I am baffled as to why this location has three bad reviews. Baffled!…read more After going to three other locations much further from our home (New Lenox, then Orland Park last weekend, and finally Hammond, IN today), and having slightly negative, followed by indifferent, and then good service, we ended up at Homewood. While in Hammond, after trying on multiple pairs of boots but finding none that fit properly, the ladies in the shop called Homewood to see if they had a particular style in his size, and they did and put them aside for us. We got to Homewood and were greeted warmly by both men working in the store. One of the two took the held pair of boots for my husband and assisted him with them. They didn't fit either. After speaking to my husband for a few minutes about our two weekends of struggles and the issues with his feet, he decided to use the manual sizer to check what size shoe he needed, rather than utilize the computer guided system that we had used in New Lenox. Turns out that one of my husband's feet was a size 13, but the other was an 11 1/2. Seeing this as a challenge, our salesman brought out box after box after box of different boots to try on. Unwilling to accept defeat, we were there for more than an hour and a half, trying on dozens of different boots that would accommodate his different sized feet and other issues (a bunion, wanting an American made boot, no steel toe, etc.). Happily, he found a style that would work, and we purchased them and left VERY happy. Do NOT let old reviews keep you from this store! The staff is amazing!! Thanks again for all of your help!!!

These boots last if you put in the effort to maintain them and really only require a clean and some oil from time to time. Definitely worth the visit if you're looking to get a pair of boots!

Another bad experience.... I noticed some of the people who work at this location have friends…read moreand/or family who come at certain times of the day. It is the same people, no matter what day of the week I stop by. Apparently, Salvation Army workers of this location "conveniently" bring out the "good stuff" for their family and/or friends. I think their family/friends are reselling the items at the local flea markets or Craigslist/Ebay, because it is no way they need 30 pairs of shoes in one shopping outing!!! I promise you, this is NO EXAGGERATION!!! 30 pairs of shoes conveniently handed over to a certain customer is NOT FAIR! Even though I had some negative experiences at this location, I really do still shop here at least a couple times a month. Most times, I walk out empty-handed, but there are those times when I find a TREASURE FOR ME or WISH I HAD SOMEONE TO BUY THE TREASURE FOR!!! See my updated photos.... I have finally figured out the end of the month and first of the month is the best time to find great furniture items. I guess this is when most people are in the process of moving... Additionally, I have found an occasional "pearl" hidden in the "sand" of most all of their departments... This is not the best of the thrift stores, but it is worth a drive by to see what is inside...

I haven't been to this Sal Army in at least a year.......they had remodeled & moved the women's…read moresection into a dark, dank, cramped corner of the store & I simply could not! But I ventured back this week & was pleasantly surprised to see the remodeled again! The women's section has been rightly restored to the most expansive part of the store! They are arranging the clothing by color! Every aisle is wider.....carts & butts do not compete for space! The entire store seemed super clean & organized in every department! The floor help was friendly & available! The only faults are the sometimes vastly overpriced items.....a tiny lil vase with one tiny lil artificial flower for $6.99?????? And the loooong checkout lines. But the day I went summer was already 50% off so WIN!!! If you haven't been here in awhile, please have a look. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!!
