I went here with high expectations based on the reviews. I am a pretty knowledgeable food consumer and have been buying direct from producers for a while... We have dry cured our own bacon, made sausage, cleaned our own chickens, etc... The customer service was fine. The selection was slim. That could have been because it was a weekday... They were butchering whole animals in the back... My real complaint is that the value added products were not very good. The "Italian" sausage was not "Italian" at all. It tasted like the sausage served in a Texas BBQ joint, which is fine but not "Italian" . The breakfast sausage we sampled and threw out. I have an adventurous palate and it was gross. The Cottage Bacon " it will taste like ham" had a very strange flavor profile. That too got tossed... To me, the place felt like a processing facility for their restaurant needs and for some of their friends in the food service business. The consumer business was secondary. read more

I went in on a Saturday 2-17-18 about 4:00 PM there was one person working. After a 45 minute wait, I left without any product. The customers in front of me were getting a $9.00 piece of sausage they wanted to be sliced there friends came in and asked for the same thing. He grabbed them a piece and went in back to slice it. I waited for a little longer then left empty-handed. Too bad, I planned on buying quite a few items as they are not close to me. Life changing experience ! Amazing store! The meat is fantastic, cheese is amazing, and they got chocolate too! This is the kind of store for foodies like me. I consider myself as a decent cook and a picky grocery shopper. Better quality meat than plum market, way better priced . The only place I will buy my meat, I have been coming here just about as long as they have been open and everything I have bought has been amazing. The beef is as fresh as it gets and is grass fed and not raised in a factory farm. They made a slab of brisket in to a corned beef brisket for me recently and I can not wait to cook it up and try it. They also have bones for dogs and last time I stopped in I was able to get a pigs tail for my dog and she loved it. I very highly recommend that if you love beef that you try this place out its worth the little bit more money for the great quality not to mention its way better for you as well. They also have pork and chicken as well, and have amazing bacon and sausages as well. read more

You will never eat better meat. I got a ribeye and it was the most amazing thing I ever ate. I will never be able to eat other meat. The flavors were so fresh and amazing. My husband and I split the steak which we cooked in a cast iron pan (its not BBQ weather ) and it was great. I cannot wait to come back, the staff was so nice and friendly. First off, just walk into this place and inhale that smokey, meat-y aroma. Wonderful. You're gonna get some good stuff, guaranteed. Next, the staff behind the counter. I didn't get his name, but whoever was working on 10/20/17 at about 4:00 P.M. was awesome. I had nothing in the way of knowledge, but he talked me through a "good steak" for my mother, and very sweetly didn't make me feel like the idiot i was. Ended up with a Wagyu Ribeye. Spoiler alert: she loved it, and even I, as a not-steak-fan, thought it was perfectly delicious. (Look up the reverse-sear technique - amazing!!) The smell while cooking was incredible, a solidly good meat-y aroma like I haven't experienced in years. We will definitely be back. read more

I went the other day to check this place out. Frank helped me and described the different cuts of meat they had. He seemed to have picked up on the fact that I wasn't trying to spend a fortune and offered me a cut of meat I'd never cooked before, the bavette. He told me how to cook it. And oh my god... it was so good. The meat was tender, flavorful, and juicy. I most definitely plan on going back soon! read more

Just found out about this place via a Groupon. Be warned- you must enter off of Wolcott street. It is the fenced in parking lot behind the brown house that sits on Woodward heights. Fantastic butcher shop! All questions were patiently answered. He was careful to make sure options were vacuum sealed well for use with sous vide cooking. Highly knowledgable. Maple sausage was positively fantastic. And the bacon. OMG! Short ribs looked amazing, but have not cooked them up yet. A little pricey, but soooo worth it! I've tried to buy from them couldn't get anyone to wait on me so finally left after 20 minutes. I walked in about 9:00 in the morning, the door was open, the lights were on but nobody was behind the counter. I waited, called out for someone and could hear several people in the backroom laughing. I then called the business and when the phone rings, it rings very loudly throughout the entire building. I did that twice and still nobody came to wait on me. After 20 minutes I left, called back and left a message on their answering machine asking for them to call me if I could come back and buy some meat. Never heard back. I love this place they have fresh meats and fantastic cheese. I preordered 36 hamburger patties for my son's birth birthday and we got a free bag that kept everything cold on our drive home. They can give you free samples of cheese too. There is some chocolate and I loved it! read more

My new favorite place to buy grass fed meats. Rib eyes, sirloins, filets, ground beef, beef ribs, lamb chops, pasture raised chicken. All have been excellent. Best local source for locally grown meats! read more

The meat maybe good, but they are very dishonest in their business dealings. A friend of mine worked very hard to raise a few hogs, to provide fresh meat for his family. And brought them to Farm Field to be processed. ALL the meat EVERYTHING was lost. Just IDK what happened to it. The owner blew him off, quit taking his calls. And offered nothing. read more

I have been wanting a butcher for about 10 years! YEAH! Farm Field Table, (Matt is the owner) is finally available for Southeast Michigan (and more importantly ME in FERNDALE!) This hidden treasure has the freshest (literally NO middle man, they run a farm, and the connections they have over the years will provide even the most FUSSIEST consumer with ANY need.) Matt invited me into his back room, "the warehouse, and place that they store, cut and package meat". IMMACULATE, and I received an education about beef, pork, lamb, poultry. I am scared of what we are offering the public in grocery stores after I learned about his process, (simple, no middle man, no hormones, nor any unnecessary drug treated animals, and HUMANE care of the stock.) The meat I bought today, at very competitive prices, actually has the owner of the stock, BRUSH the heard once a month. Do your family and self a BIG favor, and visit. I will NEVER buy any meat from another supplier again, it is a NO brainer, (especially with his generous pricing, he does NOT gauge, and really does want to provide a better more responsible product to his clients) KUDOS to you Matt and your family! read more
