I wanted to update my review. I had the bacon, mushroom & cheese omelette and a half-order of biscuits & gravy. That omelette was one of the best omelettes that I ever ate! The three egg omelette was perfectly executed and loaded with freshly-cooked, crumbled bacon, fresh mushrooms, and cheesy. I met a friend for lunch and we both enjoyed our meal very much. I had the chicken tortilla soup which was hearty and flavorful! I struggle with cheese in soups and chili because it "coats" the spoon and feels lumpy. But it tasted delicious as did my tuna melt. The staff were very friendly, patiently answered our questions since it was our first time eating there. The decor and atmosphere were welcoming, homemade cooking and conversation thriving in this business tucked back in a small strip mall location. I especially loved the cork board with receipts for extra meals already paid for, so people needing a hand can get what they need in a respectful inconspicuous manner. What a loving gesture. Solid find, good old fashioned American dinner experience on the way to the Detroit airport! Hometown and oh so much what I wanted. Skipped breakfast and driving from Toledo to Detroit to fly home. Didn't want to stop around the airport, so I found this place just off the highway with some good ratings. Did not disappoint ! This is what breakfast places in small towns should be. Great service, very pretty staff, great food that came out fast with everything hot and ready to please! I had a veggie omelette with hash-browns, wheat toast with peanut butter! Hash-browns could have been a little more browned but I bet if I would have asked for them that way that is exactly what I would have gotten. 3.5 overall. I ended up at Farmers Cafe as my original breakfast destination was closed for vacation. The restaurant does appear to be located within a farming community, and it is part of a strip of businesses. There is a parking lot onsite. The cafe has a community feel, which as someone from outside the community, it felt as though all eyes were on us when we walked in. Most of the patrons within the restaurant were talking to each other across the tables and booths. Our server greeted us right away and was very welcoming. We ordered a variety of dishes to try, and the prices were very low. They offer most of the standard breakfast fare, including pancakes, french toast, skillets, and biscuits and gravy. The breakfast menu filled an entire page, and the subsequent pages were dedicated to lunch items. We ordered the standard breakfast with scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, and rye toast, plus pancakes, and biscuits and gravy. The portions served were a good size for the price, and I liked that I could order 2 pancakes instead of 3. Overall, this breakfast was fine. There was nothing revolutionary about the food. The biscuits by themselves did not have a lot of flavor, but we're better once the gravy was added. The pancakes were hot and fresh, but were a little on the tough side. The scrambled eggs were overcooked compared to how I typically like them. The hash browns were very good, crispy on the top but soft on the bottom. The star of the show was the rye toast, which I would definitely recommend. I personally would not drive out of my way to return to this restaurant, as there are better options closer to my home. It does seem to be a hit among the locals, and it appeared that most patrons knew each other and were having a great time. If you find yourself in the Carleton area, you might want to give the Farmer's Cafe a try! read more

Wanting to try a new place to eat after church, we found our way to the Farmers Cafe, a hidden local treasure. My husband and I both ordered the grilled Walleye. Excellent! Mine had bones, but hubby lucked out. It came with a choice of soup, salad or coleslaw. We both had a delicious coleslaw. Also choice of potato and corn or green beans. Our dinner companions enjoyed a chicken tender wrap and a crispy breaded catfish dinner. The catfish received rave reviews. Cafe was clean, the staff was smiling and friendly. The only negative comment is once they brought the bill, the waitress never came back to see if we wanted dessert or needed a box, but that won't keep us from coming back. Well worth it!! read more

They have a full menu with breakfast anytime, Italian and Greek food. Homemade chicken pot pie (special not always on menu). We've eaten there twice and the servers are super friendly. My son-in-law and I had breakfast here today in our way to the Monroe fairgrounds swap meet. I have been here a few times before, he had never. There was a boat load of cars in the parking lot but when we went inside we found plenty of open seating. I had a farmers skillet which was delicious and a very large portion. My only issue is that the cast iron skillet they serve it in was not warm at all and I felt that I was sucking the heat out of my meal. My son in law had a farmers omelette. It said it was three egg but looked bigger to me. He said it was very good also. The breakfasts were very reasonably priced. With a bottomless Cup of Black Coffee for me and a giant milk for him the bill was under $20. The staff was very attentive the entire time we were there. As soon as we sat down someone was there asking what we wanted to drink. I will definitely go back. Oh yah by the way yes Brian there was plenty of Ketchup on the table( He used it on his Hash browns, YUCK!!!). The napkin were very good quality and very absorbent.
