My husband and I were visiting for our honeymoon. We ate our way through Maui and Kauai and I fell in love with coconut shrimps. By the 3rd time I ate them, I joked that I love them so much, I'd get a tattoo of a shrimp. My husband somehow convinced me that it would be fun to actually do it. Next thing you know, he wants one too but of his beloved spam musubi. We flew from Maui to Kauai on a Tuesday and drove to Farsyde as soon as we landed to check out the shop and make our appointments for Friday, the day we were scheduled to fly back home to Chicago. We met Yama at the shop and put down our deposit. We returned Friday and Yama had a couple of drawings for us to choose from. We got the paperwork all signed and roughly 2 hours later, we were done! Yama is a fun spirit and super talented! And he put up with my low tolerance for pain lol. His drawings and the colors he mixed up were exactly what we didn't know we wanted lol. It was a perfect way to end our amazing honeymoon. Thank you Yama for the fun tattoos and if you're ever in Chicago again, let us know so we can get more ink from you! For the longest time I had wanted to get a tattoo and after inspiration, I decided to get a tattoo of my favorite animal and whose traits I relish about myself, the honu. I can't speak to this shop in general but the artist, Rob really screwed us. We were on our honeymoon and had long planned to get tattooed while in Hawaii. This review is solely on our artist Felix who happens to be a guest at this parlor. Our group of five were interested in procuring ink as a memory of our vacation on Kauai. After visiting several parlors we finally found an artist who wasn't a cockaroach (Hawaiian term for steal; rip off). It was quite apparent that other artists seen nothing but tourists and dollar signs when we walked through their doors. They were mistaken to have thought that we didn't know our ink prices. Hello, we're from Seattle. One of our group was inked by Kapu Tatto Studio. Another party in our group was inked at Farsyde by Arturo Luna (Arturo was recommended several times throughout our stay) and the remaining three of us were inked by Felix. The three of us were looking for a flower design the size of a baseball within the $150 price range (other parlors were quoting $300) with depth and a black and gray scale. My wife was looking to get the Hawaiian fish hook. When speaking to Arturo and point blank asking him if he could create a flower that showed depth and didn't look like a drawing from a child's coloring book, he answered "no I usually refer those types of tattoos out." (Arturo specializes in tribal/Polynesian art) I thank you Arturo for knowing your artistic limitations and referring us to Felix. In order to secure an appointment a $50 deposit is required which will then be applied towards the final price. Visa/MC are accepted forms of payment. The shop is air conditioned which is nice. You would think all the parlors would be in HI but that is not the case. There are two couches to sit on while waiting for everybody to get their ink. Felix drew up an amazing lily flower for the three of us! Two of us chose our left hip and one of us chose the top of the right foot. Felix scheduled each of us for 2 hours so that his work wasn't rushed and used 1.5 hours on each of us. Felix didn't take smoke breaks nor any other type of breaks while inking us (he used the left-over 30 minutes between appointments to eat lunch etc...) but rather focused all of his attention onto us and his art. Felix is clean (my daughter hates dirty fingernails and hands), methodical and personable. Arturo would be getting the same review as Felix if he was a bit more honest in his pricing. My wife was quoted the same $150 which would have been agreeable if Arturo hadn't finished the tattoo in 35 minutes. The right thing to have done Arturo is to only charge $100, the minimum requirement. My daughter, my bestie and myself all left with a classy and gorgeous lily tattoo that cost $150 + tax + $20 tip each. If you ever get to Washington Felix you must let us know. My daughter would love to have you as her go-to tattoo artist. Besides, Washington is better than California right? Go to Felix peeps, he's fucking awesome! (using that word only because that's about the only word used in the shop. So don't be too sensitive or uptight!) read more

Great first tattoo experience from Kasey! Schedule in-person and bring at least $50 cash for the deposit and photos/drawings of your idea. I scheduled my appointment only 4 days in advance, but if you're on vacation then schedule early (when you arrive) to be safe. The day of the appointment, I was doubting my design and worried they wouldn't want to change it. But Kasey quickly edited the design and gave advice on composition & placement so it looked perfect! He made sure it was exactly how I wanted it before we started, told me what to expect during and after the tattoo, how to care for it, and how the tattoo will change as it heals and over time. The tattoo took 2-2.5 hours and cost $350 (which the deposit counted towards)--almost exactly the amount I expected. Kasey was kind, great to talk to, and made sure I was comfortable. During our visit to Kaua'i in August the bf and I decided to get tattoos. What better way to remember a vacation? We checked out the few tattoo shops on the island and by far this was the best tattoo shop we went to. All the staff was extremely friendly and the shop was very clean. Most places that we called or went into were booked or just didn't seem interested at all. Not at Farsyde. When we called they invited us right over to look at their work, go over what we wanted, pricing and set up an appointment. When we got to our appointments both Mario and Rob were ready with several different drawings and ideas. There are several artists available with different styles and creativity which was great because we were able to work with an artist that suited our preferences. There is also someone also available to do piercings. The bf went with a tiki on his calf muscle and I got a plumeria on my upper rib cage. Healing time was super fast. Neither one of our tattoos scabbed, no raising, minimal peeling and the colors are still vibrant. Pricing is based on piece and time. Very reasonable pricing for amazing clean work. Deposits start at $50. The bf took 3 hours to get tattooed and mine took less than an hour. I hung out and chatted with some of the artists while the bf finished getting tattooed, everyone made you feel welcome like you were in their home. The biggest obstacle we had was finding the shop! The shop is an industrial area with garage bays. The tattoo shop is right next door to a car audio place. There aren't any signs really indicating where the shop is. We thought we had gotten lost because Google maps suggested two locations. The Koloa location is their old address! They are in Lihue One of our favorite experiences while in Kaua'i. read more

This place is off the beaten path near the airport in Lihue. It's clean, has a great vibe. Rob Brasfield was our tattoo guy and he was really great to work with, allowing us to send samples ahead of the appointment and being ready to go when we got there. We were impressed with his easy-going manner, sense of humor, his attention to making sure everything was clean and hygienic, and the fact that the tattoos looked exactly like what we had given him.
