I left multiple voicemails and never received a call back. I also mailed a letter with a copy of the bill requesting the explanation, but received no response. Instead, I was sent a final notice threatening collections. It is very frustrating to be threatened over the bill when my attempt to resolve the issue were ignored. I woke up to having no vision in my right eye! I called my eye doctor who called Family Eye Physicians, after looking behind my eye. Apparently there was a lot of bleeding and swelling. Family Eye Physicians kept their doors open for me. When I arrived, near closing, they did all kinds of tests on my eye determining I had an eye stroke! Not to be confused with a brain stroke. They immediately began giving me monthly shots in my eye. This lasted for 5 months and today I can see as clear as ever! Thank you Family Eye Physicians!! read more

Strap in, it's a doozy! My first time here was pre-pandemic and it was recommended by my optometrist who had left the city. I had a chalazion needing removal and the Dr. I saw at that time was straightforward and good. I was surprised to find her no longer there but open to seeing a new doc when I returned for an exam and ANOTHER chalazion (I have a history). April 2023, The Annual Exam: Dr. Toresdahl is who I "saw." After a lengthy amount of time with the perfectly apt assistants, he came in, was super impersonal and rattling off things to her, never really talking to me. You know how Drs come in after we've been with the assistant (or nurse or hygienist) and they sort of recap everything to make sure they understand what's up? Yea, none of that. To the extent that he tells her I need eyedrops, I have to ask why I need eyedrops, he says for dry eyes, I have to ask how we've concluded I have dry eyes?????? And it was something I told her about feeling like something is in either eye sometimes... So he'd just read what she'd written, and in front of me tells her I need eyedrops, leaving a huge gap in information which forced me to ask enough questions to understand. Very nonchalant with subpar bedside manners. Fine, whatever, y'know? At least he's setting me up with another doc for this chalazion removal. May 19 2023, The Procedure: Dr. Chan is who did the removal. Similar vibe, but whatever they don't need to be gushy, just at least behave as though I'm a whole human being. I'm not too put off, I'm very familiar with this process and it's cool with me if we just get it done and I get out. The first irk was when it was completed and he's basically like, okay bye...with no real discussion about after care. I ask if I should plan to follow up- he may as well have shrugged and said 'do what you want.' The disinterest was strange, but again, whatever...it's done and I should be good. I patiently wait for the lump to go away. It doesn't. And doesn't. And...doesn't. Come July, I reach out via the portal that they have connected me to. I don't hear anything. I email photos as a follow up to the portal message. I don't hear anything. I email AGAIN asking for him to please call me. I'm eventually reached and told the only way I can speak with him is to make an appointment. Mind you, my specialist co-pay is $75. I have never had a doctor in any field (and in the last 5 years I have had to see more doctors than I care to admit) REFUSE to speak with me unless I come in and pay to talk to them. Other docs even invite you to reach out if you have questions or concerns. They are able to get me in that week on a Friday afternoon. Both sides of the office are insanely crowded (I'd never seen it like that before); I had kind of a wait, and they demanded that copay. I refused to pay it on the front end- partially because I believe them to be on massive BS and partially because they were making an entirely too big deal of it, even when I clarified that I will pay it before I leave the building. Why was I being a twit, you wonder? Because I was genuinely stunned at their behavior about a copay for a conversation when I was returning due to the Dr.'s failed procedure. There were a lot of feelings stirred up and holding on to that copay until after my appointment was the last bit of control over the situation I felt like I had. I was always going to pay them: I didn't appreciate any of what was happening that day. I was quiet in my defiance; I did not cause a scene. ANYWAY, after eventually getting the manager, he allowed me to see the doc w/o paying the copay first, and with no consideration for all the previous successes I've had with this procedure, he confidently insists he got it out, because he definitely "scraped something out of there." To be clear, this is my 6th chalazion in my lifetime. Five previous times I have had successful removals, including right there in that office. The keloid determination was so random and his attitude so flippant, I simply didn't trust this. Naturally I went elsewhere. Somewhere that had acceptable bedside manners, with an extremely thorough and personable assistant, a doctor who saw a human in the chair, and who almost immediately identified the lump as a chalazion and took action to remedy it. I'm very happy I went elsewhere and remain livid with the callous nonchalant attitude of both doctors at Family Eye Physicians. I will say, unlike other reviews, I have always found the other staff and assistants there to be pleasant and relatively helpful, even if not always thorough. None of them ever rubbed me the wrong way during any of my visits. And I know them insisting on the co-pay was just them doing their job. I wish I could have a conversation with Chan to let him know what a disappointing experience I had with him. If only it didn't cost to talk to him. read more

i don't write reviews at all ever and I'm not a mean person, but this place got me riled up first of all when I got my check up done. I waited 45 minutes after the checkup with the assistant and throughout those 45 minutes I heard the employees just talk crap about the customers and just their life like whatever but they were so loud like wtf keep that to urself or be quiet about it? afterwards I went to the desk to pick up my glasses and the lady just had such a snappy attitude but I didn't say anything given the fact that it was the end of the day, and I wasn't about to have an argument then When I picked out my glasses and the lady at the desk asked me if I wanted some add ons on my glasses and I said no to all of them and when I saw the total it came out to 130 more dollars than what the actual glasses were which I had no problem with but when I came to pick up my glasses I found out that they had all of the add-ons. i'm not sure if that was an accident, or the lady just adding it because i had an attitude back. I was very confused, but I'm fine with it because again I'm not a mean person and I don't make a big deal out of it. Then when I went to go pick up my glasses, I got there and I said I'm picking up and the lady didn't even bother to look up from her phone like she dead ass had her eyes glued on the phone and wasn't even aware that someone had walked in and she directed me to the other side with a very snappy attitude again. honestly, all in all dreading my next visit and to those ladies if you don't like your job or are annoyed with it, literally quit you're in healthcare and you just make people not want to come back. read more

Not impressed. My appointment was scheduled for 10a. The front desk staff were friendly and prompt with doing their end of the tasks for my eye exam, but the doctor not so much. As the waiting room filled up it became very obvious that the doctor had not actually shown up at the office yet. Nothing was said by the front desk staff about having to wait for him. Once he finally showed up (1h15m past my scheduled appointment time), there was no apology and he sped through my exam as he was obviously now behind for the day. I found the entire experience to be extremely disrespectful. My time is valuable, as is every persons. To not even offer an apology for showing up late is extremely rude. I'll be finding a new doctor for my next exam. read more

As a new customer I was sitting there listen to 3 other people complain about their glasses and how they messed them up and they were not the right ones. One guy was arguing with the office employee saying that "I paid you cash, you give me my change back now". The employee said "the home office will send you a check back, I don't have cash here". We chose Family Eye Physicians because they were in the neighborhood and accepted our vision insurance. Both my husband and I had eye exams done. Our previous eye doctor had never noticed anything wrong with either of us. The doctor at F.E.P. told me that the glands around my eyes were clogged and I would need some kind of special procedure to have them cleaned. I had never heard of such a thing before, and I said, "No thanks!" so he sold me a fairly expensive HypoChlor Cleansing Gel to clean my eyelids. My husband's eye exam was even more alarming. The doctor was insistent that something was wrong during the eye exam and that my husband (who is 27) needed a glaucoma exam as soon as possible. However, since we have HMO, we needed a referral. The office employees were insistent that we needed my husband's Primary Care Physician to write a referral for their in-house specialist. This was a red flag. They also were very reluctant to release the results of my husband's eye exam to his primary physician, and it took some argument to get a copy of his exam results. Because of our HMO, my husband's PCP referred him to the Chicago Eye Institute at Illinois Masonic Hospital rather than F.E.P.'s in-house guy. The specialist who examined my husband there said that there was absolutely no evidence of glaucoma or cause for concern. She further told my husband, "Don't go back to that eye doctor because he doesn't know what he's talking about." The whole situation is fishy: Family Eye Physicians' reluctance to release medical records, ordering a test that was not necessary, and insistence on having the test done by their in-house specialist. I don't know that this was an insurance scam, but it certainly is suspicious. At the advice of the specialist at Illinois Masonic, we won't be back. read more

This place is great!!!!! This place has been a wonderful experiance for my wife and I. The staff was very nice, the wait time was normal like any other office. The Doctor was simply amazing, he made us feel at home, and took the time to explain to us what was going on, and what the treatment options are, and even long term care options. I was there for a simple eye exam, but my wife had to go back a for couple more follow up visits. We are truly satisifed with the care we recieved, and would definately recommend to others. Having had glasses all since I was a kid, I know how dreadful and long the eye doctor visits can be. I am really glad that I found this place and will be going back. Btw I want mention there office is set up so nicely...I think they got one of those HGTV designers to set up, it looks great...really visually pleasing. read more

Called to see if I could get an emergency pair of contact lenses as I lost the one out of my eye this morning and I only had 2 right eye contact left (which is the lesser of the prescription as each eye has a different prescription and the left is stronger). So know I have two contact in my eyes and I cant see out of either one, I drive from Gary, IN to Chicago Southside Mon thru Fri from 530a to 12:30p weekly going to work. I NEED TO BE ABLE TO SEE. I called and the receptionist first told me I am due for my yearly exam, which was due in November and they no longer take my insurance. I told the receptionist I will change my insurance to BCBS as they take this provider, but it will not go through for at least 3 to 4 weeks, and I can't wait that long. The receptionist said she would call me back SHORTLY after she speaks with the physician to see if I can get a pair until I come in for my appointment. (Which they can schedule 3 to 4 weeks out) 2 hours go by and no call back, so I called them back. I was told I need to schedule an appointment and then they will give me another pair when I come in for that appointment. My yearly exam was due in November, I admit I am late but I have been a patient for 2 years now and this is an emergency, do you not care about your patients. I have Medicaid and it is very simple to change my insurance provider especially since is the time to make said changes. The receptionist asked if I had a pair of glasses I could use, I told her no if I had that it wouldn't be an emergency, she got quiet and offered no other solutions, I told her I will be taking my business else where, said goodbye and hung up. read more

This place is great! Everyone was so friendly and helpful, the ladies at the front desk were personable and seemed to enjoy their jobs, which is always reassuring. I showed up early and they didn't make me wait until my scheduled time (even though I would have!) and the whole process was quick and painless, from making the appointment to paying for my new glasses. Dr. Dzubur is super chill and friendly, and clearly very knowledgeable about his practice. He shared his personal experience and his preferences for eyewear (we have a similar prescription), and even explained to me the specifics on why staring at screens and using harsh makeup removers take a toll on our eyes, AND gave me suggestions on how to counteract their effects. The staff was super helpful with picking out frames for me as well. I liked one pair, my boyfriend liked the other, and they helped break the tie- I got glasses that are cute and stylish, and that I'm excited to wear, rather than feeling "meh" about them! Oh, and I even got compliments on my amateur eyeshadow, and they told me they liked my style!! Which is awesome because everyone there was adorable, and I pretty much dress like a 12-year-old/80s grandma. I'm not from Chicago, I don't have any family here, and all my usual health care providers are back in my hometown. It's super amazing to be warmly accepted and treated so kindly by anyone, let alone people who you are trusting with your health. I had high hopes for this place but have come home very disappointed. I had a scheduled eye exam appointment for this afternoon (Tuesday) at 5:30 pm and the door was locked and no one was inside. I couldn't believe it since I had called at 4pm to confirm my appointment and verify my insurance. The door clearly says the office is open Tuesdays until 7pm but there was no note or phone call attempt to alert me the office was closed early. After some time of standing outside waiting to see if anyone came to the door I called the office and was sent to a central system. The person on the other end also had no idea why the office was closed and couldn't even take a message for me. I did what I could to take time off work and make it on time to my exam so it feels like a huge slap in the face when the office couldn't do its due diligence to respect my appointment. Family Eye Physicians did a terrible job and I do not plan to reschedule my exam or refer others to their office. read more

Very good experience at yhe Kedzie location.I took my Mom for a problem with her eyelids getting very irritated and we thought to check her eyes just to make sure they were healthy inside.The eyes were fine but the Doctor Bathia recomended us to go visit a dermatologyst and even prescribed a medicine that helped her reduce her inflamation until she is able to go see a dermathologyst.Also the front desk dis an amazing job looking all around town at pharmacies for the right medicine.We thank everyone at Family Eye Specialists. read more

all they want to do sell their products. Doctor i met was horrible. Most of the time talked about the product he wanted me to buy. As i was not very clear with my glasses, they told me to bring back with my old glass so they can fix my new glass. How immature. doesn't even know how to take the measurements with the new glass. Be aware that they will charge absurd rates for services and perform unnecessary procedures, especially if you have good insurance. We brought in my Son for an emergency visit when he got hit with a piece of paper on his eye. The doctor to be fair was very nice and reassuring. He prescribed antibiotics and a follow up visit where the doctor just did a visual exam and told us everything was good. Here's the bad part. They charged more than $500 for this. And this included an 'external imaging' charge of $90 which was just the doctor taking a picture of the eye with his smartphone, after he had done the exam and we were about to leave. When I complained, they pretty much told me to buzz off and pay what they had charged. I tried to be reasonable but the billing people were rude and completely inflexible. read more

I decided to go here without checking out any reviews first because it was right down the street from me. When I went in for my first exam, they had scheduled me between two already existing back-to-back appointments... So there was very little time to see me at all. My doctor (Dr. Saeed) rushed through the appointment. I had scheduled a contact lens fitting as well, which he squeezed in AFTER he had already dilated my pupils. Not sure how he was supposed to give an accurate exam when I couldn't focus on anything at all. Squeezing me in probably held up other customers that were waiting, which kind of sucks too. Anyway, so I get my glasses and contacts and both of them are the wrong prescription. I go back in and get re-examined, and get a better glasses prescription... But the contacts were obviously wrong AGAIN. I decided to see a different doctor, and she confirmed what I had expected... That the contact lens prescription they gave me didn't even exist. It wasn't even a valid prescription at all. Companies don't make contact lenses in those parameters. Plus, they were still way too weak to correct my vision fully. She also confirmed that my glasses prescription could've been a bit stronger, too. (She gave me the right contacts on the first exam). So ultimately, I gave them two tries and they didn't really get anything right either time. They're a huge waste of money and time. The only good thing about this office is the front desk staff are very nice. read more

Went in for an eye exam and could not have been more satisfied. The girls in front were super friendly and generous. Dr. Dzubur saw me within a few minutes of me coming in. Very nice and professional. Did my eye exam with all questions answered. Picked out my frames and the lens options were explained in detail on what the differences were. The frame selection was amazing. It took a while to decide. Dr. Dzubur followed up a couple days later to make sure all was well and had me come in for a follow up exam. I brought my daughter in for her 1st eye appointment and being a 1 yr old Dr. Dzubur handled her very well! He is young, witty, and makes the whole appointment process fun! You will leave cracking up! The ambiance was very nice with modern touches and even though there was no need for glasses they do have a wide variety of different styles for their customers! The receptionist was very friendly and was really sweet with my daughter and even watched my daughter while I had to grab something from my car. The tech that assists Dr. Dzubur was really friendly and was a optometrist prior to coming to the states and is very sweet and personable and makes you feel welcomed right away. Dr. Dzubur is a miracle worker. He examined my eyes thoroughly and gave me clear explanations of the issues and potential solutions. I have been seeing another eye doctor for almost five years; in my first appointment with Dr. D, he easily diagnosed my dry and irritated eyes and began to help me with a treatment plan. I've been coming to FEP for 2 years. The first year I went, I thought the staff was very helpful and the eye doctor very thorough. Unfortunately I did have to go back to the office unnecessary, because the frames I picked out did not fit my prescription, which they did not check before leaving the office. The second year (this year)... the service was poor, they couldnt find my contacts when I picked them up. The new contacts didnt fit comfortably, so they went back to my old contact brand. The old brand, new prescription are more comfortable, but my vision is still blurry, which I told the doctor before I left, but he told me to give it a few days and call if my vision is still blurry. I gave my new prescription a few weeks, and still blurry. I called for an appointment (they could see me today--but i'm at work, or in 2 weeks). Unfortunately they could not see me sooner. They are loosing my business, I cannot wait two weeks for a new prescription...and they charged an extra "$70" contact fitting fee..on top of the normal cost for a eye exam... for what?!. BTW...Daniel does a great job of managing the office (but the rest of the staff is clueless).Daniel tried to remedy the stituation by giving me a few extra pairs of contacts...but unfortunately, I cannot wear them. This place was outstanding, even during their busiest time, which I happen to have my appointment scheduled at, I was treated like family, with respect and in a timely manner. As soon as I walked in, I was already worried that I would be waiting long, but not only did they get me in quickly, they also delivered and exceeded my expectations. Pretty sub-par experience as far as doctor visits go. While the wait time wasn't too bad, I only saw the doctor for maybe 5 minutes tops. His assistant/technician did all of the tests, however she was either very soft-spoken or English was not her primary language because there was absolutely no communication about how the tests were going or what was being done. The actual reading of the eye chart part of the exam was not very comprehensive, and again, the doctor never once administered any of the tests himself. He basically just gave me a trial pair of contacts and called it a day. Oh, and the prescription he gave me for contacts is wrong. He admitted that my eyes are two different prescriptions, but he decided to just keep them both at the same level "to make it easier." Terrible!! read more

About a year ago I had an appointment with a previous optometrist but due to the customer service I never ended up using the prescription. I came in to buy glasses from this office that was recommended to me by a friend. Going forward I know now to continue to come here not only to get my glasses but for all my exams. The rep that helped me pick up my glasses was very helpful. She took her time with me to help find glasses that were suitable for my face and that also made me comfortable with wearing glasses. Even though I didn't have an appointment for an exam the receptionist were really friendly to me and made me feel at home. Dr. Dzubur also helped me with the picking of glasses even though I didn't have the exam at his office. You can tell that they truly care about the experience that you are receiving at this location! read more
