In early February, I attempted to book an appointment online with no success. I ended up calling and Tiffany was so sweet! She booked my appointment over the phone. The customer service was fantastic! I came here for the first time in early March. The experience was lovely! I found parking right in front. Tiffany unlocked the door. Had me sanitize and take my temp before checking in. There was a bit of a wait because they were behind but that was no problem. Since there were only 2 other ladies in the space, it was quite. Not too much chatter. Elle was my mail tech and she was very gentle. I appreciated that. As someone who doesn't get manis+pedis often, it was quite expensive. But if I paid the price I did so the techs can get the pay they deserve, it was worth it. Normally a gel manicure will only last me 5 days, but I was able to have this one for 2 weeks. My pedicure probably would have lasted 4-5 weeks, but I just wanted a color change for vacation. read more

I really wanted to love this place. Black owned and woman owned...yes please! Unfortunately, I was disappointed. I debated on whether to write this review, especially since I did not contact the salon directly to address my issues. But here goes... I will say the customer service was great from the time I made my appt to the time I actually arrived and throughout my appt. I got a gel mani and foil on 2 fingers. I was pretty indecisive about color, so I really appreciated the technician's patience. So as she was doing my nails I noticed some streaking, which I thought would go away with the next coat. Three coats later it wasn't horrible but I could still see it a little. I probably should have said something then but I knew the only thing she was going to be able to do was either add another coat and hope it worked or remove it and start over. Neither was an option. So when I got home and really looked at it in different lighting it was worse than I thought. The polish wasn't smooth and the streaks were very noticeable close up. I also noticed that my nails were not even. Not even the corresponding fingers on each hand. Usually the tech files and compares but it dawned on me that she never did that. Not a big deal but when you are paying high end prices you want high end service. Later that evening I was putting jeans on to go out and the foil started peeling! Thankfully I didn't have an event to go to but I did want to give them another chance, so I waited for the books to open for a second appt. FAIL! I checked March 1st and they weren't open yet and then I saw the IG post on 3/2. I guess I was too late. That's another issue...the scheduling. They need to really adjust to at least allow for a month of openings instead of 2 weeks. The chances of getting an appt online if you actually work and can't be online the very minute scheduling opens is slim to none. I think this place has great potential but for the prices they charge I would like the overall quality of their services to match. Don't know if/when I will ever get to try them again since booking is so crazy but I wish them well. read more

I've always been picky about my nail salons. It's probably why I have never really been consistent about nail care. That's changed in the last year for me. I travel a lot and I need each handshake to make a good impression. I had been looking for a place that didn't use a lot of chemicals and was respectful of not just me but all of the clients. Vicky's in Georgetown fits this and had been going there off and on. In 2019 I decided I want to find something closer to home. Nailbed and Bar is my new nail salon of choice. LaLena, Tiffany, and Javon are so cool. They are warm and inviting from the beginning. As is the minimalist modern decor. And we have all bonded over a shared love of 90s R&B. They offer pretzels and I am addicted to the popcorn. You also get a choice of drink. The mani-pedi menu has a drink theme. Everything is offered a three levels with varying levels of service. For my acrylic and SNS fans, sorry you won't find that here. Since I had SNS on my nails, I wasn't sure of their Gel Enhancement service was going to be to my liking. Actually it's better. I haven't had any lifting, cracking, or breaking. Also there is no soak off with acetone. I pay extra for gel polish and my hands stay perfect until it's time for a fill. Pro tip#1: Make an appointment. Although they take walkins, they are usually booked up on the weekends. If you aren't sure of what service you want just call and Tiffany will help you out. Pro tip #2: The appointments are longer than a regular salon because they really take their time. My "Thirst" pedicure was 2hrs. My pedicure was 6wks ago and my polish has not chipped or cracked with traditional polish. read more

Still very much obsessed with this nail salon and how they've done everything to keep the staff and the customers safe during Covid. My boo Keisha is no longer there...BUT J and the other techs are equally amazing. Reasons I continue to love this salon - their Covid precautions are really awesome. Even before the shut down...they had stricter policies than any other store I'd been in. And now that they've re-opened...they take temperatures, there's a covid questionnaire you have to respond to, there's a strict mask policy, they have a sanitation station right at the front door. It's great! - of course my nails are always very cute! Like very cute! - I appreciate how well they manage their time and appointments. Based on the services...they schedule you perfectly so the next person is never really waiting (and during covid) - it's still like hanging out with friends rather than going to the salon - the musical selection is still great - the techs are really talented. I always feel very cool and popping when we get super creative with my nails. Definitely all love for this amazing salon! read more

All the staff here is super friendly and helpful! I called and got a last minute appointment right before the holidays, and was so glad they were willing to squeeze me in. After being greeted right away, I was given the polish selections and offered a glass of wine (don't mind if I do!) The woman who did my gel manicure was very cheerful and sweet. I wasn't familiar with the polish they have and was a bit nervous, but it turned out nicely and lasted for 2 weeks. The location is great and there's lots of street parking nearby. After visiting insta and reading reviews...This nail salon has been on my must visit list for over a month. I am always looking to support local businesses in my neighborhood that are black owned and operated. Today was the day!!! I went online the night before and booked the first appointment they had. I found easy parking right out front that felt quiet and safe. I was greeted at arrival by a warm friendly face ( the owner) She gave me the run down on all the services they offer. Looking for something new I went with the Gel Enhancement . I am now in love .... it is an amazing technique that takes skill and knowledge to build/ mold each nail. Its very interesting to watch. I asked the nail tech to surprise me with designs and details and she did just that. Added some Crome and foil and here I am.... smiling every time I look at my hands. The salon had such a relaxing vibe with great R&B being played. I was offered a tablet and headphones while getting my pedicure.... such a cool idea to surf the web while being pampered. (A first for me) My pedi experience was pretty good..the tech was very professional and made great conversation. I did find the pedicure seats to be a little uncomfortable and a little tricky maneuvering in and out after your service. Yet very modern in style. In such a congested, fast paced city, there are few opportunities to find an intimate pampering setting. Nailbed& Bar is located in an area which historically hasn't had the best to offer and which is due much more love from the city. The owners of this establish recognized that and brought this beauty to fruition. For that, I truly thank them for adding this gem to our community. For starters, the service is impeccable. When you enter you're asked to complete a form to allow your technician to personalize your services for you. You complete your intake by also completing a waiver regarding alcohol and safety. These may seem to be cumbersome items, however it sets the bar for this salon by informing clients that our safety and enjoyment is important to the owners and staff. After the consultation portion you can select polishes that are a breath of fresh air--by that I mean the polishes are not the normal OPI and Essie, etc. They offer vegan and safe products for your nails that I haven't seen displayed elsewhere. Once you begin your service you're allowed to select a tablet with headphone if you wish and a complimentary beverage (teas, lemonades, wines). I was concerned that the headphones may prevent my specialist and I from communicating, but whenever she needed my attention she lightly tapped my leg (while getting a pedi) and it worked perfectly. If you think the tablet is distracting and takes away from the intimacy of the experience, fret not. The technicians are all very friendly and willing to chat with you throughout your time there. This. This is what I almost never, ever get a chance to do at a nail salon. By the time you leave this little oasis, you're already thinking about when you want to come back to pay them a visit. To make that a seamless process you can easily book a time to come in again. While walkins are accepted, take advantage of this if you can. My best friend has been recommending that I come here for the last year or so and I finally made it! Despite the restrictions of COVID-19, they are really doing a great job. The rules are very clear, they prioritize safety for all, and everything feels very clean from the second you enter the door. I got a thirst gel mani and gel pedi and recommend it to anyone who it interested in a relaxing experience. The scrub is wonderful and each point of the pedicure in particular was relaxing. I am not always a fan of the big massage chairs in places, and appreciate the comfortable and simple chairs they have here. If you are someone who wants to shake away in a massage chair, you won't get that here. There are plenty of colors to choose from. They service all genders. They are really mindful of what you need and want when booking your appointment in order to account for the time needed and to ensure that things aren't rushed. I recommend following them on IG if you're trying to decide if it's the right place. The work was good I couldn't really complain. I've had maybe 2x for the months I've been going here I can honestly say that I had a issue with my nails. The booking is awful though. I would have to wait 3 weeks to get another appointment because it's only 2 techs. They was always apologetic about the inconvenience but it just became to much. I couldn't go to get a polish change because they never had time. I had decided to go back to my old tech because I needed consistency with my nails. VERY BAD EXPERIENCE WITH SCHEDULING - I've been excited about booking an appointment with Nailbed & Bar ever since I drove past & discovered them during their grand opening. It looked so chic, even from the outside. Discovering that it's a black owned nail salon made me even more excited and I honestly was looking at making this MY NAIL SALON OF CHOICE. I live on a budget and had to plan my appointment accordingly. The first negative experience I had with scheduling was that there were no appointments available! I had to settle with making an appointment a whole month later than when I wanted which was very frustrating, but I was still looking forward to the appointment and even had been telling people about this new nail salon. Nailbed & Bar is definitely more expensive than the average nail salon in DC but I wanted more than an average experience and I wanted to be supportive of this business, so despite my budget I was willing to pay more. The day before my appointment was an anomaly. I'd had a family emergency was still rattled and upset the next day, which threw me way off schedule. I missed my appointment time by an hour and a half, but called as soon as I remembered AND they still had an appointment available. Great! They charged me a $15 missed appointment fee which I understand is policy. What is NOT great about this policy is that they weren't willing to put that $15 towards my same day service. If I totally missed my appointment and called the next day I can understand a missed appointment fee. But if a customer has a valid reason and can be accommodated within the same day, I feel like that fee should go towards their service. I RARELY write a negative review but I am truly upset about this! I held off on getting my nails done for a whole month because I was so excited about Nailbed & Bar, but I cannot afford to pay an extra $15 on top of their already higher-than-average prices for service. I wish they would have been willing to work with me. read more

Visited for the first time last week before a vacation! I'm so happy to have this shop in the neighborhood and J, the owner, is a pleasure. The decor is simple and clean. I had a pedicure and gel manicure. Note: if you're used to the huge massage chairs, they don't have them. But the set-up is comfortable--a cozy chair with pillow and a stationary foot bowl with supports. It takes a little getting used to, but J talks you through it. And you can still get the fill treatment - massage, oil, sugar scrub, etc. Plus a glass of wine and snacks! For the manicure, I got nail art for the first time and I think I'm hooked! I asked her to do whatever she liked, she asked me some questions, and got to it! Very well done, complimented my toes, and she re-did one that got a bit smudged in the process.
