I just moved into a new house. It has lovely drapes, which my cat got really excited about and jumped up on... clawing a big tear. I took pics to Efrat, and she said "no problem!" Skilled seamstress. I have been trying out different tailors to find one that is my match. Kind of like when you try to find a hairstylist. Efrat is extremely talented, I just think a tad bit in demand for me. You should try and call before going in, she usually has someone there. For payment, you have to pay upfront, bring cash, check, venmo, or PayPal. No credit! I was charged $138 for 2 items: 1 dress and 1 jacket. That was a tad bit high for me, but I wanted to support a local business, so I ponied up. She is wonderful with texting you the status of your alterations. That I did like. Efrat knows what she is doing and does a great job at it! I had her tailor a dress of mine and she was able to do it flawlessly and in a timely fashion. I paid about ~$90 for her to make adjustments to my dress, which I would say is reasonable -- the alteration always costs about the same or more than the dress but that's just how it works :/ I was happy with the results though! Pro tip: Say your event is a week earlier than it is bc individual tailors tend to need extensions past their initial time they say (ofc bring your clothing article in a few-several weeks ahead of time though!). Only negative thing I have to say is it smelled like dog in there (bc she has a dog in there), but other than that, I highly recommend her services! read more

The $350 prom dress I bought my granddaughter was ruined because Efrat, in her own words, "was too busy and had the alterations done by someone else." The dress only needed to be hemmed and Efrat did the measurements. My granddaughter didn't try on the dress until last night, even though the dress was picked up last week without trying it on. Whether she tried it on last Wednesday or not, the problems with the dress were still the same. There were plastic tabs placed on the sides of the dress where the mesh was wrapped around numerous times. In order to zip it up you have to pull on the dress to straighten it, hold the zipper together and then it goes up. The plastic tabs sit crooked once it is tried on. We left the dress at. 9:15 am this morning. Three hours later the dress still didn't fit. She asked that the dress be left overnight and picked up tomorrow - prom day. After waiting instead of leaving th5:30 pm, the dress Efrat figured out the problems the "sub-contractor " created. She did not offer an apology or even a discount. Great job on vintage suit! Efrat is great to work with: skilled, friendly, responsive and cares about doing a great job. I brought in a vintage linen suit that needed extensive tailoring. She listened carefully to what I wanted and was patient while I checked out options (like cuffs or not). Measured very carefully, showed me once she pinned it, then adjusted the measurements to what I wanted. Then spent hours working on the suit. I came back in to try it on, and it was mostly right but I wanted the coat tapered a bit more. She was willing and did it overnight since I was traveling with the suit the next day. End of the story: It came out great, not exactly what I wanted but as much as she could do given the suit's design. A bit expensive but not sure it's out of line with other high end tailoring. OK, I have gone here a number of times. Why did I keep going back? Most the other yelpers seem to like the quality of the alterations done here. What can I say... I don't get it. The first time I went, it was OK. Nothing horrible, but nothing spectacular. Had some trousers let out, some new trousers altered, and a jacket altered. The second time I went, things seemed off. A couple items came back too tight, one of the alterations had sloppy stitching. I figured I must have caught them on an off day, as I went back and read most of the rave reviews posted here. The third time, I got the stuff back, the stuff wasn't pressed, and pretty much looked like it had been stored in a wrinkling position (crumpled up). Several pieces of thread were exposed and not trimmed, and some of the alterations were not precise. Chalk was still plainly visible on some of the garments. I was disappointment enough I decided I wasn't trying this again. Don't get me wrong, they seem like very nice and sweet people, but when i have to take my alterations to my mother in law to clean up a work that a "pro" did, something is wrong with this picture. read more

I took in some linen & cotton curtains to be hemmed. A straight cut & a straight seam, should have been easy. Instead, the cut was made uneven & crooked, the seams were bunched. When I complained, they were very nice & said they would try to fix it, but made the comment that the fabric was difficult to work with, and that they are not "a professional shop". I have since asked friends with some knowledge of sewing if these are difficult fabrics, and they've assured me they are not. Since the shop didn't seem confident that they could fix the curtains, I didn't return with the curtains & will have to just try to fix them myself. read more

The guy there (assuming it's Piero) is always super nice and does fine work for reasonable prices. Supposedly they have been doing alterations in San Carlos for 24 years. They just moved down the street a bunch of blocks four months ago so they didn't close down as I originally thought they did (and mourned).
