Pretty good donuts at a decent price! Donuts are not my favorite but I would say these are more of a pastry or croissant-donut combo - light not oily. Went right before closing on a Saturday in December and they were still fully stocked. Got the maple donut ($4) as well as a spicy crab pastry ($8). I believe many of their donuts have a lemon flavor to it with fresh lemon zest as the maple I had did. Both pretty good although I wish the crab pastry had been warmed. Coffee and ice cream available as well. They also sell sandwiches, prebottled drinks, and some souvenirs. Free water. Restroom and parking available. There's tons of seating here upstairs and downstairs as well as outlets and solid wifi - would come to study or work here out of all the places in Woodstock. Good vibes overall read more

Stupendously-delicious donuts. Eggy, fluffy, deceptively-light, so fresh. Best bites we had on our trip to Vermont. I'm not even a big donut fan, and I sat here and vacuumed, mouth-wide, three donuts with my husband and we couldn't decide which were our favorites! This bakery is always very busy on the weekends, a true hot commodity; but the service is as quick as it can be. They have excellent savory and sweet treats to pick from. I do admit I probably buy too many in one go, but it's a nice treat to get. There's a small lot out front and then there's parking across the street. Seating is somewhat limited when it's busy but there's some upstairs and on the main floor. The high ceiling gives plenty of natural lighting and nice ambiance. They also have a selection of local goods in the center of the main floor and in a refrigerated section while you're waiting in to peruse through. read more

But it was New Year's Day, options were limited, but I'm so grateful Farmer & The Bell was open, because this experience has changed my life, and here's why. If you lined up a dozen donuts in front of me, I would have never chosen a French cruller. But one bite into the double chocolate donut, I instantly knew it the #1best donut I've ever had. And I don't say that lightly--I'm a self-proclaimed foodie with very high standards. My wife and I loved it so much that we went back into the line and ordered a dozen more to bring all the way back to Connecticut for friends and family. April immediately stood out behind the counter. She greeted every customer with a huge smile and true New Year's cheer, radiating gratitude and positivity. What impressed me most was watching her greet regulars by name--especially impressive considering they've only been in their permanent location for a couple months. Even with the long line, everyone was friendly and upbeat. When it was our turn, we never felt rushed. In fact, they took the time for genuine small talk, which made the experience even better. I had read about this place and we decided to grab breakfast on the way to the airport on our last day. I'm so glad we did. Phenomenal French crullers! I'm not a huge donut person but these are amazing! They melt in the mouth. So fresh. I had a chai spice one. My only regret is that we didn't get more to take home with us and that we didn't get any pics because we ate them so quickly. I'm upset and I should give 1 star. Because of this place I can no longer have a donut from any other bakery in the world. Just one bite of any of the flavors and you'll say the same. There's nothing like it and youll want them all the time. First there's this sweet delicate crunchy layer that feels like a churro. And then, there's this creamy, buttery, soft cavernous inner world just below that layer. Think churro crossed with popovers but made to look like a donut. With each bite your synapses are firing on all cylinders. And for anyone taking their first bite, it's a spiritual experience. Fireworks go off. Your body relaxes with a deep sense of relief. I've been a business owner myself, and I know how hard it is to get everything right, they absolutely nailed it. Fun twist: I had been to their pop-up in Quechee a few years ago and didn't realize they'd opened a store of their own. So when our B&B host recommended it, I was wonderfully surprised to connect the dots and realize I'd had these delicious donuts years before. And now they have a full-blown shop, it's clear how successful they've been, and for good reason. We were visiting from California and loved it so much we went back every single day we were in town. Yes, there's sometimes a line, but lines don't lie, always trust a line. The space is bright, airy, thoughtful, and just feels good to be in. The donuts are fluffy, spongy, melt-in-your-mouth magic. I want to bathe in them. I'm obsessed. I had the olive and rosemary focaccia, and I'm very picky about focaccia, and it was 10/10, the best I've ever had. What really stood out to our family was how friendly and welcoming everyone was. Warm smiles and easy conversation. My son and I drove over to Woodstock, VT to have lunch at Farmer and the Bell. I was severely disappointed with the food and cost. We both had a $12 "cup" of clam chowder and Focaccia at $8. The total bill was $40 plus tax. in addition there was a "tip" jar which I ignored. the "cup" of chowder was in a small paper cup and it was cup sized not bowl sized. No soup spoons just wooden coffee spoons. The Focaccia was decent. This was bare minimum service as they put the food on a tray and you brought it to the table yourself. Likewise you had to get your own napkins, utensils and dispose of them yourself. Honestly this place is an overpriced joke BUT it's Woodstock so what do you expect. read more

I've been really excited to try a French cruller here after hearing so many good things, so my expectations were high. Getting there was a bit of a challenge -- parking was honestly pretty frustrating -- but once inside, I was impressed. The space is beautiful: very clean, modern, and well designed. I ordered two crullers, one blueberry lemonade and one mocha. At $4 per donut, they're definitely on the expensive side, but I figured the quality would justify the price. I took them home so my wife and I could enjoy them together. Unfortunately, it was a big disappointment. Both crullers were very dark, one was raw in the center, and neither had much flavor at all. The most surprising part was how greasy they were -- enough to leave an actual puddle of oil on the plate, which is not what you expect from a French cruller. I've had a lot of crullers over the years, and this just wasn't it. Given the price and the reputation, I was really surprised by the execution. I hope this was an off day, because the space itself is lovely -- but at $4 per donut, the product needs to match the presentation. I gave it 2 stars because the building is beautiful. read more

Just oh my. I found this donut shop on a page dedicated to Vermont. Only open on Saturdays and Sundays the shop sits in the back of an inn/restaurant next to Simon Pearce. There is plenty of outdoor seating overlooking the beautiful river. Now to the donuts, wow. I've never had anything like it. Crispy and hot on the outside and gooey melt in your mouth on the inside. I got the sugar spice one. The employee admired my self control to only get one and I think that was my own foolishness! Best and most unique donut ever. If you're in town be sure to stop! read more

My wife and I got 3 donuts (apple cider streusel, double chocolate and sugar & spice) plus 2 decaf coffees. The donuts were large and artfully prepared. They were slightly crunchy on the outside and somewhat custard-like on the inside. Unfortunately, they did not have much flavor. We did not detect any apple cider flavor, chocolate flavor or spice (cinnamon?) flavor. Biting into one of these donuts was awesome but after a few chews, we looked at each other and said, "Where's the flavor?". And then there was the price. The donuts were $4 each, the decaf coffees were $3 each and with the tax ($2.52) and tip ($3.60), the total was $24.12. We probably could have gone to Dunkin, saved a bundle and got much more flavorful donuts. Sorry Farmer and The Bell. We were so excited to visit after reading about you in Seven Days (it was a 2 hour round trip for us). On the plus side, the service was great and the bakery is absolutely beautiful with lots of daylight coming in through lots of windows. read more

Someone call the James Beard people. My mind is blown. I'm not sure where to begin so I'm just going to start typing things about how incredible these donuts are and hope it comes together. Forget the flavors for a moment (maple, strawberry rhubarb, sugar and spice, etc.). They're all awesome so I won't dwell. Let's talk foundation instead. These are not yeast risen donuts (think Union Square donuts in Somerville, MA, or something like a Krispy Kreme). And they're not cake donuts either (think Blackbird donuts in Boston or, forgive me, a chocolate glazed from Dunkin). These are a different style entirely and something I never knew that I needed in my life. They're not made with what you might consider a dough. It's more like a batter and you can see the dream team piping them for frying. On the outside they're crispy like nothing else I can compare them too. Honestly, I can't think of anything. On the inside they're moist, bubbly, and eggy. Kind of creamy in a way. We debated as we indulged, and for a while all we could think of was some kind of deep fried choux pastry. But that didn't sit right as choux tends to be hollow. These were filled, crispy edge to crispy edge, with some kind of custardy (also not the right word) result. You know what these are? They're French crullers and the only other place I've ever had one is (again, forgive me) Dunkin Donuts. But imagine something one thousand... no.... one MILLION times better. This is James Beard Award level stuff. This is elite, world-class donut making. If this place doesn't become a landmark, it's going to accelerate the decline of my faith in humanity. read more

Most donut places use the same base donut and add tons of different random toppings to give you different flavored donuts. This place is no different. The lack of creativity is not worth $4 a donut. I am less concerned about the money and wish I hadn't wasted the calories. The donuts themselves are basic fried cruellers and some of the toppings are too sweet, something I rarely say. There is no indoor seating available for when it's cold, though there is a blocked off inside seating space. Very disappointing after the other positive reviews. These are the best doughnuts I've ever had! We tried all that were offered this past weekend and bought a dozen. Wow. The Key Lime was my personal favorite, but it's tough to choose just one! They are not overly sweet, which made it easy to consume more than I normally would, and the texture is more like a delightful, airy pastry than a typical, heavy doughnut.
