Mayflower is consistently good food. Great prices and large portions for sharing or leftovers. They have some of the best wait staff as well! It has a very nautical theme which makes you feel you are at the coast. Baby shrimp and clam strips are a favorite and the clam chowder is loaded with clams and potatoes and seasoned very well. Never again.. and THIS time we mean it. We decided to get an early eat out supper because of my busy schedule. We arrived about 5:00 and it was not busy. We were seated and immediately ignored. I noticed that several of the tables surrounding us had not been cleaned well as ours had not. It was a good 10 minutes before someone noticed our table and asked if we were ok. We had no drinks or anything so my husband told him that no one had come to take our drink order. So the guy apologized profusely and a few minutes later we had drinks and some hush puppies and we gave our order... and we waited and waited and waited literally more than 30 minutes. Eventually the same guy appeared and told us that they had just started on our order because the kitchen had been busy with an unusually large takeout order. A while later someone came out with food but it wasn't what we'd ordered so they took it back to the kitchen and started over. The guy came out and again apologized profusely and promised us a huge discount and free desserts after the meal. FINALLY part of what we ordered arrived and we decided to just try to eat and get outta there. The food we got was terrible. My flounder tasted like the oil it had been cooked in and their usual slaw tasted heavily salted. It was very bad. We were given a discount on the food but not the drinks and were not charged for the food we ordered but were not served. The desserts that had been offered we passed on just to get outta there... Still what we paid was FAR too dear for what we ate. Extremely good service, we had Derek as our server and he was by far one of the best servers I've ever experienced, even with a large party of people. The food is simple, no frills seafood. The sides are average. I had fried flounder and popcorn shrimp. Came out hot and tasty. Had potatoe salad and slaw, both loaded down with mayo. Lots of hush puppies. Service was good. The interior could have definitely used a facelift. I asked what beer they had on tap, she said no beer of any kind. Scallops were terrible and were the size of poker chips meaning they appeared to have been frozen in a tube and sliced like poker chips. Next ordered fried oysters...the first platter was way over cooked. Like incenerated. They were sent back. Ah, the Mayflower. My family visits this restaurant about every other month, and we do really enjoy coming here. They run daily specials for $7-9 dollars and you get a TON of food. My husband and I always say "Oh, we should share this time." And of course... we never do! It's worth it to get two separate plates and take the rest home. Usually we come here on a Sunday afternoon, so I get the baby shrimp and chicken tender combo. The shrimp could use a little more seasoning but the fry on them is great... crisp and not overly breaded. The chicken tenders go to my toddler, who gives them a stamp of approval by gobbling them up! The baked potatoes are always great. Fluffy and wrapped in aluminum foil. Service for us has always been fine, and the food comes out in a acceptable timeframe. The decor is definitely older and outdated. However, I think it suits the restaurant. read more

We ate at the Winterville, NC location on Saturday, March 27 for lunch. Upon entering I went to the ladies restroom. As I entered it smelled very strongly of bleach/chlorine. The floors were soaked as well. I tried to be very careful not to let my clothing touch anything just in case it was in fact bleach your staff used for cleaning. After I got to our table I noticed that my royal blue pants had white spots on them. I called this to the attention to the assistant manager on duty but he refused to do anything about it. He would not allow me to speak to the owner so I wrote a letter to him. I even asked for his email so that I could send photos of the damage to my pants, but was refused this as well. The cleaners used in public spaces should not cause harm or damage to an individual or their clothing. There are safer options. My pants are completely ruined and non-repairable due to bleach spots. I have written 4 letters to the owner/manager and still no response. I have now turned them in to the BBB. read more

We've lived in greenville for 9 years and have been to Mayflower many times. It used to be crowded but not anymore. The quality has gone downhill so much that it has lost a significant number of customers.. During the past year, we've been two times and we will not go back. It is true that the portions are huge but unfortunately, they substitute quantity for quality. Both trips our fish was terrible smelling and terrible tasting. If it were only one time, I would have thought it was just one of those things but both last two visits resulted in bad tasting and smelling fried fish. The first of these two times we returned the fish. They corrected it with a different type fish. The second time, we ordered fish and shrimp and since they gave us so much fish we didn't want to wait for another order so we just ate the shrimp...which was plenty. It was very small shrimp and we tasted more of the breading than shrimp. None the less, because of the quantity, we filled up on fries and heavily breaded small shrimp. read more

I am in from out of town, to do work related to the restoration from Hurricane Florence. I was at a another restaurant for breakfast and asked about crab legs, the waitress pointed me here. After a long day I was looking forward to some good crab legs. When I in the parking my lot it was not real busy and when I walked in I was not real impressed. Still yet I still went in to eat. Needless to say that I ordered the steamer special and got crab legs and shrimp. I must say I was extremely impressed with the service and the food was great.
