I had a horrible experience at this nail salon. The technician seemed almost put off when I initially asked for the pedicure and then, near the end of the pedicure, appeared finished without properly trimming my toenails. I had to specifically ask her to cut them down--which should be a basic part of a pedicure. On top of that, I was charged $60 for an incredibly subpar pedicure. I was so over it that I asked her not to bother with nail polish. Speaking of polish, I have NEVER gone to a salon that seemed almost out of stock of polish. Overall, the service did not match the cost, and I would not return or recommend this salon. There are too many other options, like Enchanted Nails, to consider. read more

I just needed my old gel removed, so I went to this salon close to my house. I was lucky enough to get Rose, who gave me the best manicure I may have ever had, and at 67 that is a serious number of visits to salons all over the country. The salon was calm, clean and friendly. And their rates are better than just competitive. So what made it such a great manicure? Rose. She removed my old gel gently. So I decided to try her out for a polish. She knew from looking at my nails the shape I wanted without a long explanation on my part. When I said no to the cuticle scissors, she gently pushed the cuticles back and ask if she could cut a couple of hang nails. And then she did an impeccable job applying the polish. And as a bonus, she was quite quick! Going back for a pedicure. And another favorite: no annoying tv playing something no one want to watch, or no bad loud music. read more

I got what I expected based on the reviews here. The nails (I got an acrylic fill) were pretty solid save for the fact that she took more length off than I asked for. But, the nail tech filed and buffed so vigorously that she made my cuticles/the area around my nails bleed on several fingers. The skin was quite literally grated off on some parts. And then she yelled at me when my hand tensed up. She also yelled at me and was rude several times when I didn't understand what she was asking and made me put away all the polish after my nails were done. Again, not surprised. I got the worst dip manicure I've ever had here. I should've known it was going to be bad when I found the color I wanted but the number was illegible, so they had to search through boxes on the floor for colors similar to the one I wanted. (They luckily found an exact color match, so I hoped it would be a minor blip. It was not). Be warned that they only apply two thin coats of dip, and it's so thin they don't even use a file to smooth it out. I've been getting dip manicures for 3 years now, and I couldn't believe it. Within HOURS of getting the manicure, one of the nails completely popped off. I didn't think that was possible?! Now, less than 24 hours later, a second nail has already split in half. And this is all combined with the fact that the customer service was just bad. The tech who did my nails said maybe 6 words to me the entire time I was there (hi, sit there, wash hands, $55), didn't ask for the shape I wanted, and was annoyed when she told me to wash my hands and I asked where the sink was. I can excuse bad service if the work product is amazing (I don't need to be pampered--I just want some nice nails lol), but getting crappy nails along with a bad experience does not leave a good feeling. Alright, when it comes to nails and hair, I'm picky. I wasn't a fan of this place. I came here to try out SNS nails. I use to get them a lot but stopped for awhile. Made an appointment with Kevin, due to multiple reviews mentioning his name. When I get my nails done, I like to relax. The nail salon was extremely packed on a Saturday of course, but the place didn't seem to really have any organization. People were walking everywhere, someone came to start taking my nails off, then boom stopped midway to help someone else. It was just A LOT going on. Also, it really doesn't seem like a "Spa" to me, more of just a quick nail salon. Finally Kevin, which is a sweetheart, started doing my nails. I mentioned to him that I like my SNS nails to look very natural, not thick. I left the salon with them looking thick. I also left with little cuts in my cuticles. Unfortunately, didn't have the full opportunity to experience the artistry, as immediately when I walked in I felt uncomfortable. The salon was irregularly dirty - dirty floor, chairs ripped, odd odor, dirty / dusty mail stations. Called ahead to request the a regular degular pink and white dip service, walked in and no one returned the greeting upon entry, harshly directed to sit down while the employees yelled back and forth about who was going to do my nails, eventually someone comes from the back (must have just awoken) to ask what I wanted. I knew the exact color and style I wanted and ... after sifting through the nail color block for 2 mins, she said she wasn't capable of doing my nails and asked to wait an additional 15 minutes for someone else to do my nails. When someone is patronizing your business the less you could do is acknowledge them. My friend and went there on 14APR in the afternoon. The shop was fairly empty, we were asked what services we wanted and told to pick a color. That was fine but after that, they didn't engage in other conversations with us not even to upsell. Ok fine but then when another customer walks in it was at least a couple of minutes for anyone to acknowledge her so she walks out (good for her). If you are desperate and have no other option then is one but if you have a choice choose somewhere else where your business is appreciated. Went today around 12 to repair my busted nails. There was only one other customer so I was seen right away by Linda. She's an older lady with a very sweet maternal demeanor. One of my nails was split on the side and once I showed it to her, she promised to fix it, no charge. After soaking off the gel, she painted my nail with a clear substance and dipped it in SMS powder twice. No more split nail! Linda gave me a lovely French manicure. She was attentive throughout the entire process and asked me repeatedly how thick I wanted the French tip. I could tell she really cared about her work. I really like my nails. This salon was filthy dirty. The manicurist did an OK job but scrubbed my foot so hard on the side that it bled. To make matters worse, a customer refused to pay the $60 due and instead threw a $20 at the manicurist who tried to block the customer's exit (the customer was just rude and obviously has no intentions of ever paying). Had the absolute worst experience here today. The nail tech that did my nails has tattooed eyebrows, so if you have to come here avoid her. She was extremely rude. I asked for a french manicure and she just painted my nails white. I should have spoken up but I was in a time crunch and just let it go but that was just the start. At the end she just squirted some lotion on my palms and told me rub them hahaha never experienced this at a nail salon before but ok. Also just look at the job she did. If you are buying a gift certificate be aware they have a 30 day expiration. I was gifted one last Christmas and just now got around to using it. I acknowledge it's been over 9 months but as a massage therapist I know industry standard is 1 year expiration and good customer service says honor it because it has been paid for. Edit: The law is actually in my favor here, but did not want to argue. GC value is to be honored for up to 5 years. Service is sometimes slow. The outcome is always excellent. This is my second time at Fantatix. The first visit was a normal experience, nothing to write home about but nothing bad. I came back because the wait was next to nothing. I enter and am told to look for a color. I can't find the color I'm looking for so I ask for help. Reluctantly the woman who is supposed to do my nails gets up to assist. She can't find the color so asks me to sit so she can soak my nails. I sit and take my headphones out and sucks her teeth and points to my hands. I give her my left hand so I can continue getting my headphones on and she sucks her teeth again and points to my right hand. I saw one second and she says "hurry up." Extremely dirty, unprofessional management, below average manicure. This place has really gone down hill since my previous manicures over the years. I've been to some crappy nail salons before, but this was by far the dirtiest I've been to-- it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. The sink was disgusting, the floors were covered in hair, nail clippings, dirty hand towels. The manicure stations were dirty with nail dustings, nail clippings, spilled (polish maybe?) and I'm not taking one or two stations...all of them (used or unused) were in this condition. The bowl I was given to soak in was clearly not washed. I was genuinely worried about contacting an infection and contemplated getting up and leaving. I wish I was exaggerating. The pictures don't do it justice. The reason I chose to leave this review however was not just because of the condition of the salon, but more so because of the technician (or manager maybe) who sat at the front desk the whole time watching TV, and didn't lift a finger to try and tidy the mess of salon. I was disappointed by this level of unprofessionalism especially in a so called "spa". Additionally, despite having made an appointment on a Sunday at 4:30, I came in and was told there would be a wait. I was surprised given that it was not busy and the same technician was sitting watching tv. I had asked that technician if he could at least wrap my nails to take off the existing gel while I waited, and he insisted I wait. I waited for 30 minutes until I was seen, while he continued to watch tv. The manicure wasn't horrible, but not good. The top polish must've been old, as it dried very streaky and bumpy and really ruined the manicure. read more

I've been going here for my nails since October 25, 2017. I think that they are amazing. I've had a different nail tech each time, and I go just about every 2 weeks. The color range is amazing as well. I personally get the Gel Fill-in. I take the metro here and it's only like a 3 minute walk from the station the the salon. Prices are reasonable. The environment is comfy. I usually go between 11-12 in the afternoon and leave within the next hour. I've found my permeant nail place. The last 3 or 4 times I've been here the intensity of my pedicure has decreased tremendously. It seems like everyone I've gotten a pedicure from seems to rush and be sort of over it. But I guess the spa like experience of the nail art game has all but diminished. Nonetheless the work is good enough, prices are pretty standard, and they are skilled at what they do despite the fact they seem not to enjoy doing it. There were 3 people getting pedicures before me yet mine was finished before everyone else. That tells you how much I was rushed through my pedicure in a salon that really wasn't busy at all. At one point this was an amazing nail spa but it looks like when all of the old staff left they took their enthusiasm and care with them. read more

My girlfriend and I made an appointment here to try it. We had a friend tell us that they had a good experience. We made our appointment about two days before and they asked what time was best for us. I thought that was nice. That being said, when we arrived they only had four people working and one person was already waiting. Which was odd to me since we had made an appointment. Nonetheless, I was getting a pedicure only and my girlfriend was getting a pedi and mani. They completely finished my pedi before they even started her mani and pedi. Additionally, the lady went so fast - I was done in like 25 minutes and then she switched to doing my girlfriends toes. In all, I was left waiting a substantial amount of time (~45 minutes) before she was done just with her pedi because she decided to not get a mani as she didn't want us to wait any longer. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The service is half ass and unorganized. They only cared about getting us done (reminded me being on the farm again and herding cattle). I went today for my first gel manicure since I moved to DC. It is has been years since I had a manicure so I was overdue. Also, my nail was splitting so my nails needed some tlc. I called and asked if they could take me the same evening and they did. The girl recommended the gel manicure, even though I asked for powder. While she was doing the gel she asked, do you wash your hands a lot? Um yes. She then informs me that if you wash your hands a lot it won't last as long. so clearly this wasn't for me. He is funny and nice, but more importantly, he really takes pride in his work. Your nails represent him and he takes his time to make sure they are BEAU-TI-FUL! I called Fantatix and scheduled an appointment within two hours of closing; a Friday night and headed into a holiday weekend. I loved that the receptionist was professional and scheduled the appointment based on the services I requested. I arrived 10 minutes prior to my appointment. It is a quaint nail salon on Pennsylvania Avenue, SE that is nicely decorated - it is tight but functional; interesting use of space. The massage chairs are extremely comfortable and the water temperature was excellent. The pedicure service was good. It was quick but at a pace that felt relaxing and not rushed. I love that they clean the pedicure bowls after each use. I requested a basic gel manicure service. The technician was pleasant and conversational. The manicure was good but started chipping after a few days. I do like their polish selections - mostly OPI, a few Essie bottles and another brand I do not remember. I would definitely go back. I got a gel manicure last Monday, by Wednesday the gel was chipping. Okay, it happens! Went back up there, a week later to let them know and to correct at least the one nail. The first tech I encountered gave me the 3rd degree about how she needs to know who did my nails and if not she can't help me!! I told her the last time was my first time!! I don't know her!
