I have been in the area for the last year recovering from a car accident, after being on the west coast for the past 20 years. I have been so bummed with the quality of food in restaurants in the area. This place surprised me, I was a regular every Tuesday for a while because of their specials. They season their food well here! Flavor is lacking at most places nearby. My only gripe is the garlic toast. Everything else is SO good, but that toast.. I throw it away when it comes with my meal. Went there Saturday for dinner - we've been here many times before... We all ordered prime rib. This place used to have great prime rib. This time wasn't so great. I think we all ordered it medium-rare. All orders came out well-done+++. It was tough, flavorless and overcooked, really terrible even for lesser grades. I would guess the beef was maybe Select (it wasn't Prime and I seriously doubt it was Choice). Remember, Prime is a grade of beef. If you offer rib roast on your menu and it's not graded "Prime," it's a standing rib roast, not Prime Rib. No way was this Prime beef. The horseradish served with it was very fresh and strong. The jus was really bland and had almost no flavor at all. The side salad was well made (and Trappperz includes onion with their salads!). The baked potato was gummy, and the sour cream was served in a little packet that was room temperature - bleh! I've ordered cocktails in this place before. DON'T DO THAT! They have a full bar but can't make anything more complicated than a rum and coke or 7-7. Stick to beer or a glass of wine. I ordered a PBR and it was great, especially at $2.50. I thought it would have come in a long neck bottle, but it was served in a can. A glass wasn't offered, so I requested one. I don't mind drinking some beers out of the bottle, but drinking out of a can??? Oh, I did order the turtle soup waaaaay back when. Turtle soup is delicious when it's made right. Trapperz reminded me of Campbell's Vegetable Soup with some meat added. Huge disappointment. I do remember their other apps as being pretty good though. The waitress was great. First drink free, free dessert, 10% off. Something. All I got was oh OK. Now I'm not feeling it but stuck it out because my man was kind enough to be my driver all day while I picked n chose where I went. Ordered perch dinner. He got some kind of steak medium. It came well done. He had to send it back. The wedding soup that came with the dinners was good. I wanted wine and only barefoot n sutter home available. Perch dinner was perfectly acceptable. Nothing great. I mentioned to the bartender that I was still hoping to find some birthday cake before the end of the day. I got silence. No offer of dessert or anything for the birthday. Driving by the restaurant this isn't a place I'd ever think to stop, but I saw some reviews here plus the menu and thought to give it a try. When we came in, it wasn't too clear how we were supposed to be seated, but honestly we only had to wait a couple minutes for someone to take us to a table, it was really busy at the time. The Trapperz sampler appetizer really had one of everything on it including fried mushrooms which I thought was pretty unique. The lemonade and all the sauces taste like they're house-made, I can't tell if that's the case but either way it was all really good. (The Buffalo Mac n cheese is the way to go y'all) If you like a country-bar sort of vibe, this is the place for you. I got a southern feel from this place which is nice coming from the city to eat here. If you don't like crowded (maybe it was just busy when we went, but) country sort of places, it might not be for you. On my first visit to Trapperz I was enthused as I walked in the door to a vibrant and busy place. Being Friday I went with the AYCE cod special. The cod was tasty and you get 4 nice pieces first time around. It took a little while to arrive, but it's deep fried and they were busy, so I understand. I put in my request for seconds and watched the Tigers as I waited...and waited...and waited. When two pieces of cod showed up in a paper boat, I knew I had to order thirds right away. But the real insult was that the seconds were NOT hot. For something deep fried that you wait 15 minutes for you're expecting it to be piping hot. I voiced my displeasure to the waitress and she apologized, and explained the two piece size of the order was the policy. She did help rectify things by going to the kitchen and bringing my thirds right out. But honestly that just reinforced my conclusion that they don't really want you to eat all that you can eat. Almost like it wasn't cooked completely. The fried food was completely saturated in oil. I understand you need oil to fry but it was a bit excessive. I had street tacos, and my husband had the perch sandwich with onion rings. We also ordered fried pickles. The food was really good. Dear Lord this place has the largest menu offerings I've ever seen! They have a thing about Elvis and frogs. If you know that going in you will be OK. The have AYCE perch nights. Yep! Their appetizer offerings are close to 40! The hot pepper cheese cubes, fried asparagus and peel and eat shrimp were good. They also have frog legs and a whole frog that they fry up. No thanks. My husband and I snuck away for date night without our son, and our babysitter suggested Trapperz due to their good burgers. First of all, this place was PACKED for a Tuesday. I didn't know bars were packed on non-football days? The servers were busy, and you definitely saw it in their hustle. We ordered the fried asparagus appetizer, which was really good and piping hot out of the kitchen. My husband and I both ordered burgers- they both came out cooked correctly and with GRILLED BUNS. My favorite! I had ordered my burger and had asked for "chilli cheese fries" thinking that you could upgrade the burger to come with that since they had an option to get fries, sweet potato fries, onion rings, etc. In actuality, my burger came with the standard chips and I ended up with a GIANT PLATE of chili cheese fries. It wasn't a big deal, but next time I'll make sure to be more specific- as I definitely did not need a giant plate of fries.
