Staying in the area and came across Amaravati while browsing Google Maps (because I didn't want to move my car and lose a perfectly good parking spot). This was walking distance from the hotel. I stopped by Wednesday evening after the dinner rush. Was pleasantly greeted by a friendly gal. I mentioned I wanted to order takeout. They do have a very spacious dining room, but I wanted to get back to my hotel room before dark since I was walking. I had already pre-browsed their Yelp page for dinner ideas - so opted for an order of Butter Chicken (which comes with a side of rice), and an order of Garlic Naan. Requested the butter chicken to be mild (or "as mild as possible"). Wait wasn't too long, there was another order ahead of me. My takeout order was well packaged - everything in its own container/wrapper to ensure they stayed hot and fresh. The delicious aroma was tantalizing on my brief walk back to the hotel. Holy moly. I'm no expert on Indian food - but everything tasted amazing! The garlic naan was hands down the best garlic naan I've ever had. It was warm, fresh, crispy in all the right places, and tasted equally great on its own - as well as dipped into the rich and creamy butter chicken sauce. The side of rice is perfect for one person - and the butter chicken had generous cuts of tender, delicious chicken. Spice level still had a kick to it - but it was manageable. Prices are fair considering the area, and quality of the dishes. Friendly and attentive service! I'm honestly contemplating coming back on my last day in the area for another round of dinner - I'll probably opt for a mango lassi next time to help balance out the spice. Like seriously considering going back here tomorrow night. All the portions were perfect - not too overwhelming, and I finished every last drop - saved some sauce to enjoy my last layer of garlic naan. Honestly, if it wasn't so far away from "home" - Amaravati would be my favorite / go-to Indian food restaurant from here on out. Yum! What a great find in this area! All the items we ordered were delicious. The paneer tikka masala was flavorful and creamy, the chili chicken was spicy, perfectly seasoned, and the chicken wasn't tough or rubbery. The samosas were excellent and came with both styles of chutney. Our order also came with a small side of rice which we appreciated. My only critique would be that the garlic naan was a bit flat and bland, but the former could be because it just didn't transport well since we ordered takeout. I was looking for a local Indian restaurant and came across Amaravati. When I saw that dosa is on the menu, I was even more excited! Amaravati is located in a small strip mall. There are usually some parking spots available, however, the spots are VERY narrow. They serve authentic North and South Indian cuisine and are known for their lunch buffet, but I came for dinner where they serve their a la carte menu. For appetizers, we got the Vegetable Pakoda made with gram flour, vegetables, spinach with Indian spices, It comes with two sauces for dipping. For the main dishes, we got the Butter Chicken which was so good! The chicken thigh was tender, and the cashew and tomato sauce was so savory and flavorful. It's served with a small portion or basmati rice. We also got the Palak Paneer which has spinach, Indian cheese seasoned with jeera, garlic, and Indian spices. It's also served with a small portion of basmati rice. Of course we needed some Garlic Naan for dipping into both! I also wanted to try the Aloo Paratha since I've never had mashed potatoes in paratha before! It comes with a white sauce for dipping. They have a variety of dosas, including their Paper Dosa. It was a massive 3 feet long! It's very thin, so it ends up being quite crispy. It's served with sambar and some different chutneys, including coconut, peanut, and tomato. The peanut was my favorite, and the tomato was good as well, however, it was a bit spicy. We also got a Paneer Bhurji Dosa. This dosa was unique in that it's filled with scrambled paneer, onions, tomatoes, and Indian spices. It reminded me a bit of a breakfast wrap. Not bad, but it does gets a bit soggy over time. Amaravati is a cozy little spot a strip mall in Los Alamitos. I woke up on Memorial Day craving a dosa. Little India is usually closed on Mondays so I looked on Yelp, and this was the closest place suggested to the pad. I wasn't disappointed at all. The masala dosa was crispy, the chutneys were fire, and the sambar was hearty. (Today I only came for those, but I'll come another day to try their North Indian food.) Between the great food, the marigold garlands, beautiful mural wallpaper, and the absolutely unreasonable amount of south Asian eye candy --including the handsome bespectacled waiter who looked a little bit like Ranbir IYKYK (I was having trouble ordering, he was so cute,) the cricket hotties in sunglasses on the cricket broadcast, and the absolute smokeshow picking up his order at the counter, I will definitely be back. I felt like at this point in time the restaurant was basically flirting with me. I also wish I had taken more pictures of this cute restaurant, but I was too busy being a creeper. I ended my delicious meal with piping hot chai and also equally warm, fresh gulab jamun and accidentally created a dessert science experiment by pouring warm gulab jamun syrup into the chai to sweeten it, and it was the best decision ever. I don't really eat spicy food and she showed genuine care. The samoas were a little spicy for me with the tamarind sauce on them but the flavor was wonderful. The palak paneer was fantastic and zero heat spice. The chicken tikka masala was a little too spicy for me at the mildest level but I understood that would be possible because of the everyday spices in the dish. The garlic naan was also delish! Though I was told it would take about 15 minutes, I waited a bit longer for my items: - Chicken Tikka Masala (spicy): Though the chicken was a tad bit dry, this curry was exactly what I was craving. Savory and spicy with surprising bits of pepper, this dish was a very welcomed contrast to the version from India House in Buena Park that I found sweet for some reason. - Garlic Naan: Light, airy, and a nice complement to the curry. - Samosas: Probably the best item I ordered. Aromatic, crispy exterior with delicious potatoes and vegetables inside. I'm sad I requested only 1 order of it. I was craving for some dosas and idlis so thought of checking this place out, because an Indian had highly recommended it. This place is nice and spacious, staff are polite and courteous but the food was quite disappointing. We ordered a few South Indian items - Plain Vada, Masala Dosa, Paper Dosa and Plain Idli. The vada and dosas were very greasy. The idlis were not really soft (although I am not much experienced, I still make better idlis and dosas at home!). Only the chutneys and sambar were tasty and good. I can't speak for the North Indian food, because we didn't try them. Definitely not going back for a South Indian food experience for sure. This restaurant is brand new! This location has had some trouble filling some decent restaurants so I hope this one sticks. Upon walking in the decor is very simple nothing fancy. Portions are incredibly generous, which I love. We had an only ordered three things and had more than enough for an extra meal for the next day. Prices are reasonable, and the flavor profile was nice. I really enjoyed the meal. Service was excellent. We walked in on a 9 PM and they are one of the few to be open past nine in Los Alamitos so I appreciate that. Would definitely come back and try other things ! read more

Well, I was excited when this place first opened as I love Indian food and I couldn't wait to try this new spot. I went to the restaurant to order for takeout so that way I could check out the menu in person and see what they recommended. I came in on Friday night and it was not too busy inside. I was told it to be a 45 minute wait and I was fine with that but let me tell you that all changed. I ended up waiting 1 1/2 hours for my to go order . That's not an exaggeration that's not a made up number that's the truth. The food itself was not bad at all but it's hard to really enjoy food when you set out at 5:45 and by the time you get home with the food it's 745. I don't care how good it is. It's just not worth the wait . The person in charge I'm assuming it's the owner was all over the place, taking orders, being a waiter, answering phones, and checking on stuff also. Now I know some people are gonna say it's new and it takes time to get used to some stuff, but they really need more staff because they're falling far behind. Like I said, the food was pretty good, I got multiple dishes and I will post pics and it was all decent, but there was a lack of chicken in mostly all the dishes, some stuff was cooked faster than others so by the time it was all done somewhere hot and somewhere cold and that's a no go. I came with my BFF to celebrate her upcoming birthday. I was pleasantly surprised with the variety of dosas they had and we both liked the vegetable spring dosa. It was giant! We also got the chicken tikka masala, palak paneer and garden naan. There was enough for our lunch and enough to take home for two more lunches. They server will offer you different spice levels for certain dishes. They also have a lunch buffet, but we were being calorie conscious. Went here for the lunch buffet for the first time. A few selection of entree and a small dessert station. A unique experience since we get to try different Indian dishes. But I wish they have more selections. When we were there, a few of there trays were empty and just have boiling water. We'll probably be back though. We tried this place from a recommendation from my daughter in law who had ordered a to go order. They have a buffet menu had a good amount of choices but the bad thing was that it was not filled right away. They hardly had rice and the tandoori chicken was never placed until we had asked towards the end of our meal. The food was tasty but one big flaw was that they had big chicken bone fragments from one of their dishes. They still had their Christmas decorations up and we went on Valentine's Day for lunch.
