Lovely place with great coffee, dairy alternatives for the lactose challenged, and superb baked goods. And beware, they are HUGE but you won't be able to eat just half, they're that good. What a gem! My friend recommended me to stop by this bakery. When I walked in the smell of coffee was very strong. The guy behind the counter was busy putting the coffee beans in containers. I asked him for recommendations. Of course the number one thing is cinnamon frosted croissant. There were only 3 left for the day. I also bought a cookie, iced latte, and 2 bags of coffee beans. The cookie and the croissant were excellent. The iced latte was also very good. Will try the coffee beans when I get home. So glad we got to stop by. Highly recommend. read more

I grew up about 7 miles outside Wallingford and we NEVER had anything like this before! Don't miss out on this lovely place. The homemade baked goods are out of this world, and the espresso was fabulous. I had the pumpkin bread, which was moist and hearty. Probably the best pumpkin bread I have ever had. The coffee was fantastic, deep flavor and hearty roast. Highly recommend. My only regret is that I didn't have time to sit down and hang out for awhile. It is a lovely space... great to bring your computer or a book and relax. What a lovely addition to the area. And, next door is the Wallingford Market, which I thought wouldn't be much of anything, but boy was I surprised. Pop over to the market, which carries beautiful speciality foods, local produce, has entire organic bulk food section and a lovely deli. There are actually quite a few lovely places in this little town, but this one is a favorite. You can sit inside, or outside and the little Stone balcony. The assortment of goodies changes regularly. Today I had a vegan fig bar. One thing you can always count on is a cinnamon croissant muffin which are favorites of the locals. 40 your choice is a chai latte a matcha latte or an old gray latte. Stopped in for my first time the other morning and was pleasantly surprised. Pastries were wonderful and their homade pop tarts were amazing. Betsy and Irene could not have been nicer. Wallingford was a really cool town before Sweet Birch, now because this exists here it is the world's best town. What a wonderful addition to our village libations scene. Really lovely pastries and coffee, friendly staff, and delightful atmosphere. We stopped in not long after they opened and it looks like they are off to a great start. We had a couple of small fruit tarts (strawberry) that were sublime, and a really yummy cookie. We used Sweet Birch for our wedding - we had them make us a wedding cake (carrot cake and cream cheese frosting) along with baked cookies and edible cookie dough. Our cake was small and beautiful, and I am not kidding when I say it was the best cake I've ever had. The rest of the desserts (cookies and cookie dough) were huge hits. This fantastic bakery is just a short walk if you live in the Village of Wallingford, And man oh man is it dangerous! I've been to France and the croissants in this bakery are just like being in Paris. I treated myself to a bag of coffee and I will never drink any other coffee at home again. So smooth and fresh. Sweet Birch is a great addition to the area. They roast their own coffee which you can buy in bags in addition to getting hot drinks, and they make their own baked goods - the croissants (cinnamon, chocolate, butter) are all amazing and worth a stop. The dirty chai latte and iced coffee were delicious, and the baked goods (we bought a sampling of 5 because the two of us could not choose just one each ) were absolutely to die for!! This is a really cute, clean shop. Problem is, there's just so little product. And I'm certain they get their donuts from Dunkin Donuts. When I hear "bakery", I think of breads and rolls, not just pastries and sweets. Needs more beverages, and better, in-house made donuts. If you're looking for supplies for a party or want to treat your coworkers to a dozen donuts or muffins or bagels, you're better off going elsewhere where they can meet that need. read more

Wonderful new bakery! We tried one of each of the pastries and they were all great-- light and flavorful. The doughnuts were the best we've had --not at all greasy.
