We'd been wanting to try Kamal Palace for a while since it had been on our radar, and of course we decided to go on Mother's Day for lunch -- fully expecting a long wait. Kamal Palace is tucked away in the Marina Pacifica shopping center in Long Beach, right along the Los Cerritos Channel. Even though it was pretty crowded when we arrived, there were still plenty of tables available, and we were seated within about three minutes. We specifically came for lunch because they offer a lunch buffet seven days a week. When it comes to Indian food, I always want to try a little bit of everything, and when we order à la carte, we usually end up with way too much food. The buffet was perfect because we got to sample a variety of curries and different dishes without overordering. I can't even remember all the names of the curries they had, but every single one we tried was flavorful and delicious. My favorites were definitely the shrimp curry and the mushroom curry. Of course, we both ordered mango lassis, and they paired perfectly with the meal. The ambiance was lovely, and the customer service was incredibly warm and welcoming. We're definitely adding Kamal Palace into our regular lunch date rotation.

There were plenty of options, and it's the kind of place where you want to keep going back up to try a little bit of everything. Unfortunately, the service completely took away from the experience. Our waiter brought the bill while we were still eating and in the middle of a conversation, and then kept coming back to rush us to pay. It felt really uncomfortable and unnecessary at the time--especially since no one had mentioned that they were closing. If we had known, we would have been more mindful and wrapped things up sooner. Great food, but the lack of communication and rushed service made it hard to fully enjoy the experience. I'd consider coming back for the food, but I really hope the service and communication improve.

Little India is usually closed on Mondays so I looked on Yelp, and this was the closest place suggested to the pad. I wasn't disappointed at all. The masala dosa was crispy, the chutneys were fire, and the sambar was hearty. (Today I only came for those, but I'll come another day to try their North Indian food.) Between the great food, the marigold garlands, beautiful mural wallpaper, and the absolutely unreasonable amount of south Asian eye candy --including the handsome bespectacled waiter who looked a little bit like Ranbir IYKYK (I was having trouble ordering, he was so cute,) the cricket hotties in sunglasses on the cricket broadcast, and the absolute smokeshow picking up his order at the counter, I will definitely be back. I felt like at this point in time the restaurant was basically flirting with me. I also wish I had taken more pictures of this cute restaurant, but I was too busy being a creeper. I ended my delicious meal with piping hot chai and also equally warm, fresh gulab jamun and accidentally created a dessert science experiment by pouring warm gulab jamun syrup into the chai to sweeten it, and it was the best decision ever. Good restaurant for everyone, but for South Asians, it's a comforting diaspora space where you actually want to linger for a while instead of just eating and rushing out.

Savory and spicy with surprising bits of pepper, this dish was a very welcomed contrast to the version from India House in Buena Park that I found sweet for some reason. - Garlic Naan: Light, airy, and a nice complement to the curry. - Samosas: Probably the best item I ordered. Aromatic, crispy exterior with delicious potatoes and vegetables inside. I'm sad I requested only 1 order of it. Though 1 order comes with 2 pieces, it was so delicious that I was craving more after it was eaten. I definitely see myself ordering from here again.

We ordered mango margaritas and the Mango Passion Fruit Lassi. Both were phenomenally crafted. To eat, we ordered the cheese & jalapeño kulcha, saffron rice (side), Cali Chilli Pot Pie, and the Tandoori Sea Bass. My soul left my body as soon as I bit into the sea bass. I'm someone who rarely savors my food, but I genuinely felt sad that I was on my last bite. All other dishes we ordered were perfect. The sea bass; however, stole the show. Shout out to the chef Mandrpal! We were recommended the lobster and short ribs for our next visit.

I've tried almost everything on the menu over the years, from orange chicken to the short ribs, and most dishes are delicious. The portions are huge and perfect for sharing family-style, especially with larger groups. They've always handled big parties well, though I'd definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time since they can get busy. The ambiance is probably the one area that could use some improvement, but the food and portions more than make up for it. If it's your first time, I'd recommend the chicken corn soup, sweet and sour chicken, green onion paratha, and Mongolian beef.
