Everyone there is very helpful and knowledgeable about how to take care of your plants as well. The little outside patio is very nice as well, and I believe they hold events there from time to time. We came into this store for the first time not long after it opened, and it has become sort of an addiction. The selection is always changing and always unique, and the store itself is just beautiful and bright and a little funky. Most importantly, the owners and employees are really knowledgeable, helpful, and patient. We are complete novices and they have walked us through so many scenarios (what could survive in the dark corner in our living room? What won't get waterlogged in this copper pot? Exactly how often do we water this? Can you look at this leaf and tell us what we are doing wrong?) Now we have a house full of cool plants that are thriving and a go-to spot when we decide we could use a few more. read more

So happy I stumble upon this place on Yelp when I was in the area! It is such a cute little shop that's filled with so many different plants of all different shapes, sizes, etc. And just how I saw on another Yelp review it can be easily missed if you're not actively looking for it but just look for the adorable pastel pink door and you're definitely at the right spot. Fancy Free Nursery offers both indoor and outdoor plants, all of which seemed to be fairly priced from the ones that I was looking at while there. I would have left with more than just one plant but I'll save the other ones for future purchases. And if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask the employee. A most beautiful collection of indoor and out door plants, including cacti. I love a variety of succulents and air-plants. The price does come high when looking at a quality plant here, but these guys seem to specialize in the design of each plant. You get what you pay for so if you want cheap plants that will die in two weeks, go to Lowe's...you clearly don't value quality. This place is nothing short of magical! This is the cutest little plant nursery I've ever been to! Not only are the white walls and pink doors beautiful to photograph, but the plants are arranged in a way that really emphasizes their potential- it's kind of like entering a showroom that displays the plants how they could be displayed in a home. I didn't purchase anything since I'll be moving out of town soon, but the person manning the front desk seemed very knowledgeable about the various types and species of plants sold here. I was disappointed on my first visit to this nursery. I'd looked at all the photos on yelp and google and had high hopes, but many of the plants were browning and/or droopy and the ones I was interested in and took close looks at had pests. I'm not trying to bring mealybugs into my house. It was a cute place but i have definitely been to places that looked like the plants received better care. I'm not sure if this is normal for the place or not but one thing I will say about them is that they had a good selection of hard to find plants. read more

I should stress that this review is solely about my experience with Fancy Free as a wedding venue- not as a florist or nursery. Before posting this, I looked at other reviews and am literally SHOCKED by some people saying they were a pleasure to work with. I'm not sure why I got such a horrible experience, but I feel like other people choosing to work with them in this capacity should be aware of it. We originally set a date for Nov 2019. But after thinking more about it, we decided to push it back to Feb 2020. I contacted Robby via e-mail about this. After some back & forth, we picked a new date for Feb 2020. After receiving no response from him for a few weeks, I emailed again for confirmation of our new date. The exact response I got back was "You're all set for Feb. 22, 2020." So with the new date set, we went about our lives... My partner ended up getting offered a job in CO, so we moved out there. Fast forward to Nov 2019, when I got an email from Robby asking that I call him ASAP to talk about florals since the wedding was "so close." I was pretty confused. Four months away didn't seem very close to me, but whatever. Then, Robby sent me another email with our original November wedding date listed. I suddenly realized why he was so anxious to get our wedding details- he thought the wedding was a little over a week away (our original date). The most confusing part about this was that I had multiple phone/email conversations with him in the preceding months where I mentioned the wedding being in February. Additionally, I had sent him an email a few weeks prior to ask about doing a walk-through of FF while I was visiting Tampa over Veterans Day weekend, which was a few days after our original date... why would I be scheduling a walk-through for the day AFTER he thought when our wedding was? Maybe he thought I was 2 different people? I immediately found the email he sent me where he confirmed the Feb. date & texted him a screencap of this as a reminder. I asked in a panic if this date was available, since we had already sent out invites. After hearing nothing back for almost a whole day & having to send another follow-up text, he sent a text to let me know that the date wasn't available. Because he had not sent me a contract to sign with the new date, he still had our original Nov 2019 date in his calendar. So when another couple later came along and asked for the Feb 2020 date, he gave them a contract for it- which he now had to honor. I completely understand that we're all human & we make mistakes. I suppose maybe I should have made sure that he sent me a new contract, but I didn't realize I'd have to make sure that the venue's owners were doing their job correctly. But what really gets me about this whole situation is how it was handled. After Robby texted me that the date wasn't available, I didn't hear from him for 2 more days. My calls & texts went completely ignored. It wasn't until a friend of mine stopped by the nursery for me (since I'm in CO) that I finally heard back from him. I politely asked if I could have my security deposit back so that we could get married elsewhere. He instead offered to "sweeten the pot" for us by adding free florals to make the experience better- but I would have to change the date. I'd also like to add that Robby's tone on the phone- after double booking our wedding date & ignoring me for 2 days- was in no way sympathetic. He could barely get an apology out. At one point, he said to me "I think we can both take blame for how confusing this process was." I'm sorry, what exactly did I do that made you forget how to do your job?? However, we were 4 months away from our wedding & there weren't many other venues to choose from at this point- so we stuck with them. I wish I could say that after that, my exchanges with FF got better- but they didn't. When we finally did do a walkthrough in November, he pretty much ignored me the entire time. It was still nearly impossible to get FF to respond to any emails (even 1 week before the wedding). 2 days before my wedding, my coordinator found out that they had no plans to make bouquets for me because "the last we heard, the bride was handling this herself." They were referencing an email from over a year ago, before they had decided to throw in free flowers for screwing up. Luckily, the flowers were clearly noted in the new contract, which she showed them. It was clear to me & my coordinator that FF doesn't have a good means of communication among their team. At one point in the middle of our rehearsal, a girl working there went up to my coordinator and told her that she had "no idea what's going on here". On that same day, Robby denied double booking us and told my coordinator "they moved to CO" (not sure what that has to do with anything). In Summation: The venue is gorgeous. Our photos will be beautiful. But FF is in DESPERATE need of a special wedding/events person or a new system. read more

My daughter recently had her wedding there. While the plant were lovely and it was a cute setting, there was no attempt made to clean the floor or put any type of floor covering down. Perhaps due to a fear of people tripping. My daughters dress had a train and it was filthy due to the dirt on the floor. I just assumed they would put down rugs or something. The area where the ceremony took place, the floor was cracked and still had puddles of water in certain areas. When I mentioned this to the owner, he shrugged and said "It's a nursery!" As they have many weddings there, it seems as though this would be something they would take into consideration. So, for you planning to use this as your wedding venue, I suggest you wear a short wedding dress. read more

This place is heaven. The only negative I can say is that they had a variegated monstera but it was already sold, so I got to see it and couldn't have it. Which is not a real negative I was just happy to see one in person. This place is fabulous. They had so many plants you don't see regularly. I was blown away by the variety and decor. BUYER BEWARE! C- RATING with the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU! We had a horrible experience with Fancy Free Nursery. We paid $2,500 for a custom succulent wall for our home. It took months for FFN to complete the project and install the wall. At the time they installed it, we expressed concern that the plants would not survive. They made many assurances and false promises that they would return to check on this huge custom piece. We took great care of the plants, however, within a few weeks the plants in the succulent wall starting dying and the soil started falling out of the structure. We immediatley reached out to FFN for help. At first, they expressed their disappointment that the wall was not performing the way they anticipated, and made many false assurances that they would return to my home to trouble-shoot the problem. But, weeks and weeks passed, and they never returned. Repeated calls and texts were ignored. We finally hired another nursery to fix the problem of the soil failing out and replacing the dead plants at a significant cost. We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, which FFN never responded to. Worst of all, FFN has a picture from our home on their public Instagram and Facebook pages. They refuse to take the photo down despite our repeated requests. I do not recommend FFN for custom work. read more

One of the best places I"ve ever visited in Tampa. I have been meaning to get into plants and caring for plants, so I decided to come to Fancy Free Nursery with my roommate, who had my similar interests and plant aspiration. The second we walked in, we knew we were in the right place. The place had an inviting energy, and that wasn't because of the plants alone. The workers who helped us pick out plants and pots were absolutely incredible. I don't think I've ever had a better retail experience than the one I received in Fancy Free Nursery. I felt like I didn't want to leave, because it was just a wonderful environment. Some may consider the prices a bit high, but I think it's worth it for the connection you get with your new plant, and with the lovely ladies that work there. I will definitely be returning, and I highly recommend this place if you're looking to get into plants or love plants in general! read more
