I loved the ambience of this coffee shop! It was so cute and quaint. I loved the Latino backdrop; it was really adorable and well decorated with imagery of butterflies. The lattes itself were delicious. I got the cajeta latte and it was by far one of the best that I've had in arcata. My husband got the mole latte which had a unique blend of spices. Unpictured was the avocado toast eureka style which tasted very fresh. Overall all of our food and beverages were delicious. My only qualm was with the wait. There were only 2 people working for a Sunday morning and it caused a large back up of orders. We arrived at 9:15am and did not get our drinks until about 9:45. A 30 minute wait for 2 drinks seems a bit excessive... despite this, I'd definitely return for their very delicious food and drinks! read more

We visited multiple coffee shops in the area and this was my favorite. the coffee drinks were tasty and the food was also good! service was super friendly I had the Cajeta Latte...sooo good and not overly sweet daughter had the Cafe Miel Iced...I loved hers also. couldn't tell you which was better. Best to visit on a sunny day if you're looking to have a seat as most of the seating is outside. Coffee and pastries here always rock. The customer service could be a little better but their prices and flavor beat Northtown, Coffee Break, and Jitter Bean by a mile. Coffee Break sells a larger breakfast burrito for the same price if you're looking for that I suppose? Portions for breakfast food here are more quick bites than meals. read more

Nice little coffee/lite meal place off the beaten path, tucked back in the Creamery District. Seating is outdoors and high chairs are available. Very casual ambiance. Excellent coffee. I tried the avocado toast, "Eureka style" (arugula, fresh tomato slices and red pepper flakes added). The bread was a scrumptious, thick sliced wheat or multigrain sourdough, expertly toasted with toppings that were plentiful (maybe just slightly light on the avocado) and made for a great breakfast. This place is a hidden gem! Deep in the creamery district right behind Hashi, you'll find what looks like an industrial building that makes the best coffee ever! I had a vanilla bean latte, which was delicious. Super friendly and helpful people working here. And they have a great food menu... It feels like a locals joint, because it really should be crazy busy but it is not... This is a place you can go before you've had your coffee and not be overwhelmed, mellow vibe. My only complaint is the sign doesn't say coffee first. It's cute, and I love the name and the premise for this place... but I am just now finding this place because it doesn't say coffee on the sign on Alliance. I used to think Café Brio had the best coffee in Arcata... This place wins that award from here on out. read more

La Familia has moved to a location kind of across from the Arcata food coop. There is still outdoor seating, and a gorgeous passion flower vine which is quite prominent. Their drinks are delicious. read more

While visiting the area we dropped in for coffee and a quick bite around 10:30am Their menu looked promising until they told us they were out of all the hot breakfast items, so no tacos or chilaquiles. I asked for the Mexico cold brew....and they were out. So I just got an iced vanilla latte (surprisingly good) and my husband got the Blackberry ice tea (lacking in any flavor at all). As we finished up ordering and paying they told us they could do the chilaquiles, but I opted not to get them when I saw one person working behind the scenes next to a microwave. As we waited for our drinks I noticed they seemed to be a little unorganized at the espresso machine, with one person having to ask for their drink a couple of times. While their pastries looked decent, I couldn't help but notice quite a few flies hovering around the register. All seating is outdoors, but that's to be expected in this wonderful climate. We are really trying to support local businesses while we travel, but this place is disappointing. read more

I love this place! It's such a cute shop, it has kind of a warm industrial vibe that fits in perfectly to Arcata. The coffee is delicious (my go to is an oat milk latte) and the espresso is always really smooth, no burnt or bitter flavor. You can tell the attention to detail that's put into each drink that's being made. The staff are always super friendly and helpful and down to have a nice conversation while you're waiting for your drink. I highly recommend! read more

So, us heavy cream people and half and half people are SOL. Based on my love of this place, I tried making the milk work. I had a pourover yesterday and an americano the day before... it didn't work. We came into town to relax and decided to try Familia Cafe. My husband ordered the avocado toast and I ordered the almond butter with bananas slices and honey toast. My husband liked his a lot. They definitely didn't skimp on the avocado. Mine was delicious as well! It wasn't overly sweet like I would expect it to be with the almond butter, banana slices and honey. The person who rang up our order was very nice and helpful! We love the feeling of this place. If it wasn't raining we would have sat outside but we sat inside at the wood bar. It was gorgeous! Note to management: a Monday holiday is going to bring out the crowds, like families with kids. Staff appropriately. The staff were shorthanded on MLK day and were putting up a heroic effort to keep us all fed and caffeinated. Where was management? Cortados hare my go-to here, and they have A2 milk so I can have milk! My companions usually go for the creatively flavored lattes which they seem happy with. Interesting selection of cookies/pastries haven't disappointed. Food is also good, like the salmon toast. I think they bake their own bread and bagels too, though I didn't see the latter. The breakfast sandwich is my staple. And here there was a problem. It was always served on a delicious brioche, but this time on a store bought English muffin. Why? Maybe the bakers are on vacation? I make a similar sandwich and this was, sadly, not better than mine. read more

Stopped in for a quick Bourbon caramel latte and a breakfast sandwich to go and left prepared to write a rave review. The breakfast sandwich had a vegetarian option of sliced tomato and no meat. I went for the Havarti cheese. This bun is so pillow-y I wish I could take a nap on it. Seriously it was so airy and delicious and topped with toasted seeds. No pics because all was promptly enjoyed. I tried Familia Cafe in the late afternoon! I was curious about the coffee as I had already seen Familia Cafe in The Vance. I was so impressed by my drink and the smoothness of my coffee. Familia cafe is a overpriced coffee/snack place where the yuppies and hipsters of Arcata gather to seem like they're cool. I tried the Flan and it was not traditional. The chorizo tacos had no flavor BUT. The tortilla was good (odd). The best part of my first time at this place is the blackberry tea. The syrup is handmade and exquisitely proportioned to not be too sweet, yet subtle taste. I really wanted to like this place as it seems quasi-Latino but the ambiance, clientele it attracts and high prices will have me getting the tea sparingly. read more
