What can I say, Great food , good friendly staff and best fish & shrimp in Manhattan. I didn't realize they have Catfish nuggets I'll try that next time, but I really go for the Fish & Chips w/ tartar sauce. Yum Yum! Also, you'll be supporting a Veteran owned business. My kids and I ended up at the Famous Fish Market because we just came from Charles Pan Fried Chicken around the corner, and let's say, I won't be back again. I have always wanted to visit The Famous Fish Market because I've heard so much about it. I ordered the Fish and Chips, and they gave me a number to be called when my order was ready. They also have a speaker set up outside so you can hear your number because there is only takeout and no seating inside. All the food was economy-friendly and would not break the bank. I believe my Fish and Chips were about eleven dollars. My number was called, and I picked my food. The meal came with three nice-sized pieces of Fish. My son and I shared the Fish, and it was really good. It was flavorful, had great seasoning, and the fish was crunchy on the outside and meaty on the inside. The platter was enough for two people, and it was delicious. The staff was very friendly and greeted me as I entered the establishment. I would definitely be back again. read more

I love this food. The most beautifully battered and fried shrimp I've ever had. Period. And the heaping fish sandwich is a steal at eleven bucks. The very kind man who operates it was a U.S. Navy cook, and he obviously runs a tight ship, as far as cleanliness goes. The place is spotless! But that's as strict as it gets. Otherwise, the vibe is very polite, friendly, and inviting. As a harlem native, I've been going to Famous Fish for years and has been a harlem staple for as long as I can remember. One of the first fish markets to come up in Harlem. The fish is always made fresh which I like. However as a result, there's usually a line especially at peak times. I think there's very minimal seasoning on the fish. It's mostly breading. They only really serve fried fish (tilapia shrimp and clams) which is a bit limiting. The people making the food and taking orders aren't really that friendly but it is what is. The spot is very small so you're forced to either stand in the corner until the food is ready or you wait outside until your number is called. Conveniently located next door to the ABCD train station and M3 and Bx19 which is cool. It's not open on Sundays which is a bummer. All in all, this isn't my most favorite fish spot but it is a good spot to grab, wait a little and go. I would recommend if you're in the area! read more

Great seafood, cooked perfectly with good breading and seasoning. The shrimp has a bit of a sweeter batter. Nothing was overcooked, which is often the case with clams. Clams were great, generous amount and not full of clam-less bits of breading. Worth trying everything you're interested in here. Breading on the fish is a bit thinner than it could be, and therefor the texture of things is slightly more oily overall, but that also allows the fish to be the focus vs. breading weighing it down. I saw this place on Vice. When you come out from the subway it's right there. Kind of cool! I decided to try the shrimp and clams. This place was more for my wife because fried seafood is her jam. I very much enjoyed the fried clams and fried shrimp. I have not had better versions of either. She agreed that this was the best fried shrimp she has ever had and she's from the south. Placed my order for homemade iced tea, 2 fish & shrimp combo. Prices have gone up, which is expected. Everything came to $46. Each combo was $20, drink was $2.75 Food was good & fresh.
