrimp because they were so bad. Threw out the entire plate. My wife ordered a steak and mashed potatoes. The steak came out great and was seasoned well. The mashed potatoes were instant potatoes. It's not hard to make mashed potatoes guys come on. For a $80 check it tasted like it should have been $25. So, the Environment is nice and staff is too, but the food was bland. I ordered the white sauce clams took two bites, it tasted like water and clam juice for a whopping 17 dollars, I told them I didn't like it and then they brought me the seafood special as the picture shows. Same problem very bland but they did give it to me for the same price. I think the idea is great but the entrees are not there. If you are looking for authentic Italian food I would recommend Nino's. This was our first time here, I hate we waited so long as the food and service was excellent. Nice inside but not to fancy that you couldn't wear a t-shirt. I would recommend the wings for an appetizer and their cannoli for dessert. The sweet chili wings were perfect and worth the little bit longer wait. My wife and I have eaten at Famiglia at least a dozen times and have always been pleased with the food and service. They have changed the menu a little and I can no longer order the carbonara but it has caused me to try some of the other dishes, which have all been good. The salads have always been fresh. Wow, they did it again! We went out for our anniversary with our children tonight. (Belated) which was ok. Life happens when you are busy doing other things. I got the chicken piccata! It was fantastic! My wife got the fetachene Alfredo chicken that was out of this world. Our son got the veal Parmajon. We went out again tonight. August 2, 2019. We had such a delightful young waitress. Her name is Desire'e. What a ray of sunshine! What a nice young woman. She made great recommendations on wine, appetizers and dishes. Famiglia is a place I used to love. The lasagna was better than my dearly departed Italian uncle used to make, and that's saying something. I am not rich, so I don't go out often. That being said, when I do go out, I expect good service and food for my hard earned money. I will not return to a place that doesn't provide the services they're supposed to. Unfortunately, this seems to be the case with Famiglia. I had two bad experiences before I decided to write about it. The first time, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. I thought perhaps they were just having a bad day. I think it was in the afternoon at the end of last week that I went in. I sat at the bar, waiting to order my drink. The bartender sat behind the bar with her face focused on her laptop. She had it on top of the bar. After about five minutes, I spoke up and asked the woman if I could order a drink and look at the menu. (I always look at it even though I always end up ordering the lasagna.) She gave me a fake smile, said she was sorry, and turned her face back to her laptop! I was shocked at the levels of unprofessionalism, contempt, and classlessness I was witnessing. I politely excused myself and left. Yesterday, I went in again. It was a little later in the afternoon, maybe early evening. The same young lady was at the bar. This time, staring at her phone while sitting on a beer cooler. There were a couple other servers also at the bar and on their phones. I gave them as much respectful distance as I could. (It's a small bar.) Again, I sat waiting for someone to do their job. I focused on the wrench shaped sign that states, "You Can't Fix Stupid". Again, I asked the young lady behind the bar nicely if I might please have a menu and order my drink (I think her name was Brittany). While she meandered around collecting what I can only assume was what she felt she needed to take my order, she carried on joking and laughing with the other derelict staff. I ordered my favorite meal, the lasagna. Let me just say that I'm used to their lasagna being full, flavorful, and standing on the plate proudly with thick layers. You could slice through it like a thick hunk of meat. THIS was not that lasagna. My meal came out with the top half of the lasagna sliding off the top. The layers just appeared thinner overall. When I cut into it and took my first bite, it was hotter than ten hells. The second bite from the other side was ice cold. It was very clearly microwaved incorrectly. The marinara tasted very different as well. It was extra peppery and almost tasted as if someone had strained Spaghetti-O's, watered it down, and added it to the original sauce. Overall it was very thin, peppery, and unsatisfying. I couldn't even finish it. I decided to try and speak to the manager. Again, I fought for the bartender's attention. When she decided to finally come up to me, I asked her if I could please speak to the manager. At this point, she coldly looked at me and told me she IS the manager. This troubled me because I knew nothing would be done when at least part of my issues were with her. So, I asked her if there was anyone above her. At this point, she wasn't even bothering to hide her contempt when she told me the only one above her was the owner. When I asked if I could speak to him, she quickly told me in a (clearly) well rehearsed way that he wasn't there. I could see the lie. This restaurant seems to have begun its downward spiral. This is sad to me because it once had the potential to be the best Italian restaurant in Greenville. The only thing I keep thinking about now, is what kind of owner puts that kind of unprofessional raff in charge of the entire front of the house?? There are many places to spend your money in Greenville, my suggestion is you don't spend it here. Unless you have saintly patience and no taste buds. Two thumbs down. read more

Came with a friend for dinner around 4:30 on a Sunday. The place is casual. The garlic knots were good and the marinara is superb. It's obviously fresh. I ordered the tortellini famiglia, which was off the menu at the time but they still made it. I really enjoyed it. My friend ordered the shrimp alfredo but they brought her shrimp scampi. Upon pointing it out, the error was quickly corrected. The alfredo sauce was a little lackluster. It needed a bit more flavor but was okay. We ordered a cannoli to split for dessert and it was fantastic. The food was very good, especially for the price. The portions are big too. The only negative was the customer service. Our waiter was very monotone and I would have preferred that he seem a bit more upbeat. He got the first order wrong and mixed up our cards on the table. Nothing awful, just didn't go above and beyond to make us feel cared for in any way, which I think is important in a restaurant. Also, on the way out there was no one at the door until we were halfway out and someone ran up to shout "have a good night!" I would work on making the place feel a bit more personal. Do not eat here! My husband and I wanted to support a locally owned business so we decided on this Italian restaurant. Due to covid 19, we weren't sure if you could dine in so I attempted to call in our order. I called four times and no one answered. So, my husband says let's ride to the restaurant and see if they are open. We get inside the restaurant and stand at the door waiting to be acknowledged or greeted for 10 minutes. I then decide to call since we wanted to take our food home. As I am standing there about to dial the phone number I look up and make eye contact with a worker standing in the kitchen staring directly at me he doesn't motion to anyone that we are waiting to be helped. I look at my husband who shakes his head, because he already knows what is about to happen, I then proceed to call their phone number which I double checked on the menu. I call and wait to see if they will answer the phone and take our order. The bartender comes from the kitchen looks directly at the phone and walks off without answering it. I promptly turn on my heels and walk out the door. Now, I'm not an idiot I know when my business isn't wanted, because of the color of my skin. We(my husband and I were the only black people in the place), and I don't beg people to take my hard earned money. I go where I am celebrated not tolerated. read more

Stopped in late Friday night with my daughter and her friend. We were greeted by a sweet hostess who seated us, and our waitress was super. We had a large pizza(which was definitely too much food for us), and the girls ordered lasagna and chicken Parmesan. They finished their plates, and of course we only ate 2 pieces of pizza!
