Coffee - Advertising on the cup
    Steven B.

The Telegraph, a local newspaper did an article on the 10 best places to have breakfast in the River Bend area and Eagles Nest made the list. It's one of those mom and pop diner restaurants that serves comfort food and is only open for breakfast and lunch. They focus on what they do best. I arrived about an hour and half after they opened on a Saturday. I was immediately concerned that there were not that many other diners eating. However, while I was eating the place quickly filled up and what surprised me the most, is as diners entered, the waitresses were greeting them by name. Wow, that is just like Norm being greeted when he entered, Cheers. Since it was my first visit, I went with a basic breakfast. I enjoyed two eggs over medium, bacon, American Fries, a side of Pancakes and of course a cup of black coffee. The reason I'm giving a 3 Star rating is, my eggs were not over medium, my bacon was on the cold side and the potatoes could have been crisper. However, the side of pancakes were a 5. They were fluffy and a light golden color on both sides. Best of all the coffee was strong, hot and my cup was never empty. Every time a waitress passed my table they offered to top my cup. The service was extremely attentive and as I mentioned earlier, all the waitresses knew their regulars by name. Speaking of names, I thought it was so Mel's Diner from Alice, all the waitress wore aprons with their names embroidered on them. That is so old school and cool. I'm not sure the Eagles Nest will be in my breakfast rotation, but if someone is in the area and wanting a good diner breakfast - I'd recommend it. When: August 28, 2021 Why: Breakfast

My girlfriend and I LOVE looking for great diners. Eagles Nest by a long shot has the BEST FOOD!!! OMG the best diner food in the Metro East! So so good. Great service and so affordable. This is the place! I particularly loved the chicken fried steak and my girlfriend went old school with the chop steak.

Eagle Nest is a classic diner in Bethalto, home of the Eagles. Great place for breakfast and lunch. The waffles were delicious! Try it!

We stopped into this little gem for breakfast and it was delicious! Very clean, friendly staff, A+ service, and the food was yummy!

Or eggs over easy, sausage, patties, and fried potatoes like home! Delicious!

I also loved the atmosphere, upscale food without feeling stuffy or pretentious. It felt like the kind of place you could walk into dressed casually and still enjoy an amazing dining experience. From the moment we sat down, our waitress was fantastic. Since it was our first time visiting, we were welcomed with complimentary deviled eggs, which were absolutely delicious. And the cocktails? Perfectly crafted and easily some of the best we've had in a while. We're already looking forward to coming back. Thank you for helping make our anniversary feel so special!

It's one of a very few places in the area that isn't a chain, isn't just burgers and pizza, and also isn't pretentious or overpriced. The service is always friendly and knowledgeable. We've been there at least ten times and only once was the service slow. It was an anomaly because they're usually really on top of things. Ambiance is a friendly, but upscaled downtown cafe/bar place that is perfect for taking out-of-towners or a fun brunch with the ladies. (They have a separate brunch menu on Saturdays!) I don't drink, so I can't comment on their drink selections. I'm taking away a star because the parking situation is annoying, especially during construction. There is street parking or a huge parking lot in the back. However, the back parking lot is a terrible hodgepodge of concrete and asphalt and a gazillion potholes and no super clear direction on how to get to the restaurant. Some signage would go a long way in helping customers to not only find parking, but once parked, to them navigate back to the little crevice where the back door is located. The back porch is located behind a larger portion of the structure and you can't see it from the parking lot. Additionally, if you have anyone in your party with mobility issues, it's next-to-impossible to park near enough to the door to make a difference. The handicapped parking spots are 40 yards away from the back door. All that said, we will def go back because there's nothing else like it in the area.

I didn't end them, but I bonus was, a hook and outlet was under the bar right in front of my stool. I didn't want the Friday special, even though some Fried Fish was tempting. All I wanted was some of their incredible hand cut and breaded onion rings. I paired them with a 6 piece bone in chicken wings in mild sauce. When served, I was pleased to see my order had equal flats and drums. The wings and rings were very filling. I ended up taking two rings and one flat and one drum home. They re-heated very well for the next days lunch. The service was a little off, but I will admit they were slammed. The bartender was slow on greeting and doing follow-up. It may have helped if they had an extra person behind the bar. Even a bar-back would have helped. They may have lost a star this visit, but I am sure they'll get it back soon.

The food menu has a lot of solid options, but the wings are easily the best in the area, huge, meaty, and packed with flavor. Great variety of beers on tap too. Definitely a spot worth checking out if you want good food, cold beer, and a relaxed atmosphere.

My cousins Aunt (from her other side of the family) turned me on to Geno's. She is older then Geno's and sings the praises of the Wednesday special. On Wednesday, they offer what I'd call a, Blue Plate Special. It's a healthy sized serving of Meatloaf, a side of Mashed Potatoes with Brown Gravy and daily vegetable. The day I went, I enjoyed Green Beans. It was comfort food at its best. True down-home cooking. I had also heard from other Onion Ring addicts, that the ones at Geno's were pretty impressive. When dining alone, an order of Rings and an entree can be too much food. However, to my surprise Geno's allows you to pay a minimal up-charge for a side of Onion Rings. In my opinion that is genius. I was able to enjoy my juicy cheeseburger and instead of a side of fries, I got to experience their famous house made onion rings. They were large rings, well breaded and crispy. They also paired perfectly with the burger. My next visit will be to try their chicken wings. I've heard they are the best in Madison County. Service has been nice and friendly. The type of service you'd expect at an old school family ran restaurant. Very comforting and welcoming.
