They simply took the one my shoes originally came with and moved it further up leaving the original stitching completely visible. Work was not well done at all. I am not from the area and, while visiting, my son and daughter-in- law's dog chewed the back of one of my favorite shoes. Help! the reviews for A and B repair were wonderful; so I decided to try it. they started by saying it would be two weeks. we live in Idaho and we're leaving in 5 days. They then said ,"OK we will have them in 3 days to accommodate our travel plans. I also left the non-damaged one as a sample. this afternoon I got a call that my shoe is ready. I returned to find that not only did they fix the damaged one, but they put a matching patch on the non-damaged one to make them match.... Service above and beyond! I highly recommend. read more

Very strange place! As someone who is scrupulous about paying taxes, I'm wary of supporting any business that is cash only, but there are few shoe repair businesses to choose from locally. I've used this business twice. The first time was a simple clean-up of badly scuffed loafers. That job was fine, albeit ridiculously overpriced for what they did. The second time, they lost my $250 shoes. Just gone! No apologies, no reimbursement. The A&B "shop" (there is never anyone actually working on shoes there, so it seems to be more of a front) is an absolute mess. Go elsewhere! read more

I brought in two pair of Merrell shoes in hopes of getting re-soled. One pair was straight forward, the other they were not sure. One estimate was mentioned the other required a call back. They did call when the shoes were ready for pickup. Come to find out, both pairs. It's good to have a local resource, and the price seemed "high". I also choose not to toss shoes that are still wearable. I hope the soles last for at least a year! My feedback would be for them to write the estimate on the tag they give you. I'm giving an extra star because they were the only ones out of 5other places that worked on my belt, although the job itself sucked. I want to frame this review as honest in nature and I don't want to negatively impact on this small business's ability to have patrons. That being said -- here we go: I found this shop online and was exited to have a local resource. I took in one of my designer bags to have straps removed and a pair of boots to have the tops shortened. The wonderful person at the counter quoted me very fairly and let me know it'd be ready in a week -- lovely. I came back a week later to the straps cut off from the top of the bag. I had asked for the lining to be removed, and the adhesive to be removed, then the lining be replaced and stitched so the bag would appear it never had straps. The bag retails for around $200 so I was disappointed to see the straps were cut and I was not consulted on the decision. To the point that the cashier person discounted my overall purchase -- even she was like "that's wild, I'm sorry." The boots don't require much more than the photo -- I needed them shortened because they were a bit too high. I asked for them to shorten and seal the tops of the boots so it appears they weren't tailored. I got something that very clearly appears to be cut to be shorter and the tops weren't sealed outside of a not-so-delicate stitch job. Overall, I would not recommend this spot to anyone and like I said I don't want to impact their opportunity for business -- it's rough out there. read more

I dropped off my wife's shoes 8 days ago. When I arrived 17 minutes after their opening (11:00 a.m.), the place was locked up tight. I called, but no answer Two other customers were waiting for the place to open with me. Then the owner showed up, walking her dog, without an apology. I gave her my paid receipt and after a few minutes of looking through recors, she said, "Your order isn't ready. It will be done tomorrow." I am so angry I can't even see straight. All I wanted them to do was to shine and buff my black coach purse. It wasn't a Repair it wasn't anything that hard. I had to leave town on a family emergency for multiple months so it's not like they didn't have time. I came back and at first they couldn't find my purse. Then miraculously when I started to go behind the counter to look for myself they found my purse right near the gal in the back!! In over 8 weeks it has not even been touched. The inside was filthy and had not been cleaned out. Then I saw the back which has now three permanent dings spots in it. They wanted $45 to just clean my purse which if they were going to do a good job would be OK but they did nothing absolutely nothing. It looks exactly like a dead when I brought it in there EXCEPT it now has the dings on the back. I'm seriously considering small claims court! Just look at the photos. read more

Sadly this used to be a real shoe repair shop. With the tools of trade and the smell of countless years of service. Now your shoes are sent out to ? Carmel? I don't know but I gave them a nice pair of Uggs with just worn soles and after 3 months of trying to get back a useable pair of boots I got one shoe size maybe 5 and the other size 9 and they refused to return my money and told me they couldn't make a mistake. Two of three pairs of shoes were nicely repaired and two with leather holes on moccasins were roughly patched. The dog leash repair was flimsy. For $10 it had only a single square stitching bringing the two pieces together. I asked to have it improved snd they said it would cost me another $10 just to take it to Monterey where the repairs are completed. I came to pick everything up on the designated day about 5 items, but only two were ready. The girl said that the other items weren't ready. I was really unhappy because that was the day of gridlock in the Rancho area due to an emergency and I had walked to A & B. I asked her to call me when the other shoes were ready. No call. I called about a week to 10 days later and the shoes were ready. And its cash only for payment so there's limitations all around. Will I go there again, only if I have heels or distinct easy repairs, but no, I'd rather go where the owners care about their clients' needs more respectfully. read more

New owners since March 2020 and they had some big shoes to fill (pardon the pun). Sadly, they just don't cut it. They come from Castroville and take your shoes to Carmel to be repaired. My shoes came back with dark glue on the vamp. The workmanship on simple things, like a heel guard, is not up to par. They charge $10 higher than the previous (and fabulous) owners and are now requesting cash up front. So disappointed. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! I'm new in town and I brought my shoes to this place to put rubber soles on them. Simple job, right? For most places it is. Somehow, A & B managed to ruin my $800 shoes. (Don't judge me) The owner should NOT be in this business if he can't hold his hand still enough to do a simple job...he got some black substance on my shoe trying to trace the sole and I guess tried to "erase" it. My shoes are cream colored and he used a white polish to try and get rid of the black marker/polish he got on it. ARGGGHHHHH. I'm so upset. So if you love your shoes, I would not bring them here. I used this guy several times years ago....he did o.k. work...and his prices were a bit high...but he was local so I bit my lip and paid his charges. Not sure what had happened with this guy. I love this place. I bought a pair of old ridding boots that are sweet Italian goodness and the sole started to pull away from the heel. I was so bummed so I tried to find a place that would repair shoes. A cobbler is hard to find these days since shoes now-a-days are made to wear out and throw out. But like a beacon of beauty there is A & B Shoes in Aptos. It is a tiny store in a tucked away spot but "the owner" (I am not sure what his name is) fixed up my boots awesome in two days and for only $20. I have since then taken these same boots back again for some more mending since I wear them almost everyday and that too was only $20 and ready in two days. I also took my friends boots here that needed a heel pad replaced and he did them in two days for . . . you guessed it . . . $20. I couldn't recommend this place more for those awesome shoes that just aren't ready to let go of life. I am just so glad to see people still do this. You gotta support this type of work. A dying trade for sure but we can save it! I hope that the days of a cobbler in a tiny shop full of shoes will live forever. read more

Nothing to complain about here. I was recommended to A&B by my dry cleaner/tailor (Kings Cleaners on Capitola Rd.) after searching for months for a good cobbler. I took a pair of ankle cowboy boots in for a new sole after one fell off and had started to make the wooden heal bow outwards at the bottom. They look great - the sole is fixed and they polished them a bit for $20. Mr. A&B also put a couple extra holes in a leather belt I had right on the spot, free of charge. About 5 years ago I took a pair of Danskos here and inner soles. They installed them and charged me $10 for the privilege. A couple months ago I took in two more pair and 2 more pairs of inner soles. This time I was charged $15 per pair and they did a lousy job. The liner wasn't glued down properly and he didn't cut it to fit for both pairs. I brought them both back had to wait another week and only one pair was usable. He completely wrecked the other pair. Keep in mind that I brought him the materials and it looks like he didn't even take 10 minutes for each repair. I've since found an online Dansko repair place since Santa Cruz is short on shoe repair shops. Might be OK for heel repair but don't take your Danskos here! read more
